A viscious sneeze trumpeted from near the falls, echoing through the clear, crisp day. "Damn cold." Despite being here for over a year now, Jerum was still unused to the cold temperatures of Earth. Even in summer, he wore the thick, heavy black long coat he'd been issued from the military in his time. There really was no winter on Balif. There was just a continual summer, hotter than the hottest days on Earth. And so, in winter, it was damn near unbearable. "I swear," grumbled the large man, nearly seven feet tall. "As soon as I get home, I'll tell them all about this. Ice is supposed to come in cubes." Another viscious sneeze. "How do they stand it?" he asked aloud, coming to the edge of the falls. |

A voice echoed through the place, it's melody sweet but yet bitter. A woman will long ice blue hair sat upon a boulder in front of the waterfall. Its icy water flowing behind the mermaid as she sang. Niether the snow nor cold water seemed to bother her as her fin lay in the water, lightly swaying against the waves. Even as she sang, tears fell from her face and hit the water turning into pearls. "Who are those little girls in pain? Just trapped in a castle on the dark side of the moon. Twelve of them shining in vain, Like flowers that blossom once in years. They're dancing in the shadows like whispers of love, Just dreaming of places where they're free as doves. They've never been allowed to love in this cursed cage, It's only a tale they believe." Her voice carried carried the sad melody causing a few ice cicles to humm lightly with the vibration. She didn't think anyone would we out in the weather, for she figured humans didn't like the cold. "They're dancing in the shadows like whispers of love, Just dreaming of places where they're free as doves. They've never been allowed to love in this cursed cage, It's only a tale they believe." Her eyes were closed as she held her hands in front of her as if she were praying. Long ice blue hair swaying against the wind as her voice sand to the sad melody. Across her chest was a sports bra that had dolphins on them. |

Jerum, with his keen hearing, heard the voice at the bottom of the falls. "What in the name of...?" Quicklyh, his bones creaking with the cold, Jerum came to the edge of the falls. Below, was a young woman...swimming? "Isn't she cold?" Jerum wondered aloud. He never went swimming. It was too cold, even in the summer. He turned the shower up as hot as he could during the winter, trying to warm his body back to life. "Insanity," he growled, as he began picking his way down. "She does sing beautifully though," he added thoughtfully, as he neared the bottom. |

Annalyn held hers hands to her chest as she continued to sing. After awhile her voice faded away along with a small breeze of cold air. The tempature didn't bother her one bit since she herself didn't contain one ounce of body heat, as a mermaid anyway. She leaned down and stared down at her reflection in the water, a few strands of hair falling over her shoulder. The mermaid reached out as if to touch it but only felt water. A small smile crossing her face, well, she wasn't getting any older in appearence. "Well, you not getty any older you fish." She said with a sad smile and laughed lightly to herself as she wiped a few tears from her face. |

Jerum's frown deepened, hearing her talking like that. And she seemed so sad. He couldn't help himself. "Are you alright?" he asked, now very near. "Do you need any-" He was cut off by another loud sneeze, which sent him from his position, some eight feet above the ground. In a cloud of white snow, he landed on his back, vanishing amid the white snow with a curse. He thought he saw something... a tail, but he wasn't sure. |

Annalyn blinked a few times as she heard a familiar voice and lifted her ocean blue eyes up. They went wide seeing white locks of hair before they vanished in snow. A few clumps of the substance landed in the water causing a few ripples of her reflection. She lifted a hand up over her eyes as if it would help her see further than she already could. The voice sounded very familiar and she had a name to go with it. "Jerum?" She called out as if to confirm her suspicion. Her right brow perked up a bit with curiousity. |

Another viscious sneeze, followed by an equally viscious curse, said in a language unknown on Earth at the time. The snow was deep, at least where he'd landed. A deep snow drift, some four feet in height, and Jerum had landed right in it. "Dall'imperatore, Fa freddo!" came a voice from the snow, followed by a hand gloved in black leather. The hand was covered in wet white snow, clinging to what seemed every orifice of the limb. The hand was soon followed by the rest ofthe body, equally covered in snow, from white hair to black long coat, down to the black boots covering his feet. "Hoe haat ik het weer van deze planeeten!" he growled, though it was loud enough for her to hear. He was facing away from her, dusting himself off. Though the drift was some three feet tall, the figure before he stoof nearly four feet taller than the drift did. "And to think I did it because of singing." At last, he turned about, to see just who he had heard. His left eye was robotic, red at the centre, looking directly at Annalyn. He didn't recognize her immediatley. First, she had no tail when he'd last seen her. Second, it had been a while, and he'd been through a few things since their last meeting. "...Annalyn?" |

Annalyn blinked a few times as the words of some unknown language reached her ears. She tilted her head to the side in puzzlement since she had never heard of it before. But knowing Jerum's background, she had no doubt that she wouldn't know it. Her ocean blue eyes staring at him as a smile crossed her face which was soon followed by a soft laugh. Both her hands circling around her stomach as she continued to laugh and bent forward. Ice blue hair falling over her shoulders. "HAHAHAHA!!!" She laughed, truly laughed as she lifted her head up to stared at him. A few tears slipping her face. Annalyn quickly gained controled of herself and wiped the tears from her face. "Haven't seen you in awhile. How waas your trip?" She smiled warmly. |

A wide grin split Jerum's features, and his good eye sparked to life, where usually it was cold and distant. It was her! He'd thought so origonally, but he hadn't been sure...It had been so long. "Annalyn!" he cheered, his voice full of glee at seeing a familiar face after so long. "There is so much tot ell," he told her, coming to the very edge of the falls. "Though...it resulted in failure, in the end. The machine was nothing more than a false rumor, spread by a cult wishing for some attention." He was referring, of course, to the undertaking he had gone on, lasting some months. He had gone off in persuit of a machine, a portal, which could take him home. He'd fought a band of half crazed heretics in the search, and one demon as well, right near the end, who had manifested itself through the head of the cult, a man named Belzor. "But, I suppose, I am glad to be back...despite the weather." |

Annalyn smiled as she moved from her rock to swim toward the shore or as far as she was allowed. She stopped at the very edge of tghe shore where the water was very shallow. Ocean blue eyes watching her old friend. Now, once she thought about it, Jerum was the first land walker she had come to trust. The first she was actually comfortable with. As she listned to his response, she nodded her head and felt sad that Jerum wasn't able to return to his world. Annalyn knew the feeling very well. "I'm sorry to hear that but don't give up hope!" She smiled and chuckled a bit as she watched him. A few locks of her hair falling over her shoulders as she laughed a bit remembering his fall. "If you ever make it back to your world, you must bring me with you. I'm quite curious on how it looks! The weather is great here!" She smiled. |

"I'll never stop trying," he assured her. With a grunt, he lowered his tall frame, so he sat on his haunches, so that he might be more levle with her . "If I found a way home, the first person I would bring would be you," he assured her, a small smile coming to his face. "It's warmer there, all the time, back on Balif." Balif had been where he was stationed at, for some ten years. It had been as much home as he could make it. "But there are planets we've settled, which aren't too different from the Earth of this time." The Earth during Jerum's time, though he didn't want to tell her, was very different than the one of today. It was all machines and smoke and armies moving out to distant planets. "I shall take you to one of those, so that you may enjoy your cold weather as much as you like...though I see no joy in it." |

Annalyn couldn't help but laugh at Jerum's dislike of the cold. The mermaid didn't have a problem with the cold since she was cold blooded in this form. Having heat was a luxury, at least that's what she thought. She was glad to hear that she would be the first person that Jerum would take if he got back to his world. A smile staying on her face as she watched him. To touch him now would probably make him feel even more cold than he already was. "Thank you, it really means alot to hear you say so. You know, I still remember that song you once sang to me. You know, about spring. Spriing it one of my favorite times of year. Please sing it to me once again." Annalyn said with a smile as she stared at him with ocean blue eyes. Her chin coming ot lay in the palms of her hands as her elbows lay on the land. His white her was so much like snow, almost like it was made of it too. |

"Spring is, you say?" Jerum asked her, his head quirking to the side. He'd enjoyed spring, too. Anything was preferable to fall and winter. "The song?" he asked her. "I'll try...The song was written in High English," he explained. High English was the language used from the time he came from, and sounded nothing like the English of the day. "But...I'll try and translate, as best as I can for you..." He cleared his throat, running his tongue over parched lips, then began. "De dag ist voorbij onze macht gaan. De kroonbladeren sluiten op de bloem, het licht verzuimt in dit uur Van de laatste afnemende adem van dag. De zwartheid van de nacht omringt, de afgelegene zielen. Van sterren nu vonden, Ver van de wereld waartot wij zijn grens, Van leed, angst en dood. Slaap, liefde; slaap voorgoed. Uw ziel de nacht zal bijhouden. Omhels de duisternis diep. Slaap, liefde; slaap voorgoed. " His voice was a deep bass, sounding like it came from depths unknown. "Roughly, it translates into this, I suppose." Again, he began, though going slower, working out the translation as he went. "The day is over, the night does come. The sun has set from the sky above, but the spring shall always remain in our hearts, until the last day. The Spring has come, the night is over, the petals bloom upon the flower. From the stars above we wonder, from where does the world find such beauty? "Sleep, my love, forever sleep, for the warmth of spring shall keep you safe, From cold night's biting hand, Sleep, my love, forever sleep..." Jerum cleared his throat again, and shuffled his feet self-consiously. "It dosen't rhyme, really, when you translate it," he rumbled, "but that is what it means, roughly." |

Annalyn smiled as she listned to him sing and closed her eyes for a bit. It wasn't the same song she had heard him sing once back at her place. Though it was talking about spring and it did have a nice sound to it. The language alone sounded very strange to her ears which made her smiled. The mermaid continued to listen after he translated it into english. When he was done, she lifted her hands together to clap smiling brightly. "That was very nice Jerum but that wasn't the song you sang to me in my home. Have you forgotten it? Allow me to remind you." Annalyn said with a smile as she hummned the bit of the first verse before actually speaking the words. Even as she began to sing them, the words sounded a bit funny but her voice made it sound as though it was her orignal tongue. "Heim ist alcher, ver ilmono Avanti, Und er zein molti sentieri pass zu passt Door schaduw naar de rand van nacht Finche le stelle sono tutto acceso. Alle werden verwelken Frauke sus mit ni gane..." Annalyn sang the first verse and awaited for Jerum to sing the rest of it. |

Jerum frowned. That wasn't the song? He rifled his mind, trying to remember which one he had sang. Then, she gave him the first stanze. You could see it in his eyes that he remembered it now! "Ah," he rumbled. "That song...Truley, it has been a long time, since I sang that..." With gusto, he went into the song. ."Heim ist alcher, ver ilmono Avanti, Und er zein molti sentieri pass zu passt Door schaduw naar de rand van nacht Finche le stelle sono tutto acceso. Alle werden verwelken Frauke sus mit ni gane Wie seht aus solar, ges volk gehst bech, Hun afstand voorbij zowel als ik, End a loro il nostro sould volera, Fra bedrelsekt osch Alle ver zein gane De droom, strijders, van duisternis boven, Ea sente il redemt dolce di nattene const og av hennes lighet Voor die binnen haar begrip Wer micht alles gane Mit en schaduw, de wolk en besch, Es solar, mot hitas veck mit kael, Welk osch ges hus natane nach finae Loro seht aus tutto acceso Alle werden verwelken." He looked back to Annalyn. He was certain this was the one she was talking about. Moving on, he translated. "Always before, the spring returned. The bright world in its cycle spun In air and flowers, grass and -fern, Assured and cradled by the sun. Those days are dead and gone Always before, you could explain The turning darkness of the earth, And how that dark embraced the rain, And gave the ferns and flowers birth. All I once knew is gone Already I forget those things, And how a vein of gold survives The mining of a thousand springs, The seasons of a thousand lives. That which I loved is gone Now winter is my memory, Now autumn, now the summer light- So every spring from now will be Another season into night. The light has faded, the shadows come..." Finishing, he grinned. "Better?" |

Annalyn smiled brightly as she watched him sing the rest of it. Her tail fin swaying back and forht behind her, causing a few waves. Ocean blue eyes watching him as she lightly hummed along with his words. Her chin in the palms of her hands as she closed her eyes to listened tot he song. When he was done singing, she laughed a bit and nodded her head. "Much!" Annalyn said with a smile as she wached him. Seeing him stand strained her neck a bit. "Why don't you sit down? It makes it easier for me to see you so." She beckoned with her hand. |

Jerum smiled, glad she liked the song so much. "It's awful cold down there," Jerum grumbled, "but, for you, I suppose I can stand it." Of course he was teasing. The cold, irritating though it was, was only a minor detriment, which seemed to melt away when he was with Annalyn. He wouldn't tell her, but she was one of the few people who he trusted around here. He made few friends, and kept to himself mostley. She was one of only a handful of people who had gotten past the cold exterior. Sinking down to his knees, Jerum gathered his long coat closer to himself, trying to keep warm. As he did, his eyes looked over Annalyn, taking in her tail. "This is the first time I've seen you, in your normal form," he commented, his eyes returning to her face. |

Annalyn smiled and stuck her tongue out teasingly as she watched him get to his knees. "I'm honoured. It gets lonely here I confess," Annalyn said with a small smile and laughed as she watched his eyes go to her tail. She moved it around a bit for his own enjoyment and got an idea. The mermaid hoisted herself onto land upon the snow and smiled. "Well get use to it, I'll be here until winter goes away. You can come and get a closer look if you want." She smiled. There were few people she would allow anyone to get close to her. Jerum was a friend, which was probably the first she had. |

"So..." he murmered, "Why are you staying here for the winter?" he asked her, coming closer, she she didn't need to come onto the land any more than was needed. "I mean, why not the lake, or somewhere in the ocean? You'd certandly have more space than here." Tenetivley, he reached out a gloved hand, uncertain weather or not she would let him feel. Instead, he set it on the ground, steadying himself on the slight incline. |

Annalyn smiled as she watched Jerum get closer. Her eyes went to the glove hand that looked as though it would touch but instead steadied itself. She shrugged her shoulders lightly as she heard his question. There were many reason why she didn't go tot he lake and there were tons of reasons why she didn't go to the ocean. That's for sure but Jerum wouldn't really understand why she didn't choose the ocean. "The ocean is too far away and I don't like hitch-hiking. The lake is too open and people go there more than they do here. The water fall has several hidden places that I can go into. Plus, I like how the water falls from Dragoon Mountain." Annalyn said with a smile as she watched him and leaned back on her hands a little. Her eyes shifting to Jerum as she smiled at him. "You can touch my fin if you want, who know, it might give you good luck." She smiled a bit and chuckled. Her fin was smooth and wet at all times. The only time you could feel the glimmering scales is if you brush your hand up rather than down. The end of the fin was like webbing and could stretch. |

Jerum nodded. Of course, it all made sense. "Then I shall have to visit you here," he told her. Despite the cold, he would definatley come and visit. Except, mabey, when a blizzard decided to come through. "Well, I am glad you are here, either way," he said to her. "I would come to miss you, if you went to the ocean." That, and he wasn't comphortable around large groups of unknown people. The lake was just such a place. The waterfall was truley the best place for her to be, if he wanted to see her. "You can touch my fin if you want, who know, it might give you good luck." Jerum, though he wouldn't admit it, was startled by the invitation. He hadn't touched the glossy fin, because he was worried she would be offended. Now, though, she was inviting him to. With one hand, he removed the glove covering the other, his right hand. The hand beneath was strong, with long, expressive fingers. A scar ran along the top of the hand, tracing over the index and ring finger. Reaching out, he ran his hand over the fin, marvelling at how slick and smooth it was. And the webbing. It was nearly translucent. He ran the tips of his fingers over it. "Marvelous," he murmered. It was truley the epitome of aqatic evolution. |

Annalyn smiled as she watched her friend removed the glove on his hand to touch her fin. The hand was very warm she noticed as a wave of dark blue shimmered down her tail at the sudden warmth. Her tail seemed to almost suck up that bit of warmth and caused goose bumps to crawl over her upper body. A small gust of wind blew by and sent a few locks of her ice blu hair to fall over her shoulders and face. Upon hearing the word that escaped his lips she smiled. "Thank you. You can be proud that you're the second person to ever touch me. I trust few," Annalyn said with a smile as she placed her hands at her sides and stared at him. His hair, she remembered commenting on when she had first met him while she was out grocery shopping. As white as a pearl but now, it was the color of the snow. "Can I touch your hair?" She smiled. |

"We are similar in that aspect," Jerum told her. He trusted few people in this world, still so very different than the one he had known. He watched, slightly fascinated, as his touch sent a wave of warmth through her lower body, changing color where he'd touched the fin. "Will you never cease to amaze me?" he asked her. When he'd first met her, she'd been as cold and distant as he had been. Eventually, though, they'd wamred up to each other, telling stories and tales, both legend and truth. It seemed she had more than enough of both. When she asked to touch his hair, he quirked a brow. "There's nothing special to it," he said. "But, yes, you may if you want." Withdrawing his hand, Jerum crept a few feet closer, so that she could easier reach his long hair. |

Annalyn smiled as she watched him scoot closer within her reach. Pale slender fingers reached out as she touched the white hair that reminded her of snow. She brushed her fingers through it and wrapped a few strands around her hand and brought it to her face. The mermaid was careful not ot touch him with her hands since she was a very cold creature in this form. When gaining legs, she could maintain body heat and produce it. His hair, she noted, was very soft like the silk humans sold in stores. "You hair feels so nice. My people grew their hair long and never cut it. Sometimes, landwalkers would confuse a merman for a mermaid. You would have lookd so gorgeous as a merman." Annalyn commented with a smile as she brushed her fngers through his hair a few more times before letting go. Her own hair went past her waist and ended a few inches above her knees. Ocean blue eyes watching him. "Jerum, can I ask you a question? You don't have to answer if you don't want to." She stared at him. |

Jerum shivered slightly when she touched his hair, feeling how close she was. "There are two kinds of cuts, during my time, it would seem," Jerum told her. "There is the kind, where you shave your head, so the enemy cannot get a grip...Then, there are those of us, who grow it longer...The scholar's cut, they call it, for our chronicolars often wear their hair longer." He leaned back, replacing his glove onto his hand. "Of course, wearing it longer isn't as functional...but, I could never imagine being bald." "Jerum, can I ask you a question? You don't have to answer if you don't want to." "Of course," he told her. "Ask me any question, and I'll answer if I can." |

Annalyn smiled and laughed a bit as she listened to him. The mermaid couldn't imagine him being bald either. "What dos it mean to love among landwalkers?" She questioned looking at him as she tilted her head to the side. A few locks of hair falling over her shoulder from the small action. Ocean blue eyes watching her companion as she twisted a lock of hair around her finger. The blue haired maiden was quite curious since others made it look so different from her kind. |

If she'd pulled out a bolt gun on him, Jerum woulddn't have been more surprised. He'd been going through the catalog of his brain, ready to spout off some part of the history during his time. Instead, she asked him what it meant, for humans to love. "Wow...erm," Jerum stuttered, trying to catch himself. "Well, love, I suppose, would have two different meanings, I guess...The first kind of love, is when you love people or material things, but not in a large sense..." He tried to think of a good example. "You see...I love my comrads in battle, like I love my gun. I'm glad they're there, but they are easily replaced." Not perfect, but it worked, he supposed. "Then, there is love, between two people..." He wanted to say they would be willing to die for one another, but he wasn't sure if that was true. He'd take a bullet for any of his brothers in arms...But it wasn't love. Still, it was part of love. "Love...means willing to go the extra mile for them. You feel an affection for them that goes far deeper than friendship or physical attraction. When you're in love...it seems like you forget all the negetive qualities a person has, but still realize those negetive qualities exist, but you don't care, because it's part of them. You feel...as one with them." He shrugged. "That's about the best I can explain it," he told her. "Why might you ask? It's not as though I've had huge experience in the field, Annalyn. Before I came here, my life was the military...If they'd wanted me to have a wife, they'd have issued me one." He grinned. "And, once I came here, there have been so few people I've gotten close to. You're one of only a handful of people I know, Annalyn." |

Annalyn listened to him and nodded her head. During her time here, she thought she knew what love was but it runed out to be wrong. Once he was done speaking, she pondered over his words. A sorrowful look coming to her eyes then as she thought of the time when she was betrayed. "What if a person betrays the person they love for another? That is bad right? It shouldn't be forgiven? When two people love each other, they should be loyal, right?" Annalyn question as she stared at him with sorrowful ocean blue eyes. They were they eyes of a mermaid princess who had been betrayed by a knight who said he loved her, only to turn around to stab her in the back/ "I thought I knew what love was once between two people." She said with a sad smile. |

"Absolutley!" Jerum said, surprised at the question she asked. "In all the history of humanity, love has been a sacred trust between the two. To break such a thing is...unforgivable." Jerum was shocked at the question, at how sad she had been when she gave her repli. His eyes looked to her, a bit of understanding dawning, showing in his good eye. He knew she'd been hurt by somebody she'd loved, though he knew not who. "So did we," Jerum murmered, thinking to a time, to him, long ago. To those of the present, it would be far into the future. "So did we, Annalyn..." |

She siled at him as a few tears lsipped her face. Quickly turning into pearls as soon as they touched the snow. "I thought I loved a land walker once. He told me he loved me. He said it so easily," A few more tears slipped her face as she stared at him with sorrowful eyes. Her shoulders shaking lightly as she suppressed the sudden urge to break down. "He knew what I was. It didn't seem to bother him...I saw him in the arms of another..." Tears started to flow from her eyes like a river. Both her hands covering her face then as she started to cry. "It made me think. 'Who would love w oman with a fin'? I was so naive!" She weeped. |

Jerum's hand clenched at his side. Annalyn was one of the few people he knew here, one of the few people he cared for here. She was one of the few people who cared for him. To see her hurt like this...It made him want to kill whoever it was who made her feel this way. "Annalyn," he murmered. Reaching out to her, he placed one long finger under her chin. "Don't cry...It's something I can't fight." Situations like this made him feel so helpless. Raised to war, he was uncomphortable with things he couldn't physically confront. |

Annalyn sobbed into her hands as her shoulders shook lightly. The mermaid used the palms of her hands to wipe the tears from her face. She stared into Jerum's face as he lifted her chin up. A few more tears falling down her face. Even whn she did cry, her nose didn't become red nor did her eyes get swollen. Her skin alone was just as cold as the ice she sat in. Annalyn laughed, that by itself was filled with sorrow. "I'm sorry Jerum. Please forgive me, I'm being so silly." Annalyn said as she continued to wipe away her tears. The mermaid scolded herself for being so selfish and for not considering Jerum's feelings. He didn't want to see some weeping creature in this cold weather. She did her best to cheer up as she put on a smile. "See, all better." She smiled doing her best to look happy. |

"No," Jerum rumbled. "Not all better." He slid his finger from under her chin. "Tell me what you're thinking," he asked her. "I know what it's like to be betrayed, by those closest to you...If you want, you can tell me anything you want. I'll keep it here," he tapped his head, "and here," his heart. |

"I'm fine really," She sniffled with a smile. She watched him and smiled. the mermaid knew she could tell him anything and wouldn't have to worry about him telling anyone else. Her ocean blue eyes stared at him. He was kind and she didn't want to burden him with her troubles. "I wouldn't want to burden you with my problems." She said with a small smile. The mermiad reached out to touch his warm hand even if hers was cold. Slowly, she lifted it to her face where she could feel the warmth that she lacked. "I can trust you Jerum. You are the only one I don't have to be scared of." She smiled. |

Jerum grinned at the irony in that. Back home, he was one of the most terrifying people in existance. As a Space Marine, he was one of the most powerful figures in humanity. It comphorted him, in an odd way, to know that she wasn't scared of him. "Hardly a burden," he told her, "if it helps you. I would count myself as privaleged, if you wanted to tell me, Annalyn." |

Annalyn smiled as she stared up at Jerum, despite his appearence that would have scared most people, the mermaid couldn't imagine fearing him. Maybe it was because she knew him as a friend and not as an enemy. When it came down to enemies, the mermaid would find herself beat. She couldn't fight worth her life. Sad really, she wasn't much of a violent person. Annalyn continued to hold his hand to her face. She closed her eyes for a few seconds before opening them again. "It's nothing really. Just a silly mermaid with a broekn heart, it happens everyday I'm sure. Though I can't really say it's when when it wasn't whole to start with." Annalyn sighed a bit as a few strands of her hair fell over her face. Her shoulders slumping lightly as if a weight had been lifted her from her shoulders. She allowed her eyes to waunder over the snow before they came to rest upon Jerum's face. "Do you know how that feels?" |

"I don't care about the other mermaids," he told her, his free hand rising to brush aside the loose strands of hair. "You're the one I know, and you're the one I care about." He could feel acutley her cool skin against his hand, even through the thick glove he wore. Still, he would not move it. "I know the feeling," he told her, "though not exactly in the same way you do..." |

Annalyn blinked a few times as she listened to him and smiled lightly. Ocean blue eyes staring down as she bent over a bit so a few more locks of hair felling over her shoulders. It was as if his words made everything better, made all those bad feeling go away. She held onto his hand with both of her own even as she bent forward, though it wouldn't cause him any pain. Most of her hair falling down her back and sides like a blue veil. "You can't imagine how much those words mean to me," Annayln said from her bent position. Her lower body bent as if she were on her knees. She would have liked to lay down and place her head on his lap but she didn't want to get him wet. "Can you tell me what kind of betrayel you went through? So it won' be so hard to tell my own betrayel?" |

"I'm glad I can help," Jerum rumbled, smiling, just a little. "Can you tell me what kind of betrayel you went through? So it won' be so hard to tell my own betrayel?" Jerum was quiet for a few moments, thinking, letting the words sink in. "If you'd like," he told her. "There are two parts to my betrayel, as it were...One, which, for me, was long ago...For you, it is yet to come." His eye looked far away, past Annalyn. "The first happened long before I was born, but is the cause of the second part...Our Emperor, the lord over mankind, and most powerful human to ever live, created the Space Marines. They were the most powerful hand of Man, keeping intruders and attackers from destroying us...If not for the Emperor, man would have dispersed into dozens of tiny kingdomes, across thousands of planets, eventually being wiped out. He had twelve sons, each powerful in their own right. Each was given command of a legion, one twelfth of the Space Marines. Each legion was twenty thousand strong..." Now, his hand began to shake, just a little. "Long ago...for me, at least, some ten thousand years, fully half the legions, 300,000 of the most powerful warriors in existance, turned to the forces of Chaos, of evil and slaughter." He cleared his throat, taking a moment toconinue. "A war began, one that lasted twenty years. They pushed us back, all the way to Earth. The Emperor, he stopped them, had to kill his own sons...But he was mortally wounded, was forced into life preserving machines...But, they escaped. The Chaos Marines escaped into the void, and have ever been our worst enemies...That's the first part." His tremors had stopped. "The second part concerns the first, but is closer to home, while I was alive...When I was young, they took me to become a Marine. I was privaleged ot be among the best...Until I found out one horrible truth...The planet of my home, had been invaded by the forces of Chaos. People who were once friends, now willingly served evil..." He shuddered slightly. "We had to destroy the whole planet...We had to kill them all...But, it didn't end there...I've seen friends, comrads in arms, those I loved as brothers...I'd seen them turn to Chaos, fight against us..." With quick tugs at his sleeve, he showed his forearm, where a long, thick scar was. "I recieved that from a man in my chapter...They removed the legions, changed them into chapters, containing 1,000 men, so that such an uprising could never happen again...I'd known him since I had first been recruited. His name was Karl Franz. I'd thought him one of the best...And he turned to them..." From his eye, something glimmered...It looked like Jerum as holding back tears now. "He was somebody I trusted, Annalyn. He was somebody I would have gladly died for. He was a brother to me, and he betrayed me, betrayed us, as though we meant nothing to him." Hastily, he rubbed his eyes, and was himself again. "Like I said...Not quite like yours, but the betrayel I fealt..." |

Annalyn blinked a few times as she listened to Jerum and slowly lifted her face up to look at him. Ocean blue eyes slightly wide as she stared at her companions face while he continued to speak. She lightly clutched his hand with both of her own as he told his story. Her story compared to Jerum's, was not that worse. Well, that's what she thought. Her own tale was so silly, it wasn't as horrible as Jerum's own betrayel. When she was sure he was done speaking, she blinked a few times staring at his face. "I'm so sorry Jerum. It was betrayel none the less." Annalyn spoke as she held his hand. She fell silent after that as she thought of how she could first start off by telling her own story. Her eyes staring at his chest, though the look in her eyes were far away. Annalyn straighted herself up a bit before she began to speak. A very defiant and angry look on her face. She shouldn't be moping like this when Jerum's own betrayel was much more worse than her own. "His name was Minoru, one of the students that go to AHS. I should have known better from the way he acted and talked..." She frowned as she placed Jerum's hand upon his lap. Her own hand wre clenching ino fists and she didn't want to risk hurting him with her nails. "He sure did fool me with his good boy act. They way he treated me, I was happy. We dated for what seemed like a month. I was out and I went to the underground where I would be working for some extra money...As I was there, I looked through the crowd as I sat next to the DJ. it was so suffocating in that place," She said wit a frown as she huged herself lightly. Her mind remembering how many land-walkers were there. Annalyn just figured out she was claustrophobic. "I saw someone that looked just like Minoru and a saw a female with him. A part of me thought 'There was no way that could be Minoru, no way he would be here with another girl...' " A trickle of blood could be seen escaping from her hands as her nails dung into her palms. Annalyn immagined that anger and pain she felt then when she saw them. "I got curious and followed the two. I stopped when they went into one of the backrooms were the supplies were. They hadn't bother to lock the door, I guess I was pretty quiet following them. Well, I listened with my ear against the door and Sure enough, that was Minoru's voice. I couldn't take it much longer and opened the door. The two seemed to have known each other for quite some time," She choked as she bit back tears. Her voice a bit shaky. "I was loyal, I had never been with another. Yet, there he was, smils and laughs with some other girl. He had her in her arms, kissing her. I'm sure it wasn't the first. From there, evrything went down hill." She said as she made a small gesture with her hands. Both her hands laying limply in the snow where it turned red. |
