Quilyn shoved his weight against the heavy, double doors to the caffeteria. He had smelled the place clear across the campus, reeking of greasy chicken and some sort of mystery meat. Well, maybe he had imagined it mostly, drawn to this place by hunger more than direction. Situated past the wide courtyard where plenty of trees stood, and away from the different dormitory buildings, it had been quite the diversion from his trek to the main office to request his room number. Still, food was here, and he was one hungry pup. Tucking the thin pole through the armstraps of his backpack, Quilyn ducked under the various students to the back of the line. One of those generic plastic trays would do, he decided, reaching out for a greasy red one. The touch sent a shiver up his spine from the filth. They had clearly just dipped the thing in soapy water and stuck it back on the pile at the start of the line. No antique silver with decorative swirls at the edges like the type he used when he was sick in bed at home, but a cheap hundred-time used little thing with no aspirations beyond holding a cup of peaches and a carton of milk...It was wonderful! Having most of his meals bagged for the main portion of his schooling, Quilyn had never really thought of simple things such as this tray, surprising himself with the change of his fate, and he started seeing the students with a new air. Metas. He had heard this school was composed mostly of them, and yet, he could see no difference among the faces smiling and chatting lightly with each other. There were probably a few furry ears hidden under the wild hairstyles, like his own, but he had seen catgirls and werewolfs at his other schools. Rarities but one that had been exhausted of its novelty. Turning his gaze in disappointment back to the line, he reviewed what he had read of the school from the pamphlet the captain had given him. 'A wide, diverse campus in both students and architecture, AHS provides accomodations for students with unique abilities...' Maybe that was it. He just wasn't seeing their powers. Of course! It would hardly be fair to judge a book by its cover, to draw on the old cliche, so why was this any different? The line shifted forward to stand Quilyn in front of a rather broad woman frowning down at him with a ladel held like a horse crop. Smiling meekly, he felt his ears lower to his shoulders and pointed to something behind the plexiglass window without glancing down. She scooped it up with the ladel and sloshed it onto a plate before he could see the tag saying what it was supposed to be. Some sort of spaghetti? There were noodles...kind of...As he scooted down the line to gather a carton of milk and an apple, which he had no interest in, taking it because he felt he needed some sort of fruit, he prodded the bunch lightly with his fork. Smelled greasy, looked greasy...hmm...Hadn't the pamphlet boasted good food? With a distasteful face at the pile, he moved to one of the benches and sat down. Prod. |

Meliah was posted up quite comfortably on the table top eating with a rather large group of her fellow students. The lunch ladies hated it when the students sat ontop of the tables but the group of her peers and her had been tucked into a back corner where they could not see. Not like it mattered, the lunch line was growing larger, more students comming from class to get the second bach of food that the school pushed off on them. She placed her bony elbow on her bare tanned legs then put her head in her hands while she munched on an apple. It was her fourth apple that day and that was only after eating a turkey sandwhich, three bags of plain potato chips, two bananas, a bowl of tomato soup and five chocolate chip cookies. That was just her lunch meal. Yes she looked like she hadnt eaten in years but that was just the shape of her slender frame. This girl could seriously pack it away and had no problem with filling herself. In fact she was just waiting till the line died down to go get another sandwhich. She threw the apple on a frineds tray and he tried to complain but she squashed his mini rebellion with her usual warm sweet smile. He mumbled something under his breath to her and she broke into laugher. Still giggling as he walked away to throw away their lunches. She loved the school and all its people, althought she did have a few run-ins with people who didnt seem to like her cause she was friendly but that never stoped her. Not at her old school and definitly not here. Seeing the the lunch line had shortened, With a slight grunt she hoped off the table and dusted off her jade track jacket. She started making her way across the room when she noticed a boy looking rather lost for some reason. She assumed he was new to the school because of his wide eyed gaze. Granted she always looked like that, but he for some reason looked diffrent amung the mass of students. She kept her sky blue eyes on him as she strolled up to the line and shuffled behind the other students waiting for their food. Upon reaching the front of the line she grabbed a sandwhich and a pink fruit juice before handing her card to the lunch lady and giving her a innocent farwell wave. Meliah placed the cold juice under her arm to hold it while she stuffed her ID in her pocket then began to unwrap her turkey sandwhich. On the way back to her seat she glanced up at the boy again and vered to the left to go talk to him. You dont get to know someone unless you talk to the right? Exactly. Her messy raven buns bobbed slightly as she walked and the ribbion she always wore rippled, her long bangs hung low in her sparkling eyes. She plopped down in the seat and smiled charmingly at the boy, exposing two dimples. "Picked the wrong lunch huh? Never go through the 'Home-made' line. I think they are trying to kill us." She said with a giggle. "My names Meliah Novelle, but you can call me Lee or Mel. Im used to all of them." |

Quilyn flinched when the young woman jumped in front of him, his furry ears flattening against his neck as he warily watched her. His fork stuck awkwardly in the noodle mixture, he stared, dumbfounded, while she spouted out an introduction. Where had she come from? Was he really that lost in thought? Shaking his head slightly to clear away the questions, he tried to listen to her.
Alarm welled up within him until her easy laughter broke the tension. Uneasily joining her, Quilyn realized he had only believed her because this was somewhere new and strange. A school couldn't poison their students...Well, not intentionally. Maybe he was still shaken by her approach. Startling though she looked a little rough around the edges, she certainly wasn't hard on the eyes. A beauty posing as the beast. Her laughter faded, and introductions began. He always felt awkward during this part, but maybe she wasn't as...er...boisterous as she seemed? And if so, he had been called something of the sort in his previous schools.
Extending a hand, Quilyn forced a broad smile and raised his ears a little. Oddly enough, it did help to relax him, and his tail was nearly wagging as he introduced himself. "Quilyn Ru'Avren. I...Well, people pronounce it 'Kiln,' like the brick oven." He started to chuckle softly to himself. Truthfully, he had started calling himself that when he was a baby. Unable to produce the awkward 'Quil-inn' noise his mother referred to him as, he had let his infant tongue babble out the nickname. It had stuck, and even the Captain had laughed a little at his cleverness. 'Lad, you're amiable enough to get a sea turtle to change its course. By the west wind, I thought Quilyn was awkward myself when I read that note from your father.' Ears flat against his neck again, he realized that laughter had been out loud. "It's...I mean to say...Well, I don't know," Quilyn admitted awkwardly. |

Meliah raised any eyebrow in intrest at the boy, noting that he was slightly strange but then again so were alot of people at the school. Her azure eyes gazed at him and another giggle exscaped her lips before she picked apart her turkey sandwhich, eating from the center of the bread on out then eating the turkey. She always ate like that. It was sort of like her own system for eating ssndwhiches and things. She did that with most of her things, ordered stuff according to a system that only worked in her head. She smirked at him and took a long sip of her apple juice. The sweet luiquid traveled over her lips and down her dry throat to quinch her thirst. "Quilyn, Intresting name. I dont think I have even heard anything like it. I like it." She stated. He was too nervous and it was just making things more intresting. The people she had run into the school had been just as confident as she, something she was used to, but his apperent lack of smooth personality made her smile. It was comforting to know she didnt have to be on point with everything she said. She tugged at her shorts, pulling them down some over her tan legs then crossed them under the table, accidently kicking him softly. "Ohhh Im sorry!" She squeeled and looked up at him then noticing his ears. She had always heard of people like that from her parents but had never actually seen one untill she had come to AHS. They seemed to be in abundance here. With a tilt of her head she decided to ask again. She had asked someone before and they had taken it the wrong way, taking offense to the way she had saide it. She sat there a moment, lips pursed togather, pondering on how to word it so as not to be though of as some popular girl that liked to pick on others. Cause that wasnt who she was. Hopefully no milk would go flying this time. "Ummm...What...How...Errr..." A light rouge crossed her cheeks and she was ashamed of ther fact that she couldnt spit the words out. "You have ears..." |

The soft kick under the table seemed to shatter that boisterous quality to the girl and, with it, some of Quilyn's nerves. Gently, his tail wagged, somewhat awkwardly considering it was curled nearly against his back, but still enough to calm him down while she stared at him. An odd icebreaker but not at all unappreciated while he waited for her to settle and continue. What was she staring at? Belatedly, he remembered his furry ears and kept his hands wrapped around the fork to keep them from trailing up and feeling them selfconsciously.
"As do you," Quilyn returned, smiling at last. Tilting his head slightly and raising his ears in humor, he showed them a little more fully. Reddish, almost a rusty color, he was surprised she had noticed them tucked as far back as they had been in his parti-colored hair. "But, I think I know what you mean. These. Shiba Inu ears. A small, Japanese dog." He had used the same term describing Moonshadow before when people asked what kind of dog he was, patting the pup's head though the child in the background seemed to be lavishing in attention more. Hopefully, this would suffice as an answer. Mentioning his past, or even why he had the ears might prove disasterous to the wrong person. Yes, she was a high schooler, but who knew what rumors would spread. A confirmed Allu on this school's grounds would draw far too much attention. For now, maybe playing a sort of werewolf would keep incidences to a minimum. Trying to veer the topic away, Quilyn stabbed mercilessly at his food and tried to notice something of her. Well, she had pretty eyes, but to mention that would probably give the wrong impression. Having nothing to say, he tried a mouthful of the noodles. Not bad. Not particularly good. The noodles were far overcooked, but it wasn't moldy or stale. The typical, generic spaghetti most caffeterias probably produced mixed with a few bits of olive that had made him nervous to begin with. After a few mouthfuls, gulped and chewed something like a dog from the way he hovered over the plate, wrestling noodles from the pile, he came up with some sembance of a question. Too quiet, and she might pursue his ears, too talkative and it would be noticed as a change of subject. "Meliah Novelle," he said, chewing thoughtfully. "It sounds foreign. May I ask where you come from?" Stabbing at the spaghetti, he frowned a little. "I want to say France." |

Her laugh was soft and mellow as it floated across her lips and into the open air. He had a point, she did have ears but he knew darn well what she really meant. She raised a delicate hand to her earlobe and tucked her stray hairs behind it. She fondled the diamond earings that dangled from her ears, remembering the day she got them. It was right before they sent here here to learn more about her powers. A light smile graced her lips at his sudden change in topic and she snapped back to attention.. She just loved it when people did that in conversations, it made her want to know more about what was so important or secretive that they had to hide it but, she just met the poor boy. Its not like she wated to come off as imposing or something. "Wow thats a good guess and you, good sir, are correct. Actually your only half correct. My name is Meliah Elise Novelle and Im only one fourth french. My grandmother was from Marseille. I have never been there, I have'nt even been outside of the Midwest." She replied with another light laugh. She grabbed her juice from off of the table and shook it before twisting the cap off. She tossed the top onto the table then pressed the juice to her lips, taking a long drunk of the cool tangy luquid. With a small sigh she swallowed the last bit of juice, making sure to put the cap back on. "So, Quilyn Ru'Avren. Where are you from?" |

Quilyn felt a tinge of pride at having at least guessed her ancestry. American. He should have guessed as much, but Americans were few and far between in Okanawa, and even rarer in the secluded corner of Sherwood Forest that the Alluvindae had occupied. This school housed students from all over the world, and some, he suspected, a little further. He watched her guzzle the juice almost in dim fascination. How did she eat and drink so much? Well, he did too, but it was startling to see it from third person perspective as he chewed thoughtfully on the noodles, an ear raising in curiosity before he consciously lowered it. When she pushed the cap back onto the empty bottle, Quilyn snapped out of his staring and tried to focus a little on his own meal. Her abrupt question made him choke a little on his mouthful. "Mmph...Wemaih..." Swallowing the mouthful and blushing slightly, he tried to rearrange his phrasing. A lie would be rude after she had answered his question, but where he came from wandered into awkward territory. Allu weren't common enough to be instantly connected to England, so maybe he could be truthful about that, and Okanawa would directly be discernable in his accented Japanese if anyone listening caught him trying to lie to her. "I...Well, I've just come from Okanawa. I've lived there around seven years, and before that, I lived in England. Nothing too interesting or exotic," he said demurely. "Other than that, nowhere else." Stabbing at his food, he tried to think of something to ask her that wouldn't come back to hit him like this. "So...Do you have any hobbies? Interests?" |

A small blush came across her dimpled cheeks as he watched her drink her juice. It had'nt occured to her that she might eat to much and no one ever said anything to her beacuse of her body frame. Her slender form made some people worry that she was not feeding herself but that was far from the truth. The girl ate more than a football team in a hour. She tilted her head in a questioning form at Quilyn but she said nothing to make him anymore nervous and simply nodded her head slowly. Come on now, you dont just choke on your lunch trying to tell someone your whole life story. She knew he wasnt telling her everything completely open and honestly but what could she say, they had just met. The poor guy was easier to read than a picture book with only two colors either that or all those years of reading her parents when they lied about small things had come in handy. Still the information made her happy. He was an Englishman, comming from a proud country that were loyal to eachother and were not easy to intemidate. Well, atleast that was the general view of Good old England. "Ohh but England is exotic for someone like me who hasnt been more than 200 miles outside of her town. I have seen the pictures thought and they look amazing." She muttered thinking of something else to dine on before the lunch ladies closed the line on her. She looked up and say the table of her friends packing their things up to got and hang out in the courtyard befor going to class. They looked over to her and flagged her down, sort of as a signal to her that they were leaving but she raised a hand and waved them off. She was still not full and wanted something else to eat, not to mention she had found someone that was rather peculiar. "Oh hobbies? I dont really have any hobbies now that I think of it. Im not really all that active and all that but I do enjoy swimming. I guess you could say I am your horribly average teen with nothing to do but homework. I do have a strange attachment to cleaning though." Yes it was strange but come one who in their school had any right to talk about people being strange. I mean really, they went to a high school for students with special powers. Strange was what they were good at. |

((OOC: Sorry that this reply has taken so long. x.x; I've been sick and bleh! Anyways, on with the show...)) Her words about England turned up a slight smile as he kept his gaze trained on the slowly diminishing pile of food. Setting his fork down, Quilyn pushed the tray away and leaned, thinking. He had seen pictures, too. Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, even those ridiculous red telephone booths, but they were as real to him as her ideas. He remembered little of England except small things. The trees of the forest, the smiles of his family. Landmarks couldn't show what he did remember. Quilyn's ears lifted again as he heard her speaking of swimming. Oceanside had been his second home, splashing in the waves with Moonshadow while Captain Ru'Avren barked at him to not wander out too far and Biddy fussed over sand getting on the blanket. While they worried and fretted over him, he had been able to enjoy the warmth of the seawater around him, letting go of his fears and own worries. As she started to fade off to her other hobbies, a strange bit about cleaning. Quilyn had to keep a slight chuckle supressed at that. He hated the dredgery of work, content to play more, but it was refreshing to see someone who wasn't just following the crowd. "It is a little odd," he admitted, "but not a bad thing." He was still speaking in Japanese, keeping to habit, though she seemed to understand well enough. "There are definitely worse interests." Smiling, he tried to perk up a little. Had Quilyn really regressed so much that he was reliving all of this? "So...How long have you been here? I don't mean to sound like the Grand Inquisition, if that's any trouble to ask..." |

She had always thought it was a good thing. Atleast thats what her parents had always told her, who wants to live in a dirty house? What kind of girl would just let things go like that? Meliah shook her head slowly at his comment, her raven bangs fell into her eyes causing her to brush them back to their place at the side of her face, tucked in the nook behind her ear. He wasnt asking her anything that was all that intrusive, so she had no problem answering his questions. It wasnt like he would remain a mystery to her forever, eventually he would trust her enough to tell her something about him and everyone knows the best kept secrets are always the most fun to finally hear. She had too much patience for that. "Oh no, its no big. Its not like your asking me for my social security number or my birthcertificate." She laughed. "Not that long actually, only a mounth and a half. Well thats how long it feels like it alteast. I have'nt really been very many places but I have made quite a few friends." She said with an air of pride. Being social was definatly her forte. She was always thought of as the popular girl in the past and her natural abitliy to conversate and her confidence seemed to apeal to people. She loved it too. It is always easier when things just come to you like that but she still had the problem of two faced girls. It hurt her to think about how they smiled in her face but cut at her behind her back. Granted she was a bit of an air head but she knew they were doing it. It never failed to happen no matter where she went. She looked down from him and focused on the bottle infront of her, tipping it back and forth to distract herself from her own thoughts. "And while were on the subject, how long have you been here?" ((OOC: no problem! I am fighting some serious writers block)) |

Quilyn found himself chuckling as she justified her disposition toward cleaning. He hadn't meant to insult her, but few people he knew would consider cleaning a toilet a hobby. It was somewhat refreshing to hear, albeit a bit unexpected. She had been serious! Well, maybe it gave her a sense of accomplishment. After all, wasn't that why people took up crafts? Who sat around knitting all day when they could walk to the nearest store and buy the same article of clothing or blanket in half a moment? Likewise, he didn't have much in the way of boasting, either. His own favorite thing to do was play fetch. That was significantly more odd, especially when one considered it was with himself, letting Moonshadow chase after the stick and winding them both. That didn't even produce a result except the excercise gained from it and an early bedtime. The question, she answered easily, reassuring him that he hadn't intruded too much. What was Social Security? Shrugging that aside, his tail wagged a little in the tight ball on his back. She liked to make friends, boasting that she had more than a handful in the month she'd been here. At least the subject had properly veered away from himself to her, though there were a few glances from her that suggested he had not been completely forgotten. "How long have I been here?" Quilyn repeated. "Well...Not very long at all...This would be my first day. I smelled the food, and...Well, several hours on a plane will make anyone hungry." With a despairing glance at his spaghetti, he frowned and pushed it further away. Not quite that hungry. Smiling at her, he tried to think of something else to say. "What is there to do around here? I hear there are so many strange things in this place." Mostly, the students...which makes me wonder...Would she mind? "I hear everyone here has powers or something like that...Do you...Would you mind...explaining?" |

Her broad cheery grin melted into a slightly whistful one, the swwet dimples that grazed her cheeks disappering from sight and she looked up from the empty bottle back to Quilyn. Little did he know in his innocence that was the wrong thing to ask. A wave of shame washed over her causing her cheeks to flush mildly. It never really bothered her that she had no super powers of her own untill she got here to AHS and everyone asked her that one question. Back at home she was the normal one that had no problems fitting in with the rest of the kids because the rest of the kids were just like her. Here, she was the oddball. She was never all that excited to find out that she might be a super natural freak but then again, when you have everything in life who would really want to trade it in for the chance to be the town weirdo? No one and Meliah was no exception but she figured, if your destined to be this thing, this super human person, you might as well get used to it. Atleast she had time to prepare. The other student here seemed to have it thrust upon them during a time of great danger or depression. Others were simply born that way. Yeah, Lucky me, Lucky Meliah. Always the one who gets the silver spoon and not the plastic one. Either way Im stuck here with no powers to speak of. They just should have left me at home with my friends...my real ones. What do they know anyway? Just cause they went to school here and just cause the doctors said I'm might develope my stupid powers. She thought to herself, also debating on weather she really wanted to tell him the truth. The doctors said that she was a strange case indeed. It was unusual that the meta-human gene would skip her seeing as both of her parents were meta-human themselves. Yet after all these years she was still considered human. During the height of her teenage years were these supposed powers just going to leap up on her? It was a stupid assumption. Meliah lifted her ocean colored eyes from Quilyn's lips up to his eyes and forced out a fake absent chuckle. He was so sweet and innocent. Little did he know. "Uhhh, Im lacking in that department actually. Its not a long story so I'll just tell your it anyway. My parents are Alumni of the school and upon finding out that I was just human they sent me here to help me...Um...Develpoe my powers. They are just missing they fact that Im human." She nodded her head and stated rather mater-of-factly. No since in beating around the bush and lying just to save face. That time was over, to many people knew her in the school now for her just to start making up a power for the sake of being normal again. |
