Faria stepped out of the taxi behind Winger and Niko. She'd never been to this part of Tokyo before.
Looking around there were lots of shops, arcades, something that looked like a movie theater, small food stations. Somewhere a bit farther down she spotted a small store, much darker than the bright colours of the rest: her favorite clothing store. This place didn't seem so bad, if she had had the money for it. She'd have to look for a job sometime soon.
She looked up at Winger and then Niko.

"So now what?"

OOC: That will be fine. Truth is, I had asked Abadon to move your topic to the Downtown area some time ago, but he must have forgotten.

IC>>>

Niko: Eight...nine...ten. There you go!

Cab Driver: No problem, pal.

(After paying their cab fare, Niko looks around at their surroundings. Winger also had a look around...displaying a half-smile. He remembered this place. It wasn't too far from the back-alley that led to Dr. Jack Styles' hidey-hole. He could only guess where Niko went with Aeria the day he was out cold in the lab. Apparently, an arcade was involved, which reminded him...)

Winger: Hey, Niko. How do you get all the cash like that, huh?

Niko: Let's just say the high cost of living isn't a problem I have to deal with.

"So now what?"

Winger: Good question. Where's this arcade you and Aeria went to?

Niko: It's...ummm...

(For a moment, he seemed lost, as if unable to figure it all out. He stepped one way, then another, then walked down the sidewalk and came back before deciding that the place they were right in front of was the right one. He'd go on like that on purpose, sometimes. Winger chucked him in the back of his head.)

Winger: Goodfing around like that...

Niko: Yeah? What about it?

Winger: Funny as hell, but clue me in next time.

Niko: So...go in?

Winger: To the arcade!

Faria blinked, not exactly following with Winger and Niko. She thought they knew where they were going... but maybe not.

To the arcade!

She smiled. An arcade! She loved arcades. When she was younger she used to go to them all the time to get away from her house. DDR was her favorite game, but she played around with other ones as well, though she was best with DDR. She liked a few Capcom fighting games, but she wasn't too great at those.
They went inside and she immediately started scanning for a DDR machine. Not like she had any money to play, but somehow it just made her feel better if there was a machine around.

"So what games do you guys like to play?"

"So what games do you guys like to play?"

Niko & Winger: Games with guns.

(They spoke in unison and at the exact same moment, which was funny because neither of them was expecting to that to happen. Immediately after saying their peace, the two brothers look at each other in confusion. They both knew that the other had similar tastes, but how'd they both spout that off at once without synchronizing?)

Winger: Niko and I use to be snipers, see. We still are, in a way, but I guess we're out of a job.

Niko: More like out of circulation. In any case, we're really good at some games. Especially first-person shooters.

(Just then, Niko spies something that he deems as "cool".)

Niko: Hey, Winger! They've got a kind of VR setup back there. It looks like some kind of multi-player game based on Zone of the Enders.

Winger: Zone of the what now?

Niko: It's a mecha-sim developed from some of the greatest game-writers in Japan. It's really awesome stuff.

"Games with guns."

Faria smiled, seeing that they hadn't done that on purpose. She laughed a little.

"First person shooters are fun, I'm not the best at them though."

She liked just about any shooter game as long as it didn't have to do with the military or anything. For some reason she thought anything military or government based was boring. Now if it was some futuristic space theme, THAT was her idea of a fun shooter game.
She listened to them talk about the Virtual Reality game in the back. "Zone of Enders"? She had no clue what it was, but the title sounded cool so it probably wasn't that bad.
She then remembered that she hadn't any money. She wrinkled her nose to herself. Oh well, she could watch this time and then when she had the money, and, if the game was really as good as it sounded, then they could come back and play it again. Er, if the other two didn't mind, of course.

"Are you guys gonna play it?"

OOC: For full information, just look it up. It's out there and it's really good. (Osiris is my design, though.)

IC>>>

"Are you guys gonna play it?"

Niko: You bet we are!

Winger: What's this thing about, anyway?

Niko: Oh, you'll like it. Lemme explain for both of you.

(While he led them on towards the area, Niko explained the concept of Zone of the Enders. It's a futuristic mecha-based game that has had the orginal ZOE, as well as a sequel, a prequel, and several anime show releases. The game features two kinds of mechs-weapons. There are LEVs - which Niko forgot the long-name for - that serve as your usual kind of mecha like any anime show. They are like big soldiers or custom-types that designed with different battle features. But LEVs, unfortunately, don't compare to the Orbital Frames, special space-age mechas powerful enough to leave the atmosphere under their own power, best operating in the air or outer space.)

Niko: There are many kinds of OFs, but the toughest of the tough are either the giant-sized city-smashers...or the Jehuty types.

Winger: Jehuty?

Niko: Main character's mech in the games. Jehuty a design that somewhat mirrors both Anubis and Isis, not to mention Idolo.

Winger: You...know alot about this stuff.

Niko: I'm a fan.

(The thing with Anubis, and the other Jethuty types, is that they bare a face like the jackal-god of death from Egyptian myths. Many of the OFs had a name-basis in something mythological. They were now waiting in line, these two, while others were deathmatching. Niko saw something on the screen that made his jaw drop.)

Niko: What...is...that?

(He was pointing at the display of a mech he'd never seen before, but was clearly in resemblance to Jehuty. It was a black mech with violet highlights where the energy in its body flowed. The OF had extending claws instead of energy blades and a pair of black angel wings instead of either Jehuty energy wing-drives or the multiple engines of Anubis. What was this thing? The employee running the VR area seemed to know.)

"That's the new design that won the ZOE contest. Lots of people sent in their ideas and designs, but this one was the one that won. It's called Osiris."

Niko: That thing is cool.

Faria looked to where they were pointing and she stared as well.

"That thing is cool."

"Yeah it is..."

She looked at all the different mechs curiously. She found the one that muct be the Anubis that Niko must have been talking about. Out of all of them she liked the Osiris best. Though, she was a visual person. She had no clue what it's stats were, so maybe it wasn't as good as it looked...? She didn't care though. It could be the worst mech and she'd still have it labeled as the best, in her mind anyway.
She gave a small half smile, eager to watch Winger and Niko fight.

"So what robots--I mean mechs--do you guys usually play as?"

"So what robots--I mean mechs--do you guys usually play as?"

Winger: Well...

Niko: Ummm....

Winger: I never played the game before in my life, or any mecha-game, really.

Niko: And I've just played through the game itself as Jehuty, since that's the one available in one-player mode.

Winger: This is gonna be...interesting.

(The line quickly shortened and the brothers Renzo realized that the right to play as Osiris is a privilege that must be won, not chosen. That being said, it would not be easy to gain it since the player currently holding onto Osiris was really damn good. Two guys were fighting him as the giant Orbital Frames called Tempest and Tyrant. Both were from the first game, very big and bad. And while the Tyrant had some speed and the Tempest had some power, Osiris was able to fly rings around them and catch their weaknesses off guard. Niko finds out that there is a port in the machine where he's standing, so...he reaches over to his wrist and opens up a part of it, revealing the access cord there. He connects himself to the machine and looks over the game data.)

Niko: Aha!

(He unplugs himself and into a station to begin playing.)

Niko: Let me go first. Trust me.

Winger: Okay.

(Niko and a couple other guys are now in the game with the boy in charge of Osiris. The other players make their selection, and then Niko selects a devilish-looking Orbital Frame called Iblis. He grins as the others get into a fight...shortly before he blasts a great deal of the arena with an unending light!)

Winger: What the hell?

Osiris Player: How the hell did he figure out the way to use the Marlblanke Effect?!

(The Marlblanke Effect was a type of ability made known in a third game, ZOE: The Fist of Mars. Basically, it channeled the living energy all OFs used - metatron - into an offensive blast capable of wrecking whole towns. It was something that only the Iblis, Testament, and maybe a couple others could perform.)

Niko: Hah-hah! Gotcha!

Faria watched, not entirely sure what was going on. By the looks of it Niko had used something that not many people knew how to use, and was apparently very difficult to use even if they could... or so she guessed.
The players moved too fast for her to follow too well, but she tried her best to pay attention. Often times though she would blank out and just study the graffics. Being an artist, she liked looking at these things.
She admired people who could create 3D models. She'd used a program like that before and had gotten so confused with all the things you had to do and control. She was supposed to make a manta ray swimming, but she ended up making a very interesting looking sheet that could have been blowing in some wind.
She turned to Winger.

"What exactly is that light-thing that Niko's doing? Is it good? heh, do you know?"

((ooc: sorry I took so long, I'm going to be slow in replying for a while...))

"What exactly is that light-thing that Niko's doing? Is it good? heh, do you know?"

Winger: Oh that? He's showing off. I don't know what it is, but I think he just used a secret move to blow away the competition.

Niko: I won!

Winger: See?

(This opened up the place to a bunch of new players and, god help us, they put Niko in charge of the Osiris Frame. If he was half the gaming-nut that Winger had described and he had fleshed out, then many players that were coming in today...were doomed. Winger personally chose Anubis, because it looked wicked and it was powerful. Meanwhile, an employee came up to Faria and asked if she was joining in.)

"The two other guys there said they'd pay your way if you liked."

Faria stared in amazement as Niko won... just like that!
When the employee came up to her and asked if she would join, she jumped out of her somewhat awed daze. She was about to back off and decline when they said that Winger/Niko would pay for her.

"What? No, I couldn't!"

She stared, unsure what to do. She blinked.

((ooc: I'm not sure how this is set up, but I'm guessing she can go up and talk to the players if she wanted? X_x))

ic: She went over to Winger.

"I couldn't let you guys pay a game for me! Gosh, I'm sure I'd really suck, it'd be a waste of your money."

She scratched the back of her head and laughed a bit. Of course she'd like to play, but she was sure that she'd die as soon as the game began, definately not worth it.

((ooc... again: sorry it took so long to reply, I've been so busy lately X_x))

OOC: No problem, on either count.

IC>>>

"I couldn't let you guys pay a game for me! Gosh, I'm sure I'd really suck, it'd be a waste of your money."

(The two brothers laughed all of a sudden. Not at her, just a friendly laid-back "No worries" kind of laugh. Money was not nearly the problem that Faria thought it might be and they had reasons why.)

Winger: Don't worry about that. We save up alot, plus we're thrifty.

Niko: Yeah, don't give it another thought. Besides, I'm thinking of taking a job as a Private Eye. It's something I've always wanted to do.

Winger: See? We've gotcha covered. Besides, virtual reality looks really cool.

Niko: Except when it's inside of his head.

Winger: Hey!

Faria blinked, missing what Niko probably meant. Whatever it was it had offended Winger, so she decided it probably wasn't her business to know.
Deciding that it was probably alright to play, she nodded to the employee.

"Yes, I'll be joining."

And then to Winger/Niko.

"Thank you so much!!!"

She smiled happily, excited. She'd never played a game anything like this before, and though she knew she'd be no good, it looked like a lot of fun.
She went over to the empty place where she would be playing and stared at it dumbly.

"So... um... Winger, how exactly does this work?"

"So... um... Winger, how exactly does this work?"

Winger: Well, I'm new to this game, but you're basically playing as whatever mecha-

Niko: Orbital Frame.

Winger: Whatever. Anyway, whatever character you play will be controlled at a first-person view, meaning that it'll be like seeing through its eyes. As for the controls...the guy here can explain much better.

"Muchos gracias."

(At this time, both Winger and Niko had their VR stuff on, and an employee was helping Faria with the VR gear. He explained that what Winger said was true, and that the controls were situated in a way that involved two special sticks. The left one was able to point the OF in different directions and fly it around, faster as more pressure is pushed or pulled in a given direction. The right stick was weapon's control. The main trigger was the melee-attack button, the thumb button was defense and shields. There was also a dial-selector for available sub-weapons and abilities, all dependant on the OF in question. As soon as this was explained, Winger also said that there was a wide selection, which there was. For now, Faria could see a character selector screen with a long list of Orbital Frames.)

PLAYER 3 - Please select your character.

Osiris - Player 1
Anubis - Player 2
Jehuty
Idolo
Isis
Hathor
Ardjet
Neith
Zombie Neith
Tempest
Tyrant
Inhert
Nephitis
Vic Viper
Raptor
Cyclops
Clod
Narita
Mummyhead
Iblis
Testament
Durandel II
Orcrist
Vjaya

(This list was followed by the option to chose whatever OF was selected by the player - Faria - and an option to view information about the OF in question before deciding to take it or not. It should be noted that even the selection screen, with a view of a nebula in space, was visually splendoring.)

OOC: Basically, if you don't know enough about the ZOE games or certain OFs in them, point out which ones you're searching information on and I'll explain it in IC.

((ooc-heh, I don't know much about ZOE, and Faria wouldn't know.... Do you think it would be safe to compare it to MechAssault and look at the game that way?))

ic--
Faria looked at a few descriptions of some of the robots, or "Orbital Frames" as Niko had corrected.
She scrolled down the list as the employee had instructed and selected the one called Isis, just because she thought it sounded cool. Well, no, that wasn't the only reason, but of course that was the main one. It probably didn't really matter what one she chose anyway, any of the robots would probably be no more difficult to opperate than the next.

"Alright..."

She wasn't sure if the others could hear her or not, but oh well...

OOC: Never played MechAssault before. Does it help to say that I think there's a close link between the ZOE engine and the way Armored Core games play out? 'Cause the two seem alot alike in game physics, 'cept that OFs have got anti-gravity devices.

IC>>>

(Isis didn't just sound cool. It WAS cool. The file came up on Isis before Faria's very eyes. It was an Anubis-type, which meant it looked alot like the jackal-headed Orbital Frame that Winger was in control of, which also looked kind of like Osiris. Faria had picked a tough one. There were a wide range of energy weapon attacks, powerful charged blade attacks, and a other neat little features that the manual wouldn't go into detail about. Let's just stick to the fact that Isis is a destroyer and leave it at that. The file pertaining to its background stated that it was a machine created from the first high-powered Orbital Frame, Idolo, possessing incredible power, though not always so controllable as for perhaps organizing a surgical strike. Basically, this thing was practically an Anubis. It's just that Anubis was one of two OFs that could bring about the end of a galaxy in the games.)

Niko: Oooh! Good pic! You probably don't know, but that one's right up here with these two. Well...maybe not big-boy Osiris, here, but that's because he's a new custom-job.

Winger: How'd that thing get created?

Niko: Story-wise?

Winger: Yeah.

Niko: I dunno... I'll punch it up in a sec. Meanwhile, are we ready to start?

"Um... Alright."

Faria had no clue that the Orbital Frame that she'd chosen was difficult to use, but she did think it looked as cool as its name sounded. It looked alright though, control-wise. She didn't care much for all the weapons it had, knowing she'd probably only have enough concentration to switch between one or two of them.
She was ready to play, or at least as ready as she could be, though she really had no idea what to expect. How many people were gonna be in this game they were in? The game seemed popular enough, but she wasn't sure how many people could play at one time if all the slots were full.
She laughed at herself inside, though. Wow, this was just a game and she was being so serious about it, not wanting to waste the money Winger and Niko had spent for her play. But they knew she probably wouldn't do so hot and were okay with it anyway. She just had to let herself have fun.

((ooc-Ah, MechAssault is just a mech game... um, I can't think of any examples right now though... heh... but this's just giant robots that run around and fight, right? lol, I think I've watched enough about giant fighting robots to help her follow along alright ^^;;))

OOC: Not runnin, but flying. Orbital Frames are designed mostly for air and space, though some are known to stand on the ground at times. Besides, you are in space.

IC>>>>>

(All the players had assembled now, with Niko on Osiris, Winger on Anubis, Faria on Isis, Jehuty taken by another guy and...suddenly space got alot more crowded as a Tempest Orbitial Frame came surging forth from the nebula, practically a battleship by the size of it. This would actually give most people pause, since a Tempest was more maneuverable in an open space.)

Posted Image

(Underneath the protective dome was its real head.)

Winger: Geez... Who picked that thing?

"Funny you should ask. I just happened to notice you guys all strapped in and thought I'd pop in for a bit of fun."

Niko & Winger: Jake?!

Jake: Surprised? I like this game too!

(The battle was on! Niko and Winger strafed left and right while Jake laughed maniacally and used each of the prong-appendages to mercilessly fire on the Jehuty player!)

Faria looked around, studying and taking in what the game looked like more than playing it. When she was struck by something, she wasn't entirely sure how she knew she was hit, but she stopped looking around and started playing, trying to hit the giant Orbital Frame, just because it would be an easier shot.
Even though she had been instructed on how to use the controls, she knew next to nothing about what she was supposed to be doing, but she tried her best.
It looked like that robot had some sort of force field thing around it's head so she aimed at hitting it's arms... or legs... or whatever those things were called. Most of her shots missed, her aim being quite terrible, but again, she was trying her best.
Every time she hit it made a really strange sound, or, that's what she thought. She started to wonder if her attacks were doing anything to the other robot.

*PWANG! PWANG! PYON!*

(Faria's shots with the energy blasts struck against the appendages of the Tempest and made that odd sound because they weren't doing much at all. This was a heavy-armor Orbital Frame. It could only be hurt well in a few places. Jake had managed to entrap the Jehuty player in a swirling blast of flames and knocked him out of the game. One had to be careful against these heavy-mechs. Then...)

Jake: Oh no, you don't!

(The Tempest fired into what appeared to be empty space, but it looked as if Osiris and Anubis suddenly occupied that space. They had been using the special Zero Shift maneuver, but Jake knew its secrets.)

Jake: It really stings when a guy puts an energy blast in front of one of those!

Niko: Hey, Faria! Hit the dome! It's the only way to get to the head. You could also get the cockpit, but that's not nearly as easy.

(Unfortunately, as soon as he said it, Jake placed the Tempest's six arms in a defensive posture. He wasn't gonna make this easy!)

Jake: I never played the villain before! Mwa ha ha ha haaa!!

Faria blinked. Wow, this guy sure had a lot of energy. As soon as Niko had told her to go for the dome, she maneuvered her robot up so she could see it better and get a better shot. She aimed her weapons where Niko said, but before she was ready to shoot, the guy named Jake had already put up his defenses and she wasn't able to attack him.

"Gah, Niko, now what?"

She noticed that none of the other players stopped moving their robots at all, probably to be harder targets to hit. She wasn't firing at anything right now, so she imitated them, trying not to be easy to shoot, but she knew that as soon as she found a place to attack, she couldn't move and fire at the same time so that would be a bit difficult. For now, though, she just moved around as much as she could.
She waited for her friend's instructions on how she could help in defeating this seemingly energetic guy's robot.

"Gah, Niko, now what?"

Niko: Wait for it...

(Without warning, Osiris vanished from both scanners and sight. It was completely undetectable! Niko snickered and Winger seemed confused. However, as Niko did his thing - whatever it was - Anubis was letting off a high-energy yield from his burst engines. The red energy zig-zagged around and they could hear Jake mumbling "Oh shit..." as they struck the hull of the machine. That was when he let all-out with the guns of his six arms on Isis and Anubis. Faria's indicator exclaimed that evasive maneuvers needed to be taken NOW...and Anubis seemed to vanish and reappear farther out, still having taken some damage. The scene was both unnerving and unparalleled in its graphical beauty. And then...)

Niko: My turn!

(Osiris reappeared above the Tempest and shot down with what appeared to be Phalanx shots onto the dome. This dealt it some damage, but Osiris was suddenly swatted away by a giant Tempest arm.)

Niko: You're up, Faria!

Faria panicked a little, forgetting that it was only a game and that she'd no need to panic, but she did.

"Umm...."

She moved around, trying to dodge the flailing arms of the giant robot. She was finally able to get above it and fire at the dome that Niko'd told her to attack. No sooner had she went to jab at the firing button, in a rather good place to attack, she thought, did she get hit by one of the big OF's arms.
She let out a squeak of surprise as she fumbled with her joystick, trying to gain control over her robot again, and quite failing at it, too. She started to regret that she didn't ask Winger or Niko if there was an easier robot that she should have used instead.

"Now what???"
