Asano had somehow managed to bury himself in the library. Not bury in the literal sense in which he was entirely underground, but bury in another sense: he was buried beneath a large pile of books. All-told, he had encapsulated himself in nearly 150 books, each of them about as helpful as the last: not at all. The computers in the lab were helpful only to a degree, but after he exhausted their usefulness, he turned to an older computer: the library "online catalog". Hooked right up to this computer, thankfully, was a Dot-Matrix printer. A simple entry into the database had produced a list that stretched on for multiple pages and a simpe button push caused the ancient printer to spring to life, spewing the paper out with the search results newly-impacted onto the surface. Each result had taken up a few lines on the paper and had the full title of each book, its author(s), its number of pages, pretty much a full Work's Cited entry for each book. Asano had immediately gotten to work after recieving this compendium of information and here he was now, buried behind god only knows how many books that even slightly mention the subject matter for which he was searching. Oddly enough, despite the age of the computer on which the database sat, it was fairly up-to-date, which led Asano to believe that he was dealing with a "dumb terminal" rather than an actual managed database. First and foremost, he tossed aside any fantasy work in which his subject matter was covered: they wouldn't help him in the least. The scary thing, to him, was that there was still a good pile of books even after discarding the novels, poetry and plays in which the matter was mentioned. Even scarier is that only a few of the remaining books were Encyclopedias! The remainder of the books were classified as nonfiction and more than a few were on Demonology. Asano decided that those books would be reserved for last, mostly because he hoped that he wouldn't have to deal with them at all. But even with reference materials being saved for later, the pile of books he was investigating was nothing to sneeze at (though the amount of dust kicked up by opening certain books in the pile caused this effect anyway). Tossing another book into the bin reserved for rejects, Asano pulls down another book, this one looking like it had taken a dust bath. Carefully it was opened and he began to flip through the pages, finding nothing he was looking for. However, this book was still of use! The subject matter for which he was searching was given a brief highlight in the "mythology" section, but it had a cross-reference to another book. Using his arm as a bookmark, Asano opened to the Bibliography and flipped several dozen pages until he found exactly what he was looking for: the matching cross-reference! It was referencing a book entitled "The Collective Lore of Lord Ashimar". Frantically, Asano began to search through all of his books, hoping that he had that particular tome of knowledge. |

Another person also delved through various books. He looked through mythological books, trying to find subjects on the Gods of yore. "There he is," Cyan rumbled quietly. "Morgion himself." His finger rested on the page, making a mentle not of it, before he looked up. "Well, hello," he said, coming up behind the guy. "What''re you looking for, perhaps I can help?" |

Asano was pretty oblivious to being approached by another individual. In fact, up until the voice spoke out of nowhere, he was tossing and throwing books into the bin, in a frantic search. More than a few times he missed and a book went sailing backwards, past the approaching figure. Most landed so that the contents were, by some design, obscured. Though a few books landed open and the various pages were displayed, and more than a few were bent in odd ways. One book's displayed pages had a rather graphic picture of a pack of ungodly large boars ripping a man to pieces. Another had reptilian-looking birds in a nest pecking the bones of an unidentified creature clean. The voice caused him to toss the relatively thick book he was holding (The New Medical Dictionary of Magical Ailments) at a weird angle and knock over a magazine rack. He turned around and grinned rather sheepishly at the source of the voice. "Hello, I'm trying to find a copy of The Collective Lore of Lord Ashimar. Do you know where I can find one?" |

It was Irvines first visit to a library other than his own one back home, it was packed with some very new books, and even computers, though he had never actually seen one before he knew what one was. It was here that he decided to look for a book that may help him with his 'problem' when his eyes fell upon what seemed like an over eager student at work. It wasn't his custom to barge into other peoples conversations but he could never just sit and watch someone throw books around like he was, it was then he actually heard what the boy had said "I'm trying to find a copy of The Collective Lore of Lord Ashimar. Do you know where I can find one?" "I have come across that book before, but I'm not sure if you'll find it here" Irvine called to the two standing barely a bookcases distance away. Indeed he had come across the book, for years he had done nothing but read, and a copy of the book was in the library he had back home, but it was possible that it was in the pile of books he had brought with him, yes! it was one of the first books he had taken, for some late night reading... |
