When the Society Against the Existance of Meta Humans (or SAEMH) began down the path to war against the 'vermin' of meta-humanity, one fact was brutally clear from the outset. Quite simply, the reason metas were so dangerous and so odious to proper society was the fact that they possessed powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. What was more, this power, if left unchecked, was already known to lead to conflicts and confrontations that could prove deadly to innocent bystanders. One had only to look at the Chicago incident for proof of this fact. No, it was quite clear almost immediately: taking on metahumans would require more than mere guns and knives. Yet where should they begin? A normal human stood no chance against a metahuman under most circumstances. And employing metas to fight metas would solve nothing. So, what did that leave? The answer was simple. Technology. Where mortal men would fail, men of steel could prevail. Where humans and metas alike would tire, a men of titanium would carry on. Supermen... -Power-men... they could do it, without contributing to the world's meta population. And thus the SAEMH gathered perhaps one of the greatest assemblies of minds and materials the world had ever seen, and set them to work. What was produced, in early January of 2003, was the Power Man prototype, ADAM. And yet, even in the face of this advancement, there were several key members of the SAEMH hierarchy who felt strongly that simply hiding behind machines would end in folly. What if they malfunctioned? What if they were turned against them? What if they outright FAILED? Even as the Power Men were green-lighted for mass production, the sentiment persisted. If they were capable of creating robots to do their dirty work, then why not also work to put normal humans on par with their meta counterparts? Thus was the inspiration behind the BIOS project. To create systems of wearable compact body armor that could not only withstand combat with a metahuman, but sport the firepower to defeat one. In the course of development, the designs were wide and varied. Some were full exoskeletal suits, as those that had been produced experimentally for years to benefit general manual labor. However, these were generally slow and steady, prone to taking fire too easily. Another line utilized minor implants to tie the user's body closer to the machine, affording greater control... these, while faster, required invasive surgery to implement. And then an idea came for nanotechnology. Simply, a series of strengthing nanomachines that could reinforce the host body, network directly to external arms, and all around bring the human to par with a metahuman, all in an ultimately reversible process. It was brilliant. It was promising. It also had one major flaw in development. Quite simply, in order to create and test the machines, proper test hosts were needed. And yet, who would agree to be infused with something that could possibly dismantle them from the inside out? Not only that, but there was no such thing as a human who didn't possess a degree of interfering genetic material or biological odditiy, be it from illness, injury, or defect. Such things could throw the results in tuning the machines to interact properly with biological tissue... Ultimately, the decision was made to approach the problem from the reverse angle. Instead of starting with a human and building up, they would start with a machine and build down. In effect, they would engineer a line of testbed biological/technological hybrids... bio-androids... who could act as living laboratories for the researchers to experiment on. After a screening process of active SAEMH members for health and adaptiblity, one Sara Rodriguez. a former resident of Chicago, was chosen to provide the starter DNA. After the sample underwent gene therepy to correct the natural defects, it was utilized in the synthesis of the BIOS project's first trio of bio-androids... |

Project: Integrated Mechanical Omni-purpose Bionic Implant Undertaking - Starting Test-type (IMOBIUST) Division: Evaluation-use Variable Archetype Manufacturer: SAEMH Production Date: January 2003 Production Length: 3 units Dimensions: head height 1.62 meters Weight: 90.72 kilograms (empty) Powerplant: ultra-compact high-energy bionic reactor, output variable Propulsion: Gressorial Performance: maximum ground running speed 100 km/h Equipment: sensors, range 5000 meters History: The first trio of units produced under the BIOS living weapons project, completed in late January 2003. Though completed after the Power Men had already entered mass production, the EVA series bio-androids quickly proved far more than adequate test subjects for the development of new weapon technologies. Not only were they capable of quickly and effectively assimilating the information on proper use of the experimental machinery, but also to operate the equipment just within its limitations, and provide feedback and observation on the flaws they discovered. Because of this, weaponry and equipment could undergo a month's worth of human testing in a matter of a week, simply due to the exclusion of educational and rest periods for the test subjects. By March of 2003, the project was proving such a success that the division's purpose and resources were expanded. Quite simply, with the number of weapons that came out successes, and with the Power Man numbers well into the triple digits, it was time to see how the combinations of equipment could perform under more realistic conditions. And thus, the focus of the trials the EVA units were performing moved from laboratory testing of small equipment to live fire exercises. At first, these exercises moved as swiftly and as gracefully as their predecessors. The three units executed commands and fulfilled their objectives against target drones and automated emplacements with a minimum of collateral damage. It was when the researchers added a new variable, however, that one major flaw of the EVA line's development became evident... During a trial of the TOM exoskeletal armor by EVA-3, a live meta-human was introduced into the testing area. Believing it a drone as all others, EVA-3 engaged and attacked the terrified young man, overpowering him easily, and slicing him apart in a routine series of strikes. It was only as it finished the battery of motions that the bloody sight before it registered to its senses... a sight it had never been programmed or prepared for in a combat situation. At that moment, its only frame of reference were interactions with the development staff, and the doting care of the EVA division's lead designer, Dr. Takahasi Oboro. The conflicting information of organic beings caring for it and its murdering of one only moments before drove EVA-3 into a self-destructive meltdown, and resulted in the complete destruction of two testing labs before it was deactivated. Following the incident, Dr. Oboro was removed as head designer of the bio-android line, due to his insistence on treating the units like daughters. The EVA units, as well, were removed from equipment trials, relegated to tasks of labor or basic design experiments. In their place, researcher Dr. Crou Raven would create the next generation, the KAM line. The ultimate fate of the EVA series would arrive on August 20th, 2003, in the midst of the SAEMH's all out assault on Anime High School. In a daring move, a small team of metas, led by one Ryu Musashi, broke into the regional headquarters where the EVA series (among other things) were stored. In the resulting conflict, the facility was destroyed and engulfed in flames, taking with it EVA units 2 and 3. EVA-1, however, escaped this fate by virtue of an accidental activation by Kage Gesshoku. During the resulting battle, EVA-1 proved more than a match for the mystic knight, yet ceased hostilities when a self-destruct signal was issued to all combat units after the routing of the main force on Dragoon Mountain. Kage, however, forcibly removed EVA-1's self-destruct device, and then returned to AHS with the damaged robot girl. After being repaired by a resident scientist on the campus, EVA-1 assumed the name Tsubomi Hato, and became a resident of the campus. |

Project: Integrated Mechanical Omni-purpose Bionic Implant Undertaking - Starting Test-type (IMOBIUST) Division: Katharsic Assault Module Manufacturer: SAEMH Production Date: June 2003 Production Length: 3 units Dimensions: head height 1.64 meters Weight: 90.72 kilograms (empty) Powerplant: ultra-compact high-energy bionic reactor, output variable Propulsion: Gressorial Performance: maximum ground running speed 100 km/h Equipment: sensors, range 5000 meters; transphasic shielding History: The second line of bio-androids produced in the BIOS living weapons project, completed in June 2003. Following the meltdown of EVA-3, and the classification of the EVA units as unfit for live-fire testing, the production of a new trio of testbeds became necessary. However, the lessons learned from the EVA series would not be lost on the researchers. As well as they performed, the EVA series had been far from perfect, both on their responsiveness and adaptability to new circumstances. While speedy in reporting data, and able to quickly change between evaluation projects, they had not adapted well to live combat at all. That, compounded with the interference of Dr. Oboro's doting had bred sentimental machines incapable of tolerating battlefield conditions. And while reconditioning was possible, the time needed to fully convert the units was deemed too costly as war loomed. At the same time, the first skirmishes between metas and Power Men were already taking place, pointing out the flaws of the initial Power Man design. The first and foremost of these was, ironically, poor adaptability to new and unconventional tactics. Metahumans, for all their flaws, were still thinking beings capable of creating new applications on their own, which gave them quite the edge over the purely data-driven Power Men. With so many of the units, however, it seemed much more cost effective to simply mass-produce Power Men as standing footsoldiers, and then utilize thought-capable bio-androids to not only develop counter-strategies, but also directly combat difficult units should the need arise. But first, they would need to be able to kill something without hitting a logic conflict... The solution came in the form of the second generation of bio-androids: the Kathasic Assault Module line, or KAMs. Completed in late June of 2003, they benefited not only from the correction of issues present in their predecessor units, as well as a more aggressive design from project lead Dr. Raven, but also a vastly improved programming scheme as more emphasis became placed on them. Having no emotions to hurt, they were treated more as actual cold-hearted killing machines than collective pets, and thus responded to orders much more promptly and effectively than the EVAs. On June 15th, 2003, a platoon of Power Men attacked MACHINE headquarters in Tokyo. Easily overwhelming the resident staff and defense personnel, the platoon stole the exhaustive meta-human registry and powers database MACHINE had compiled. With this data implemented into the memories of the Power Man and Bio Android lines, all of SAEMH's artificial soldiers gained direct insight on the AHS students, and were rendered not only capable of predicting their moves, but also exploiting their weaknesses. For the bio-android line, especially, this meant they could begin computing counterattack strategies for each and every AHS student, and have them fed to the Power Men as a databank of predetermined responses. However, in the process of analyzing these meta-human energy patterns and the signature wavelengths that various individuals utilized, it was also discovered that one common element was always present. Even in the purely human subjects they had field data on, a single underlying wavelength held the rest of the pattern together. And no matter how wild or uneven, or even outright unstable each person's powers or techniques, that single universal wave remained unchanged. It was, it seemed, the life signature of all living things on the planet, a characteristic charge naturally generated in even the simplest lifeforms. By isolating and either reflecting or eliminating this wave, the projection of energy by any subject would simply fall apart. What this discovery led to was the development of the psi-disruptor. By generating an electromagnetic field that ran counter to that universal charge, biological energies could be completely broken and diffused, rendering even the strongest meta-human completely powerless. It was, however, also non-lethal due to the fact that it merely countered energy that was already produced and distributed to the surface. While under the effects of the disruption, the individual could still produce enough energy to live and move, but would be able to do precious little else with it. In the conflicts that followed, the application of this technique would take many forms, from the advanced transphasic shields and weaponry of the bio android line, to more simplistic power-blocking collars used to imprison captured meta-humans. With all these tools, the KAM line would serve admirably in their duties during the month that followed. The data they computed, both in simulated combat and live-fire exercises against captured meta-humans, would be utilized in the refined Power Man and Uber Man designs. However, on August 20th, 2003, they would end up sharing their predecessors' fate. During the assault by AHS students upon the Shinjuku facility that day, units 1 and 3 would become trapped in their storage bays, and burn to death in the inferno that filled the complex. Unit 2, however, would deploy as ordered into the main level of the base, and engage two meta-humans (Yuki and Reyome) on sight. After outright executing the first, Unit 2 would severely wound the second, before being foiled by the intervention of a third individual named Gengoro. Escaping the destruction of the facility, the unit would take on the self-designation of Kam, and would go on to engage in self-directed anti-meta activities, often leading it into direct combat with the repaired EVA-1... |
