The lights the sounds, the mass of people, there was money being spent at an alarming rate, a few minor skirmishes taking place over a favored item. It was clear to all that the holidays were fast approaching. It was also clear that perhaps she had picked a bad time to do her shopping, let alone invite Leon along, but it was too late now. She’d braved wars, fell through time and space itself, what was a few disgruntled old ladies and pushy parents with shopping carts? Digging through her purse, she pulled out a PDA and set to pulling up her shopping list, so to speak. Strange as it was Alex was becoming quite organized in her ways, and to see her carrying a purse was odd enough. Was hell freezing over? Not quite, but it might as well have. Quirking an eyebrow she gave the screen a once over before slipping back in her bag. Glancing around at all the people, she wondered where her partner in crime had gotten off to. Leon and Alex hadn’t exactly spent a lot of time together. It was mostly her fault, she was the one keeping her distance from him. No longer though, she’d set aside all her inhibitions and was making an effort to get to know him for who he truly was. Glancing down at her watch, she realized that perhaps she was a bit early. Looking back up at the crowd before her, she let the scene capture her attention and pull her mind away. The sounds were like some entrancing song. The yellow eyes she had held for so long leaked blue and green, the faint glow fighting against the artificial light of the bulbs above under dark eyelashes. Thoughts ventured back and forth, like a restless child in a fitful sleep. Why anyone would seek to destroy something that seemed so naturally beautiful was lost to her. The sound of a crying caught her attention and she turned to look at the baby in a stroller, he loose blond hair swaying behind her, clearly not liking her current situation. However, there was joy in that cry. Pulling her attention and gaze away, she crossed her arms over her chest and looked around for any sound or sight of Leon. Well if nothing else she had at least dressed appropriately. We’ll overlook the fact that her shirt was stolen, well not really, she just borrowed it from Diana’s closet. The white tunic top with the high collar did fit her nicely though and the gold embroidery set off her eyes, no matter what color they turned. Paired with a cropped burgundy jacket and a pair of low cut jeans and white sneakers, she was all set for a day of shopping. That is, if Leon didn’t get distracted and lose track of time. “Gotta love him though…” |

"You'd better..." The bubbly, energetic voice belonged to a young man whose tanned arms wrapped around the young girl softly from behind, pulling her in close into a warm embrace. Warmth and comforting simply poured off the young man, despite his loved one being gone currently. A wild smile on his face, he leaned over her shoulder and kissed her, humorously loudly, on the cheek. He knew he was terribly strong, and getting worse every day, but he pulled her in closer for a brief moment, soaking up every moment he had with his young great grandaughter. "I've missed you..." He paused and nuzzled her neck for a moment, stifling a laugh. "And I do believe this is the first time we'll be able to hang out with just us, eh?" His laughter quieted down a bit, but easily noticable in his eyes, and in every moment he made. His arms left her thin frame and he wound around her, smiling to her. He was clearly not dressed for winter; a sleeveless white T-shirt with a thin blue stripe over the chest, covered with an unzipped, light grey windbreaker. His legs had, what appeared to be white sleep pants on, silky even. Blue trim covered everything from the pants to the jacket in its subtle yet striking ways. Themes of purity and innocence simply radiated from his person, who's warm smile seemed to make the mall just a little bit brighter...just a little bit. "Going to help me find some presents for Diana and Fait?" There was a bittersweet taste on his tongue as her name slipped from his mouth. She had been gone for so long...she was only supposed to be gone for a week or so, right? It had been months, with no word...but he didn't give up hope. He -never- gave up hope. Diana could be waiting in his room when he got back, for all he knew; which would make it rather hard to hide christmas presents from her. He smirked a bit and looked around...he had some money on him now, but what to buy? Jewelery, maybe... "Girls like jewelery, right? ((Meh~ sorry for the shortness...^^;; But I liked it <_< )) |

((Leon is always adorable)) She never saw it coming. The warmth of a familiar embrace, the voice that rang like church bells, and the person that reminded her most of all how fortunate she was. If she had even considered harboring a negative thought then, it was quickly vanquished by that one simple action. Giggling she squirmed playfully in his arms like a small child. It was hard to believe the boy was so strong, but here she was, captive to his adoration. She was giggling still as he finally made the moves to face her. Looking at him the joy in her eyes was dancing in a sea of sunshine and gold. “I missed you too gramps.” Watching him was like viewing a child’s soul at play. Her keen eyes fixed on him like a hawk, all the while knowing and accepting that she would never shine so bright, not like him. Alex wouldn’t let that get to her though, she had grown too much and come too far to fall now. It wasn’t as if accepting her faults was such a horrible thing anyway. Smirking she nodded at his question, silently noting the one thing that struck her as odd. There was something off, something just not right, if it only existed for a split second. Alex swore that for the faintest moment she saw his whole mood change at the mention of Diana’s name. Taken aback by the sudden and brief falter in his normally cheery attitude she reminded herself that he didn’t know what had happened. It wasn’t Alex’s place to explain either, Diana would do it on her own terms when she returned, which wouldn’t be too long from now. Her own expressions never wavered, she wouldn’t let him know a thing. Smiling she nodded slowly at his question, being all the curious as to just what type of jewelry he might be referring to. “If by girls you mean Diana, then yes. Of course, she’d love anything that you give her.” The smile stayed, falling back in to the more comfortable nature of her features. Unlike Leon’s portrait of innocence, her look was one of knowledge, not the intellectual type but the worldly sort. It was one that knew how cruel life could truly be at times, and how precious moments like this were. They were especially cherished by someone like herself. Lacing her arm through his she chuckled lightly and tugged on him gently while blazing a trail through the mall. “So… Leon what’s your Christmas wish?” |

"Christmas wish?" A tune slowly entered his head and his heart, coupling his whirling thoughts, and making him think in rhythm. With their arms linked together, he let his other rest on it gently, and his soft fingertips patted the fabric of her sleeve, gently, slowly, in time and tune with his steps, and his Being. There was really only one thing he wanted. Wanted, and it seemed, couldn't have. If he weren't so insanely upbeat all the time, he may have even considered this little visit with his great-grandaughter a twisted form of torture. She and Alex looked -so- much alike...and here, Alex was even wearing her clothes, and picking up that ever-knowledgable smile her ancestor had, to him, perfected; a smile that warmed him up even more, from head to toe...but that wasn't her...and even through everything, even his love for Alex, he knew she was more closely tied with what was going on than he was. His head turned away from her and looked into a shop window as they passed, words flowing like weakened rivulets from his lips. "I just want to be with my family..." She would never see it, but those ever-spinning orbs of his stopped. Dead. Had he really gotten so attached? Back...no, not even home now. Back on Sekarion, with the others, things were so simple. No one would ever think of leaving the pack. Such a tight group, they all were. He had loved them, as friends, as family...but that didn't hold a candle to the young woman he had met shortly after arriving. The girl he would give anything for, without an instants hesitation. The one he would fight for, to the cold, bitter end, if given the chance, just for a smile, or reassuring glance. He had seen a lot since he had came here. One thing stuck out in his head now, a happy little wooden plaque he had seen on doors, and in stores. "Home is where the Heart is". Well, home, to him, wasn't a place...it was her. Nothing would ever run so deep as that passion he held for her. He loved her with everything he had, and ever would have; in every days most quiet need, and even as he tossed and turned in his cold, lonely bed at night. Home, To Leon...was Diana. But he smirked. And turned back to Alex, nothing like that weighing him down. He could think about her later, like he did every day. Right now, he would be with their great granddaughter. "I'm not much a material person...I don't need fancy gadgets or anything to make me happy." He paused, and his head lowered a bit, his fingertips off her arm, and gracing the edges of her locket. "Maybe, like, a bracelet...or something. Something I can look at every day, and just think of..." He smirked. " "The Person Who Gave It To Me"." His arm left hers, their link broken for an instant. But soon enough, it was draped over her, pulling her into a one-armed hug, and then he left it draped over her shoulder--not that it weighed more than a pound--and left it there. "I love you, Alex.." (( Well, at least that wasn't odd <_<;; )) |

Watching Leon while he thought was something of a spectacle for Alex. Maybe he didn’t mean it that way, but she certainly found his mannerisms and expression very entertaining if not curious. She wondered silently if he was always so expressive or if this was just her lucky day. No matter the answer to that quandary, she didn’t miss a beat in his movements until he turned his head. The breath she was inhaling caught sharp in her throat when she heard his answer, and it stung her internally to set it free. In truth, she had expected something like that, especially from him, but had been ill prepared to hear it forthright. Biting her lower lip lightly her eyebrows furrowed betraying any self-control she worked to maintain. Part of her wanted to drag him out of this mall and take him straight to Diana, if only to make things right, but it was too soon. She had strict orders to keep him away, coming from the white haired girl herself. She just didn’t want Leon seeing so beat up, and at the same time didn’t want him to worry. However, she knew that was a double-sided blade that cut no matter which way you held it. For a brief moment, Alex felt a twinge of anger towards Diana, but it died quickly. Alex opened her mouth to speak, but no words came, not a sound. Nodding once, she smiled despite herself, and the simple answer that seemed to stir emotions in both of them. She had to be the strong one here, that was her role and she’d play it truthful to the end. Titling her head slightly she let, no manifested, a giggle through her lips as Leon turned to look at her once more. Listening to him her eyes shot down to her locket when he touched it, reminding her exactly what it stood for and how it made her feel every time it touched her skin, or when she looked at it. If Leon wanted something that would to him what this little locket meat to her, then she’d be sure to find it for him and she had just the place to obtain such an object, but he would never know. Smirking as he removed his arm and wrapped it around her, she felt more at ease now then, she had in a long time, since first arriving here. Her cheerful expression faltered again. Taking on a more serious yet sincere and gentle look she blinked and gave the space for a few seconds to pass before she responded. “I love you too Leon, you and Diana are all the family I’ve got now.” Her words barely lifted above the wish of a whisper. Shifting, she smiled brightly and patted the hand at her shoulder lightly, reassuringly. “No more worries Gramps, you’ll see her again, maybe sooner then you think.” She gave him that all knowing look, Alex was up to something. Maybe it was sneaky and underhanded but that was just the game she was playing now, serious as it was. Steering them in the direction of a jewelry store she wanted to get down to the nitty gritty of shopping. After all, Alex was a busy girl, and she had work to do on all aspects of the spectrum. Pulling away from him, she didn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea. Last thing she wanted to her was a salesperson stating how much of a cute couple they made. Alex might actually find a means to be disgusted, nothing against Leon of course, but for crying out loud, he was her great grandfather. Leaning over a display case, she looked down critically at all the shiny objects of metal and precious stones. “So, you mentioned jewelry… any idea what you were looking for?” |

“No more worries Gramps, you’ll see her again, maybe sooner then you think.” Something about that statement…the words. The tone in her voice. That glint in her eyes that let him know she was hiding…something. Leon was a pure soul, he really was. Good as any person…but he did have his limits. Time on Earth had not only shaken him out of apathy, shown him cruelty and ill intent, but opened his eyes, and let him see that the ones that could hurt you the most, were the ones you held closest to your heart. Probably because you let them in farthest. Let your defenses down around them…told them your fears, your weaknesses…and in that, they could strike you down where it hurt the most, and cripple you beyond comparison. But he didn’t let his thoughts show, not in his face, nor his eyes. The least he could do was try and be happy as he searched for a gift. And he was happy, actually…somewhere in his heart, he knew that the person whom he was buying gifts for would get them eventually…that he’d see her again. In all actuality, he was a bit glad for it once Alex pulled away from him. Recent thoughts hadn’t put him in the greatest touchy-feely mood. As she leaned over a display case, he slipped away, silently, and went off on his own. He left her question hanging in the air, as he explored on his own. And she stayed alone, for just a minute or two. Leon came walking back in casually, plastic smile and all, with a small brown paper bag in his hand; Diana’s presents. Of course, they would need a bit of work first, but they were there…as gently as he could, his hand laid itself upon her back, and he led her out of the store…after she was done, of course. He wasn’t completely rude. But the mall was getting more crowded by the minute, it seemed. People were swarming around in all directions, and he stopped himself and Alex in the middle of the hall, as people rushed about on both sides of them. His hand left her, and he turned to face her, his head leaned down just a bit, making it look as if his eyes were narrowed. He couldn’t take it anymore…the burning desire had gotten the better of him…and he simply had to know. “Alex…tell me…” His voice grew stern, serious, and his eyes stopped again. It could be felt in the very air that he was not a person to lie to at the moment…and a good chance he’d know if it happened. “And be honest.” There was a beat. “You know where Diana is, don’t you? And you were keeping it from me…” His hand gripped the bag just the slightest bit tighter, making the paper crinkle. “Doesn’t she want me to be there, with her..?” His tone, now, was still stern, but held within it, traces of pleading. He needed this…needed to know the gods honest truth. He was mentally on the verge as it was…but he braced himself for her answers, however harsh they may be. |

Silly Alex never thought twice before speaking. People said things of that nature all the time, but in this one instance, they actually had meaning. Going beyond the simple effort to cheer him up, she was in a way trying to relay a message. It was now that she wondered how she managed to find herself in the middle. What a combination they made. Alex was everything but the innocence Leon portrayed. Tarnished, marked, she’d spend her life making up for and trying to atone for her sins, whether they were conducted out of love, hate, or duty. Shaking her head the thoughts detoured for a while from the effort she took to free herself of the negative feelings. As her eyes wandered over the case, she realized there wasn’t anything of much interest in it. Maybe Alex was losing the feminine aspect of liking things that were shiny. It was either that, or the fact she couldn’t pull herself away completely from recent events. It didn’t matter, because someone had to smile and keep their head up. She didn’t notice him leave, she also didn’t buy anything. What she was looking for wouldn’t be found in this store. When Leon came back and placed a hand on her back, she jumped slightly, not noticing that he even left. He should have known better than to fake it around her. Alex was observant enough to know a fake smile from the real one, especially on him. His face just never lit up the same way. His question came like a sledgehammer, hard and cold, but Alex held firm. Her voice carried seriousness when she spoke, along with a delicate underlying sense of sorrow. “I do, and I was keeping it from you, only because she told me to.” There was a deep sigh then, different from the usual. Alex looked at him differently then too. She would possibly never be as honest with anyone as she was about to be with him, but sometimes, honesty hurt yet he needed to hear everything. “Leon, she doesn’t want you, me, or anyone else there. What she hopes to accomplish will only work if she goes at it alone, it took me some time to accept that. Diana said that she needed to find herself, and that if you ever found out, you might hate her for not calling on you, but…” Alex bit the inside of her bottom lip hard enough to draw blood, the metallic taste leaked on to her tongue slowly, but she refused to cry in front of him. If he was going to get angry then so be it, but she didn’t know if he was ready to hear what she had to say. Wrapping her arms around herself, she felt strangely cold on the inside. “…it was the only way she’d ever be able to make sure that you were getting everything she had to offer. She’s tired of holding back, not allowing herself to feel. If that meant doing it all alone, then the short time it would take was worth it if it meant making you happy for the rest of your life.” Alex reached both hands up and massaged her temples. It was as if she could still feel remnants of Diana’s mind in her and it added an odd assortment of feelings, leaving her half-warm half-cold, on the verge of being numb. She nearly broke her calm resolve as she sighed, gathering up what little self-control she was awarded and looked Leon straight in the eyes. Her eyes mirrored his for a moment, then the jade flashed yellow tourmaline. Her tongue clicked the roof of her mouth and she shook her head indignantly at him. “I wish it had been you Leon. I wish you were the one that had felt the things I did, and saw what I saw when I was in Diana’s mind, maybe you wouldn’t be acting this way. Never in my life have I ever, ever felt such a thing. She loves you so much, and she’s laying it all on the line just so she can give you only the best. I’d kill for a love like that in my life. You have every right to be angry, but if you’re going to be angry, then be angry at the person that put her in this position.” Her voice had risen considerably and the tears crept from the corners of her eyes, angry and bitter that he would act in such a way. Alex was actually mad, not that she hated him, but she hated being in between them. No one ever seemed to take in to consideration that maybe it hurt her to be here and do the things she had to do and say what she had to say. If he was so ready to hear the truth she’d told him everything, but she wasn’t sure he wanted to know what she’d say next. “Sometimes our greatest challenges have to be faced alone, even if it means hurting the ones closest to us in the process. It’s all for you Leon, everything, the pain, the stress, knowing that’s she taking the biggest risk of her life, all for you.” She let that thought sink in, giving herself a chance to calm down and she did, slowly. Her heart was pounding, and her throat felt tight, as if she couldn’t breathe, but she had one more thing to say. “Just… don’t lose faith in her love Leon because right now that’s the only thing keeping her alive.” |

(( I know it took a while...hopefully the quality makes up for it
<_< )) Those normally warm, soothing eyes had hardened into shards of the bitterest ice, flashing violently in the synthetic light as he bore into Alex. No one could ever know just how deep, how utterly passionate his feelings for Diana were. There weren’t even words to starts describing that burning wildfire in his heart. But Alex was the bearer of bad news, and enough gallons of ice-water to put him out for good. He gulped once, hard, as she started talking, letting everything sink in. As much as he hated it, this acrid, double edged sword was cutting right to his soul; but he needed more…desperately. “I do, and I was keeping it from you, only because she told me to.” That much, he had expected…of course Diana would keep things from him. She always had her little secrets; only let him in so far. But Alex kept talking. Kept ripping him apart the way only someone he loved could. One thing was clear, though. After everything they had been through together, after every detail of their once-thought blissful lives~…she didn’t want him around. She didn’t want anyone. It wasn’t all that surprising, and Leon even smirked sadly. She was always cold…independent. Even with him. So what did she do? She broke her promise, and broke his heart. He was always the fool, wasn’t he? Of course he was…thinking that she would have meant what she said. She didn’t need him. Neither did Alex. He was like a tacky accessory; fun to play with one minute, then shoved right back to the sidelines, as they went about their business. But always happy. Always chipper. For them. Waiting until they could finish what they had to do that was more important than him, and play with the loyal cling-on once more. “she needed to find herself, and that if you ever found out, you might hate her for not calling on you, but…” Heh’, so that was it? She thought he might hate her? He could never hate her. Not his darling girl. Not the young woman who he gave everything he could for. Time, energy, every ounce of love he could muster and more. For what? To get the door slammed in his face. Because she wanted to be alone. Maybe his happiness had been based on lies all along. That six months of slow decay from when she left was coming to a bitter, violent end. Those months had gone by like years. Years without her. She was with him everyday, somehow. He could still smell her in his room, on his sheets and pillow. See her in the photographs, the ghost in the picture, covered in dust, a single streak free, over her face. Waiting to see her again, hear those eight letters slip from those lips, that tied him to this world. He watched as she wrapped around herself. Part of him wanted to reach out, hold her, comfort her…but his body was too weak. He could barely stand as it was. But he did, unmoving, and listened, soaking up every single acidic word that slipped from her tongue. “…it was the only way she’d ever be able to make sure that you were getting everything she had to offer. She’s tired of holding back, not allowing herself to feel. If that meant doing it all alone, then the short time it would take was worth it if it meant making you happy for the rest of your life.” They weren’t happy already? Was everything she’d ever told him a lie? He wasn’t even sure. She got hard to hear after that; his heart pounding like thunder in his chest, throbbing in his ears, as his eyes glazed over. He was trapped in his own mind, that fleshy prison, as true reality burned at the seams away from him. There was no sense to this. Just another tragic case, leaving a bad taste in his mouth. He wanted to throw up, but his throat was so tight he could hardly breath. His heard felt like a sledgehammer, trying to break free, and spill what remained of his love in crimson on the floor. He was living for her, and had lost her, all at the same time. It was like any bad thing that ever happened to him, any time he had been used and abused, for his kind, laid back, helpful nature, ripped itself a new scar in his soul. But she didn’t stop. Would she ever? “She loves you so much, and she’s laying it all on the line just so she can give you only the best.” Hadn’t they had the best? No, of course not. It was never enough for her. She was the perfectionist. There had to be a flaw. That was why she left, right? She’d left because of him…that had to be it. What had he done wrong? His mind strained hard, trying to go over everything they had ever done together. He had never, not once, -ever- done her wrong. He gave her all he could and more, whether it was a heart to heart talk, or just goofing off over breakfast. But that wasn’t enough. Oh no, not for Diana. Of course not. She had her own life to live. Just because Leon put everything aside whenever she was around, didn’t mean the favor was returned. Even when she was with him, she was never really there. In her own thoughts, no doubt. Planning her oh so busy life, and when she could rid herself of his nuisance once more. Alex had started crying…he could feel her emotions. Angry at him. What had he done to them? He had given them both as much as he could. Gave, and gave, until his heart collapsed, stepped on and ground into the dirt. “all for you…Just… don’t lose faith in her love Leon because right now that’s the only thing keeping her alive.” Yeah. Like that was ever the case with Diana. She didn’t need him. Cold and distant; always was. Knowing her had now not only become a blessing, but a curse. He had put to must trust in someone…both of them. And now this. It was his last straw…their past together drown in his mind, sinking deeper and deeper; mirrored by that fire in his eyes. Sinking down into the abyss, like a ship gone down with the lanterns lit. He was crushed, completely. Devastated wouldn’t hold a candle to the intense swirl of passion he now held in his jaded heart. His only sign of breaking, besides his entire body, was that of a single, crystal tear, leaked out the side of his right eye. He couldn’t stay here…not with her. It hurt too much. His mouth opened, but a barely audible sound squeaked itself out, terribly strained, before he gave up, deciding on breathing rather than talking. You could see it in his eyes though. He was practically dead. His world shattered around him, leaving him with nothing but a locket on a chain, and a string of lies and broken promises. Another tear streamed out quickly and he turned from Alex, forcing himself into the crowd… And into a portal… And out of their hair, for good. |
