Pidgeon Feathers and Rose Buds; Cyan for now...?

Faria lay on her back on a shaded bench in the garden. She was beyond bored and could't think of anything to do. She didn't feel like spending time indoors, though it was cooler. She didn't feel much like swimming, and nothing inspired her to create anything artistic that would be worth looking at.
She sighed. With nothing to do, and nothing to think about, she felt rather sad. She could think of a few things worth thinking about, but one made her feel quite giddy, and the other angry. Feelings she'd rather avoid at this moment...
She chewed absentmindedly on the string to her bodice-top, staring at the sky. She tapped her boot against the back of the bench. A bird, somewhere in the tree above her started and flew off, almost startling Faria herself. She watched the bird fly away and then looked back at the sky. As she watched, it looked like one of the clouds was... falling??? She sat up quickly and looked again, removing the string from her mouth.
She reached out and caught whatever it was that was falling. A feather. Nifty.
She stood up and stretched, still holding the feather, and started to walk off down the garden path. She glanced around, talking to her feather.

"So empty, there's no one anywhere."

She twirled the feather by the quill and then she spotted a large rose bush. It was filled with flowers. Most were still buds, but a few had bloomed and she breathed in their aroma slowly. She loved the smell of roses.
Still bored, she yawned and poked at one of the buds with the bottom end of the feather, making dark red spots on its petals. Fun fun fun.

Another was also in the garden. Like Faria, he thought himself to be the only one in the garden. A five minute walk, seeing nobody, had made him assume he was alone.
In his hand, he carried a violin. It had been a while since he had last used it.
Not since...
"Best not to think on that," he murmered, looking down at the lovingly polished wood.
A light grey shirt and black pants made up his garb today. It was covered by a black and red robe, one of the extras he had in his dorm. Another, he'd lent to...
He sighed, smiling slightly.

He had not sleapt well last night, after leaving the lake. It showed, if not on his face, then in his ees. His face looked as youthful as ever. His eyes, though, looked weary, tired of it all.
"A good nights rest...That's all I want, all I need."
He'd figure out what was causing these dreams, and rid himself of the problem.
Until then, he'd liven his heart.
"Here we are," he said at last. One of his favorite spots. It was a nearly enclosed area. The bench he sat on, nearly surrounded by roses and lilacs, ferns and sunflowers.
It was beautiful.
He set the violin to his chin.
He did not play it like a violin, though.
Adjusting his hold slightly, and the angle, he began playing a fast, upbeat song.
The greatest thing about the violin? It could also be a fiddle.

Faria stopped torchuring the bruised rosebud and stood up, listening. Was that music?
She held her breath, silently cursing that the birds couldn't shut up for just a second. It was comming somewhere in front of her. Ah yes, the joy of gardens, giant human sized mazes that would take you anywhere except where you wanted to go, but her curiosity got the best of her, once again, and, selecting a direction at random, she set off in search of the lively music.
The music reminded her of someone... but she wiped away the hope quickly, knowing that she was likely wrong and she didn't want to get herself excited, only to find that she was wrong and then end up in a bitter disappointment.
Still twisting the feather between her fore finger and thumb, she walked along the garden paths, following the phantom music. Closer now, she could make out that it was a fiddle of some sort. The musician played an unfammiliar tune, but she found that she liked it for a reason that she couldn't name.
Wandering through the flowers and neatly cut bushes, shaping the walls. Every so often she's come across a bush trimmed in the shape of an animal or figure.
Now the music was quite loud, she was right on top of the player, but where were they? The music was comming through the bushes to her left. Looking, she caught sight of a figure sitting on a bench under the tree. She could make out the instrument at his chin and could see his bow flicking back and forth with the music, but couldn't quite make out the person, though the odd familiarity was back, and this time it made her heart skip.
Careful not to disturb him, she slowly peered around the bushes entering into the section of the garden. Seeing who it was, she stood there at the opening, unsure what to do.
She blinked dumbly, still listening to his song. Her hopes had been right after all, but now that she'd gotten the assurance of it, she didn't know what to do next. She decided to stand there quiet and listen, the song catching into her head. She didn't want it to disappear so quickly as his whistling had the night before.

Cyan continued the song. A quiet smile was on his face. His robes billowed about his frame, his hand and wrist moving quickly.
"I need practice," he muttered, coming to an end with a resounding high note.
He sniffed, and frowned slightly. It was as though there was something in the air, which he recognized, but couldn't quite place the odor.
He shrugged.
"Damn robe," he said aloud.
Setting down the violin, he quickly removed the upper half of it, revealing the grey, loose fitting shirt he wore beneath.
"That's a bit better now..."
Turning, he made to pick up the violin again.
Looking up, he saw a familiar face, one that was definatley not unpleasent to view.
"What?" He muttered, all but dropping the violin in his surprise.
"Wh-what're you doing here?"

"Oh! I didn't mean to startle you."

Faria backed up, dropping her feather. A sharp feeling that maybe she shouldn't be there hit her and she hesitated. Her heart was beating quickly now. She didn't want to leave, but had seen his surprise and thought maybe she was unwelcome.

"I-I'm sorry. I'll leave if you want me to. I just thought---"

Her tongue caught in her throat, not quite sure what she had thought.
Seeing him there in the daylight was much different, and she was struck by how he looked now without the darkness trying to hide him from her. The beauty of the garden completed with him standing where he was created some sort of artistic scene that, she thought, looked like it belonged in one of her picture books.
Catching herself staring at him, she bowed her polite greeting quickly in respect.

"I really liked your playing, by the way."

She held her bow a little longer than she'd intended, stalling so she wouldn't have to look at him again too soon, afraid of being rude and staring again. Maybe she should just leave and quit bugging him.

Cyan recovered quickly. She had given him a bit of a surprise, suddenly appearing.
"No, I'm sorry," he said quickly, setting down the violin.
"You just startled me, is all."
He reached out, placing his hand over hers.
"Please, stay. I wouldn't want to disturb you."
He studied her a bit longer. In the daylight, she looked a bit different. And not in a bad way, either.

"I really liked your playing, by the way."

"You think so?" he asked her. "I haven't had a chance to play, recently...not much inspiration, I guess....Today, I fealt like playing."
He didn't tell her that, lastnight, he had fealt the urge to play. He had fiddled with his piano, and tightened the strings on his violin. That morning, he had nabbed up his violin and had come out here.
"I didn't expect to find you here..."

Faria looked back up at him, studying his face breifly. She was glad he wasn't angry and she eased up a little.
Standing up strait agian she smiled again. What was up with this smiling, nee? She couldn't remember ever smiling as much as she had last night or this morning. But why, though?
She shook her head agreeing with him.

"I hadn't expected to find anyone out here..."

Him least of all... She turned her hand over to hold his that was covering her own. She was unsure why she did it, but instead of pulling away right away, she held onto his for a while before letting go.

"But I'm glad that you are out here."

Oh no. That was too bold. She hesitated for a second. She couldn't fix it now, it'd already been said. She lightly bit the inside of her lip and let go of his hand.
She then remembered that she'd dropped her feather. She bent her knees to pick it up and then straightened, twirling it again. heh... the silly distractions that she found.

His brows rose at her statement, but he smiled.
"Glad to see me?" he asked her, looking to her from the corner of his eye.
"Well, if it means anything to you...I'm glad to see you, too."
He winked, before turning away, until the slight reddening in his face subsided.
"So, ah, do you come out here often, to the garden?" he asked her, looking skyward.
Cyan himself didn't come to the garden too often. But, with such a nice day and all...He really couldn't resist.

"Actually, not so much. Maybe once or twice."

Faria shrugged. She made her way to the bench and sat down cross-legged on it, nibbling on the quill of the feather. She watched Cyan for a moment, not so much staring as she was letting her mind drift in thought.
Funny that she'd end up comming across him, totally by accident, right after the night she'd met him, and by the same means too. Hearing his music made her heart feel lighter and things troubling her didn't seem quite so bad anymore, or as long as the song lasted, and some time after it had ended as well.
She started poking at the quill in her mouth with her tongue. As her mind wandered, her line of vision had too, and she realized that she was looking at his robe. His robe!
Her tongue caught on a splinter and she pulled the feather from her mouth quickly, somewhat startled by the pain. She rubbed her tongue on the roof of her mouth a moment before speaking up.

"Cyan, I still have your robe."

She looked up at him, somewhat searching for his eyes, but she wouldn't be disappointed if he didn't look at her. His face was enough for her to look upon by itself for the moment.
His robe was tucked away safely inside her locked trunk somewhere safely on the edge of the forest near the lake. Since four school houses/dorms were put together, soon after she'd arrived, she'd been camping out there by herself. She'd made a fairly good tent, it served it's purpose, and managed to find an affordable sleeping bag. Even if they hadn't built the new dorms, her dorm room hadn't a lock anyway. Camping in the woods didn't seem too much different, ecept for the cold... but it was bearable.

"No? I thought such a flower, would like to be amongst the flowers."
He turned back, under control again, looking to her next to him. He fealt better, when she was nearby. It had been so long, since he'd had something to take his mind off of...things. It was a very welcomed distraction.

He looked down at the feather, his eyes moving slowly up to her face, meeting her eyes, the color of the sea, he thought.
"You can keep the robe, for now, if you'd like," he said to her, offering a smile. "You camp in the forest, don't you? It gets cool, at night. I have a few other robes. You can keep the one you have, until they get your dorm fixed up, and ready for you to sleep in."

He wanted to ask her, if she would like to move in with him. He wanted this feeling of peace to last. Mabey, he hoped, his sleep would not be troubled, while she was there.
It was, though, he thought, too soon, too presumptious of him, to ask her that, though.
One step at a time.

"I could play you another song, if you'd like," he said to her. "Mabey something a bit slower?"

Faria hesitated at Cyan's words. She'd never recieved such a comment before... in her life! She hid her surprise, but it took her a while to register what he'd meant.
She felt her cheeks start to blush, but she looked up at him quickly when he said she could keep the robe.

"But I couldn't possibly...!"

She stopped suddenly. He knew she was staying in the tent? Oh, well, that couldn't be too hard to guess, could it? He'd probably stumbled across it on his way back to the school last night. Wait, but his reason for her staying there like that was wrong.
She shook her head, somewhat embarrassed by the school's unorganization and her failure to be able to get them to correct the problem.

"Oh no, I'm not going to be getting my old dorm back. It's part of the Genbu House now."

She scratched the back of her head, her smile showing her nervousness about the situation.

"You see, I wasn't sorted into any of the Houses. I've tried to fix it but the staff's been too busy taking care of the students who have been sorted. It's really no problem, I don't mind staying in the woods. It's probably better that way."

She shrugged, really feeling like it was no big deal. Of course it would be nice to have her own bathroom and electricity, but she could use the locker room's showers and the library/computer room for the electricity that she needed for anything anyway. A bit of a hassle, yes, but she thought it just to be the misfortune of her life so far.
Well, she was very fortunate in many ways, she was sure, but not enough to make any real significance in the way she thought. Generally, her life was just complicated, which she thought as being unfortunate.
But then again, if there was nothing she could really specifically call pleasant, then what would she call her meeting with this strangely pleasant boy?

"I could play you another song, if you'd like. Mabey something a bit slower?"

Faria looked back at him, her gaze resting on his face. Her eyes had almost met his, but she was careful of this, knowing if she did so, she wouldn't be able to look away. She nodded.

"Yes, please, that would be wonderful!"

She smiled, excited as her personality would allow. Not even two days and she could easily say to herself without lying that she loved his music.

"They all have a roof over their heads, and a bed to sleep in." he said, "As long as they don't burn their dorms down, I should think they're all set. They should turn their attention to the students who don't have a roof and a bed yet, instead of fretting over little knick nacks like if the hot water works yet...Which it dosen't."
He grinned devilishly. He'd taken his fair share of cold showers, since the dorms had been opened up.

"Yes, please, that would be wonderful!"

He smiled, glad she seemed to enjoy his playing.
"Let's see...A slow song, I had said..."
He cleared his throat, and set the butt of the violin against his chin.
"I think I have just the one."

Linky for violin! (I actually learned the whole song of this)

He kept his concentration on his playing, while he did, keeping down urges to look up and see what she thought.

Finally, the music wound to a close, and he looked up.
"How was that?" he asked her.

There was no hot water in the new dorms? Well, that seemed like a normal school, worrying over little things like that... but then she was okay with that. Faria was just one student and that was for the comfort of many others. She didn't really mind. Her comfort over their's really seemed the lesser problem. Though the schools mix up with priorities, or how Cyan saw it, did relieve her a little. Normal schools complained about similar issues like better school lunches and teacher's "low pay" when what they really needed was new text books and desks that didn't fall over when a student tried to write on them. This school was so different from any other she'd attended and knowing it had issues like a normal school made her feel better about all the new things she'd encountered.
Funny, she suddenly realized. Out of all the students she'd met so far, Cyan seemed to be the most normal one she'd encountered. She was sure he had several secrets, though, that he kept to himself, but she did to. To her knowledge he was just as normal as she was... Maybe he dressed a bit differently, but she liked his clothes and they didn't seem to make the person inside them any more inhuman than she. Could this be part of the reason why she found such an attatchment to him?

"Let's see...A slow song, I had said... I think I have just the one."

Faria cleared her mind as he played, trying to listen to the music. She watched him as he played. She liked watching violin players play more than any other instrument. Unlike the people who played the clarinets or trumpets or other wind instruments, there was lot of movement with the violin. She'd always admired how they could play an instrument that looked so difficult to learn.
As he finished a small shiver ran up her spine. The song seemed familiar, but very anguished in a way. Though, she knew she was a poor judge at music. Something she thought to sound sad had, a lot of times, actually been a happy song. If this really was a sad song, she wondered, it strangely seemed to match a feeling that he hid well, but couldn't keep from entering his eyes.

"How was that?"

She found herself looking at his eyes, again, but wasn't so quick to try to pull away as she'd thought she'd be. She studied him for a moment, trying to figure something out, but she looked away then, somewhat afraid to find what she was looking for. She looked at her feet and tapped her toes together.

"It was pretty, but it sounded so sad."

She looked back up at him, her face almost expressionless except for a shadow of a smile held itself on her lips. She wasn't sure how she should react to such a song.

"Yes," Cyan agreed, "it is a sad song..."
His eyes grew hazy for a moment, and he turned away, blinking away tears that were misting up his eyes.
"It's a song of mourning," he told her, looking back, his eyes, perhaps for a moment, a little sadder than before. He had played the song, once, in what seemed a lifetime ago...
"But, it's meant to remind us, of what a short time we have, and to treasure what we have, and count our blessings."
He looked to her etes, his own lighting for a few moments.
"I know I do every day. Even in sadness, comes joy."

He cleared his throat, obviously uncomphortable with the little speech he'd just made.
"Enough of that, though...Perhaps you would like to go to lunch now? I hadn't expected to see you here...but this is as good as any time."

Faria noticed the sadness in his eyes and the tears that formed there. There was something about his sudden sadness that she couldn't bear and she wanted to reach out and touch him, to comfort him. She couldn't explain her feelings towards him at that moment, but she frowned on herself inside that she couldn't bring herself to act on them.
When he looked at her though, she'd caught his eyes and noticed that the sadness disappeared, if only for a second, and her stomach did an odd summersault.
She repeated his words inside her head, "to treasure what we have, and count our blessings.....Even in sadness, comes joy." He was right, wasn't he... She suddenly felt guilty, knowing that, most of the time, she couldn't do this. She didn't really look at the bad things and dwell on them, but she'd come to just think they were part of life. But maybe she could focus more on good things and what they meant, instead of just accepting the bad.
His tears and words had gotten her into a thoughtful mood. His sadness had drifted into her thoughts and displayed itself lightly on her face, but when he mentioned lunch she realized that she was a little hungry and she perked up.

"Alright, that sounds like a good idea. Erm..."

She remembered that he'd wanted to go somewhere in the town and not here on the campus. She fidgetted with her feather without looking, flipping it from finger to finger.

"Where did you want to go?"

Cyan smiled, glad she agreed for lunch.
"There's a place, near the Entertainment District of the city. A nice outside restaurant. And after that," he shrugged, "mabey a movie, if you'd like."
He rose, offering her his hand.
"But first...I had best drop my instruments back off, at my dorm room. You can come, if you like...or meet me at the restaurant."

Faria matched his smile, taking his hand. She stood up and shook her head.

"I don't know where the restaurant is, so I guess I'll go with you to your dorm."

She stretched her arms above her head and yawned. Looked like they'd be walking a while yet today.
She looked up at him quietly, still in disbelief that she would be going out to eat with someone such as Cyan... Her of all people! Maybe it wasn't as big a deal as she was making it out to be, but maybe it was. She was positive that he'd eaten with plenty of other people before, she was aware of that, but just the thought of this...
The fluttering feeling in her stomach was back and she let her gaze fall down to one of his hands. Her eyes studied his fingers and the muscles that held his hand together, a little more defined than most, probably from his violin playing she guessed... She'd always favoured the way hands looked as opposed to any other body part to draw. She also liked the challenge of drawing them. It always felt good to have drawn an anatomically correct hand and be able to look at it without cringing.
She hid it well, but she was excited, for many reasons. Not for just getting to have lunch with a new friend, something she'd never really had before. But part of her excitement, she knew, had to do with the same feeling she'd felt last night by the lakeside. Though the feeling was not unwelcome, it frightened her a bit, it's meaning to her a mystery.
She drew her eyes away from Cyan's hand and crossed her arms behind her back, patiently waiting for him to lead the way.

Cyan nodded, his eyes lighting for a moment. Obviously, he was glad she had decided to come along.
"Alright, then," he said to her. "It's not too far, I think. It's in Byakko. It gives a very stunning view of the city, since it's so close."
"The restaurant is really easy to find. You could see it from my dorm room, if one particular building wern't in the way..."
He scowled, for just a moment. That building was in the way of a perfect view of the city. Mabey he'd knock it down some day...
He grinned at the thought, but it was soon out of his mind, his thoughts drifting back to Faria.

ooc- guess we can continue this in byakko, if you want. Or at the restaurant. PM me so I can set up properly.

"That's a bummer. I'm sure the view's still pretty nice though."

Faria smiled back at him, she was excited as well, though she could hide it little better than Cyan could. When his eyes lit up she couldn't help smiling. Could he be excited for not having to eat alone, or was he really excited that he would get to hang out with her? Again she was in disbelief that Cyan really felt anything for her, no more than just another friend, but oh well.
She rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet slowly, hands still behind her back. She allowed her thoughts to drift elsewhere, wondering what the rest of the day had in store for her. Secretly in the back of her mind, she wondered, and in some way hoped, that this fluttery feeling in her stomach might be in his as well whenever he looked at her... but maybe she was just being selfish, hoping for too much.

((ooc-- um... yeah, I PMed you @_@))
