Home sweet home... Rena nosed her way through the underbrush, eyeing the landmarks, following a very craftily hidden route through a dense patch of thorny brush. Long, sharp needles in the bushes scraped along her side and clipped her across the nose every once in a while, but she pushed through, following a path big enough for her, and possibly Ray. (with maybe a bit of difficulty...)

The swath of sharp and foreboding plants cut through a small portion of the forest, growing denser and harder to get through towards the middle, exactly where she was heading. There was no way of forcing your way through. And the ominous thorny area was shoulder high for Rena in wolfen form, and clear over the heads of any man who wanted to get through. The area itself was seated unnervingly close to the Dark Forest, and the thorn bushes thrived in this particular area- dense and widespread.

They were near to the thick of it and Rena was forced to crawl on her belly for the last few feet. She would have glanced back over her shoulder to check on Ray, but there simply wasn't enough room. So she merely growl-whined a concern back to him as she went. Looking up, she could see that they were nearly through. Ahead, the brush opened up into a perfect circle of a hollow. A circle of stones, varying in type and color, but all the same size, formed the boundaries of the clearing. Beyond this, no thorns grew. It was an old bit of fae magic, but the fairies that had created this circle must have abandoned it a long time ago, and so it stayed until Rena found it. The area was on something of a hill, and near the back of the circle, a hole- the entryway to a cavern was carved into the steepest part of the upgrade.

Moving into the circle, Rena stretched out, sticking her butt in the air and stretching her forelegs, then shifting forward and stretching her back and hind legs. Finishing with a shake that scattered bits of dead bramble and thorns from her fur, she turned to make sure that Ray was following before she ducked into the cavern.

Stopping once inside, she looked around. She liked the place well enough. It was a part of a cave, something of an underground spring that stopped gushing water long before she got there. Now it was dry, and comprised of limestone and granite with a fine layer of clay, sand, and silt for a floor. The only water that still remained was a tiny trickle of fresh water that seeped from a hole in the back of the cave and filtered through the stone into the ground, only pooling a few times along the way. Shallow, nonthreatening pools. She liked that. A meek water source for a hater of large quantities of water. It was something she learned to live with.

Rolling back onto her haunches, she sat and waited for Ray. He'd shown her his domain, now she was showing him a tiny piece of hers.

(Following Rena as he did from the lake, Ray noted that the scene was changing slightly. The bushes were becoming more like bramble, and by that we mean that long and spiky pointed things were involved. Ray was no botanist, so the terms involved here for identifying the plants and so on were lost on him. Ray was brushed by these more than Rena, oweing to the fact that his current form was bigger. Thus, he was steadily growing more annoyed by these things. Fortunately, they were not very painful, really. Just irritating. Ray was on his belly sooner than Rena was. And at the time of his growl-whine, Ray say ahead that it was going to get worse and gritted his teeth while flattening his ears. And then...FINALLY, he made it out into the circle. Only after that, though, he realized...)

Ray: I probably should have taken my human form to get in easier. Being a large wolf only aids you so far.

(He looks around the place, wondering how long it took to form. Ray gave Rena a firendly wolfish smirk, saying...)

Ray: This is the part where "Welcome to my world." comes in, right?

(He had come here partially out of curiosity and partially out of concern. However, a fact that he was more and more learning to be true was that he also liked Rena...and wondered if she felt the same...)

Smiling all tooth-and-fang, Rena nodded.

"Yep. And you wouldn't have gotten in here in human form. You'd have been torn to shreds by those thorns. We have a thick pelt to guard us from those nasty spines in wolf from. Some of them have barbs and are in a few cases, are mildly poisonous. But we're relatively immune to it in this shape."

Looking around her, Rena took in the familiar place, taking a second to, for the first time in her life, make a comparison of it to herself. She knew on the inside she was relatively peaceful, quiet, friendly even. But did she have that exterior ring of thorns? Thinking back, she took time to consider the fact that everyone she had ever met had to get past some variation of a wall in order to witness this true side of her. Even Ray. Was she so foreboding on the outside that she resembled the thorny brambles surrounding her den?

But even so, if she was so terrible to get to know, there were still a few that managed it despite the trouble. Ray was one of them. Come to think of it, Ray had been there for a lot of her recent break-downs. Only someone who was insane, an idiot, someone in love, or for that matter, someone in serious 'like' would bother to do that. Or.... a somewhat lessening thought rears its ugly head. Someone who thought they were Alpha protecting a lesser pack member. Now THAT would just make her mad. Somehow, though, she seriously doubted this. Or seriously didn't want it to be true.

For the time that she thought about this, she appeared to be deep in thought, a bit concerned, even. After a minute, she looked back at Ray, her expression curious, and a little hesitant.

"Umm... Ray? Why do you keep helping me? I know this sounds incredibly middle-school ish, but.... you have a crush on me or something? You put yourself into a lot of harm's way on my account..."

Realizing that this sounded even more hokey than what it was originally meant to be, she averted her gaze, choosing to stare at one of the walls inside the den instead and hoping beyond hope that he didn't laugh at her.

"Look... forget I said anything. Of course you don't like me like that... that's not what I meant to say. I mean... God, this speech isn't getting any better, is it?"

She could feel all the blood rushing to her face. If she'd been human, she would have been blushing. But in this form? The only tell-tale sign was that she sat uncomfortably rigid and avoided looking at Ray like the plague.

(They were what? Ray was caught in a look of surprise from what Rena said. Deadly thorns to human forms? He had hardly expected that. Rena really enjoyed her privacy then... He was glad that he'd followed his instincts and stayed in the form of a wolf. Who knows what shape he'd have been in otherwise? Speaking of which, he was beginning to question himself in all seriousness on why he was really here. If he wanted to just make sure that Rena was safe, he could have left at the entrance and not bothered with the brambles at all. And curiosity? Curiosity is not so important. He didn't even realized how dangerous his surroundings really were. Of course, as a wolf, they weren't so dangerous at all. They were annoying only. So...)

"Umm... Ray? Why do you keep helping me? I know this sounds incredibly middle-school ish, but.... you have a crush on me or something? You put yourself into a lot of harm's way on my account..."

(Yeah, what she said. Ray was...caught off guard by Rena's sudden inquiry...as well as the nature of the inquiry. Her blue-eyed gaze seemed to prevent him from getting any words out. His own eyes were steady, appearing as if he had not been expecting the question...because he hadn't. He wanted to say something, but...how? Then, he noticed a change in Rena as she quickly looked away.)

"Look... forget I said anything. Of course you don't like me like that... that's not what I meant to say. I mean... God, this speech isn't getting any better, is it?"

(She felt embarassed by her statement. He could see that from her actions. Dammit, had his chance been missed? Missed what? What was he worried about, besides her feelings? He did like her, but how far did that go? He'd been wondering the ame thing about himself and her. For the most part, Ray thought he had the answer for himself. All that remained was Rena... Carefully, he stepped towards her and then sat down. No compromising of personal space, just a small reminder that he was still here, and not chortling at her. Ray was silent for a few seconds more as Rena still kept her gaze from him. Then, he spoke.)

Ray: Don't be ashamed about asking. You're doing alot better than I am. I...well... I was actually wondering the same thing... I just didn't have the courage to ask.

(His own head started to look at the ground instead of Rena's back.)

Ray: I thought you'd hate me if I did, or feel insulted. I didn't want to risk losing the friendship we already had on a single question like that. When I came to the lake, I did so that quickly because I'd never hard you sound so urgent before. It cut me to the cold to know that even you could be put in such a state. The last time I moved that fast, someone I know was being sacrificed in some kind of ritual and died before I could stop it.

(A kitsune, Min, had been the one conducting the ritual. Min was insane. The murdering lunatic had taken an ordinary human girl and sacrificed her through disembowelment to the full moon, a terrible insult to one who uses that moon for energy like Ray. He never managed to catch Min, unfortunately, and the girl's death stayed on his conscience for a long time. When Ray thought of that and the urgency in Rena's cry today...)

Ray: I knew you wouldn't call in such a way unless you meant it, and I didn't want anything to happen to you, not like how that ritual ended... You mean alot to me, Rena, so don't ever be afraid to ask such things about me.

(Then, so saying, Ray looked over at her, and realized what he just said. Suddenly, he felt flush and embarassed himself. What had he done???)

Ray: Oh man... I just answered the question, didn't I? I should pay more attention to what I'm saying before I say it...

Oh, and then there was the awkward silence. Rena could hear the blood pounding in her head as she stared fixedly at the floor. One pebble... two, three... a twig, a leaf. The leaf was dried and decorated in varying shades of brown. Laying forgotten, old, and neglected in the corner of the den against the wall, it blended in almost perfectly. Camouflaged. She would give anything to be camouflaged right now... Studying the leaf with the clinging dust particles and the fine layer of sand that had blown in from the door against its one side, she began to drown her screaming thoughts in leafy details. She almost felt pity for that leaf and its lonely existence over in the corner. Abandoned, abused, and left to die all by its lonesome in her dark little den. If she hadn't been so serious about it, she might have stopped to laugh at herself for pitying a leaf. But... anything to keep from thinking about herself at this very moment. Just as she started tracing along the veins in the dried and crumpled leaf with her eyes, Erastor began speaking.

"Don't be ashamed about asking. You're doing a lot better than I am. I...well... I was actually wondering the same thing... I just didn't have the courage to ask."

Immediately, the flush of warmth came back into her furred face and she felt almost as if she would burn to ashes from skin level down. At the last part of the comment, however, she looked up at Ray, horrified and curious. What on earth did he need courage to talk to her about? Mr. Big and Bad, backed by his numerous packmemebers and friends, -surely- wouldn't have had any problems voicing himself to a lone wolf like her, even if she was only a bit smaller than him. She would be faster, but in brute strength? She wasn't even going to pretend she could take him muscle for muscle. She was lean, he was not. She could run, but he could flatten her in a head-to-head confrontation. This is what confused her. In the wolf world, the only reason for fear is if you think you're going to get the shit knocked out of you. Cunning and speed considered, it could possibly come to a toss-up between Ray and herself, but that's no reason for him to fear her. That's a reason to try and prove that you're bigger and badder so that it won't come to a confrontation to figure it out. In her wolf's frame of mind, what he had just said made little or no sense at all. It took her several minutes to work it out.

What she had forgotten, for the most part, was that they weren't dealing in wolf concepts. The human part of her brain was having a hard time functioning amidst all her stress and worry, and for a moment, she was left shuffling around with his statement and trying to work through it rationally in wolf logic. Then he embellished.

"I thought you'd hate me if I did, or feel insulted. I didn't want to risk losing the friendship we already had on a single question like that. When I came to the lake, I did so that quickly because I'd never hard you sound so urgent before. It cut me to the cold to know that even you could be put in such a state. The last time I moved that fast, someone I know was being sacrificed in some kind of ritual and died before I could stop it."

Lightbulb. She swung into her human mind frame, almost as if the sudden inspiration to do so just up and hit her in the head, and she began feeling less and less threatened by the horribly personal conversation. In fact, so much so that she was left wanting to console him and negate his thoughts about her hating him or feeling insulted by him. Before she could get a word in edgewise, though, the conversation got even more personal. Only a soft "Oh..." managed to eek past her muzzle before she could stop it. She suddenly felt like she was treading upon something very tender to him, eggshells that she would rather not break. This kind of deep personal trauma she wasn't sure if she was comfortable being entrusted with. It wasn't that she was in danger of abusing it, but more like she was uncertain as to whether or not she should be allowed to know that kind of privileged information. She decided to keep her clumsy mouth shut until he was done talking, not wanting to interrupt him or make him feel like she wasn't paying attention to him.

"I knew you wouldn't call in such a way unless you meant it, and I didn't want anything to happen to you, not like how that ritual ended... You mean a lot to me, Rena, so don't ever be afraid to ask such things about me."

Letting out a deep breath that she hadn't known she had been holding, she tilted her head to one side, and fixed him with a pair of intent ice blue eyes, pale sapphires of hidden thought and untold history. For being the bearer of such wisdom, it seemed as though she never had access to it until after she had experienced some of it for herself. This was one of those occasions. If the events and ordeals in her life were keys, then they unlocked the stores of information granted to her by her ancestors. To understand it, she must experience it. And so, with this one thing under her belt, she suddenly felt a wash of comfort and ease about the situation. Like she had experienced it all before. The change was so dramatic, it was laughable.

Just like that, the blushing stopped, the embarrassment melted away like the remnants of snow in mid spring, and gave way to a comforting silence as she watched Ray with the utmost attention, secrets and knowledge of classified information dancing within the crystalized depths of those somehow still youthful and innocent eyes.

As one gains knowledge and experience, it is almost impossible to retain an innocence behind one's eyes. You can always tell when its there, and it's obvious when it drifts away, leaving a haunted and certainly more jaded version of those once bright and curious orbs behind. She managed to retain some of that glimmer of childlike wonder and gleefulness, despite her growing store of experience and knowlege, trapping it in all its cherished splendor right on the exterior before you hit the depths behind it.

On the rarity that the glimmer showed itself, like in this moment, Rena found herself very exposed, as if all her careful social walls and boundaries were ripped apart, leaving the real Rena standing unprotected in the midst of the shedded layers. At this particular moment, she could tell exactly what she felt. Uncoded and very raw in her mind, she knew what particular emotion she was feeling in childlike clarity. Uncomplexed, uncompromised. And just like a young pup, she knew exactly what she wanted, and wasn't too embarassed or put off to go for it. In a simple pupish quote, "If you want something, take it when they're not paying attention. Otherwise it'll be gone before its your turn."

So, while laughing a little at Ray's last comment, Rena shifted onto all four paws and trotted a few paces forward, right into the personal space and the 'no mans land' between them that Ray was so carefully trying to avoid infringing on. Plopping down next to him, she nosed her muzzle into the fur on his neck, just like she had done not too long ago, and inhaled deeply. The musky smell of wolf, pine, leaves, dirt, and other things flooded into her senses and she exhaled into his fur, closing her eyes and letting her muzzle rest on his shoulder next to his neck.

She wasn't going to worry about social codes or the intricate and very human dance that's done between two interested parties. At the current moment, she deemed it all to be an unwarrented waste of time and breath, and so comforted herself by very assuredly invading Ray's personal space bubble and being content to not say anything at all, but rather enjoy the peace and quiet and warmth of his fur. They'd beaten around the bush long enough and wasted enough precious time with feelings of discomfort. So she reverted to the one thing that brought her mind the most peace. Wolfish instinct. And right now that instinct told her that she was tired and still a little cold. Ray was warm and furry and made a nice leaning post. Only humans make it hard to put two and two together, and she simply didn't have the patience for that.

(The fact that she had been looking up at him with an expression that he couldn't quite read at the moment. Curiosity and...what? He wasn't sure, and he wasn't going to let that deter him until he was done. Maybe something was misunderstood. He didn't know. In the end, Rena appeared to understand completely, including that he had just sort of messed up in a way. The fact that he sometimes acted human annoyed him in all cases, save for when dealing with his family. In any case, her gaze said it all. He'd gotten whatever point he was trying to make across. She seemed to chuckle a bit as she moved towards him. After that, she rested herself against him as she'd done before, though more relaxed and less wet this time around. He felt eased by the touch, by the smell, by the breathing against him. It was clear to him that there were very few barriers between them. They were of the same world. That was all that really mattered. And as Rena rested her head, Ray felt the fatigue finally catch up with him. Playing the part of the hero was taxing, so he let his head rest on her back as it had before in extreme comfort, just relaxing there. They both needed it, that calm and peaceful center... This was the answer to the question. It had no words to speak. It was simply an action which said all. They had shared something terrible, and now they were sharing something good. If there was more to it than that, Ray didn't want to know. Even if something in his human frame of mind could have said not to do this, which it wouldn't, he couldn't remove himself on his will alone. His will said "Stay here, like this", and would not change unless Rena wished it to change. That was Ray in a nutshell. He was a crowd-pleaser.)

Rena didn't want to fall asleep, she really didn't. But leaning on Ray with that comforting smell of pack and wolf about him, with all that soft fur and enticing warmth, it was all she could do to keep her eyes from closing. Which they eventually did. Letting Ray's aroma pass over her and wash away every logical ounce of her current mental capacity, she slowly found herself slipping into a kind of dreamy, dazed stupor. Settling into his neckfur, her ears went slack, her expression melted away and so did her train of thought. As the muscles loosened in her limbs, she found herself leaning on him more and more until she just about slid off. Kind of like when you fall asleep in class and find your head bobbing lower and lower until it rests on the desk.

Finally, Rena just had to succumb to the pull of sleep and weariness and nudged Ray in the side, just to let him know that she was going to lay down now. Suddenly too tired for an explanation, Rena crouched and then curled into a ball on the ground, burying her muzzle into the thick middle of Ray's tail, then turning her head and setting it on his haunches, looking up at him with big blue sleepy eyes. She wanted to curl up into a wad of warm wolf fluff and sleep away her tiredness. And what the lady wanted, the lady usually got. Now that the stress and fuss was gone, fatigue was setting in and she was going to lay down and take a nap, whether it made Ray uncomfortable or not.

Letting her eyelids droop, she grunted softly, drowsily, and nudged Ray's leg. He was tired too, and if he wanted to play false bravado, he wasn't going to be kidding anybody. As far as Rena was concerned, he needed a good long nap as much as she did, and this was probably the most convenient time for it.

(Things became kind of fuzzy for Ray, then. Not fuzzy as in referrence to wolf hair, but as in vision. He blinked a few timesand it started to clear up, but then it slowly and subtly faded back in again. He was more exhausted than he thought. If the moon were out, he'd have siphoned energy from it to keep awake, but it was daytime, so that wasn't going to work. He felt Rena kind of dozing too. Looks like today was a bit much for them both. He felt her nudge, getting his attention as she decided to sleep it off, as their bodies naturally proposed. At first, she laid on his tail, which felt odd, then she looked up at him for a moment before relaxing down again, nudging a leg as if to say, "You're not fooling anyone." She was right. He wasn't. With a slight smile, Ray then yawned and mumbled something to the effect of "Don't mind if I do..." Of course, if the lady was going to use him as a comforter, she could expect much of the same, as his somewhat larger lupine body seemed to curl around her form as he too dozed off. Ironically, with Rena curled up as she was and Ray around her, they looked very much like a cresent moon now. If Ray could see himself from a bird's eye view. He would laugh. But he wouldn't see it. He was sleeping in the den of a shewolf, and nothing could possibly be better than that.)

It was a little around dusk, in the period of twilight just before darkness sets in when Rena came out of the deep sleep she had dropped into. Thick wolfish eyelashes flutter once before a pair of sleepy gunmetal-gray eyes peek out at her surroundings. The post-sleep fogginess that made her feel slightly drunk began to slip away and her senses began returning to her.

There was something warm at her back.... something moving. Stiffening suddenly, Rena felt a rush of panic. Who? What? This was NOT normal. She hadn't slept next to anything alive since before she could remember. She got a flood of images running through her mind of dark and evil creatures waiting for her to wake up before they ripped her to shreds. It wasn't until after these images came to mind that she realized her entire body was rigid. Slowly, she relaxed her muscles, her breathing still spiked, but she tried to make it seem as if it was just a part of her sleep while she calmed and thought of a plan.

Now that she was fully awake, the scents of her surroundings began to register in her nose and she identified the thing at her back as a wolf. A big male. The familiar musky smell hung around her nose and she tried to place it, the gears in her mind begrudgingly beginning to turn. Of course, after all this panicking, only then did she start to remember where she was, who she was with, and what happened before she went to sleep. It was Ray. She was safe with Ray. Her eyes slowly began to take on a light, icy blue tint and the darkness of the gray began to bleed out into the tell-tale happier blueish shade.

Letting out a heavy sigh, Rena completely relaxed into the ground, feeling kind of stupid for getting all bent out of shape over nothing. Turning herself around in the ball of fluff she was already curled into, she stayed how she was, only now she was facing Ray, nose to tail. Stretching her neck out, she dropped her head gently onto Ray's back, just above his haunches, closing her eyes and scooting a little closer into the warmth of his fur. Instinct. This must be what it's like to have a pack. Sleeping in one den in a heap of furry bodies and not caring about anything but the warmth and the comforting smells and the feeling of safety. The visions of a pack full of wolves, twitching and wuffing in their sleep, all huddled into a pile came to mind and the edges of her mouth curved in a sleepy wolfish smile.

She wasn't really tired, but she found herself closing her eyes and soaking up the moment. This was certainly a first for her, and it was kind of a nice first. Waking up with a huge, fluffy, warm creature at your back who's as harmless to you as a teddy bear was something she found she enjoyed very much. In fact, it was something she figured she wouldn't mind getting used to. She suddenly found it very tempting to want to join Ray's pack. She'd never wanted to be anything but a loner before in her entire life. This was certainly something that needed reflecting on.

(The gray wolf that was Ray did not wake as Rena did. Nay, he slept as she stiffened, obviously lost to the world for the time being. This was actually not a bad thing, considering that Rena had - at first - not been sure what it was that was around her in the way Ray was. It was a feeling she had not been acquainted with, but became more accustomed to him being there. In the meantime, Ray dreamed...)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Thankfully, it was not of the moonlight ritual of blood performed by Min. He had been spared that one ever since Rish had given him a piece of mind, which involved bringing the horribly-sacrificed girl back as a spirit for a while. Now, however, he was running for the mountain in a different way, as if he felt that he wanted to... Yes, he was heading for the case now, the cave he knew to belong to THEM, to the sisters. Their cavern was an array of wonders, though all of it completely fake. Nothing like the Paradise he lived in at all. The two women, too beautiful to be real, spoke to him as they handed him his sword. He remembered their names. Circe and Calypso...)
"You may have it, noble wolf. It is a gift, from us to you. All we ask is a favor."
"Just give us your blood and your soul, and all shall be even."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Ray knew agitation in his sleep. Good dreams did not come easy to the those with a heavy conscience. Mistakes that he had made and other terrible things that he had allowed always seemed to plague him. Sometimes, he wished that he were not as responsible as he was. He supposed it was because of the belief his people held in their hearts about him. They believed the wolf was a sacred and noble creature, so a natural-born werewolf was something divine in their eye. So, just off in the back of his mind, Ray envied Rena her simpler lifestyle. The problem with leading, as he was, was that as long as you could, you had to. Drowsily, Ray stirred from sleep and found that he was currently occupied, then meaning of course that moving would mean to drop the lady's face to the floor. Not wise. He gave off a relaxed sigh and a chuckle, indicating his half-awakened state, as he knew Rena was also in. He muttered something like "Guess I'm stranded", and proceeded to playfully nuzzle onto Rena's side/back.)

Rena noticed that Ray wasn't as comfortable in his sleep than he should have been. Something about the way an uncomfortable dream will leave your muscles half tightened. Tell-tale... typical. It bothered her that he was having something of a bad dream, but having had numerous horrible dreams herself, she couldn't help but find it, since it didn't seem very stressful, at least a little entertaining. Snorting softly into Ray's fur, Rena couldn't help but smile at it. At least he wasn't chasing squirrels in his sleep. Now THAT would have been something.

When Ray finally began to stir, Rena opened one eye and gave him grin that was all fang. She was suddenly glad, especially with noticing how he was used to waking up next to other warm bodies, that he had not been conscious when she had first come-to. It was less embarrassing this way. By the time he let out a chuckle, Rena was fully awake and studying the way the fading light played off of his fur, the way her breath made the stiff guard hairs sway and tickle under her nose as she breathed. It was all so surreal. She'd never spent this much uninterrupted time with any one wolf, human, or anything in-between in her life. It had been from dawn until dusk, and he hadn't vanished yet.

At his comment, Rena's grin grew. A gesture that should have put the fear of God into anyone human, but something someone like Ray might appreciate for having an entirely different meaning. Her tail swept the ground behind her playfully and she shifted her weight from one paw to the other, as if getting herself ready to pounce.

“Better to be the one stranded, than to be the island itself!”

Mid-sentence, she was already springing onto Ray’s back, tackling him and burying her muzzle into the scruff on the back of his neck. Fake sinking her teeth into his nape, Rena let out a low growl, shaking her head lightly back and forth, mock worrying his hackles between a few very realistic snarls. She did, however, take extra care not to bite down too hard, considering the serrated edges on her fangs.

(It has often been said that careless phrases and poorly-chosen words can lead to catastrophe. For instance, when Rey absent-mindedly muttered the words "Guess I'm stranded", a freak wormhole opened up in the space-time continuum, carrying his phrase to a far galaxy in which two warring races were on trying to talk peace for the first time in a millenia. However, right as there was a pause in conversation, Ray's words drifted across the table of the two leaders and turned out to be the greatest insult ever spoken in their language. Because of this, the war continued until they slowly realized that neither one of their sides shouted the insult and went to locate the source of the phrase, which turned out to be Earth. They soared through the atmosphere at hyper-speeds, intent on levelling the planet, but made a dire mistake in calculations as to the size of their prey upon reaching the exact epicenter of the insult. Because of this, the entire armada was swallowed by a rather playful shewolf, who never noticed because they were all less than the size of a water molecule. Scientists everywhere have concluded that this is happening all the time. And now, back to the actual events in the cave, already in progress.)

“Better to be the one stranded, than to be the island itself!”

(Ray's playful actions were suddenly trumped by the leap from Rena, which he had had barely a warning from as she grinned at him. Then, she was on his back all of a sudden, playing with him and the back of his neck. He was heard to be laughing, because it felt funny, and to be 'begging' her to stop, though it was clear that there was no desire for this to happen from either party.)

Ray: No man...heh heh...is an island... Nor a wolf!

(With Rena off guard, Ray would suddenly flip, changing their positions. She would be the one on the ground while he was over her. No grand weight was place upon her in this action, but the act of pinning her down was definitely in mind. He larger size would be useful in this.)

Ray: You weren't on guard. That's so unlike you. Heh heh heh...

Ray's protesting commentary on her grip on the back of his neck was met only with a more vigorous shake of the scruff and an 'I can't believe you're being this much of a pansy' snarl. The only problem with this positioning and attack on Ray was the fact that her intentions were not to harm him. The second he started shifting around under her, she released his scruff and found herself on the ground with Ray hovering over top of her, giving her the cautious kind of treatment she had been giving him. No weight on her had really been applied. A pinning, yes, but the kind that's easily broken out of due to the caution of the pinner against the pin-ee. The ginger play that gives potentially dangerous activity a wide berth. Since when had she ever skirted around the potentially dangerous?

Wrapping her mouth around Ray's ankle, she bit down on it, sinking teeth into his fur and skin. A genuine nip that was bound to sting a little. Twisting underneath him, she wormed her way out from under him and tucked her butt close to the floor as she lunged towards the entrance of the den, flying out into the growing darkness.

Breaking into the evening air, she turned a sharp corner, vaulting up the steep incline that overhung the entrance to the den, crouching just above the cavern door. Dropping her forequarters, she waited for Ray to chase her out, butt in the air and a furry black tail making arcs over her back. Pinning her ears back, she crept closer to the edge, being careful not to make noise.

OOC: Leave my post alone, I just got my internet back. XP Sorry for the delay.

(The only answer he got to his playful little accusation was a nip in the leg as Rena worked her way out from under his pinning. It was only a minor distraction, really. Ray had had far worse tax his body than a light bite, and that included having a sword and arm through his whole stomach. Nevertheless, he regained a momentary loss of balance as Rena scooted out of her own lair. Grinning his wolfish grin, he followed...and found that she was out of sight. Little did he know that Rena was watching him from above. Ray took a whiff of the air to get his bearings on the shewolf. He found hers, but also found...another's.)

Ray: Say... This wouldn't happen to be... Oh, yes. Heh heh heh... I've been waiting for a chance like this.

(His grin became larger, eagerly anticipating a healthy bit of fun, an intriguing little game, in fact. For what he smelled, as far as he could tell, was a fox. And not just any fox. It was her. That damn kitsune... Sure, he'd let her off the hook on the issue of letting Min escape, but to endure her tricks and teases, which she initiated all for the sake of her own amusement, plus his abusement... It was aggravating to the extreme. The fox was not afraid of him, especially now that he had no reason to kill her. But Ray wanted to get even, despite the fact that he was a bit more limited than a Spirit Fox. But could she handle both him AND Rena? Ray wondered... Idly, he looked up at Rena now, calling up to her.)

Ray: Tell me, Rena... How are you for a little fox-hunt? There's a Spirit Fox in the area that needs to be put in its place.

Peering down at Ray as he emerged from the den with her nose in the dirt between her paws, Rena was a heartbeat away from pouncing. Just two steps further....

She watched as Ray took a sniff at the air. Scenting her out, was he? However, she tilted her head to one side when he smiled. What was he grinning about? She watched him intently, her own nose full of turf, and found herself growing more curious. What had he smelled? Drat... she'd waited too long. His eyes found hers and she managed a feeble wolfish smile, still in play-position and looking as stupid and winsome as a pup. Maybe looking cute and pretending like she hadn't been planning on jumping on his head would save her furry butt... Or maybe she'd just run for it? Distracted again... how embarrassing.

Ahhhh.... but Ray had other ideas. The mentioning of a hunt? A fox hunt... hey, anything to get her off the hook, right?

Unsheathing her claws (a gesture much like that of the hated feline species) and burying them into the ground for good leverage, Rena sprang from the overhanging. She landed several feet in front of Ray, showering his back and the top of his head with the clumps of dirt and grass she dislodged with her claws. She'd wheeled around on the bounce and crouched in front of Ray, all energy, grace, and motion. Okay, so they had their romp, now they got to have some serious fun. If her initial reaction wasn't encouragement enough, she nodded towards the thorny barricade and nudged him in the shoulder with her muzzle for good measure.

"Sounds like fun. After you!"

(That Rena had been over the cave's entrance to possibly surprise him with a pounce did not seem out of her nature to Ray. However, what he proposed now must've sounded like a bit more fun to her, because she soon leapt down, scattering bits of debris all over him as she swooped in from overhead, landing nearby. She seemed to be in the mood, which caused Ray to instantly feel more enthusiastic as she nudged him a few times. He felt the hunt swelling within him.)

"Sounds like fun. After you!"

Ray: This ought to be good. Your turn to get blind-sided, Rish.

(He took a quick sniff...and darted further into the forest, pursuing that familiar fox-smell. On top of his still-continued Noble Wolf form, Ray felt complete control of even his wildest instincts at this time. His other form - his lesser form - was far more prone to violence, and this one was more prone to being like him. But his desire to enter into this hunt with vicious intent made him wonder about the way his transformations worked. Was it because he was doing this for fun that kept his darker form in check?)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

(In another stretch of woods, the very spot in which Ray was heading, there sat what appeared to be a woman sitting on a tree stump, one leg hunched up and the other one hanging loose. She was dressed in a garb that was like that of a gray ninja, sans mask. She seemed to be of Caucasian-Oriental descent, with rough brown hair that came to terminate just past the neck. Anyone seeing her right now would see nothing wrong with this picture. She appeared to be nothing more than a meta-human concentrating on her powers. However, as she opened her eyes, it would be clear that something was just a tad bit off. Her eyes were bright green, and odd for some reason. Most people couldn't place why that was, but the answer happened to be the fact that they were a fox's eyes. Rish Govani, the Spirit Fox to be hunted, stood up as she smelled a familiar whiff of wolf-scent. It was carried by a very weak breeze, but she got it.)

Rish: So, he knows I'm here and he wants to play, does he? Well then, I'll be glad to... Wait a minute...

(Another hint of a scent. Rish became more suspicious. Ray had company, and it didn't smell like his clan, bringing up the rear. This shared a commonality, one that made the kitsune reconsider her course of action. It was a double-teaming, or seemed to be. Quickly, her body changed from normal to spirit energy to that of a three-tailed greyfox and tore off to figure out something to do while maintaining distance. If she'd stayed, they'd've been on her, unprepared, in seconds. And since Rish had learned not to underestimate Ray, she decided to take care around this issue.)
