Cool weather had finally set on AHS and people were noticibly grumpier now. Asano, however, had no such grumpiness about him. In fact, he was out in the meadow this fine, if not rather chilly fall afternoon. Currently, he was crouched over a patch of grass and, rather amazingly, he had his signature rubber gloves off his hands. The gloves were laying less than a foot away on top of some short grass. Otherwise, the only other odd thing about the scene was that he was simply squeezing groups of grass blades and seeing if it had any effect. So far, the bunches that he had already tried had no effect other than leaving them coated in a rather weird-looking chemical and being bunched up.

The cool weather didn't affect Asano as much because of his wardrobe choice. He was currently wearing a pair of blue jeans that fit him rather perfectly, a blue t-shirt with the greek letter Pi (made up of the first several hundred digits of Pi as well) a green jacket, black (rather cheap) sandals and gray (for warmth) hiking socks. It didn't look the best, but he was warm and wasn't complaining. Of course, he never did look the best in almost any situation, but that was because he always wore socks paired with his sandals. Though that wasn't important.

What was important was that Asano was conducting (in his own special way) a type of research. And he had actually been conducting this research for several days now on varying species of flora on different parts of the campus. So far, he was running zero for zero, with no results being turned up at all. Rather than discourage him, though, it seemed to satisfy him with the results. See, he was a good researcher in that negative results didn't turn him off. Instead, results that came back negative led him to ask several different questions, like 'What could I have done differently?' or 'Is this particular speices of plant immune to neurotoxins?'

To tell the truth, he had actually given up for today. There were no positive results so far, so Asano had come to figure out that his ability only worked on animals, because plants had exhibited no signs of being effected by external testing. Though this, of course, would lead to another series of tests, with these being tested by injecting the toxin into the plants in different places and comparing results. He was sure that if the plants ingested the toxin like animals (and, though he was ashamed to admit it, himself) that it would work as well. That would make him one step closer to learning the extents of his ability. And once he had learned the far extents of what he could do, then he would be able to begin mastery. It went without saying that Asano firmly believed that someone must fully understand something before the process of improvement can begin.

But, like was said, he had given up for today. Right now, he was simply playing around with the stalks of grass, seeing what he could do to have fun. Though, currently, very few ideas were coming to mind other than create a rope out of the stalks of grass, which could be fun, but boring.

Ah yes. Cool weather had taken no effect on the alien Zlex. Her blood, afterall, was warmer than many other races. To add on to the effect of complete warmth that she felt, her hair was long and thick and covered the front of her body all the way down to her mid-thighs. Yes, warm in every sense of the word. She needed nothing else to help her really. Therefore, she wore a white tanktop with a long thin white skirt. White, of course, by tradition. Until now, she hadn't ventured into the meadows for anything. For this reason and this reason alone was she here now. Why stay in an area when you haven't seen it all? Besides, the wonders of Earth had not ceased to amuse her just yet. She was still amazed by the color of the sky and the grass; the kindness of the people and the manners that they exposed.

Today wasn't one of those days where Zlex had made a plan of things she would do to keep herself occupied. Because of this, she was sort of....wandering, giving herself any random purpose for being anywhere at all. Besides, it wouldn't be too horrible to go out and meet new people. For the past few days, she had been in a state of self-containment mentally. Her usually optimistic atmosphere had been dampened by the harsh shards of mental imagery of her terrible sister.

And the turn of moods had lightened her spirit and caused for celebration!...yet, she hardly knew anyone....So much for the celebration. Oh well, she'd celebrate by herself later on. Yes, that's what she'd do. She didn't need a whole lot of people to help her feel better about the situation. The situation itself was great enough.

Now, in the new surroundings of the meadows, she clung tighter to her bow which hung behind her back in its respectful place; the legendary arrows beside it. She had spotted Asano with ease and watched him in her halted position. Oh, he was playing with grass. It reminded her of herself a week ago; trying to gain the childhood that she never had. Zlex cautiously, because it was never known what race lied behind a human-like face, approached him from behind.

"Hello there." She let her melodic voice murmur through the air. "What are you doing, If I may be so bold to ask..."

Asano was quite oblivious to the presence of someone else in the meadow with him. His attention was so focused on attempt at grass-craft #284 (grass oragami) that a voice in the vicinity made him misfold the piece of grass. Half a second later, the realization that the voice was directed at him made the snake he was in the process of creating fall to the ground. He stared at the ground for a short moment before he got his rubber gloves and put them back on his hands. He had decided that talking to someone was always more interesting than pathetic attempts at trying to fold a piece of grass less than an inch across into something meaningful.

Carefully, Asano rose to his feet and turned to look at who had addressed him. He saw that it was, indeed, a female that had spoken to him and he gave her a friendly smile. "Hi. I was just playing around with the grass. I was conducting a few experiments with the grass earlier, but nothing came of it." With his failed experiments and oragami projects temporarily forgotten, he walked closer to the girl with the long hair. Still sporting the friendly smile, he extended a gloved hand towards the girl. "My name's Asano."

Inwardly, Asano hoped that she didn't wonder why he had put his gloves back on before he even seemed to acknowledge her presence. The chemicals that constantly coated his hands were too dangerous to living beings for him to chance accidental contact with anybody. But that's why the gloves existed: to prevent people from coming into contact with that which would otherwise cause too many questions.

Playing with grass eh? She thought little of it at the moment. Besides, she had played with grass too. Why say anything about that? Zlex glanced at his outstretched hand and cautiously shook it with her own. These type of human traditions always came slow to her. She had just learned the manners of people here and quite frankly, she was still trying to get the gist of most of them.

"And my name is Zlex, a fellow grass player myself." She conducted a slight bow. Bowing wasn't much of anything Zlex was used to doing and why she did it now was beyond her. She was always the type of person who did what she thought when she thought it. A meek smile formed upon her lips; another thing that Madame had taught her to perform around people. Yet, that lesson already came easy to Zlex; she built herself that way. "What kind of experiments were you conducting?" She had to ask due to her curiousity. The one thing that most of her kind didn't generate was curiousity, and truthfully, she didn't even know that it was called curiousity.

To be honest, the first thought that crossed her mind upon seeing him put on his gloves was 'oh, another person with gloves. How interesting,' and that was that. She had plenty other friends who wore gloves for different reasons. The most extraordinary one, though, was a girl who wore gloves to connect to the wires in her arms. Yet this power was still not fully manifest to Zlex.

Therefore, seeing another person with their gloves constantly on was no big deal for her. It was almost like people asking her about the vortex...that stupid tattoo. Luckily, only few had ever seen the vortex imprinted into her skin. She didn't want to explain it any further to anyone anyway. The vortex was nothing but a bad curse to single her out from the rest; almost like a barcode...the mark of the CIACP.

Again, though, these thoughts were shunned out of the current moment. It was inappropriate for the occasion. Besides, this was an important day...the day she was set free from her fears. Today, no such thoughts would penetrate far; she was going to celebrate later...yeah....celebrate and relax...

Asano looked down as she cautiously shook his hand and frowned briefly. At first it seemed as though she were concerned by his use of rubber gloves, but he didn't let that get in the way of his mood. Besides, it seemed that she made a joke afterwards, so he dismissed the thought entirely. In fact, the mentioning of being a "fellow grass player" brought the smile back to his face, and it came back wider, bordering on grin. The one thing that she did which entirely threw him off was the bow. It made all emotion, save one, jump from his face. The emotion that remained? Raw surprise.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Zlex. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who still shares in this hobby." The smile that she displayed after the bow made Asano give a return smile of his own, as well. "Oh, I was just seeing how certain, natural chemicals affect grass when applied to their exterior in various places and in varying amounts." If it wasn't before, it should have been obvious now that Asano knew big words and used them quite a bit. He actually didn't think too much of using them, but something made him pause briefly and awkwardly stare at the ground.

"Err... excuse me, I sometimes do that. When I get to talking about something that excites me, I start using my expanded vocabulary." He stared at the ground awkwardly for a moment more, concentrating on the grass between his sandals before he looked back up at Zlex and shrugged. "So, what brings you out to the meadow on a day with such... autumnlike temperatures?" Of course, the question was barring the fact that it was autumn and that it would, quite soon, get a lot cooler than the day was. But that would signify winter and that was still, no matter how 'close' it was, nearly two months off. At least it wasn't snowing! Of that much, Asano could be thankful. Because then he would have to worry about his socks getting wet.

Yes, he was extremely thankful for the rather... chilly way the weather had turned. Now he could at least wear his preferred combo of footwear without drawing too many odd stares from people. Because in autumn, he could wear that and people would simply assume that he was still trying to hold onto summer as long as possible. The same for spring, but in reverse: trying to anticipate summer. In winter and summer, people stared at him oddly because, let's face it, it's either too cold or too hot to wear sandals or socks with them. That was why autumn happened to be Asano's favorite season, and he showed it quite well by being noticably more cheerful during that season.

Zlex gave a little laugh. He used big vocabulary too. It was something that she did herself the first year in training with Madame. Now, to fit in with the people of earth, she used only words she was sure everyone knew...besides, she didn't want to be misunderstood. It was nice to find another person who had quite a skill as to know advanced words and how to use them. Usually, people would know how to do one or the other. For this reason, she had lots of respect for Asano. Perhaps it wasn't just this one fact that gave Asano her respect. Perhaps showing respect towards everyone was second nature to her.

"Don't worry about the words you're using. I find them most refreshing myself." In fact, it made her long for the days when she used to use them too. "When I get excited about something, I tend to become a little too hyper and talkative for my own good." She mentioned as a way to diminish some of his inhibitions.

She had become quite surprised herself when Asano had mentioned the autumnlike temperatures. This was autumn? Oh yes...she remembered now. She used to attend this school before...during the autumn...before she left. The autumns here was a lot different than what she was used to. She liked the winter better. The winter, when the temperature was actually cool to her. Autumn was nothing. Before she came to earth, autumns had snow in them and winter had ice. She understood, however, that Earth was different. Their sun was bigger and stayed in the sky longer creating the warm weather that bathed the inhabitants of its surface.

"I don't know, to be honest." She replied after some thought. There really wasn't an answer to this. She felt like an adventure...this was the only place she hadn't torn upside down yet.

"I suppose the scenery attracted me. Nature is very interesting to me here." This could have been quite possible. Scenery had always been the bait for Zlex. Water was the main hook, but green plains sufficed for its own purpose also.

"And why are you here? Is it simply to convey your experiments?" She had doubted this reasoning. Experiments, when for good causes, took time and effort. Something else had to be the reason for him coming out here. And if it truly was for the experiments, Zlex's curiousity would once again soar like the disease that it was and she'd be all but powerless to its hold. To put such effort in experiments meant that there was something that needed to be accomplished and it only needed a path to be troddened to control it...

((Apologies for the wait, been a mite hectic on my end))

Asano seemed to relax as Zlex laughed in response. He understood the meaning and implications of that laugh, as a sort of unspoken message between them: she understood. That immediately blew away what remained of his inhibitions towards acting like himself around her. Not that he wasn't already, but at least he wouldn't have to hide anything should any situation requiring hiding something arise. At the very least, he was happy.

"That makes me feel quite a bit better, it pains me to have to dumb down my language just so those around me can understand that which I am saying." Her admission made Asano give a small laugh, as well. It was a good thing to hear that he wasn't the only one who lost control of his mouth when he got excited. When she began to explain why she came to the meadow he quieted up and listened intently. Mostly because he was extremely interested.

The reason given for her arrival at the meadow made quite a bit of sense to Asano. After all, the autumn scenery was quite beautiful during the daylight hours. Though honestly, it was quite beautiful in any kind of illumination, though it tended to take on a creepy effect at night once all of the grass died. It reminded him way too much of Jeepers Creepers 2 in the cornfield.

"Initially, yes my experiments had brought me here. It was curiosity over what the chemicals my body produces are capable of. Ah... maybe I ought to explain precisely that of which I am speaking." Asano drew himself back to his full height and cleared his throat in preparation to speak. But instead of speaking, he pulled his gloves off, rather carefully. He did so in such a way as to avoid getting any 'sweat' on their palms.

Asano held his hands out for her to inspect. Upon looking closely at them, it would seem that his entire hand was coated in sweat, because it was glistening. "Please, look if you like, but avoid touching the chemicals." He carefully exhaled and wet his lips. "My body eliminates wastes through my hands. I'm not entirely sure of the process involved, but the chemical produced as a waste product is a rather potent neurotoxin." He paused briefly.

"At first, I was, indeed, here for experiments. But that was several days ago. At this current instance of being here, I just came for the sheer fun of it, really."

(Now it is necessary for me to hand you my own apology. Blame the projects that have burdened me...)

Zlex tilted her head slightly as her bright violet eyes scrutinized every movement that Asano made. Indeed, the way he removed his gloves with such care interested her even further. It hadn't struck any significance to her until she saw his hands; they looked as if they were moist. To this, she quirked her eyebrow and waited for a just explanation to sooth her curiousity.

She was told not to touch his hands; she was only allowed to look. As he explained to her this process of excretion through his hands, she studied his face. Ah, the mysteries of the world and all of the different types of people on it. Never would nature repeat the same person twice. Same went with powers as well and she was sure that this had been the first time hearing anything like this.

She smiled lightly. Perfect; she learned more and more as the days went by. Hopefully, she wouldn't be as ignorant as some of her own race had been. She only wished she could return and tell everyone of the magic that others possessed. In fact, this reminded her of the properties in her blood; so different and poisonous. Yet, poisonous blood was easier contained than the way his body rid wastes.

Fun? Strangely, it surprised Zlex that he would be out here for that reason. Most people had a more important destiny than for just fun. To this, she laughed a little. It wasn't in a mocking way; only in a light-hearted, proven-wrong kind of way. It was just weird to know that not everyone here was as serious as she had been told they were.

"You don't ever feel bad about being....different. Do you?" She had paused in between her statement to search for a word that would be good enough for her to use. This may not sound as difficult as she made it, yet she didn't want to offend anyone again for saying something they didn't like.
