The library was quiet as not many students were in there and the ones who were there were being quiet so as not to get kicked out. Sunlight filtered through the windows and created squares of light on the floor and helping to light the very slightly dim room. The book shelves stood tall and ominous, watching over the activites going on around them.

Chihiro had found an armchair by a window, and was currently laying in it sideways so her legs from her knees down were hanging down off the arm rest and she was reading a book about astronomy.

"Hm...what should I read here...?"

A young brunette was looking through the books with her index finger near her bottom lip. She was thinking if there was something here she could read to help her give her something to do. Her father had been using videogames to get his inspiration back up once more. That was when she saw the girl on the seat. A smile formed on her face as she walked over to her happily. "Hi there!"

Harker walked through the library with a small stack of books under his arms. He hadn't wanted to bring any of the books from his father's library to AHS, so the school library was currently his only source of books.
He had grabbed a copy of Ender's Game --a favorite from his childhood--, a book on healing that he thought might give him some ideas about his powers, and, because he hadn't read it but heard it was good, a copy of the first Harry Potter book.
He plopped down in one of the armchairs near the library's large windows, the chair large enough to almost swallow him. Though, admittedly, that was true of most armchairs.
He settled back into the cushioning and flipped open the book on healing...

Chihiro looked up at the girl in front of her as if she was something that had just popped out of the book she'd been reading. It was just that without any distractions for a while, her mind had sort of melted into the pages. She blinked, and after a moment got back her sense of reality.

"Hi," she smiled cheerfully, "I'm Chihiro. What's your name?" Just like her to jump right into a friendly conversation with any person she happened to meet. That was when she noticed the guy that had sat in another armchair near her. "And what about you?"

"I'm Aeria, nice to meet you!"

Her eyes flashed a bright green as she looked at Chihiro. She had been wanting to meet new people around the school, and was pretty glad that she was able to meet another new girl. She turned to look at the boy that was here as well, wondering what his name was. All of the while the mark on her left arm was giving off a dull purple light as she looked at him with a pair of emerald green eyes.

"And what about you?"
Harker blinked, looking up from his book over the top of his sunglasses. Was she talking to him?
He decided to take the chance that she had been.
"Um, hi," he said. "May name's Harker."
He pushed the glasses up his nose slightly --one of his small habits.

Chihiro grinned at them. "Pleasure to meet you both. So what brings you guys to the library? Hey, if you don't mind me asking, what are your powers?"

It was still a little awkward for her to talk about powers or use her own around others since she'd never met anyone else with powers until she came here and no one had ever actually witnessed hers except for her adoptive mother Reala, but she figured that the best way to get over that was to face it head on.

"Our powers?"

Aeria blinked a couple of times when she was asked this. It wasn't really odd, but kind of out of the blue. Didn't really matter anyway though. She had no problem showing her what she had. "Well, for starters I use this energy that my mom has. It's called kai energy, and I think it is a combination of ki and chi energy. But I also have my dad's own special kind of energy too. Watch this....Nova shield!"

She looked like she was shoving air, making her palms create a barrier of energy in front of her for a few moments before it disappeared. "I can also combine my energies to make a strong beam. Other than that, I have some equipment that I use a lot. But I keep it in my dorm room though."

Chihiro stared at the energy shield before it disappeared. A smile slowly formed on her face after she saw it and Aeria told her about her other powers.

"That's like what I can do!" she said excitedly. For some reason, meeting someone with similar powers to hers made her feel better about even being at this school. "I can manipulate light."

She held up her hand in the light shining in from the window and captured some of it, creating a small orb of light that floated above her hand, then flattened it and condensed more light around it to create a small forcefield over her hand. She quickly released it though since the unusual shine might draw some library staff over to them. "It's not very powerful though..."

"Nah, don't worry about it Chihiro. Give it time and it will get stronger."

Aeria had a smile on her face as she watched her make the force field as well. "It took me a while to use my shield," she said truthfully. "With shields, it usually takes a lot more patience. But in the end, a good defense is the best offense. Especially if we use our shields to protect our friends and the ones we hold dear," she said with a smile on her face.

Harker listened in fascination to the talk about the shields and energy manipulation.
"That's pretty cool," he said. "I can sort of... feel where a person's hurt, but your's seems lot more... practical, I suppose."
His sunglasses slipped slightly, and his hand moved -almost on its own- and pushed them back in place. He had been wearing the glasses, or a similar pair, for at least a year -- keeping them in place had become habitual, if not instinctive for him.

Chihiro grinned at Harker. "Yours is cool too. And it does a lot more good. Mine can barely stand up against a strong gust of wind, and it's more a defense than anything else. You can help heal people by knowing when they need help."

She turned Aeria and tilted her head. "But I guess you're right. Once my powers are strong enough, I can use my shields to protect others too." she smiled, very happy with that thought.

"You can see where a person is hurt? And you're saying mine is more practical?" She looked at the boy straight in the eye as she spoke. Her green eyes had been changing back to their normal brown color. "Do you have any idea what potential that power has if you focus it enough?" She thought if he gone down the medical path, he could save a lot of lives in the future. She then looked at Chihiro and smiled. "Well, give it time and it will be able to stand stronger."

Harker blushed slightly from embarassment as spoke to him, staring him in the face.
"Right now it's nothing a doctor or medic couldn't do," he said. "I know it could get better with time, but I suppose a shield seems more..."
He struggled slightly to find the right word.
"Immediate, I guess."
It wasn't perfect, but it would have to do.

Chihiro nodded at Harker. "It may be more immediate, but mine can hardly stand up against a strong gust of wind. Well, both of our powers will get better. I think our powers are like any other part of our body. I mean, if you didn't use your legs at all for a few years, it would be very difficult to even do something as simple as walking when you tried to use them again. We just have to keep practicing our powers and training them and they'll get stronger." she smiled.

"Yeah, I suppose so," Harker said. "That's one of the reason's I've been looking forward to the Powers class."
Harker had been to several of the classes so far, but nothing had yet done much for his powers.
"It's also the reason I grabbed this," he said, holding up the book on healing.

Aeria looked at the book of healing that Harker was holding and smiled at it. "You can actually learn some really interesting stuff at that class." She stopped short telling them about her father. They might get kind of freaked out if they learned that she was from the future. "My friend Andrew had taken the class a couple of times already. He knows how to a little bit of energy signature scan and make little orbs of energy that he could be able to form into shapes," she said enthusiastically.

Chihiro brightened at the talk of classes. She'd never really been one for school (who was?) but at this new school where they taught you about powers and such how could she not love it? It was different, it was fun, it was exciting, it was mystical...and she hadn't even been to a class yet. She did read some of the books it though.

"I haven't been to a powers class yet either. Learning about our powers and how to control them seems exciting," she said.
