Juliette trekked to the courtyard quietly, carrying an over-stuffed duffel bag that was filled with all of her earthly belongings. She was alone and determined; her stride was long and purposeful, her eyes focused and alert. The Sunday afternoon was cloaked with silence, but Juliette was indifferent. She had just arrived back to the campus from her four month 'vacation' at the hospital and she was tired, beat, and apathetic.

Juliette found a bench under the crumpling orange and yellow foliage in the courtyard, and sat down to take a rest. Her body was aching from the long walk from the airport, but her brain was as inactive as ever. Her thoughts did not stray from her mother, not one bit, and the world around her seemed like white noise. She laid her bag next to her and stretched out, basking in the Autumn warmth that protruded through the branches.

She didn't say a word, but moaned and yawned from time to time, her azure eyes jumping from distraction to distraction.

And then she saw it.

Juliette rose from her relaxed position and jogged to a jagged fence that stood out conspicuously against the cloudless sky that surrounded it. Without thinking, she stroked the fence with her index finger, looking at it intently.

"I know how you feel." She whispered quietly to the fence. Which was, in all reality, the truth. The world around her seemed to be revolving at a nice, serene pace, but the inner chaos she posessed stuck out like a sore thumb when she was in any crowd. Juliette bit her lip and continued running her fingers over the broken wood.

"Ouch! Dammit!" She exclaimed as a splinter from the wood and her flesh merged into one.

Jumping from one thing onto another. A young strange-looking boy was going down the road in the middle of the courtyard. More zig-zaggy than straight, his road was just leading him to get some food from the cafeteria. His stomach as empty as his mind was from responsabilities, he wondered what he was going to discover in that place where food flowed like water in a river. He seemed rather happy, the grin on his smile seemed to grow after each jumps he did.

As agile as a grizzly bear, he jumped from a bench to land on a flower pot, which immediatly broke and forced him to trip and fall down, arm first on the ground. It was only a superficial arm, but on the instant, it seemed like the most painful of all the pains. ''Agh... ouch! Ahh!!'' said the young, short and orange-haired boy, pulling back the sleeve of his sweater and looking at his elbow which was pretty painful at the moment.

Rubbing that temporary scar, he looked around to see if anybody was laughing at him or anything, but the only thing he saw was some girl who was touching a fence.

As he approached that young girl, he saw her hurt herself with that fence. That fence seemed broken from afar and was probably the same from a closer look. Maybe she had stung herself with one of these needle-like tiny pieces of wood. These mischief makers who make you regret touching wood as a child.

He had been walking up to the stranger, the girl, as he noticed her. For some strange reasons. Shoobie, the young jumping boy, felt like speaking to that person. Maybe it was just because he felt like speaking with someone, it had been about three weeks he hadn't spoken to anyone, he was too busy with all his schoolwork. Anyway, he was there, ready to say a word or two, at least. ''Hello there!'' he said cheerfully and with great confidence. Shyness was just another world for him, it seemed.

Juliette's head whipped around immediately, the sharp sensation of pain momentarily forgotten for the shock of an unfamiliar voice. She turned away from the object of her attention to this boy, this boy who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere. Juliette quicky placed her wounded finger in her mouth tenderly, hoping the pain would subside for good.

"Hello..." Her voice was drained and weak. Her eyes were sunken into her face filled with sadness and oblique apathy. It had been a while since she had spoken to someone her own age and she was frankly dried up when it came to conversation.

His cheerful face caught Juliette even more off-guard, and her blank expression showed that she hadn't smiled in quite a long time. She lapped at her finger with her tongue, staring at the boy, wondering why he had decided to talk to her.

"I'm sorry...You just, startled me..." Juliette placed her free hand in the pocket of her torn jeans, feeling awkward and shy. Had she become totally inept during her hiatus from school? Inside, her heart wanted so much to talk to someone, but she couldn't find the motivation to do so on her own.

Shoobie was always happy or, at least, he always seemed to be happy. Rare were those with that little bottomless bottle of happiness linked to their heart, those who never were sad, those who were just always smiling, having fun and trying to make others happy. Shoobie was one of them, those that wanted to share the joy, the desire of living. That young boy who had made so many people smile, that young boy who had given some of his time to help others when they were going to fall in the world of unhappiness.

''Oh, I'm sorry. Hehe.'' he said, looking at her, precisely at her hand. ''Are you okay? I noticed you had hurt yourself, somehow.'' he said, showing his kindest side of his personnality.

In fact, Shoobie only had good sides of his personnality, other than his slightly violent advenger side, when it came to the feelings of his important persons. He was always ready to hurt somebody, if somebody else had been hurt by that person. He protected, avenged and helped all the people who was really important to him, his friends, his mother and his dear, sick grandmother.

Juliette removed her finger from her mouth and looked at it. There was a small, almost unnoticable dark spot deep below her skin, and when she pushed her fingernail on it to try and push it out, the sting pulsed through her entire arm. She held up her finger for the young, fiery-haired boy to observe, moving a foot or so closer to him.

"Yeah, I got a splinter, I think. It just hurts a lot. Not too big of a deal, I guess."

She once again looked at it and replaced her digit back inside her mouth, trying now to bite the miniscule piece of lumber out of her finger. She must have looked so childish, standing there with hurt eyes and her finger stuck in her mouth. But, at the same time, she felt like a child; her mother was sick and she had never felt so alone in her life.

She was wearing a black hooded jacket and flip-flops, which made her look tired and homeless. In a sense, she was, since had neglected to move back into her dorm before she had decided upon a little stroll to the courtyard. Her choppy, golden hair was pulled together in a pony-tail, and her other hand remained in her back pants pocket. She was the eptimome of pathetic and that's how she felt as well.

"Thanks for asking," She said, holding up her finger once again.

''Aww, I hate it when it happens to me. It doesn't hurt that much, but if you don't remove it, it really gets on your nerves.'' he said, laughing a little and looking at her finger going into her mouth and back out. He couldn't help it, but smile. He felt happy once again, speaking to somebody. Even though he had that little endless joy always burning inside of him, he really needed people to make him live, otherwise, he would be sad and depressed. People were his oxygen, litterally.

For Shoobie, clothes were nearly nothing, clothes were just one of the things you used to warm yourself. Well, he thought that of his clothes. He always wears fuzzy outfits. A navy officer suit there, some weird christmas-like outfit there and some pretty casual normal clothes there. He didn't really care about his clothes, neither about the clothes of other people. For him, Juliette was dressed quite normally.

''No problem.'' he said, his smile growing a little more. ''My name's Shoobie, by the way.'' he said, moving his arm forward for a handshake. ''May I know yours?'' he asked, as politely as he could.

Juliette pulled her best hand (literally) out of her pocket and put itforward, shaking Shoobie's hand. Though she wasn't smiling, her body seemed to ease up as he introduced himself and continued talking to her. Juliette let both of her arms hang by her side as she cleared her throat.

"I'm Juliette. It's nice to meet you...Shoobie." Her words were faint and solemn, but Juliette hoped Shoobie wouldn't take offense to it; she had simply become inept with normal human conversation after only talking to sterile nurses and her vegitated mother for so long. Without thinking, she pulled out a cigarette and shoved it inbetween her lips, lighting it with some fifty-cent lighter she had picked up on her way back to school. This whole situation was making her nervous and apprehensive, and she needed something to calm her down. After exhaling, she looked at Shoobie.

"I'm sorry, I hope you don't mind smoking." Even if he did mind, she would not give up her cancer sticks for anyone. They had helped her survive, saved her from plummeting into an even deeper depression. They were her crutch.

The twinge of pain from her splinter seemed to dull as she smoked, and she ran shaking fingers through her wealth of golden-brown hair.

"So, what brings you to the courtyard?" Conversation seemed to flow more easily now.

Shoobie could feel that Juliette wasn't feeling really right. From the way she spoke and the way she was acting. Her outsides clothes seemed a little to show some kind of depressing state or something that looked like that, but the two firsts were more explicit to the little boy. Even though some people might call her a pathetic person, Shoobie didn't care, he wanted to be friend with that new person, even if he didn't know anything about her yet, other than her name.

''It's nice to meet you too!'' he said, again with that cheerful tone of his. He looked at her take a cigarette and lit it. He looked at her curiously until she asked him if it was alright. ''Hum, I don't really care, as long as you don't blow the smoke in your face. I'm trying to be a healthy little boy, you know.'' he said, trying not to sound too nerdular. ''Never thought about stopping smoking?'' he asked, looking at her with a faint smile.

''What brings me here? Hum... oh yes, I was going to the lunchroom, to go grab something to eat, but I fell down on that broken pot of flower there and then I forgot that I was hungry. Speaking about it makes me hungry again... gah...'' he said, putting his hand to his stomach and laughing a little as a strange sound came of it.

Juliette inhaled deeply, but did not exhale immediately. She let the smoke rest in her lungs, fog her throat and then finally pour out of her nose in a most satisfying drag. She made sure the smoke was nowhere near Shoobie, and ashed the nicotine stick onto the cracked pavement. She held it in her fingers for a while, letting the end burn like an afternoon star.

"It wouldn't make sense to quit, since I just started." Juliette remarked, her voice, again robbed of passion. A chill ran through the courtyard, so Juliette zipped up and pulled the hood over her head. Her hands were cold, but Juliette preferred them holding her cigarette instead of tucked warmly into her jeans.

"Hungry?" The word was estranged from her, almost foreign; she hadn't really fed herself since she had stayed with her mother. It wasn't intentional, of course, she just always felt so queasy and knotted up inside her intestines, and she wasn't particularly fond of vomitting, so she hardly ate. She took another drag and kicked her feet against a pile of crunching leaves.

"Oh...well, don't let me keep you. You should go eat..." The afternoon was fading now, the sun slowly sinking from it's superior position in the sky to let the twilight commence.

''You should quit already then, so your body doesn't need it yet.'' he said, looking at the cigarette then back into her eyes. ''Oh well, it doesn't matter. If it makes you happy, it's good then.'' he said, laughing a little. He had never tried to smoke, drink or anything like that, since he didn't need them to be happy, so far. He just needed a good friend to be happy or to play a trick to some stranger.

Shoobie just looked around and spotted a bench. He slowly started to go walk up to it, looking at his new potential friend. ''Yes, hungry. I'm always hungry for some strange reasons. I think I just move too much. I just love jumping all around, instead of walking. I prefer to run instead of jogging. I prefer speed to slowness.'' he said, laughing a little.

''Ah, I don't care. You seem like a pretty good person and I don't want to miss an occasion to know you a little more.'' he said, as he jumped up to the bench. A long leap which was at least 5 feet up and 8 feet long, a real splendor. ''C'mon sit down.'' he said, his other power automatically activating itself as the cold wind began to blow. Yes, the power to be a human furnace.

Juliette just shrugged at Shoobie's apparent concern for her health and finished her cigarette, flicking it off somewhere into the distance. She was about to join him on the bench, when she witnessed a slightly odd occurence; that is, his five-foot leap into the air. Juliette's eyebrows rose slightly, but her other facial features remained neutral. She kept forgetting where she was....that is, back with her own 'kind'. Shoving both hands into her jacket pockets, she slowly walked over to the bench and sat, stretching out her back as she did.

"You do move around a lot, don't you?" Juliette asked, her eyes closing with exhaustion. She was by no means falling asleep. In fact it had become harder and harder for her to fall into an unconscious state, she had begun having terrible, terrible dreams.

Shoobie seemed kind, and full of energy, two things which Juliette could not even remotely fathom posessing at this time in her life. She was not cruel, or mean-spirited in any way, she simply could not give a damn about anything. And though it helped her tuck herself into a cocoon, it also scared her more than she was willing to admit to herself.

"I'm...sorry. I'm just not much of a conversationalist."

Juliette looked like no one could make her laugh or even smile. Not even a simple chuckle could come out of her mouth. She just was a wall with a mouth so far or, at least, that was what Shoobie was seeing. Shoobie could see through that wall though, that's what he believed. He though that Juliette was a good person, maybe she didn't so far, but that cheerful, almost hyperactive kid would surely break that wall, so he would discover how Juliette really is.

''YESSS!!! I always move, always, if I'm not with somebody else. When I'm alone, I'm always jumping from a place to another, just for fun and to use my stamina. It doesn't look like that, but I have tons of energy. I could run all day without being exhausted or just a little. I'm a total freak!'' he said, laughing and crossing his legs indian-style as he was sitting next to Juliette.

''Ah? Doesn't matter. As long as you can listen and answer, I'm pretty much happy. I'm too much of a conversationalist... so... I kind of complete the non-speaking part of you. If you think I speak too much... well... just tell me!'' he said, grinning.

Juliette didn't move, but sensed the constant energy that was emitting from Shoobie. It didn't bother her. It didn't really do anything to her. Juliette had developed a deep, deep tolerance for things around her, whether it be a beeping maching, or a shouting doctor, or even an extremely hyper teenager. It was all background noise to her.

"Well, I've gotten damn good at listening." Juliette murmured, her eyes fluttering open to watch the sky dress itself in orange and purple. In her heart, she felt Shoobie's kindness, she felt like she wanted to be friendly. But again, she just could not motivate herself to. Nothing mattered. She had sunken so deep into her hole of pessimism that she hardly believe in anything anymore, especially the fact that people were good.

Her eyes were transfixed on the sky now, and she felt her nose redden with the slight nip that laced the air. November had set in nicely, and she was enjoying the weather.

"Please, talk about whatever you want." Indifference tinted her voice, but she was willing to listen to whatever this strange, but nice boy had to say.

If Shoobie wanted, he could just go outside without clothes or really light clothes. His power allowed that, since he could warm himself up whenever we wanted. He could also warm other people than him, which was great during Winter. He could share what nobody could, warmth. He could also share his natural human warmth, his voice, his presence. He was like a thermos of love.

''Oh, well that's awesome then, but it is also pretty fun to hear somebody else speak about himself. I really love to hear what others have to tell me, hehe. This world is just full of mysteries!!'' he said, smiling.

Shoobie looked at Juliette again. She wasn't bad looking, a little smile up on her lips would be just perfect. She would just splendid. Although, she didn't look like she was going to smile soon. She just seemed so indifferent to him so far or, maybe, she really was indifferent to anyone. Maybe she didn't like Shoobie. If she was, she'd probably tell him.

Thinking about it, Shoobie thought that it would be great to make her smile. It was his objective for now, put a smile on that cutish girl's face. Yup!

''Hehe... I actually don't know what to speak about now... as you ask me. Habitually, I just speak and speak and the subjects flow like the blood of an open wound.'' he said, shrugging. ''Oh... but... tell me. What's your powers?''

Juliette was once again caught off-guard by the fiery young man who now sit beside her, and she pondered how to answer the question. Was it supposed secret? She had never gotten a chance to discuss the matter with her mother or her aunts and she was, well, confused. To civilians, she knew, she was supposed to keep her identity a secret, to conceal her magnificent senshi form. But, her parents had sent her here to get away from civilians, to be with kids who were like her. She once again bit her lip, apprehensively, trying to phrase her words properly.

"Well, I guess you could say I'm a super hero...or could be..." Juliette scratched her head, wondering if she should divulge her true form to a near-stranger. She took a deep breath and spat it out.

"I'm a Sailor Scout." And it was out there. The words seemed to hang in the air like molasses, awaiting the reaction of Shoobie. Though it was true that she nearly never transformed, nor had reason to, she still posessed the power to do so. Her heart was beating faster now, anxious to feel the consequences of her admission.

"It's...hereditary." She excused her powers, though she didn't know why. She looked at Shoobie, her cheeks paling a little.

For Shoobie, his power was mostly not really spectacular, nor magical. People wouldn't be callin him an heretic or anything like that, if he would show his powers to somebody. They would be more a little impressed of his jumps or feel comfortable around him, especially during Winter, because of his heat power. Though, some powers kill and hurt people, those are called heretics or super vilains.

''A super-hero?'' he asked her, a bit confused about it. She didn't look like a super-hero, well... from the outside at least. She didn't have any extravagant or fancy outfit that made her look like a super-hero. Shoobie just continued to look at her, her ears ready to listen what she really meant.

''A sailor scout? Like Sailor Moon?!'' he asked, a bit surprised. ''Wow. I thought these weren't real at all. I thought it was a just a cartoon inspired by superheroes, but it's real? That's a pretty cool power. I wish I could've have such a power...'' he said, looking down and looking sad. Though, he couldn't look sad for too much time without laughing.

Juliette winced as Shoobie exclaimed over her power, not wanting or needing the attention he had bestowed on her because of his astonishment. Juliette herself had never met Sailor Moon, but like she said, it was hereditary so there could have been many generations between her and the Queen. She never considered herself a real sailor scout, she never felt pretty enough our elegant enough. But what was given to her at birth was all she had, it was her heritage, so she respected it.

"I haven't really used my powers, at all...My mom was one, and my aunts and..." She was babbling, searching for words to string her sentence together coherantly. But, to no avail. Her eyes slid towards Shoobie.

"Well...it's apprent you're a little more...'vertically gifted' than anyone else I know. Is there anything else?" She wanted the conversation to shift away from her quickly, she wasn't comfortable discussing herself, especially in her current state of dishabille.

"My powers aren't really all that special." Juliette resigned, resting her head on the back of the bench and staring at the darkening sky.

''Maybe you should. Well you're here for that. To use your powers and to make them better or, at least, to get better at using them or finding new powers.'' he said, looking at her, the last sun rays of the day reflecting in her eyes and making them dangerously beautiful. ''Well... since I'm here, my powers became much better. From a few feet, I can now jump to a maximum height of 10 feet and a maximum lenght of about 15 feet. I can also jump more than I used too. At first, I could only do a leap every thirty seconds, one big leap, but now I can make one every 5 seconds. The small leaps I was doing when I came here, I do them every seconds, hehe.'' he said, laughing and being proud of him in some way.

''So I'm sure you could develop your potential, if you study and practice.'' he said, poking her shoulder joyfully.

''Vertically gifted? Can't you see I'm about 4 feet and half tall?'' he asked, laughing. ''I can jump really high though, so getting objects on top of shelves isn't really a problem. My other power is to produce heat from my body. I've tried to transform my body into fire, but it's really hard. All I could do was get my hand in fire, without harming myself. The whole body would be really hard.''

''Yes, they ARE special. Everyone has different powers, everyone is special!''
