Jason laid on his back, propped up against the wall, clouds covering a shimmering silver moon. He let out a sigh. Stars glistened above him, light from thousands of years ago reaching him now, like a Fed-Ex package a few days too late. Jason smiled, a mirthless smile if there ever was one. It's funny, in a dark, dark way, when you realize that most of these stars are already dead, their light more of a dying distress call than a beacon of hope.

And looking out there, into the coldness of space, lit by the light of the dead and dying, Jason could relate. "Never thought that the first day of school could be so rough." He murmured, reaching into his pocket for a cigarette that wasn't there.

Figures, he thought.

He got up and stood on the edge of the roof. He'd always loved that feeling, being right on the edge of death. It's where he felt at home. It's why he fought demons and devils and vampires and all of that. Because for a few brief seconds when their claws were reaching towards him, or their guns were pointing at him, he could feel it. Oh god how he could feel it. This same feeling, standing here on the edge of the roof, drawing a line between salvation and damnation, it was exhilirating!

But as he stood on the edge, he noticed something different in the midnight sky -- A red streak glowing in the air as it crashed through the sky, barreling towards the Forest where it landed, loud like a gunshot. Jason got down from the edge, ran down the stairs, and off to the Forest to investigate.

(( To join this, head to The Forest. ))
