Shiny black shoes left a rather disgusting mark on this linoleum floor the tip of the well polished footwear tapping a pile of Polaroid pictures that had been taken not just of the body but of the entire house. It was obvious from the cold fear that trickled down the uniform polices’ backs that there was a murder here; no it was worse then a simple murder, what had happened here was a butchery. There were five victims, at least that’s what the report assumed, five mutilated corpses in the house had been found a family with two children, two adult females (one believed to be either a nanny or a mistress their relationship had not been figured out still) and one male, a business man who worked downtown at some no where climbing pencil pushing job one of those things where you would wonder what was in it for anyone that killed him. Just the bodies weren’t bad enough it had taken hours to match up the blood stains to wounds the blood types to bodies and they still couldn’t fully explain what had gone on.

It was the official belief that the intruder had come through the fire escape using a simple suction cup and a glass cutter to open through the window, as luck would have it the intruder had licked it himself giving them a type O negative for blood the only place in the entire house where they had found any evidence about the intruder. The rest of this seemed thought through enough, the man wore gloves to hide his (the police assumed male from the state they had found the lady of the house) fingerprints and slippers to avoid leaving shoe prints but had licked the suction cup. Why would he have been so careless? Perhaps it meant nothing to him? Like those leukemia patients that have bone marrow transplants so their blood and saliva are different types, however that was unlikely it was being checked on and everyone who had received a marrow transplant in the surrounding cities in the last 10 years was getting looked up, even then the list was pretty short.

So he had cut out a piece of the window, purposely the top bit, either he was very tall or wanted us to think that he was, it seemed he had fumbled a little knocking a flower pot onto its side as he went for the lock on the other side of the window suggesting he was a stranger or just unlucky. The window was then lifted and he had entered the house the first and easily the oldest blood stain from the attack was in the kitchen with one of the women, a smack across the face with a kitchen utensil, what looked like a waffle iron. It had knocked a few of the first woman’s teeth out and he had continued on. The Mr. and Mrs. In the house were in bed at the time, the clothes thrown in the general area and not neatly folded suggested some marital entertainment but it was over before he came in, with some kind of simple blade he slashed at the man of the house’s throat the blood trickling down the outside of the shirt showed that it was on when it was cut, then what? The Mrs. Wasn’t next to die instead he had walked out of the room, seemingly as slow as he could into the next room where the children were, their bodies were found in the hallway but blood stains across the wooden and carpeted floor suggested most of the blows were in there. The man didn’t seem to give up there, the blood squirts across the hall meant he was still walking and his heart was pumping as he tried to stop the assailant? Or maybe save the children, to-may-to to-mah-to.

Then he had dragged the bodies back the smearing on the wall meaning it was done quickly and by hand, he didn’t bother to lift them onto himself for either two reasons, one he didn’t want to get blood stains on him or he just couldn’t carry them. There were cuts and gashes on the entire group made post mortem, even worse their eyes were found open glaring, whether they had died that way or not they were found open and the lady of the house was found in bed, now why would she have stayed there the entire time when she saw her husband get cut and her children killed? There were a few pressure marks across her arms, legs and chest, they were obviously heavy and tore at the gown she wore to sleep, what was most surprising is her cause of death, her liver and kidneys had been removed a few blots of blood across the sheets said they were moved somewhere, they were removed crudely and torn probably done by hand then the mutilation of her began and the list of missing parts sky rocketed.

Detective Bill Graham went half way through the list of the mutilations before he had to slam the folder closed and rush his way into the bathroom where his lunch, breakfast and his dinner from the previous night presented themselves in the toilet before he flushed it away, of course he had never really had carrots. Something about this case gave him the chills, he had seen some brutal homicides before like that poor priest who was found gutted, drained of blood and headless but this, this was horrible. He sat in the man’s old red leather chair finding one of the arms sticky with some blue coating, when he lifted his hand back to his nose it carried with it the distinct scent of candy, definitely a fact made by the children that lived in the house.

He had come back for seconds but had found a new course, the knife flicked out and passed across Graham’s neck the man falling to the floor his hand dropping the folder using both his hands to press against the wound trying in vain to stop the bleeding, above him someone stood, a lanky man clad in simple clothing like you would find on the street, in one hand of his a bloody knife in the other what looked like a tin foil swan, the kind you got at fancy restaurants when they packed up your leftovers, if Graham had looked inside he would have seen the red stain, smelled that grotesque hint of death, survived long enough to know that most of him including his favorite part of himself was going into that tin foil swan.

That’s how this little folder in the police precinct began to grow, half explained murders all with missing parts and flesh mutilated badly enough they couldn’t even figure out what was missing and what was just torn apart. Soon even the coroners were feeling disgusted with their work and then, only then did a break in the case come, because an off duty cop just wouldn’t let go of his gun.

One would say this was a very fine night, very theatrical, the sky black and cloudless opening up to the souls that had departed from this world, a perfectly round shining moon above raining down light and a cold wind. Officer Ron wore a long gray coat that night but the way it was found you would swear it had always been black with the grime, mud, dirt and rat crap that filled some of the least used streets, his gun was found an old webbly revolver the kind they hadn’t made since the 50’s or 60’s, you know 45 caliber with 8 chambers, a real old famous gun, so famous and distinct it was no wonder why any killer wouldn’t take it and use it as their own murder weapon. The webbly was found in the dirt, some ditch near the back of a cheap brand dumpster a number of the rounds found imbedded in brick a few of which carried shards of bone and cloth but no blood, there was no trace of blood other then the officer’s own.

Ron’s body was found looking like someone had taken dental floss through him, huge giant strips back and forth through his body were torn to ribbons, holes you could fit your arm through and hit yourself in the face with, at first no one thought this murder was connected after all there were no parts missing but the killer had done something odd, he had licked the officer’s neck, from fluid samples they had matched the blood with the O negative found earlier, it was a long shot but it had happened, to kill an officer right then and there meant they were somehow getting close, getting close following dead leads, at least they thought it was. Three days later they got the call of a body at the dump missing half its torso; it was picked up across the street from where the officer was found dead.

It took a while but the police were ready to give up until the death in Domino town, a human visitor no special powers whatsoever but it was how he was killed that brought a nickname out of the tabloids, the man’s limbs had been gnawed on giving the police a decent cast of a mouth, the killer’s mouth, the body was found missing many internal organs like the rest but the liver had been found half eaten only a few feet away. It wasn’t long before the tabloid’s name leaked into the police office, soon even the highest officer on the case was calling him a kanamite, that tall alien race from the twighlight zone that ate humans, that’s all the history behind that.

Three days later it was the front page all across the country ‘kanamite strikes again’ ‘to serve humans! In Tokyo!’ people could have framed these things but the killer didn’t, he was one of those that didn’t go with the flow and save clippings of himself he just kept moving through the streets bringing death and pain to those he met, eventually the police admitted to the press that they were having trouble and when suggested they get help one name popped into their mind. He was obviously supernatural, strong and either had some kind of uber weapon or was a freak of nature meta either way the police knew they couldn’t handle it so called the one name famous for dealing with this kind of thing, the one person they thought could handle anything, unfortunately they got an answering machine.

“Hey I’m Eeth Hellsing but I’m out of the house at the moment leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.”

The police should have stopped there, common sense should have said ‘we cant do this’ but they pressed on and found the next name in the phonebook to help, Seran Hellsing.
