"WHY?!" The shout was followed by a crashing noise, like a rock thrown into a tree. In reality, it was a fist tossed against a tree, a tree that now had a huge dent in it. Liger's hand retracted, slowly back down to his side. The forest, not to dense around him, was quiet, it seemed to freeze in the moment. His eyes to the forest floor, his mind was moving a mile a minute. "I know I'm strong..." He voiced his thoughts, raising his hand again. His aura became a distinct golden color, surrounding his whole body, but concentrating in his outstretched palm. "...Yet why can't I HELP ANYONE!?!?!" He launched a beam attack with his yell, annihilating the tree in front of him. his aura remained, and he turned quickly, drawing his sword in one fluid motion, jumping toward the nearest tree. "WHY CAN I NOT HELP RAINE?!" His blade readied as he fell toward the trunk. "WHY CAN I NOT HELP AURA?!" He drew it back above his head, energy gathered around it, sheening and glowing deeply. "WHY CAN I NOT HELP MYSELF?!" He brought the sword down as it contacted with the tree. All that energy transferred through the medium, turning the tree into nothing but sawdust. Three lines of pure energy shot from the tip of his blade, traveling across the ground, cutting down any foliage it hit, tearing through the ground like teeth. The energy fizzled after a while, leaving the trenches in it's wake. Liger was sweating, panting and tired. Only two attacks, but both stronger than nearly anything he'd done before. His emotions were on high, his mind tuned to his strength, even if it was negative. "I don't care about my strength anymore..." He began, turning around yet again. Behind the first tree he destroyed was a boulder, about ten feet tall, just as wide, and just staring at him. It mocked him, how it stood there, so strong and tall. It protected the area behind it, protected it with noble glory. A rock, doing exactly what he strived to do. he couldn't bear it, he readied his sword again, and his energy as well skyrocketed. He struck up a yell in his charge, channeling his energy into his sheening blade. "SEVEN BLADE STRIKE!!" He called out the name of his attack, the six duplicate blades appearing around him. They, as well as his true blade, centered in on the boulder, all in unison. A flash of light ensued, one could see Liger's spirit was tossed full on in that attack. The light subsided not a second later, revealing Liger, his attack completed, with little success. The boulder stood there, as tall as ever, as thick as ever. His blade was embedded in the rock, there were six cuts around him, but the rock stood fast. He sighed, blood trickled slowly down his chin. He figured as much, even with all his effort he was weak, just delusioning himself with strength. The hilt of Liger's sword, slightly embedded in his chest held him up, he allowed his body to give out, resting against the sword and the rock. "Well, at least I know my sword still works." He said jokingly, drifting into a very light sleep. |

Why could he not help anyone? Well, that in itself was a matter of opinion was it not? Yes, yes it was. A matter of sheer opinion as there were many ways to help others. He could not help with his strength, as he was comparatively weaker to the woman that he loved. Was that why he was weak, because he had once lost to her in training? The feeling of his weakness was not mutual to the young lady known only as Aura. By comparison Liger was the strongest person she had ever met. Not because of his physical strength, but by his strength of compassion. She did not care if he was weak, as she loved him because of how he was. He was that nice guy that had helped some random girl so long ago without worrying about his own safety and even had gotten rather hurt because of it. He was that sentimental boy that blamed himself for his sister’s condition even though the feeling there was probably not mutual as well. It was the same reason she had thrown herself in harm’s way. It was really the only reason anyone through himself or herself in harm’s way for another. It was because they saw something in that person that gave them that drive to protect. That will power to sacrifice one’s own being in order to protect another. Whilst it was not necessarily love that caused these things to happen there was a chance that it could be love. In this case the chances were greater then not of being that one and only true love that a girl feels for that special boy. It is not always the case, but whenever she thought about being near him her heart fluttered and her emotions swayed. If she had met anyone else at such a time in her life she may have been swayed to do things that she rather regretted, but Liger had been a perfect gentleman, and that was rather necessary for a girl with such frail emotions. They were slowly growing stronger, but just as one smelts iron into steel there is still a chance to cool it too quickly and ruin the entire process. She had had that happen to her and it derived one of her greatest fears. She was scared of demons and their kin. She learned to distinguish the difference, but her fear of demons was rather rational from her standpoint. That had not stopped the refining process however and may have only made it stronger. Maybe it was the forest noise that drew her to the forest, but it did. That light breeze that made the trees dance and the soft noises of the creatures that lurked there in, but there was an odd noise in the forest that she could not understand. It was an odd noise as if from a loud shout that echoed throughout the woods. She followed it quickly quickening her pace as she heard the wind carry her name to her ears. Was it someone she knew? Was it Liger or was it someone just shouting the word aura? It was odd when one’s name is a common word that just about anyone could muster to use if given the chance. She really wanted to know if she had a real name of some sort that was locked away in her memory. A name that was not something she had just always been called, but a name that she could call her own. Her family name and the name her parents had given her. Their names and their faces was all she wanted to know and remember. Was that so much to ask? She quickly made her way to a thinning in the woods. The trees grew sparse and separated as if she had willed it in order to move quicker instead of having to dodge and dart around trees and low set branches, but her journey was cut short as she saw the destruction that lay before her and in the center was the blue haired boy that she knew as Liger. He leaned sleepily against the sword that his father had crafted for him. The giant ox man that was his father still had surprised her when they had met. They were a very nice family, but maybe it was just her emotions talking, but she could not help but think she had gotten the best one. Silently, as if led by the wind, she stepped toward him slowly. The pace she had set was now one of more stealth as if not to wake her beloved. Moving gracefully over the forest floor she made her way to him with a rather large smile on her face at seeing him. She did not mind the destruction that surrounded him. It was just a little training was all. Nothing serious as he was not bleeding or battered, just a little tired from some training. Her graceful dance stopped inches short of him as he would wake up to a nice surprise as she wrapped her arms around him. |

A pain went through the boy's chest as he felt a light weight on his back, and a little pressure around his waist. His eyes fluttered open with a wince, his mind was a tad disorientated, but he recognized the aura of the person behind him, and looked down. His eyes caught sight of his little wound, bleeding slightly, but nothing big, and a glint of gold, the bracelet he bought for his love. He put his hand on the rock in front of him and pushed off, unlodging the gemmed hilt of his sword from his chest with a quiet yelp. "Aura..." He began, coughing a little and placing his hand upon hers. He didn't turn around, he didn't want her to see him like this. She admired his strength, though he was sure that if she saw him like this, injured by the feedback of his own attack, her respect for him would lower. He sighed, bowing his head in defeat. He tried to take in a deep breath, but as he moved his chest out, his pain intensified and he quickly exhaled. "Aura, am I helpful to you?" He just had to ask, no matter the concequences. He loved her, and he knew her love for him, but there was still doubt about his usefulness. Even with his strength, his power he'd aquired through training, hardship and learning, was he a bother more than an assistance? He squeezed her hand tightly, slightly fearful of the answer, but anticipating the truth. |

Maybe it was pure bias, but she loved how he said her name even if he was rather tired from training so hard. It had a sort of melodious ring to it when he said it. As if her name was not terribly plain and dull. As if it was an actual name and not just a word that meant nothing to most people. It made her feel needed and important to know that someone recognized her name as being a name and not just another word that could be thrown around. It was as if ‘Aura’ was her real name and at this moment if that were her real name she would be satisfied in the end. She smiled as he said her name and it hung in the air like the clouds that drifted about on the breeze that loomed overhead. He took her hand and caressed it softly. Amidst her happiness there was a looming dread that began to creep up on her. Why would he not look at her? Was there something he was warring with himself to say? She could only guess what he was feeling as he talked, but only that dread pessimistic side of her flooded into her mind. The thought that he wanted someone else -- someone normal to be with instead of her. It pecked at her mind, but at least he was going to honest, yes? He would certainly not lie to her would he? Well, it would not really matter all that much would it. She had not wanted him to lie to her, but that was such a selfish desire from some time ago when they first found each other. Maybe he deserved someone better then her, but that was not it at all. He vocalized the words, but the were not the ones that she dreaded. They were something else. They were a question that he dreaded. Did she think he was useful? Such an odd question to ask her at such a time. She could feel her emotions wane as they always did. They tried to hold, but they were brittle and cracked easily. In this case they stood no chance against the flood of emotions that she had tried to bottle up. They came easily and flowed as silent tears down her cheeks. She pulled her hand away and embraced him even tighter than she had before. Did she find him useful? “Liger,” she replied quietly. “I do not think I would be here without you. You are the most important person in my life at the moment. That means very little from one that has lived for such a very short time I suppose, but it means a lot to me. Just having you by my side makes me happy. I do not know what you mean by helpful, but to me you are more important than anything. If you could not fight or were weak it would not change who you are. All I want you to do is remember that I do not care. All I care about is that you stay Liger. If you do that you will be more helpful than anyone has ever been.” |

Even though Aura's voice was quiet, shaking, and timid, Liger heard every word as thought it was directly implanted into his brain. Liger wiped the small ammount of blood from his face, but looked at his hand in surprise. It was much wetter than it should've been, he sniffed quietly as he tried to wipe the tears from his cheeks. He coudlnt' believe he was crying, how foolish. Though the words Aura spoke were perfect, he heard exactly what he needed to, and despite loosing to the rock, and even loosing to his own emotions, he felt a wave of happiness sweeping over him. He lightly loosened her grip on him, just enough for him to turn around, looking into her waterlogged eyes. Then again, his eyes musn't have been anymore of a sight, they were just as wet as hers were. "Thank you Aura." He said quietly, trying again to wipe the tears from his face. Unfortunately for him, they just wouldn't stop coming. He did feel a little foolish, but at this point, he didn't care anymore. His importance in life has been estblished, and the person most important to him was standing in his embrace, confessing that fact to him. There was honestly nothing more that could be said, he just gazed lovingly into her dark eyes. No matter how much she hated them, he would love them forever. What they lacked in life, they made up for symbolism for his love. |
