Kenshin sat down on the hard floor of the drom room. "So this is what these rooms look like?" He said to Siru. Kenshin had never actually been in his room before, but he'd heard he was supposed to go there, so far he had been sleeping outside. Kenshin dismissed his happy atitude at the thought of why he was here. "So you are being honest when you say you cannot leave the grounds?" Kenshin said, his tone grave. |

Siru walked in behind Kenshin, annoyed that he had been sidled with the highest of all the dorm rooms to stay in. He shouldn't have been walking, but he had moved so much already that it didn't really matter to him anymore. He looked around around and then sat down, noticing that the room was pretty bare, mostly his own fault. He turned to Kenshin at the question and nodded, saying, "Ya, I really wouldn't have a reason to lie about that. My parents wanted me to focus, so as to increase my proficiency with magic, so they put a curse on me, and I can't leave the school grounds, even during holidays and stuff like that. Me trying would be like walking in to an barrier, and if I tried to go past it, it would throw me back. I had one on me earlier in life when I was trying to explore things, and my parents wanted to set boundaries I'm not sure if it is a test or something, but I haven't been studying curse breaking specifically anyway... I am just going to wait until my studies reach that point, and then try to break it, though that might be a while." He sighed, sitting down on the floor, thinking about how his studies had been progressing. Other than a few books read, he hadn't done much in the way of progress. That was probably what his parents were scared of, the lack of discipline. He sgihed again, realising that he had been slipping, a lot, lately. He turned back to Kenshin and asked, "Why do you ask?" |

Kenshin felt rathr strange telling someone he barely knew something he had not even dared to whisper to the darkness. His mind's eye was on a bright clear sun rise on a normal morning in december. "I know this may sound strange but..." Kenshin paused, seemingly trying to think. "I think you should hear my story before I answer your question. When I was nine years old my mother died. That in itself is not so important, but what is important is how. I came home one night from a friends house, she didn't seem to be home, I called and called, but she didn't answer. My father arrived home soon after I did and we both began to look for her. After searching most of the house we decided to look in the basement. It was dark, we hadn't been down there in a long time. We walked down the bare wooden steps to the concrete floor below and the light flickered and turned on. And in that instant, my life seemed to fall into shadow, I was horrified, there sitting hunched on the floor was the dead body of my mother. A pool of blood lay at her side and knife wounds were all over her body. The police never found who killed her, mostly because they didn't try all that hard, we were poor and they didn't care about our family. Then the day of the funeral came and my friend, Michi who had been offered to attend pulled my over by a tree. He told me about a boy who lived in the deepest part of downtown Tokyo in the slums, he told me that this boys father was a very terrible man, who led a gang of thugs. The boy was apparently offering me some information about my mother, he knew just about everything that happened in the city and most of the time who did it. I walked into the broken down shack where he was said to live and found him talking in the corner, who he was talking to I didn't dare to ask, but I did ask him about my mother's death, he told me about a great and terrible man, who lead a crime organization centered only a few blocks from my house. The boy told me where one of the gang's thugs lived, who might be able to help me. I went to see him and he told me that my father was involved with their organization, he owed them alot of money, this wasn't surprising, we were very poor and didn't have enough money to get by, so it wasn't surprising my father would go anywhere to get more. But lastly, the man told me where their leader hid. I have not yet dared to go to see him, but in light of recent events, I believe it is time. what I need most is help, I can't do this by myself and I need someone to help me get revenge for what he did." Kenshin's last words were sad but angry, like he almost feared to speak them. |

Siru listened through it, not knowing what to say really. He wanted to help Kenshin, but he didn't even know if he could be of any assistance at all. He couldn't even leave the school grounds, and it might be a while before he even was able to learn how to break curses. And his magic was time consuming, so he wasn't even sure he could use it in a REALLY neccessary situation. He closed his eyes, sighing as he said, "Kenshin... I... really wish I could help... You helped me that time in the meadow.... But, the thing is, I am still in training, and am not even qualified as a battle wizard yet, let alone experienced enough to help. Plus... I don't think I could kill anyone... I mean, look back at the meadow and the arena... I got my butt kicked and nearly got myself killed, both times... And my powers.... I don't really see how I could help... I wish I could... But I don't know.... Maybe if I had some time.... I don't know though....." He was really feeling inadequate at that point in time. He had neglected his training so far, and it was already a week in to school. He could try and make excuses, but that just wouldn't cut. Now he understood what his parents meant by that a wizard never truly knew what was coming at them until the last minute, and to always be prepared. And to top it all off, he was not in the best of conditions at the moment, still healing from two major attacks on him. 'How am I supposed to become a magister magi... when I can't even keep myself in good enough shape to tackle something like this? Hell, even if I do try and get a ministrel, that would just be covering up the fact that I can't do it on my own....,' he thought, really wishing that he could somehow help Kenshin out. |

Kenshin smiled. "Doesn't know his own strength." Kenshin thought. "It's been many... many years since I've felt this kind of presence, such power, but he can't use it." "Don't worry, I'm in no hurry, bt the time you're needed, you'll be ready, I have something I must do first." Kenshin's sad eyes looked towards the boy in front of him. He knew what he needed to do, but the answer to how had not yet presented itself. |

"Really? I'll try then.... I'll try to get stronger so that I can help you out, and repay you for saving me life. I have a lot of spells that I am hoping to learn as my magical proficiency increases, and I am sure a few will be of great help to you, well at least I hope. I know that I'm not all that impressive yet, but I just need to finish learning my spells, and learning how to use them correctly," he said, raising his hand in to a fist, signalling that he really meant what he said. And he did. Becomming a magister was what he lived for, and to do that, he had to become at least a semi-decent wizard. His parents had gived him so much so far, and it was up to him to finish the rest. |

Kenshin looked Siru in the eye and remembered that day in the meadow. "Thanks." Kenshin thought about what he was planning to do. "Have you ever lost anyone you loved, Siru?" Kenshin thought about that fateful day when he realized his mother wasn't coming back. He thought about how that effected him. "I wonder weather it was for better or worse." Kenshin thought. "It gave me strength, but took my hope. Which is more? Strength or hope? Mayebe that's why Siru is injured, too much strength for what hope I have." |

"Hmm? Have I ever lost someone I loved? I dunno," he said, truthfully, stretching out his arms in the sitting position. He yawned, staring up at the cieling, thinking on it for a bit. "I'm an orphan, so I don't know if the reason I was orphaned was because my parents died or because I lost them or my family or something. But, for all I know, I haven't lost anyone precious to me. Nor do I plan to. Why do you think I am so adamant about training and becomming stronger? I don't believe in letting other people die while I can do something, so since I can actually do something, I will," he finished, stretching out again. It didn't matter to him if people didn't like it, because he did it only because it made him feel like he was doing the right thing. He had no direction in life, no real set goal, other than that, so he didn' find any use in countering it with some logic. He would sacrifice his own life in an instant to save another, just because he really didn't have anything to live for all that much, other than to save the lives of others. |

"You've got a good heart, Siru. I just hope you have the will to back it up." Kenshin looked around the room. "You got anything to eat around here?" Kenshin sat down on a nearby chair. Kenshin was getting quite hungry, although he ahd just ate a little while ago. |

Siru looked around, trying to remember if he actually did have anything that was slightly edible around the room. He didn't use it much past his own room, so he didn't know whether it had a kitchen area or not. He mentally chided himself for the lack of logic that he had just had, realizing that if he didn't know if there was a kitchen, then there wouldn't be any food in there. He thought back, trying to remember, then suddenly remembered what he had for snacks. He got up, wincing a bit as he did, and said, "Ya, I do. I'll be right back." He moved in to his room, looking around for a small leather bag, until his eyes finally settled on it. He picked it up and opened it, looking at its contents, a large amount of small strips that sort of resembled beef jerky, except paper thin and a greenish color. He smiled and picked one of the strips out and plucked it in to his mouth before leaving the room. He walked outside and tossed the bag to Kenshin before sitting down again, a smile on his face. Moving the strip to the side of his mouth, he said, "I'm not telling you what it is, but it isn't all that bad. A tad bit of an acquired taste, but it keeps hunger down. Try a piece." He didn't want to say what it was because most people rejected the idea of eating it face down. But, it did keep well for years, and was a great snack, and extremely healthy too. |

OOC: did Siru change hands? Your posts seem different Kenshin took a piece of the strange substance, he was used to odd foods. "So, Siru, what do you like to do for fun?" Kenshin was mostly just trying to make conversation, as there was nothing much interesting going on at the current time. "Do you do models? sports... assassinations? anything interesting?" |

(Change hands? No, it's the same me. I just am evolving as I write more I guess. It depends more on my mood as well.) Siru plopped down on to the ground again with a groan, placing the small leather bag off to the side, in case he got hungry later on. He was still sore, but it seemed as if the major pain was gone, only coming up when he was stupid enough to move. Which at that point, he was sure would be reduced to a minimum. Kenshin's question was an easy one, since the answer was so short. "Read, train or just walk around and relax. I never really got in to hobbies all that much, mostly because of the environment I was in. I have pretty much been stuck to my school life as my entire life, helped by the fact that the same curse that effects me now was put on me when I went to school in England as well. So, I wasn't really brought up well rounded in the social aspect. I don't mind though, I have stuff I'm good at, and that's all that matters to me." "So, what about you? Make models? Kill people?" he asked, the last one being on a teasing note. He just was playing around with Kenshin at the same time as asking him was he did for fun. By the looks of it, he was one who trained for fun as well, but his hobbies were something that Siru couldn't guess at. Mostly because he really didn't know Kenshin all that well. But, he had to say, he was impressed that their relationship had started backwards. Him learning of Kenshin's past and motivations before learning even about him as a friend. 'Well, what works for him works for me I guess,' he thought, smiling at the thought. Any hostilites from before had been erased, just because he had a friend now, which really was something different for him. |

Kenshin realized well that the boy was joking with his last comment, but answered honestly all the same. "I used to... kill people that is. But it really wasn't a hobby, it was something that needed to be done." Kenshin shifted rather uncomfortably, he didn't generally discuss that with others. "But I like bonzai, and martial arts especially." Kenshin wondered why he ad admitted what he did, it wasn't something you would usually include in your everyday conversations. He wondered how Siru would react tot his comment. He trusted that siru wouldn't go too berserk though, he was a good person, understanding. Kenshin thought about why he ever started that terrible trade in this first place. "It was something that needed to be done." Kenshin thought. "They were going to hunt me down. That's something we both knew." When he said "both" He was refering to his friend Michi back in Tokyo. |

Siru sighed, realizing that by his gentle teasing, he had literally asked for it. Though, he hadn't expected Kenshin to take it seriously, though now he saw how stupid that was. He hadn't meant to upset Kenshin or force him to dig up those parts of his past. Siru sighed, saying, "Well, if you did it to save yourself, I can understand. Well, not really, but I am not going to judge you for it. I probably would have done the same thing in your shoes. I don't know if I would kill, but in the end, you don't really know what you will do under pressure. I guess.... Don't take what I said before to heart. If you need to do it to keep yourself alive, then do it by all means. I was just being stupid, that's all....." Though he had seemingly put it all behind him, it was still hard for him to fully give up on the fact of what he had said before. He sighed, asking, "So, where is your dorm? Near mine?" |

Kenshin sighed. "It was out of vengence, and fear. But we shouldn't speak about it anymore. I'm not too sure how to get to my room from here, I haven't been there much, honestly, I've been sleeping outside, until the janators yell at me." Kenshin felt some remorse for his actions so long ago, but his reasons were correct. But, all the same, he was fearful, and that was what drove him to do it. |

Siru quickly looked up, a concerned look on his face. "You have been sleeping in the halls? Why? Didn't you pick up your key when you got here? It doesn't matter, come on. We can go get your room number right now, and an extra key if you lost your original one. No friend of mine is sleeping in the hallway!" He sighed, getting up quickly. He wasn't joking either. He didn't care if Kenshin wanted to put up a fight about it, he was dead set on making sure that he didn't have to sleep in the hallway. It just didn't seem right at all to him. And the fact that Kenshin talked so calmly about it, and didn't even think to find out his room number sort of gave Siru a mini-headache. He walked towards the door, half limping almost, and looked back at Kenshin, asking, "You coming or not? You can stay here if you want, I won't be long. I know where it is pretty well by now." |

Kenshin looked calmly at the boy, this didn't surprise him or change his expression or thoughts in the least. "No, no, not the halls, somewhere near the meadow is what I was refering to." Kenshin's expression was somewhat bored, like this was the most common and usual thing in the world. Kenshin got up and began to follow the boy, if he wanted to show Kenshin where his room was, let him. |
