Chihiro sat at the edge of the roof, her legs dangling over the edge, and watched people move around below, oblivious to her presence there. It seemed in the entire school, the roof was the only quiet place left where near-death experiences haven't seeked her out yet, other than the garden. Every place else someone crazy tried to kill her or she was given the responsibility of dismantling a walking bomb that was invading the school... She closed her eyes as a small breeze blew past, whisping her hair behind her. She started humming a bouncy tune, like something you'd hear on Disneyland Mainstreet. Great, now she felt like strolling... |

Meliah made her way up the long sprial stairs after wondereing around at the base of the building. She hadnt been at the school long but it seemed like the roof was her favorite place to just chill out. Althought she almost ended up with hypothermia the last time she had choosen the roof as her hang out spot. She looked up the staircase as she climbed on step at a time and enjoyed the rythem that her footsteps made against the landings. She reached the top and pushed open the large door, struggling to hold all its weight against her slim frame. She let the door ease closed behind her and looked up to see another young lady on the roof. Which again, seemed to be a theme. Guess it was the new hot spot. She looked at the girl as a gust of wind brushed her raven bangs into her wide eyes. The girl was humming a rather peppy tune but her ears wouldnt allow her brain to get ahold of it. "Hey there..." She said in her usual airy voice and flashed the girl a warm smile. "Let me guess, Zippity Do-Da..." She walked over to where the girl was sitting and sat down next to her. Her short legs dangled over the edge and she swung them in a pendulum like motion. |

Chihiro smiled at the girl. "Close, but not quite. Actually it's a ringer on my cell phone called "Melody 3"," she shrugged. "I think it's nice...even if I don't know what it's called. It makes me feel like I should be strolling down Mainstreet Disneyland. Anyway, I'm Chihiro." She stuck her hand out for the girl to shake. At least she didn't seem like she was going to try and kill her or send her on military missions of any kind. She seemed nice. |

She took the girls hand in her frail one and shook it slightly. It was great to meet another girl on campus that wasnt either catty and mean or just down right stand-offish. A giggle exscaped her crimson lips and with a shrug of her sholders she looked back out a the beautiful view. "So what are you doing up here all by yourself? Had a ruff day or just hanging out?" She inquired with a grin, enjoying her company. |

Chihiro looked back down at the people under them. "Oh, just hanging out and enjoying the fact that I didn't, for once, have a rough day. What about you?" This girl seemed pretty happy. It was nice to meet someone who was happy on their own instead of her having to do something weird and/or stupid to amuse them enough for them to crack a smile...though usually she didn't even do it for them. She did weird and/or stupid things all the time so it was never really hard. |

"Sounds like you have had a quiet more exciting time here at school than I have. That actually seems to be a theme when it has to do with me." Melaih let her ocean eyed gaze fallow that of the girls and she watched her fellow students scatter around under their feet. It was always fun to come up to the roof and it was even better when it was actually warm outside. A gust of wind blew the whisps of her ebony hair about her face before they rested on her rouge lips. She placed a elbow on her bare knee and sat her face in her palm, cradling her head in comfort. "As for me Chihiro, I have been comming up here every once in awhile to just chill out. And I dont think I told you my name, it's Meliah. You can call me Lee or Mel, I have been called all of them." |

Chihiro thought for a moment. Her sense of rebellion and individuality told her to not do as everyone else did, and she wasn't about to not listen to it. Then she got an idea. "How about Melli?" So it wasn't completely unique; it was basically taking the two nicknames and putting them together. Still, it was different. "As for the excitement part, it's only partly great. Sure, I'm never really bored, but it's mostly near-death experiences I get into. I don't mind them that much though. That's how I found out about my powers, and how I make most of my friends...here at least." That sounded strange, even to her. Almost dying was the way she made friends...she sounded so pathetic. That wasn't exactly the case, but it was pretty close. |

A impish laugh floated out of Meliah's pink lips and she nodded her head lightly in complete agrement. It was orignal and she loved it. The name had a childish ring to it but not so much of an idoict one that could be easily mocked. No one had ever called her Mellie. No one had ever given her her own nick name for that matter. Well other than her parents but, who really counted their parents? It seemed as if she had found someone that could be really cool to hang out with. "Yeah, Mellie. I think Im growing rather fond of it already." She said grinning at Chihiro, uncovering two dimples that sat on her cheeks. "Well then. I guess I am the first person you have met on normal terms? Unless you would rather we just break into a fist fight." She joked. |

Chihiro smiled. Mellie really seemed to like the nickname, which was good because otherwise she would get really irritated when Chihiro called her that anyway. She'd done that before, and liked to watch the people slowly simmer until they reached boiling point and finally exploded at her. Not that she didn't like it when people were happy, it was just so much fun to watch them get mad. "Well, there were a few other people I met in a normal way," she said. At the suggestion Chihiro put her hand to her chin in mock thought. "You know, that sounds really tempting, but I'll have to pass," she said jokingly and laughed. |

Meliah mocked a sigh of total relief as she agreed that a physcial confrontation was not all that necessary. Her mother had always told her that she was such a big ham and that her goofy overdramatics were simply intresting to indulge in but she never noticed just how silly she was. The thought of her in a fist fight was downright insane. She rarely ever got into arguments for goodness sake. She swung her slim legs back and forth over the edge again wondering if she would ever really get into a serious fight with anyone at school. She shrugged it off with a simple answer. No. She was to girly and nice for that but life always did have a way of changing things. "So Chihiro, Where are you from?" She inquired. |

Chihiro opened her mouth to reply, then closed it again. She thought for a moment before answering, watching the ground below them absently. "Before I came here I lived in a little town to the north...I'm sure where I was before that." It was surprising how easy it was to answer to something like that, even when you didn't have an answer. It seemed that since she came here she'd been forced more and more to look back at her nonexistant past. But that was to be expected. Ever since she found out about her powers, she hadn't hung out much with the other kids in her old neighborhood so they wouldn't find out...not that that was a problem; they all thought she was too weird anyway. Here though, everyone could be more open to each other. In a way it was sort of nice. |

She looked over to Chihiro to see if she was joking about not rememebering, seeing the somber look on her face made Meliah understand that the poor girl wasnt joking. How could you not remember where you come from? She couldnt imagen it for the life of her and she felt liks a complete idiot asking something like that How insensitive could she be?! The crisp air filled her lungs as she sighed in shame. She had to change the subject and fast before she looked like even more of an jerk. "Sooo....What are you powers?" She asked nervously with a silly grin on her dimpled cheeks. |

Chihiro saw how nervous Mellie suddenly was and smiled at her. "Hey, calm down. It's okay, I'm not offended or insulted or anything. If I got angry at everyone who brought that up I'd have no friends here at all. Besides, it's not like it's a very common thing." She didn't really mind anymore when that subject was breached. It was a normal, get-to-know-people-better thing to ask about their pasts, so they never really did it intentionally to hurt her. It got her to think a lot, but other than that she was fine. "Anyway, I'm a light adept. My powers aren't really that strong yet, but it's still pretty cool. What are your powers?" |

"I dont have any..." The words exscaped her lips rather frankly and she tried to cover her hostility from her new confidante without thinking about it. A small wave of anger and shame covered her face with a light flush, dancing behind her eyes as she looked down at all the happy students below them. They were happy because they knew who they were and what so called gift they were given. They were happy here because they had been saved from peope without powers who abused them...people like here. "Yeah, I dont have any..." She mummbled lightly then looked at Chihiro with a forced smile on her face. She knew the reaction she would get, they all had given it to her as of recently and she hated every pity stare. Was this how she looked at the geeks and freaks of her old school where she was the norm? If that was the case she understood when they gave her the evil eye back. She didnt need these people to pity her. She was the normal one. "My parents sent me here so that I could be around other teens that are supposed to be like me but it seems that I'm not like any of you." She smeared the fake smile wider across her rouge lips. "So what do light adepts do?" |

Chihiro blinked, watching her blankly as she said she didn't have any powers. Mellie seemed to resent that, though Chihiro didn't know why. She could ignore the question about light adepts for now. This seemed more important. "What's wrong? Do you want powers? Sure, they're cool, but they're really hard to train and control," she tilted her head as an idea came to mind. "Are you worried you'll be some sort of loner here? Trust me, I bet even some of the people who think they have strange or dangerous powers feel the same way. And anyways, I bug the hell out of people, being so cheerful and thinking it actually fun to watch steam come out of their ears...figuratively speaking of course...okay so there was that one time...but anyway, I take it as compliments when they call me weird or way too damn happy. Am I ranting?" By now she had even confused herself. She'd probably not only lost her train of thought, but the passengers had taken all their luggage and made quite a few stops at all the stations. She knew she should've taken that left turn at Albuquerque... She had meant something about how it was all right to be different. She was definitely different, even in a place with others "like her". She liked being unique and running against the crowd, not really caring what others thought of her. In fact, she'd really pitied the people at her old school that looked at her like she was some sort of scum. They were usually the people that didn't have any real friends and would grow up to be those cranky divorced old men/women who yell at kids to get off their lawns because they never knew how to have any fun with their lives when they had the chance. She looked up at the sky, scratching the back of her head and trying to retrace her thoughts to their original train. Yeah, like that was possible. |

And just as she expected she got it, a pity party but she didnt pay much attention to it. It didnt really matter if the other people felt that they were dangerous or whatever. She wasnt them. Was that supposed to make her feel better? The entire conversation wasnt all the wonderful to be in but the girls incerdbly up beat personality was actually kind of infectious in a way. She looked at the girl and chuckled lighty as her sudden ranting into a diffrent subject and shook her head slowly causeing a few rebelious strands of her coal colored hair to sway. "Yes, You were ranting...but its okay cause your actually no that bad at it." She said almost laughing, diverting the entire conversation to something eles that she would rather discuss at the moment. "Now all you have to do is perfect your monolog skills and you would be all set to take over a small country. Wouldnt want to start to big now would you." |

Chihiro grinned. "Well I get a lot of practice. If I'm doing it purposely than I can keep on going on about something until the person I'm talking to walks away. As for the country domination, I was thinking of starting with somewhere like Antarctica," she put a hand to her chin and stared forward as if in thought. "I'm sure the penguins would appreciate my worldy views and would be willing to follow my command. I could train them in secret arts of combat and lead them in hostile military seiges to overthrow every major government and then...the world will be mine! Bwa ha ha ha ha!" she ended throwing her head back and laughing pseudo-maniacally..."Whoa!" and losing her balance, falling backwards. This made her burst out laughing hysterically. 'Aw man, I should have gotten that on tape!' She rolled over slightly, clutching her stomach and bringing her legs up so she wouldn't fall off the building or something. Everyone on the ground was probably looking up in their direction, wondering who the hell was laughing as if the Joker had hit them with his laugh gas, but she didn't care one bit. She believed everyone should be able to laugh at themselves when they did something stupid, not just other people. A thought hit her while she was laughing, and she managed to gasp out, "Wait *laugh* do pen- *laugh* penguins even *laugh* live in Antarctica?" though she kind of trailed out on the last word as she was driven back into a fit of laughter. |
