OOC: I'm up to some bad business again... The killer Bs are back!

IC>>>

(It was a long time ago...before he met Roy. Daniel had come here, to where his father worked, just to visit him...when he saw it. The building, the energy, the spirits - everything. He saw evil, intense and overwhelming evil, a load of monstrosities who worship the crimson light. That would mark the end of his father's business, not to mention his father, and the beginning of MassaCorp. Of course, on that day, the building also collapsed and died, but the company name stayed on, under the name of the CEO, Trent Massarino. Daniel had heard from the youthful company-owner, Sei Matrix, that Trent was not what he seemed at all. He was a thing, a monster. He wasn't sure. Now...Daniel Anderson, Roy Taban, and Sai...something-or-other...were standing before this building. Correction... This was nothing more than a pile of rubble that had apparently never been cleaned up. Ever. The building had been a living thing, sort of, until the stress of battle killed it off. Daniel remembered it clearly...and shuddered.)

Daniel: It was alive, you see? It was like an animal that cloaked itself against the world, the inside containing demons galore, as it descended from the living world into a spot just between. Death and life hung in the balance. I don't know how we ever survived. Me, Jake, Teo, Shira, Sei, Rem...

(At the mention of Rem, he stopped. He was a good friend to her, but her life was all but ruined by a conspiracy of metas who wanted to kill her. On her toes every day, she lived carefully until she finally left Japan altogether. She hadn't been seen since. The darkness had effected them all in the most terrible of ways. They survived...terrified. And now, so long after the battle with the Brethren spirits...)

Daniel: It's...not here? I don't understand! I remember the scar in the sky! It intersected the building! It was here... I swear it...

(It must have been here! He still sensed evil lurking around! Was it hidden from them somehow?)

Sai walked up slowly behind Daniel, her eyes scanning they sky very carefully, like she was looking for something. She was, it was Dust. If there truly was a rift here, Dust would be escaping from one world to another. It was a common problem with doors, that is why they needed to be closed. A rip on the other hand would not have any concentration of Dust around it, being part of nature itself. As she scanned the sky, she couldnt' see anything, but knew it was partially because of her weak form. She looked over at Daniel, staring at him for a few seconds. When she finally spoke, it was as if she had read his very thoughts. She knew he was thinking that, because so was she.

"It does seem logical that they would hide it. If they have done this much so far, they could be doing this to secure their victory. If you can't find the source of their power, then you will not be able to ever destroy them. Especially if they knew about the Watchers like me falling to this planet. But, I doubt that, since I have never heard of them before you, I doubt they have heard of Watchers."

She turned her eyes back to the sky, focusing them. She still couldn't see anything, not in her human form. She sighed, shaking her head slowly, knowing what was coming. She looked over at Daniel, her gaze much harder now, as if plowing through him while looking through him. Her body seemed to take a gentle golden glow to it as she spoke to him, her voice as cold as ice, perfectly nuetral.

"Alright, if you wish, I can locate the door or rip if it is here. It would require me to take my Watcher form. I must have your word that you will warn me if a wind is coming, and be willing to defend me if something else comes. If I die, then I will be useless to your cause. I don't wish to hear you saying that you do not want me to risk my life for this, I just wish for your promise."

How could she speak of her life and death as such? She had lived for over 5,000 years, and of course, her life meant alot less to those who hadn't lived nearly so long. She doubted she would ever see Order again, in the battlefield or not, because of the sheer danger there was in her weakened form. If she was going to die, she might as well do it doing something worthwhile.

(Daniel was suddenly caught in her gaze as it penetrated him to the bone, Sai talking to him as seriously as she did. Her voice settled somewhere at the base of his spine as she explained what she was doing and what she would need. That was when Daniel's expression hardened to a sheer determination. It was clear that keeping her safe was something he could do for her.)

Daniel: There will be no wind.

(Closing his eyes, Daniel silently concentrated on his powers. He would do better than merely warn her against wind. He would prevent wind from actually occurring. As he focused, there began a slight buzzing of electricity from the rubble and from the wires of telephone polls. It increased soon and a few bolts began to hum and buzz off of the surfaces, none of them going anywhere near harming anyone. Then, all at once, two lightning bolts shot up into the air from these spots and took the shape of...dragons. Two Yellow Dragons appeared in the air as Daniel opened his momentarily-glowing eyes. These two spirits were of the same force, but on both polarities. They looked down at the trio now, and then positioned themselves on both sides of that street, where wind could come from.)

Daniel: I won't let anything happen to you. These dragons will prevent the wind from ever getting close, and they're good against enemies too.

Roy: Keep them handy. I don't think we're alone...

(The funny thing about all this was...there really wasn't much of a portal being concealed here. A little background evil and...poof! A small portal could go easily overlooked...as could the small parasite-like creatures keeping an eye on the place. The Brethren know the meaning of follow-ups, and returning to the scene of a crime. Therefore, they also knew the meaning of baiting the trap, should anyone get too curious...)

Sai looked around, taking note of the two new allies that had made themselves apparent now. They were obviously Daniel's creation, she could tell that, but the more she learned about this boy, the more she was impressed on a large level. He wasn't even close to normal, he was extremely talented. And from what she could see, he was right, there wouldn't be any wind disturbing her work. She looked back at him and his half brother and nodded, taking a few steps forwards.

"Alright."

She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath in, then letting it out slowly. As she did, it seemed that her entire form was dissolving into fine golden dust. Another breath, another part of her dissolved, starting at the feet, making it all the way up to the head after five good breaths. The golden swarm of particles seemed to swirl together, then stop, blasting outwards as her wings came out. She wasn't at full power, but that didn't mean her Watcher form wasn't stunning. Without even stopping, she leapt into the air, soaring upwards, her wings beating as she did. She now was able to see the concentrations of Dust, only barely, but enough. She closed her eyes, mumbling to herself, as if chanting an incantation. In fact, she was meditating, drawing her power from the Dust she could see, even if only temporarily. It would drain her, she realized, but she was ready for that. Her eyes opened again, and she scanned the sky around the area, slowly but surely. What she saw, she could never describe with words. The sky itself was wrong, all wrong. It had been a door, and it had been sealed, but there something so wrong about it that she couldn't even explain. Something sickening about the way that the sky overlapped itself. She had seen rips, been through them many times, and never worried. But this.... this was no rip, this was not even a door, or it hadn't been. It made her physically ill just looking at what had once been. She just stared at it for a few minutes, then lowered herself down onto the ground, walking over to Daniel, still in her Watcher form. She would normally change back, but she still had things to do, and changing took more energy than she could handle twice.

"The sky has been forecfully ripped and repaired, damaged beyond anything I have ever experienced before. I can not tell if there is a part left open or not. It overlaps, the way it did, it was as if someone did it on purpose. Made it so that it closed, yet did it in such a way that it was sickening, unnatural. I can barely bring myself to look at it. But, I am going closer, to see if I can find an opening. If I can, I may have a chance to figure some things out. But be prepared. Roy is correct, we are most likely not alone."

With that, she turned around and soared into the air, higher and higher, until she was soon at the high point in the sky where the rip had been. Her fingers delicately traced the strange phenomena, a shiver running down her back. She had not felt hunger in her Watcher form ever, so she had never worried about a stomach that did not exist, but now she felt it, twisting around inside of her as she forced herself so close to what once was the natural sky. Whatever had done this, it had known what it was doing. And it had been doing alot more than Sai could have imagined. She was now totally focused on where the door had once been, not worried about the wind. She trusted Daniel, and his powers.

(There still was not any wind. The air was very still around here. In fact, it was almost stagnant, like a tomb. Daniel looked at Sai and what she was doing with astral eyes. He would have been in total awe over the watcher's golden self...if not for the ambient evil up there with her. He kept his focus, and the dragons did not abandon their charge. Daniel could not see exactly what she was talking about because of the knotted sky. People would feel that something was wrong here, and that is why they hadn't built anything in its place, but now...Sai was close, ever so close to it. Her initial look into the matter had gotten the attention of the things hidden there, but now her second run had made them most aware of the three interlopers. Sai touched the phenomenon, her form gliding over its astral shape. It was not physically present, of course. The parasites were all astral beings, spirits. Sai would find, shortly after she felt the strange hunger, that there was a movement within the overlapping mass. And then...a small part came undone! One moment, there was nothing, and then - as if a loose seam came open - the sky wavered and things began to appear...along with the last shred of the portal that was once here. There was a portal here, and this was the last of its bit. It was roughly the size of a fist, just able to accommodate the parasites, which were snake-like things with little arms and tendrils, their faces like an insect...only without the compound eyes. Astral Keepers is what they were. They latched onto beings to try and take control of them. Roy immediately noticed their presence. It was clear that he could see Brethren forces. Daniel saw them too, but did not react until after Roy spoke.)

Roy: Sai! Get out of there! They're dangerous!

(He sounded almost frantic, and not without good reason. Daniel knew why as well, and moved the dragons in closer, their growling voices sounded somewhat like static. The Keepers saw them coming and ran away. Sai would count a half-dozen of them. The portal throbbed like a heartbeat. It was small, but boy did it ever have presence. If Sai were to look into it, she would see...a world with a fiery crimson sun, overlooking a tall black tower whose top was not visible from this angle. It would be a desert, and that same feeling of evil would wash over everything in there. It was their world, the Brethren's world...)

Sai's attention was elsewhere as Roy's warning spread out through the air. She was looking at the rip, watching it with rapt attention as it opened. She watched as a small opening was opened, very concentrated, perfectly controlled, and as the small beasts appeared. She was not afraid of them, not even a bit. She knew that Daniel would protect her if needed. Besides, she really couldn't do anything else. Being this close to the rip had been more taxing than she had expected, and she knew her time in her Watcher form was extremely limited. In other words, she needed to get as much information about this rip in as little amount of time as she could. Getting closer, she lowered herself to look through the small opening, her curiousity at this world growing. A burst of cold fell over her, and it seemed that her golden wings seemed to dissapate for a second, then reappear, her wavering in the air. She felt sick, physically ill now, but she continued to look through the portal. What she saw and felt shocked and disgusted her. It wasn't a world of the dead, where congregations of dead spirits would meet and then go back to the world they had once lived in as part of the planet. It was a world of desolation, death, and evil, pure evil. She noted the tower, taking it in, and everythign else she could. But the evil kept washing over her, and she felt weaker and weaker, no matter how hard she tried to keep her form. Soon, her sight became blurry, and she started to falter, her particles seeming to have much less control over themselves, as if straining to dissapate, to kill her. After a moment, she looked as if she was falling backwards, and then she stared to fall, faster and faster towards the ground, her wings dissapearing. Her arms came up to her body as her wings pulled out quickly, a last ditch effort, sending her into a tumble roll onto the ground, her body seeming to instantly transform into her human shape, her clothing ragged and scant, like her energy. While in her fall, when her wings had pulled out, it seemed that she turned much thinner, as if she had to pull the energy from elsewhere. Panting, she just sat there on all fours, until she ended up retching, her entire body shuddering. Over and over, she did this, until there was nothing left, and even then, dry gags seemed to echoe through the area. It was a few moments before she was finally able to breathe again, and speak, her voice a faint whisper.

"Wha.... what.... was that......"

She was wearing a small top, that barely came down enough, and only a small skirt, like her top, barely enough to cover her. Her clothing mimiced how she felt, and she definently felt bad. The same with her hair and eyes. The usual shine and glimmer that seemed to accompany them were faded, and she looked much older. Her skin seemed wrinkled and grayed, her eyes hollow and dead, her hands seeming to shake under her own weight, which could not be much. Her shape was that of a 16-year old, but her condition was of one well over 80, very fragile and frail.

Daniel: SAI!

(He could see her strength fading, her form trying to dissipate while she still dared to look, deeper and deeper into that hole. Daniel felt nothing but ppure cruelty and torture from that hole. It was sapping her strength, weakening her to the point where her strength was at an end. He shouted her name when she fell, obviously worried about her well-being. The fact that she made a near 3-point landing was a downright miracle. Furthermore, that she was still alive was astounding! Daniel went over to her quickly as she wretched repeatedly from sickness and weakness. It was kind of pointless to ask if she was alright, but Daniel got down on one knee to see if she would be okay. She looked terrible, like she had one foot in the grave already.)

"Wha.... what.... was that......?"

Daniel: That was it. That was the scar, or what was left of it. It was alot bigger before, but I guess it hasn't grown much weaker. It did about the same thing to Teo. God, I never should've asked you to do this... All I ever seem to do is get my friends hurt. I'm sorry, Sai...

(His hands trembled as he spoke. He knew he shouldn't have asked her to do this, that it was more than a calculated risk. Daniel focused his mind again, this time drawing on a different force. During this time, the Yellow Dragons seemed to grow weaker, since his mind was suddenly focusing in a different direction. Very soon, a White Dragon, one that was a hybrid of Western and Eastern dragons, appeared over his head, placing its clawed hands upon Sai's shoulder. All forms of healing worked on the fundamental basis of energy, meaning that the body needed energy to heal. In the case of any severe to fatal wound, the body simply lacks the ability to amass the healing energy it needs. Hence, the White Dragon supplies what is needed, selflessly and without much of any compensation needed. Hopefully, Sai would recover her lost strength. Daniel hoped and prayed it would...)

Roy: Ummm...Daniel?

Daniel: What?

Roy: Speed it up, will ya? We're gonna have company soon.

(He didn't need to look. The Keepers had flown away, but only to regroup for the moment. Astral Keepers were largely a feral race, but the ones working for the Brethren were actually the core to their most useful servants; tall black-armored humanoids with crude one-eyed visages known as the Slayers. They were the greatest minions of the Brethren, for they had access to the Dark Power OF those Brethrenite scum...)

It only took a few seconds for the dragon to do it's work, and Sai felt much better. She would have survived anyway, no matter what happened, it just would have taken alot more time to recover than she had at first thought. But Daniel's powers did the trick, and she was pretty much back to normal within a few seconds. Watcher's not being a solid, it was easier for their energy to go back into place, since it was direct, not needed to start other systems. It was an interesting thought, and she wondered if Daniel's powers were powerful enough to fully restore her. But, that was too much of a drain, even for someone as powerful as him. A fully powered Watcher could do feats that humans couldn't dream of, while envying the human body. But even so, they needed alot of concentrated energy. Feeling the healing on her, she started to drift off. Hearing Roy's voice caused her to snap back into reality. Sai snapped her head backwards, looking as the creature's of darkness started to regroup. She looked at Daniel, nodding at him, a slight smile playing across her face.

"Thank you very much. But he is right, you need to take care of them. I will be fine, don't worry. And do NOT be sorry about what just happened. I am glad, happy almost, that I was able to see what I just saw. Though it was sickening beyond belief, it was something I needed to experience. Naivety and Watchers do not go well together, and that was almost enough to destroy what little bit I had left. I don't doubt that Order would have sent me there had I stayed on his side one day, just to do the same. So, don't let sorrow that will get you nowhere hurt you right now. You need to keep your head where it belongs, in the battle that is going on right now. Now go, get rid of those things before they infect this world further and get rid of its last line of defence. I will tell you what I have figured out afterwards. And don't worry about my present condition. I have been through worse before. These things are nothing compared to Metaron."

With that, she actually smiled, really meaning it, then looked back at the beings. She sat down, resting herself, but ready to leave if she needed to. She knew that she couldn't do anything else in her current condition, and that running was the best option. She could have left for the school and told Daniel to meet her there. That seemed more logical. But, for some reason, she didn't feel like being logical right now, not after what she just saw. She had a direct jolt to her heart, and she needed to sort out everything that had been jumbled before she could go back to being 'normal', and that would take some time. For now, she wanted to talk to Daniel and tell him what she had seen, hopefully helping him somehow. With that revalation, she sighed.

'Well, it seems as if my human shape has had more of a purpose than just housing my Watcher form. It seems as though it held my soul as well, even after ascension. Such a thing to loose when I go back, but I shall someday. But, for now, I might as well learn from it.'

(She was right. As much as he worried, he needed to stay focused. The worry passed off of his face as she said what she said, his understanding for the situation growing. Yes, it had been risky, but he clearly didn't know the sheer scale of things that Sai had gone through before coming here. It was just that her weakened state made her more vulnerable than at the height of her power. He understood this very well. Daniel felt that this was a rather profound moment, and that her words welled up a great confidence, but that he didn't have the time to express what that meant to him. He had only the time for a few words...)

Daniel: Thank you, Sai...

(...before turning to face the aggressors. He stepped closer to the ruin now, the White Dragon fading and the Yellow Dragons returning in strength. He looked up...and saw them. He had had to deal with these before, but usually in a maximum of three. Now, the Astral Keepers formed their black humanoid bodies over themselves, smooth like an insect's carapace, but hard like a crab-shell. These bodies WERE shells, black with a demonic one-eyed head. They carried weapons, staff-spear weaposn that ended in three blades - not like a pitchfork - called strikers. At the ends of those weapons, the red glow formed... Daniel stared into the aura of Dark Power, the destructive force that these spirits used. They were the Brethren of the Dark Power, evil incarnate. The Slayers now hovered over the ruin, looking at Daniel and his Yellow Dragons. They knew of him, from others. They raised their weapons to fire and the dragons let loose a wise blaze of electricity to prevent them from attacking. This was only effective for a few seconds, then they all split up to get around the dragons, to outflank and attack with confusion and chaos. The twin lizard-forms sizzled after the broken ranks, spewing their lightning bolts as the Slayers fired back with beams of crimson blight. The two forces were indeed hurting each other, and Daniel would receive a sort of backlash of pain for every hit. He was connected to his creatures. If they destroyed the two dragons, they would disable them for a time and weaken Daniel. The dragons shot past beams to claw savagely at one of the Slayers. Their use of the Dark Power made them formidable, but they were less of a threat without them. One dragon caught a striker and an arm, then bit the Slayer in half, eating its Keeper core. Another was shocked badly and blown apart by a tail-strike. That Keeper floated around for now, its energy temporarily spent. But while those two Slayers were lost, three others concentrated fire on one dragon and annihilated it. It let out a static-filled cry and Daniel fell to one knee for a moment. It hurt alot to lose something attached to his soul.)

Daniel: Oh no, you don't...

(The last dragon charged the trio with all of its power and...wait a second. Three? Weren't there four left? Yes, actually. One had slipped away, taken an astral form, and then rose up from the street rather cleverly. Roy, however, noticed that it was there and saw that it took aim at Sai. He ran in to get in front of her...and the Slayer stopped. It could not kill him. It knew that he was the host-body to the Red Devil, one of its masters. However, as a sort of threat, the three blades of the striker came apart to change into a spinning cutter device that worked like a fan on the end of a staff. Roy remained steadfast, his arms out to prevent the Slayer from getting near Sai. The Slayer would have taken an arm...except that a dragon suddenly bit off its upper-half! Surprised, he saw that Daniel had managed to kill the other three with that all-out charge. He must have put some of his reserves for calling other spirits into it. He was tired...but he'd managed to kill six. He walked back to them, then sat down hard on the ground. He was surprised that nobody had been around to see all of it.)

Daniel: You know, Roy, you're not too bad without your powers.

Roy: You kidding? I was never any good with them. For what it's worth, I'm glad that monster took 'em with him. Did you get them all?

Daniel: Not quite. The bodyless one got away. It'll probably tell 'em I struck again. I'm surprised they haven't been pissed lately. It's like they don't even care...

Roy: They're sadistic freaks. Whadya want?

Daniel: Good point. So, what were you going to say before, Sai?

(When he looked back at Sai, Roy noticed something odd about Daniel, something he'd never seen him do. Daniel usually had a sort of sad smile, like he understood the need for a smile, but had alot of things on his mind. It was put there for the benefit of others, nothing more. But now...he seemed a little more pleasant. Perhaps it was what Sai said before, or what she did. She smiled, and it seemed so natural to her, though she didn't make a regular reaction in terms of emotion most of the time. Truthfully, Daniel hadn't had a genuine smile ever since his mother's death, several years ago, except once. It wasn't while Roy was around, so he never knew. It was when he realized that he had truly saved the soul and heart of his friend, Makoto, from despair. Perhaps it was making a difference that triggered times like these. Perhaps not...)

Sai had watched the battle with an expert eye, watching every movement, how they had worked together, and in all, she had been very surprised. They were definently creatures that worked in packs naturally. And if they didn't, then they were a fluke. A very powerful fluke. The way they moved together, all towards one main goal, in a way it had been depressing, in another it had been exhilerating. She was depressed that they were winning for a moment, but exhilerated from watching them move so well. If only the Fallen could have been like that, Metaron and his army wouldn't have stood a chance. It was only when Roy stood in front of her did her aim go from the main battle to where Roy was focusing on. Then she saw the creature, which looked like it was aiming.... at her. She was curious, not scared. She wanted to know why she had been so much of a threat. Possibly because she could see the rift. Possibly because she was helping Daniel. Or did they know about her as a Watcher, and her other powers? But, it was hesitant in attacking her, most likely from Roy she guessed. And that killed it. After that, she stared at Roy, her heart feeling another unfamiliar leap. It took her a few moments to realize what exactly it was.

'So emotions aren't as bad as they seem. Strange though. Very strange.'

Her head turned towards Daniel as she saw him moving over to her. Her face was back to normal, expresionless, and she looked just as young as she had on the roof. Her hair had the familiar shine, and her eyes had the same, but this time, there was a sparkle in her eyes, showing something much more inside of them. Before, they had seemed cold and penetrating, no matter how much they shone, but now, she was looking at Daniel and Roy, not through them. She had a feeling that this would become a rare thing with her, if at all other than with these two, but she now knew it was possible. Other humans, she didn't know, but these two, they were different. Suffering had made them more than a shallow hollow shell of misplaced emotions. The Dust proved that. And her experiences with them proved that even more. Like her eyes, her voice was expresionless, except it too held a small hint of something more, something that Daniel would probably pick up on.

"That was not a rip, or a door. It looked more like a fold to me. I have never seen anything like it in the 5,000 years I have been a Watcher. Doors and rips are a two dimensional phenomena on a three dimensional surface. Unless you look at it just right, you will never see it. Unless you walk into it correctly, you will walk right through it with no effects at all. But this was three dimensional on a three dimensional plane, much more complex. What it seems that they have done is ripped the space and folded it over so that they can open it whenever they want, and when looked at normally, you can't tell the difference. I am not sure though, I did not have enough time or energy to study it close enough. I wish I had enough energy to look at it from different angles to be sure of my suspicions, though I am almost perfectly sure that it would be the same as what I thought. It all depends on if you can see it in all directions.... It makes sense though, with the distorted sky, at least through my Watcher form. It looked like when a picture has been folded over slightly. I am not sure of what I saw truly means, it is only a guess. More importantly, you probably saw what I saw in the other world the last time it was open, but I will tell you anyway. It was a desert, and there was an overpowering evil feeling to it. As you can tell, it easily drained me of what little strength I had. There was also a tower, a large one, decently close to where the opening was. It was very tall, as well, I could not see the top from where I was. No matter what the case, I do not think I can repair or close this abnormality unless it was fully opened for a long period of time, and even then, my powers at full would be extremely strained. I am not used to dealing with things of this complexity. But there is at least one thing that you have learned, and that is that it is there, and they can open it whenever they want to. I am sure they would have opened it just because of me if they had limited amount of power in that field."

She looked up at the sky again, able to barely see the outlines of what she had seen as a Watcher. It still made her sick to look at it, but in her solid form, she was a bit more stable, but she couldnt' see it as clearly. Whatever this was, it was not made by nature, she knew that by heart. It was no rip that they decided to use to their advantage. It was no door that they had created. This was, as Daniel called it, a portal, a new level of power that she had never experienced before. If Watchers had access to that, there was no guessing what they could accomplish. If Order and Metaron had access to it, there was no limit to what they could do. The very thought made her feel very grateful that this was the first and only time she had ever experienced this. With that, she turned to Daniel, and for the first time, asked him a question directly. She made quite sure that it didn't show that this made her feel pain. Watchers were not supposed to ask questions or feel curiousity, and so a side effect of asking a question that wasn't rhetorical was extreme pain. But, she remained in a monotone, her eyes not giving off a glimpse of pain. She had no idea why she was doing this, only that she should. She also had no idea of why she was pushing herself to have extra contact with this boy, when she could have easily just told her information and waited for his response.

"So, what are you planning to do now that you have this insight? You seem to be gifted at drawing conclusions, so there is no doubt that you have thought of something if any of this information is new. If it isn't, then I hope that the experience at least provided some help to you."

(It was true that they were set aprt from the normal mish-mash of human thought and actions. It was all there in their backgrounds. Daniel was the hero for wanting to change 'fate', having seen horrible outcomes in his life. Roy was the wounded soldier, whose life had been torment ever since the Jinx appeared in him. He would do anything to prevent suffering...after having caused so much. What Sai thought of them right now was most heartening to them, that someone felt they were making a difference, doing something truly useful. Her question to Daniel, however, was...a bit of a power. What WOULD he do? That was always the tough part...)

"So, what are you planning to do now that you have this insight? You seem to be gifted at drawing conclusions, so there is no doubt that you have thought of something if any of this information is new. If it isn't, then I hope that the experience at least provided some help to you."

Daniel: Well...that hole use to be alot bigger, so I'm guessing the building's destruction forced it to seal, for the most part. They're not around here anymore, but they left servants behind. It must have been a trap. Anyone snooping around could get themselves killed. Also...

Roy: What? What is it?

Daniel: This can't be it. It can't be the source of all their strength. they wouldn't leave it like this if it was. It's so small, so exposed. Why wouldn't they protect it better? Why wouldn't they re-open the wound?

Roy: Maybe they can't. Maybe it's sealed up for good, albeit sloppily.

Daniel: No way. If the Red Devil can open portals, then they can do the same, only better. They came here through that thing, or one like it. There have got to be more of those scars.

Roy: How many would they need?

Daniel: You know more about the Brethren. You were one, or part of one. How do they think?

Roy: They're kill-crazy, always thinking of new ways to terrorize the masses. They work with each other, but aren't like us, the way WE work together.

(The way Roy spoke about them pretty much validated them as the cruelest bastards you ever saw, banded as a team, but more like roommates that aggravate each other now and then. They were grossly independent, mad with power, and twisted in all ways... The picture was far from pretty, in this case. The most vile of humans could not compete.)

Daniel: Not the sharing type, huh?

Roy: Don't think so.

Daniel: Then...I guess they'd each want their own connection to their world, their own portal. And if there's that many, then we and everyone else in the world have a serious problem. We have to find them. We- Huh? HOLY SHIT!!

(He chanced to look over at a TV store with several models on display, all of them showing the news. It was a report on happenings at the U.S. Capitol, with a view of the White House in the background. Daniel's eyes had shot wide open all of a sudden as he saw it, a most unbelievable sight... Overlooking the White House was a portal. Only, it wasn't a scar. No... It was a gigantic eye-shaped gap in the world. It was only the vague impression of it, so he couldn't look down that tunnel, but it was there, and he was almost in shock by seeing it.)

Daniel: I think I know where their boss is hiding.

News Report: "Senator Massarino spoke out in the meeting regarding nuclear deterants, stating that these weapons would be futile in the era of meta-humanity, going on to say that disarmament would save the world from its own end..."

"Hmm?"

Sai turned her head to the television as she heard Daniel curse, wondering what exactly had brought it on. What little strength she had had before instantly drained, as did the color in his face. It was yet another portal which she had never seen before. It was definently a portal of some kind..... but of what kind, she had no idea. Taking a few deep breaths, she grabbed her hand with the other steadying it. She looked over at Daniel, and then at Roy. She had reason to be afraid. She had barely survived her encounter with a tiny hole, and this one was enormous. And if it opened up to where she thought...... the very thought made her sick to her stomach. As a Watcher, this was not normal, at all. Watchers weren't supposed to be scared of anything, especially not death. But, she knew she was not scared of death. She would die to help Daniel, she had decided that. She was just terrified of what lay beyond the portal, not what would happen to her. Looking back at Roy and Daniel, she pointed at the television. Her calm demeanor was slightly scratched now, and she looked a bit upset and disheveled.

"Can they not see that..... And if not, what do you plan to do about it? If that is one of their portals that you were talking about, you can't just leave it there. If what I remember about this world is correct, and what Roy and you have told me, then that is a very important place in 'Western society'. And if the others are like that one that took over Roy, you will have problems with influence if one of them takes over a powerful standing human."

Her hand trembled, and she closed her eyes, breathing a few times to calm herself. Tightening her girp slightly, she sighed, realzing for once, she was entirely useless. All she could do was help Daniel and Roy, and even that wasn't doing much. She was used to going out and fixing things herself, slowly but surely, but this was so out of her league that it made her feel useless beyond compare, just extra baggage.

(The fear was as thick as blood between them. Even Sai experienced that same eerie feeling. They were in alot of trouble. The whole world was in for dire trip through hell or worse. Sai's look of actual fear reflected that of Daniel's and Roy's. Neither of them knew of this, but now... It was unbelievable. Daniel himself felt another pang of guilt, but didn't put it to words. It was just that...these portals were clearly a death sentence to Sai, and he had sucked her into his war, the war of humanity versus demonic infiltration The Brethren, or one of them, had taken the position of a fundamental world leader. He was on the senate...)

Daniel: If anyone there can see it, they've probably been taken care of.

Roy: That's Washington DC... If he's there, he'll be controlling them all, which means he already runs America.

Daniel: He who?

Roy: You said it must be their boss, right?

Daniel: You mean that twisted gargoyle?

Roy: I do.

(The fear in his expression grew much deeper. Daniel's mind forcibly returned to the building that now lay in ruins. It was in the final stages of its death, and they were trying to break out of the lobby when...He appeared. He tore through the ceiling like it was paper, landing before them all with a fierce look upon his face. He was an obsidian-black gargoyle, one whose body said power and whose eyes contained nothing less than the origin of sin. Like a devil or an incarnation of evil itself, he stood there blazing with that crimson light, flaxing his claws and closing in for the kill. At the time, Daniel hadn't enough strength to put up a defense. He'd been weaker back then, and he'd been fighting all day.)

Daniel: That man... That beast... Wait a second...

(Daniel blinked now, somewhat confused by something. He looked over at the ruin, reading the remainder of the sign that was at the lobby doors. The name of the place had been MassaCorp. It was owned by a man that Sei Matrix had described as inhuman. He thought about it...and didn't like the answer.)

Daniel: Sai...I think what we have here is good news and bad. The good news is that there isn't a man struggling against a demon spirit that has taken him over. The bad news is because that Massarino is just a name and a face. It's not human. It's him. And you're right, we can't leave him there.

Roy: Well, how do we stop him when he's got a portal like that and power like he does?

Daniel: Other people haveto know about this. They have to find out. We have a small portal here. Someone's gotta be able to see it too. I'll start with the people that were there when the building collapsed. And I know we can stop them. Look what happened to a massive scar on the sky? It's sealed badly, but only because they're still here. It's just gonna take alot of effort.

(As he spoke, though, his mind was on Sai. She had lived much longer than he ever will, and seen so much more than anyone will ever see, yet this was all so new to her. His growing concern was that she would do as she said she would do, no regrets, and possibly die in the process. Daniel, however, despised the idea of death, always had since his mother passed on. But if she was goingto do as she said she was, she at least needed all the help in that she could get. In this short time, he saw that the three of them had become as friends, and he wouldn't want to break up the act. Never...)

Daniel: Tell me, Sai... You came to our school to recuperate, to regain lost power and stuff like that. What would that involve? Alot of rest and relaxation? Contant training? A zen-like meditation? 'Cause one of our steps should definitely be getting you back up to strength.

There was concern in Daniel's voice, which Sai noted. Again, another warm fuzzy feeling inside of her, emotions bubbling up in her human form. It was nice for someone to be concerned for her. But, she knew it was useless to truly feel emotions back for him. It was a fact of her existance. They would die, and she would live for at least a few thousand more years. If she became too attached, she would just end up feeling more and more lonely as her charges died. She reminded herself very quickly that sorrow was just as dangerous to Watchers as wind, and that becoming too attached could end up killing her on the inside.

"I don't really know. I think just living around people who Dust has accumulated around is my best bet. Unfortunately, not until people reach puberty does it happen, so a High School wouldn't be my best bet for recovery time, but for safety. But, I can see Dust around you, even in my limited power, and I am sure there are other people who have it too. It's complicated, but Dust has to do with Fallen Watchers. When they fell, many of them died, billions, leaving a few particles of them behind. These particles entered different worlds and fall from the sky, and are attracted to wisdom and experience. They also sometimes are the source of wisdom, or as the myth goes. In the presence of these particles, I recover much faster. That is why I am glad that I fell in this world, with sentient beings. I would have died in an uninhabited world. So, to recover fully in a short amount of time, I would have to be around people with large accumulations of dust around them. I think that is why it was so easy for you to heal me earlier."

She looked up thoughtfully at this thought, realizing that she too was a fallen watcher, absorbing her power from her comrades. But, they would most likely not mind at all. And then, another thought. There were, in fact, billions who had died under Metaron and Order...... And that was only a small percentage of Watchers. And now it made sense. There were so many worlds out there, so there would be enough Watchers to follow hundreds of people, even thousands, in each world. It quickly added up. And also, the last fact. She would have to be around wise and experienced people, who had been through alot in their life, like Daniel. Which meant that she would end up most likely being attached to more than one person by the end of this. But, it was a pain she was willing to live with. She looked back down at Daniel, nodding.

"Yes. So, when classes start, I will have a chance to mingle around proffesors, and maybe find a few students who have been through things like you. If there are more people like you, it should only take a month or two to fully recover. The hard part of the recovery has spanned the last 500 years, all I need to do now is wait and absorb Dust."

(The whole thing behind the Dust was a new concept to either of the two brothers. Of course, having not heard of the Watchers, how would they ever hear about remnants of the Fallen? Golden Dust accumulating around those who have had great amounts of experience and wisdom... They couldn't see it, maybe nobody else could, but she could. Daniel couldn't imagine what it would be like for her to find a world to live on, but find that it was without intelligent life. To basically starve to death... Yes, he had to agree, it was lucky she came here. Just then, without warning and COMPLETELY out of the blue, Roy laughed. The sight of it was kind of shocking to Daniel. Roy was usually depressed...)

Roy: Funny thing about that, Sai. The way I understand it, high school is when we hit puberty, but most of us go down in intelligence because of all that it stands for.

(It took Daniel a minute, but he got the joke. Usually, as soon as boys and girls hit 13, they started to see each other in a whole new light, that being hormone-driven thought-process. Daniel had to agree. A high school might not have been the proper place. However...)

Daniel: Don't worry about the wisdom and experience part. Aside from professors, I know a few people. In fact, since we need people of experience anyway, we can get them to help us AND help you all in one shot.

Roy: It's the least we can do. You've been fighting a danger that we've never even heard about.

Daniel: We'll help you out, Sai. You never doubted us for a second. Other people I've tried to tell think I'm crazy and that he's a delinquint. Now that we have this thing exposed, it's only a matter of time. Let's get out of here, though. Something else might show up.

OOC: I'm not sure where you'd like to take this next, but I was thinking of having Daniel remember a former-student who was created not from Order, but Chaos, the real-live Chaos. He's an NPC now, location unknown, but he's definitely got similar issues with Sai, except that he's a Chaotic against Chaos. Funny, huh?

Sai almost felt like smiling when she heard what the two boys in front of her were saying. Though they had been through so much, they kept a light heart, and an even lighter soul. These two were definently strange, for any species of intelligent person. Optimists, except not naive. It was almost impossible to find people like these, and when you did, even more impossible to let them go. Like Nair and Co, Watchers she had fought with, Fallen as well. She nodded as well, trying her best to not get attached to these two, yet failing miserably.

"Thank you. I trust you because you are trustworthy. I saw that in you, and then in your brother. And as for fighting a danger you have never even heard of, I say the same for you. Though my battle has been much longer, it is similar to yours in so many ways. We all fight for something we believe is wrong, and needs to become right. We both fight to bring peace to our worlds, even in our own ways. You are doing so much for me, and I just wish to repay the favor. It's strange really. Only now have I missed being human. After I became a Watcher, I never missed it at all, enjoying the wisdom and basking in the power of it all. I totally forgot about the things that made me who I once was. So, for that, I can never thank you enough. I am sorry if I seem cold at times, for it is my nature at best, but I shall try to regain what I once had. That way, it will be easier to bear my presence. And you are right, it is better if we leave now."

With that, she turned and started to walk back to the school, trying her hardest not to look back at them. They would catch up shortly, and she needed time to control herself. She bit her lips, taking a few deep breaths as she walked, then sighed, the tension of the emotions flowing away from her. Her old, emotionless face was once again present, yet the same warm glow in her eyes made it quite visible to anyone who wished to notice that she wasn't totally dead on the inside.

OOC: The next subject is already waiting in the Meadow, as you are quite aware.

IC>>>>>

(And so, they were off, bound together be chance...or maybe by fate. Their lives so similar and yet so different, it was hard to tell who was apart of what line of destiny, or if they were all part of the same line, a keyline in history. Those who can move the so-called fates are those who can perceive it...in ways. Daniel can see the way the world is holistically formed. The Brethen can see the world this way as well. Did others? It was hard to tell, but they would find out... The two brother began to keep up after Sai. In the darkness of the demon's blight, they were united, and nothing would change that.)
