“…What was it all for?”

“Never was good enough anyways…”

Yeah, it had come to this. After what Leon had endured, topped with an excruciating painful day, things had come to a head, and his world was left shattered. It was still at that point where he didn’t even care about picking up the pieces…just talking to himself, and kicking the dead leaves around like some broken fragment of himself, wrinkled and lifeless.

Time was no longer a concept to which he abided by…not anymore, anyways. Circular thinking and wandering around aimlessly was good for that sort of thing. He could have walked for hours, or what seemed like days even, and not realized it; so thick into the forest that shining moonlight and burning sunlight looked the same through the tapestry of treetops. Not really getting anywhere, and walking that thin line between not caring any more.

It didn’t take long before he had found himself a tree stump, resting himself atop it. A knee pulled close into his chest, both arms crossed and resting on it, his chin on his arms. Dead orbs on the ground, like it held some spell over him. Grief had come and go so fast, thrashed him and left him for dead, that his body and mind were utterly….numb. What’s left for you when the person you would do anything, anything at all for, suddenly doesn’t want you around? He didn’t know…part of him didn’t want to know. Part of him wanted to march right down there and give Diana a piece of his mind; whatever was left of it, anyhow. Part of him missed her, and part was done with the whole ordeal. It wanted an ending, a closing to this bittersweet chapter of life.

“This fool is through.”

Came out like a whisper, muttered into his hands. His eyes stayed on dead leaves, as they shifted around and wrote his tattered message on the forest floor. He could have sat there all day, all year really, and not given a damn about it. He’d lost too much. Friends, his sword given back to its rightful owner on a whim…His eyes glanced downwards, examining the small lump in his pocket, then down to the locket, hanging down an inch away from his chest. Hesitant, he moved his hand, a feeble attempt to open it, and stare at such happy faces one more time.

But he never got that chance.

A thunderous ‘boom’ erupted violently from all around and nowhere all at once. The wind picked up ferociously, swirling the leaves about like a whirlwind veil to the world. Then pain. Intense pain, all over his back, neck, the back of his head. Splinters of wood slashed his skin as they tore by, and his hands grasped at the wrist that had him pushed halfway into a tree, pinned effortlessly. The grip was more than vice-like--he could feel his tendons had snapped already, and would have screamed in pain, if his voice box wasn’t crushed.

A growl…low and sinister, sounded everywhere, but crystal clear in his head. He couldn’t see, his vision blurred and blackened from the blow so fast…but that voice, haunting him already.

“I’ll take back what’s mine, even if I have to tear you apart to get it.”

He couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t even see. The bitter taste of metal slowly filled his mouth, dripping slowly out the edge, as his body attempted a thrash against his attacker.

A surge, out of nowhere. It had happened before, but not like this. Not much, no, but just enough to push…whatever it was, off him. His body detached from the tree and he fell to all fours, his body shaking. Blood spattered the forest floor, both from fresh wounds around his neck, and his lips. Breathing alone was the most agonizing thing imaginable; searing pain entering his body instead of oxygen to his lungs. He gagged. Choked. Tried to lean back, only to see a flurry of wind and leaves flying right for him again. He wouldn’t survive the next one…

It was something inhuman. Something elemental…Unstoppable.

But something else happened, instead of the would-be fatal blow.

“YOU!”

Vision blurred. The wind poured out back against him even harder, pushing him back against the same tree. There was something else there, something that other entity must not have liked. Then everything stopped again. Leaves, wind, all of it. They were still moving though…whatever they were. Fighting? He couldn’t tell. His ears were ringing so loudly, the possibility of being deaf wasn’t far gone.

Then, a hand on his arm, and something warm behind him. Spinning, revolving…glowing.

~Lets go kid~

Then?

Nothing.
