(Midnight...and the moon was in full bloom. Just an expression for being full and vibrant on a night that was mostly clear. There were a few clouds here and there, but nothing that would keep a certain wolf she knew indoors. Atop a roof at the school, Rish carefully sheathed her wakizashis as she prepared for a night out on the wilderness. She had been too nice to that werewolf and it was time to let him know that she was still here to bother him. Her gray ninja suit was ready and she was about to apply her mask...when she saw something down below.) Rish: You have got to be kidding me... (Imagine her surprise to find a young man wandering into the school grounds, looking somewhat disoriented. She could see through the cover of the night easily. Rish knew this boy. He was the kitsune-killer, the nemesis known as Diablo, who had committed the ultimate crime against her. She couldn’t believe her luck. That he would wander into this place just as she was ready to cause some harm meant the fates were on her side for once. For a moment, Rish considered waking her fellow kitsunes for this, the ones whom she trusted to aid her in this personal vendetta, but no... She couldn’t bother them now. Not like this. The setup was perfect. He was alone and off-balance, not another soul for miles that could even possibly act as a support unit. It was her decision, then, to act...and soon. As the boy got near the building, he happened to look up towards the roof, but saw nothing there because Rish had moved, backing away for a running start. Then, her sprint began and she leapt from the roof silently, plunging down towards the boy, who only noticed her as he saw a gray ninja ram a fist into his face. He was off his feet as Rish caught herself with a hand and twisted around to deliver a kick that sent him tumbling across the ground. She caught up to him just as he was getting up and delivered two solid punches to his chest, followed by a high kick that impacted his chin and a full-strength roundhouse kick that threw him several feet away. When the boy opened his eyes again, he saw the sky filled with a somersaulting form that threw off the mask and revealed the kitsune-like features of the gray ninja whom many had called the Divine Fox. He rolled aside as Rish kicked down hard enough with both legs to shatter the pavement. Diablo had a look of shock on his face as he saw Rish in her human form with visible fox-ears and fox-tails. Surprised that he’d see her again? And with the upper-hand? Rish left nothing to chance. She pulled out the two wakizashi blades as her green eyes glared fiercely at the Soul Academy student.) “Rish, wait...” Rish: Shut up!! (She was surprised both by the thought that he had actually tried to recall her name and that he was trying to talk to her when they were enemies. Even more disturbing was how little control she really had right now. Her voice was not the usual calm, or even a controlled rage. It could never be so around him, not when he’d wounded her so deeply. Right after her shout, Rish kicked him in the throat, which sent up a terrible coughing fit as he hit the ground again. She got a good look at him as he tried to breathe once more. He was dressed in casual clothing, including a dark jacket that complimented his hair. He was quite handsome. Such a shame... She might’ve actually liked him if he weren’t a murdering bastard. As he began to sit up, Rish was already there, her wakizashis crisscrossed over his neck with only a centimeter distancing her from opening his jugular.) Rish: Not one more movement, Diablo. I saw you get hurt at that base and I know that you’re vulnerable to ordinary weapons. Try anything and your throat is history. Even your powers couldn’t stop me. And don’t think I’ll be nice if you cooperate. You’ll pay for what you did to my brother... (Oh yes. She knew all about it, about the attack against Soul Academy, about how her brother, Daggoth, led the strike in one of his campaigns against the human race. She knew that he had been sucked away into nothingness by this lowlife scum. Rish didn’t care what kitsunes did with humans, overall. She valued her kind highly, almost with a passion. When she said that she’d rather see a thousand humans dead than one of her own kind, she meant it.) “Wait, you don’t understand. Listen to me...” Rish: Listen to you? Why should I do anything of the sort? You may think you were doing the right thing, that you were defending yourself, but you have no idea how things really are. Your life is but the blink of an eye compared to mine. No matter what you say you’ve lost, you will never know my pain. For while you’ll live on and die, I’ll have to carry my loss for an eternity. So what can you say to my sorrow that could possibly make up for what I’ve lost? “You’re brother isn’t dead.” (Rish’s eyes narrowed like slits. Anger was shown on her face, as well as a measure of confusion. Why did he just say that? Did he honestly believe that she would be taken in by such a transparent ploy to save his own skin? Better that he try to exercise that power of his and risk the throat-slice than attempt to reason with her!) Rish: What did you say? (The pair of blades that were a small space separated from his neck now closed that gap as Rish decided to call his bluff and dare him to speak again.) “I said I’m not dead, damn you!” (Something was wrong. None of this was making sense. He couldn’t possibly fool her with such a lie. Her senses were far too sophisticated to be taken in like this. He couldn’t somehow masquerade as her brother. He was a human. True, his energy signature was downright bizarre, but still... Why should she even entertain this as a possibility? There was simply no possible way it could be true.) Rish: You excrement... Why should I believe such a act? You’ll say anything to save your neck. I should bite your eye out right now for saying that. “Rish, look at me... Look past this human face, past these pathetic human eyes. See into the very soul, as I know you can. Appearances are deceiving...” (She looked...carefully. If this was a trap, she wanted to be ready. She opened up the full extent of her senses, looking far and deep into the astral form that this boy possessed. She wasn’t sure what it was she was looking for. The outward energy signature was what she’d expect from Diablo. But…on the inside... Rish faltered, letting go of her weapons and dropping to her knees. Her eyes were filled with a long list of emotions, all mixed up with nowhere to go. Finally, she spoke.) Rish: Daggoth...? Daggoth: It’s about time... You damn near killed m- AUGH!! (She was suddenly clutching him tightly around his arms, her head buried into his shoulder as tears came forth from her eyes. Rish had lost all restraint on her emotions as she found herself actually sobbing uncontrollably, a reaction she would barely believe herself capable of, but there it was. Against all reason, her brother was alive…and she had almost killed him!) Rish: You’re alive!...You’re alive! I don’t know how and I don’t care how… Just tell it to me again so I’ll believe you this time! Daggoth: Rish... Rish: Please... (His own borrowed eyes widened in shock. Had this human upset her that much? Yes, he must have. To hear that he killed kitsunes was a hard enough thing for her to bear. To have known what he did to him must have been devastating. He felt it too now, that same feeling. He understood. It was like that day, long ago, when he thought Rish would die. Daggoth placed a hand around Rish’s back and one on her head. Feeling the raw emotion of heartache, of family, and the bond they shared, Daggoth spoke as if he were an older brother, and not merely her twin.) Daggoth: I’m alive, Rish. I’m alive and I’m going to stay that way. (The bond they shared... It was something that all twins experienced, some more than others. To be honest, Daggoth never believed he had such a thing until that one day, many years ago. Since then, he’d always valued Rish as the sibling she was, and she clearly had always felt this way about him. Maybe he’d been too blind to see how much it effected her, but he knew now. Rish was behaving like a child and didn’t seem to care. Daggoth let it go because of the meaning behind it. She would recover eventually. In the meantime, she had a death-grip on this boy’s body and it was sort of a life raft for him right now. As if on a cue, he let out a loud cough, sounding downright unhealthy. He let go of Rish, having reassured her.) Daggoth: Uhh, Rish? Could you loosen up a bit? This body’s in a bad way. (She let him go and sat down properly, her face still a strange mixture of emotions, pure joy being at the top of that list. However, the next one down was confusion. He had a little explaining to do…) Rish: Daggoth, what happened to you? Why are you in that body? I was told you were dead by our parents! Daggoth: They told you I was sucked into oblivion by the hole whose ass I’m currently sitting in? Rish: That’s one way of putting it. Daggoth: Well, that’s pretty accurate, really. This boy is a hole for energy. Any energy at all. I was sucked into a void from which there is no escape, because the only way out is the way in and the in only sucks more in. Rish: But...you were devoured by him! Daggoth: Yes...and no. He certainly got all my energy, but my spirit was made for endless voids and darkness. I was stuck there and powerless. I lived off of his void because it was my natural element. No other beast could ever pull that off. Rish: He really was a void? Daggoth: He was…until he died. I guess his school makes a lot of enemies, because someone went and killed everyone there, this guy included. As soon as he died, his void collapsed. And since I needed something to walk around in, I revived the body and took it. In retrospect, however...*Cough*...I think it was a bad idea. Rish: Sorry. I wasn’t about to let him even have the chance to pull anything. Daggoth: That’s okay. You didn’t do anything that severe. It’s in bad shape because I barely dragged it back from death. Rish: Daggoth… He’s not in there, is he? Daggoth: Oh, I wish. Then, I’d torment him endlessly. Rish: That could be arranged. I can exorcise. Daggoth: Sweet! Only...not now. I really need a rest or something. And food. Definitely food. You got some? Rish: Nothing on me, but I’ll dig something up. This is a school, after all. Daggoth: I know, I know. I came here because of some of this guy’s lingering memories. I recognized you on a mission of some sort, where you two first met. (They both stood up, Daggoth more carefully. He noted that Rish seemed to be a bit more controlled than a moment ago. Good. One should never lose ones control, at least not for long. Regardless, he was glad to have her as a sister.) Daggoth: Listen, Rish... I’m going to need a lot of time to recover. Can I stay here for a while? Will they accept a worn-out fox like me? Rish: Of course, my brother. You can stay in my room...whether they like it or not. |
