Daniel stepped out onto the roof with a bag filled with snacks in hand. The wind swepted his brown hair as he looked at the painted sky reveling in the beauty, which was always present at sunset. However, this sunset one of the most gorgeous sunsets he'd ever seen. Well, sure it wasn't anything next to a sunset on the Florida Keys, but he'd never viewed a sunset as picturesque as that one. This sunset was a close second.

The reds and oranges mingled in the sky ushering away the sun for the night, and heralding the coming darkness. Daniel, moved by the beauty of the scene, sighed and wished that he had the talent to even imitate the hues that lie before him. Watching sunsets was a pasttime in his family. The warmth of the summer day voicing one last gasp, before beginnng to ebb from the environment once more.

Standing with all his attention on the unfolding events in nature, he sighs and starts to sit on the roof unloading his bag on a small handkerchief he fished out of his pocket.

About twenty feet away behind a large shelf in the roof where two girls, on with bright, short purple hair that wisped softly along her face, the other a taller, darker girl, with black hair and chestnut eyes that glittered in the light from the sun. They sat together, both glad to have found a friend they could really connet with, especially the black-haired girl, who had just left her best friend (her twin) back home for a solid week before she could come to this school too.

The girl with naturally purple hair had her legs streched out in her sitting position, an arm around her frail friend who was leaning into her shoulder. It had been a long day; lot's of swimming, hiking, climbing, eating, and talking had ensued. As a perfect end to the day, the two girls had headed up to the roof about an hour ago in order to ctach the remaining soft breezes left in the summer day. Actually, Tori with her bright hair and matching eyes, was getting a little sleepy, and had a much longer walk to her house dorm than her new friend.

She peeled her arm away from over Tsu's shoulders and stood up. "I'm gonna head back to my dorm. You staying here?" Tori asked calmly, watching out of the corner of her eye the sunset, even if she was mainly focusing on Tsu.

"What? Oh, yeah, I'll be here. Are we sitll gong into town for Lunch tommarow?" Tsu asked back.

"Of course. I'll meet you by the lockers at noon." She turned adn started walking off. After about twenty feet, she turned and waved. "Bye Tsu!" then disapeared down a ladder that led to the side of the lake.

Tsu sat, staring into space. The silence of roof was ever-relaxing, and though you oftenf found couples making it up here or psuedo-romantics who came up here looking for a partner, it was quiet adn empty tonight.

Except...

She could feel soemone else here. Before, it had seemed like it was just her and Tori, but now she could feel the other presence. She stood and looked out over the roof, gazing into corners and wondering if the person could be behind a rafter. "Hello? Is anyone there?" Of course, an awkward way to start a conversation, but her heart was beating a little fast and Tsu knew the only way to calm it was to have the other person identify themself.

Daniel opened his half-closed eyes as he heard a voice coming from somewhere. He'd thought he was the only one admiring the sunset, but that didn't seem to be the case now. He turned his torso toward the voice surprised that he hadn't heard someone on the seemingly desolate roof. His dark green eyes dart around the roof looking for where the sound might've orginated from. 'Funny didn't hear anyone when I came up or when I started viewing the sunset.'

"Just admiring the view. If you wish you can come sit with me." he stated frankly not wanting to annoy the new person with endless bantering, but at the same time leaving an invitation to the other. Readying a smile for the newcomer, he figured that as long as he was up here he might as well have someone to talk to.

Her light red lips were in a curved smile as the boy called back to her. It was nice to know that someone around here seemed relativly good-natured, or at least inviting. Only earlier that day a strange girl had rejected the question of if Tsu could sit with her and then laughed with her friends about it. Friendly people were always welcomed.

"Sure!"

She approached him, and sat curled up with her knees pulled tight to her chest, her arms wrapped firmly around them. About a foot and a half from him, she sat little more forward but was shifted so her body faced towards him.

"I'm Tsu. Who're you?"

It was good to be blunt in the beginning of a conversation. Learn their name, ask some questions. Easiest way to get to know someone, and it was good to know simple tricks about talking to people, especially for someone who can be as shy as anything. Asking quesitons wa sthe easiest way to meet someone.

"Daniel Walters. It's very nice to meet you Tsu." He nods, bowing his head slightly in greeting to the girl. Looking over and seeing her sit so close was uncommon in his mind, but he wasn't displeased that he was so close. "So, what brings you out today Tsu, the weather, the sunset..." Then he motions with a upturned hand all around him. "...or is it merely the peace that one can find here."

He finds up a biscuit and napkin he'd stowed away in the bag, and places them in front of Tsu. Not knowing if Tsu had ever eaten anything from the southeastern US, he figured he must endeavor to explain. "Would you like to some of this. I have some jelly and some butter if you want to put those on it."

Daniel's eyes trail off to the sunset again as he is doing this, bookmarking in his mind to watch the sunsets here when he got the chance.

"Maybe both... This view is amazing, and it's been pretty nice all day. I actually don't know," she said with a smile, and nestled further into her sitting position for more comfort.

It was a very pretty view; somehow being above evrything and being able to look over the land and lake and forest was very relaxing, someone how it gave the silence of the roof a peaceful feeling, where one could be content with quietness and pretty landscapes, instead of needing all the luxuries normal kids had today, like video games and TV. Maybe that's why the roof could be popular; most of the kids at AHS weren't normal, maybe many of them wanted to be outside admiring rather than inside blowing up cars and buildings.

"Would you like to some of this. I have some jelly and some butter if you want to put those on it."

Tsu looked quickly from the biscuit to Daniel, and gave him a big smile. "Mmm. Sure. Do you want to split it?" she asked, not sure if he had anymore and was offering it to her out of sheer politness.

"No, this one is for you if you want it. I've got a good number of 'em left." he spoke good naturedly with a warm hospitable tone. He always been taught by his parents and his experiences that being warm, kind, caring was of the utmost importance when meeting new people just as it is when greeting a long lost friend. Daniel took these lessons to heart as he grew older and had even seen fruit in them, so it seemed natural for him to be as polite as possible.

Daniel hand the present biscuit to Tsu and dove his hand back in the bag for another one. He found a another biscuit in the bag along with some blackberry jelly his mother had sent from home.

"So Tsu where are you from?" he asks absently while cutting open the biscuit and spreading the jelly on the inside.
