It was early evening, the sun getting low enough in the sky to begin tinting it purple and orange, but not so low that it could be said to be setting. A light breeze was playing across the rooftops, picking up fallen leaves and occaisional pieces of trash that had been left on the roof.
Lupis stood at the edge, his feet planted beneath the railing that ran around the roof's edge. The breeze tugging lightly on his jacket and pony-tail. He breathed the crisp air deeply, letting his mind blissfully drift. He closed his eyes, just letting the quiet, and the rays of the sun, wash over him.

The door opens and Vintrict walks through, his own hair picking up the calm breeze as he walks forward and peers over the campus of AHS. He had gained a liking to its beauty and never once thought of trading it for another. His eye catches a boy not too far from him sitting on the rail, but he stares back forward, his white long coat becoming caught in the breeze, too, revealing his sheathed sowrd at his waist.

Ah, what a perfectly droll day it was. James had made a bit of a hobby sitting up here, just watching these people all day. Their attempts at drama gave him a warm feeling of amusement inside. And with today's perfect weather conditions (sunny with a slight breeze, allowing for long cloaks and trenchcoats to billow out), he could see things at the height of camp.

He was actually dressed for the occasion. He wore a greyish-blue hoody with some khakis, perfectly suited for sitting around and doing nothing on top of a school. He watched with some interest as this guy stood on the edge of the building, his eyes closed. Idly, he thought of how easy it would be to just push the guy over the edge, but decided disgression was the better part of valor and held off. Then this trenchcoat guy (what was it with everyone and trenchcoats?) came up.

James decided to busy himself with some spare gravel. His aim aiding him, he idly began to send rocks ricocheting about the rooftop...

((OOC: Lupis isn't wearing a trenchcoat. He has on a normal denim jacket.))
Lupis blinked as heard the clicking of pebbles richocheting around the roof. As he turned his head to see what the noise was, one of the pieces of gravel flicked past his head.
He sighed slightly as he turned back to the view of the campus. As long as nothing actually hit him, he wouldn't have a problem...

((my char is the one wearing the long coat. And why do I see fight in our future?))

Vin heard the scraping of pebbles and saw a boy kicking them across the gravel rooftop. He could see these were probably here to blow off some steam of some sort. Or maybe just to enjoy the view like he was doing at the moment. He smirks and looks back forward. He looks down and sees a rock planted by his feet. He picks it up and begins tossing it in the palm of his hand.

OOC: My character is throwing stones, actually.

IC: As Vintrict began tossing the stone up and down to himself, something odd happened. As he might have been expecting the stone to hit his palm, absolutely nothing came down. James had flicked a pebble towards Vintrict, shooting Vin's own pebble away in midair, perfectly. There was a soft clatter as the two hit the ground some distance away.

Wow, he seemed to have rather good aim, didn't he?

Well, that was rather fulfilling, James thought to himself. Another perfect shot, as usual. The way he'd just shot it right out of the air...ah, the joys of perfect aim. In reality, he had no idea why he was antagonizing people like this. He'd never really thought he'd miss it, but he was starting to miss the thrill of his old job, as a contract killer. True, he'd left the profession out of boredom, but boredom was always fleeting. And while today James didn't feel quite like killing, he definitely felt some destruction was in order.

"Nice sword you've got there," he said, speaking perfect Japanese. "Can you use it, or are you just like the ones that come here without any idea of what they're doing?"

He was completely ignoring Lupis now, seeing him as less easily provoked...

((I know Vintrict has a trenchcoat, but I read it like he was saying they both did. Guess I misread.
And you sense a fight because that's what 1 in 3 threads on this board become. :P ))
"Nice sword you've got there. Can you use it, or are you just like the ones that come here without any idea of what they're doing?"
Lupis wasn't fluent in Japanese, but he knew enough to get the gist of what the rock-thrower had said.
"I dunno," he said in English, turning around. "I've found that most people here have a pretty good idea of how to use their weapons, and I doubt that this guy is an exception."
He paused before adding "I suppose a better question would be whether you can do anything besides tossing rocks."
It came out a bit more inflammatory than Lupis intended, but frankly the other student was coming off as a bit of a braggart. To Lupis, people with big egos had huge targets painted all over them saying 'please puncture'. Whether James would have the skills to back up his perceived ego remained to be seen.

OOC: Oh, but fights are oh so much fun...especially above the ground >_>

IC: Oh, good. So they did buy the huge ego bit. James grinned at this, hoping to play it up. Get them annoyed, make them dislike you. Makes them want to hold back less, which would make it more fun when the rumbling started. He had practically perfected this to an art.

"Throwing things is what I do best," James said with a (slightly exaggeratedly arrogant) shrug. "A lot more than rocks, for that matter." He made a strange grabbing motion, and seemed to grab a card out of midair. The Jack of Diamonds. He grinned more widely. The sleight of hand stuff always made for good theatrics.

"Y'see, a lot of people at this school are good. But me? I'm magic." And then, he threw the card. A perfect throw, as always. It embedded itself into a railing almost as thin as the card itself. Thin cardboard, through solid metal, almost as skinny as a the card.

You see, there was a reason James' nickname in the assassin world had been "Sureshot".

"And for my next trick..."

Lupis felt a slight pain begin at the back of his head as James started in with the sleight of hand. He was a showoff. The kind that would go for flashy effects instead of tactics that actually worked. There was a time for theatrics, Lupis knew, but they were generally uneffective against truly competent opponents. Admittedly, this guy had some skill to back up his hot air -- embedding a cardboard playing card in a metal railing was always impressive. But it was still just showing off.
"And for my next trick..."
"You continue with the Bullseye-ripoff monologues?"
Lupis had seen DareDevil, on the basis that Spider-man and X2 had been pretty good, and the trailers hadn't looked anywhere near as crappy as those for The Hulk. He had found the movie mediocre at best, though with some interesting fight sequences. He probably would have considered seeing it a waste of money, if he had paid anything to see it anyway.
"I'll admit you've got some skill," he said. "But the comic-book-villain routine is pretty cheap as far as piss-off tactics go."

OOC: Very good, Phasma. A gold star to you! If you can't tell, this character is an homage to most of my favorite comic book characters >_>

IC: So. Someone had a taste for comic books. They had no idea the kinds of things they were telling him with these seemingly innocuous instances of bravado. James had taken the line from the comic itself rather than the movie version, but it was all more or less there. He weighed his options. His boredom wasn't really sated yet, so he'd continue this game a little longer.

Perhaps he should go and just fully initiate a fight at this point.

"Very good. You got the reference," James said, circling slowly. "But trust me, it's not all I can do. In my line of work, I was the best...and even though I retired, I'm still the best at what I do...bub."

SNIKT.

From underneath his sleeves, three metal claws extended themselves as he clenched his fists in a certain way. Basic assassin tools of the trade, useful for climbing as well as an unorthodox close combat weapon.

This time, he was definitely going for the latter.

Lupis knew he should probably keep his mouth shut at this point, but he couldn't help himself. He spoke, egged on by that little inner demon everyone posseses -- not his literal inner demon, of course. If that one had been getting control, Lupis would have been doing, or at least trying, a lot worse than just mouthing off. He was being pushed forward by that little voice whose sole purpose seems to be indirect suicide.
"Impressive. What's next, you turn all black and slimey and start threatening to eat my brains?"
The display with the playing card had been pretty impressive, but the supervillain posturing was just asking for it.

Vintrict smirked as he saw the his rock and another clatter to the ground beside him before tumbling off the edge down to the ground below. Indeed, it seemed as if he was being watched by someone who liked to show off or the like. When he hears one of them say nice sword, he closes his eyes, as he was about to comment on that, yet the other starts to speak to him.

They go at each other with their conflict before he hears some metal, meaning, this was going to get more hectic than he thought. He turns around to the two and replies:"Now, come on, guys. There is no need to get into a fuss over nothing. This is a place for one to come to relax, such as a library or the hot springs."

"Relax?" James said, laughing slightly. "Relax? Everyone else that's come up here all day has been crying about one thing or another. So when I find two people who aren't on the verge of killing themselves, I've got to do something with this opportunity, don't I?"

It was true. And James, lacking a normal childhood, was never one to be predisposed to small talk, really.

"I'm doing all this for one reason only: to alleviate my boredom. Your friend here's played along so far, and made it nice and interesting, but we haven't actually gotten to the nitty-gritty yet, the part where I surprise you with the bite behind my bark, etcetera, etcetera..."

"Play along"...?
"You realize," Lupis said. "That by admitting all this you're just making it more likely that I *won't* fight you, just out of spite."
It was true, really. Lupis found bragging, regardless of actual ability, highly irritating -- especially delivered in the style of a cheesey Marvel villain. Frankly, it sounded like something out of a bad LARP session. Or rather, like something out of what Lupis imagined a bad LARP session would sound like. He didn't have any experience with LARP, and didn't plan on getting any -- but when he took memories of various otaku he had met, added in a huge ego and an obsession with Marvel, the mental composite sounded a lot like what was coming out of James' mouth.
"I, for one, come up here to avoid fights. I enjoy sparring as much as the next guy, but it's nice having someplace to go where I have a reasonable chance of not getting ambushed by a super-villain wannabe."

Vintrict shrugs. "Still, it can be one place to one person and another place to another person. You see it as a place as to have fun...but I see it as a place for looking for peace. Now, why don't we just get to know each other's name first. It always help start a positive conversation amongst one another."
