Brian held these new blades and immediately as they entered his hands Brian saw the inherent strengths that the blacksmith was speaking of. The Dadao was hefty yet the weight forward almost compelled Brian to chop down with it. The sword had a simple function and in that simplicity gave Brian an assurance that it could be picked up and wielded quickly.

While the other lighter blade did remind Brian of a katana, yet the length was far shorter. Brian felt the lightweight appeal and at the same time listening to the demon smith’s description knew that this blade would suit his fighting style later on far better than the simplistic Dadao. It was a frustrating impass now, if he went with either sword he’d be giving up positive traits from each.

It came down to what kind of swordsman he wanted to be down the line. His skill would grow as long as he pursued it. How long could he go without the immediate rewards that the Dadao provided? Or in learning the Dadao limit what he could learn in finesse from this mini katana.

Though his personal grudge was winning Brian was about to just pay the smith for a Dadao, Brian saw the forge, remembered the first offer that he’d gotten when walking into the shop. A custom sword, given the length in which they had already discussed blades and blade types Brian had a solid idea of what he wanted.

“These are both fine swords… even this… Uchigatana makes me rethink my bias against katanas as a whole. Yet I can’t help but feel like both these swords would limit me in the end. A solid foundation here with the Dadao or a potential for a great deal with this Uchigatana. Truth is I want it all, the crushing power and the sturdiness of the Dadao but the capability for fineness with the Uchigatana. I even like the one edge for a solid defense capacity. So… I guess I’ll need that very expensive custom sword you offered. I don’t have a design, so I’m sure that will cost extra as I need the sword not only envisioned by you to create for me. I’ll need the capability to bring it back and have it remade in any way that my sword fighting evolves.”

Brian smiled, being in business for himself for quite some time he knew the offer he was putting on this demonic blacksmiths doorstep. It meant a constant customer, someone who would repeat business and earn the smith a consistent income. Given his likely exuberant fees it would keep his shop afloat for the months to come.

“So. What do you say, willing to encourage a novice to great heights?”

Brian held out his hand to the demon smith, with a smile though as of yet they had been constantly been client, store owner. Brian was in a way suggesting they become a sort of friends, at least friends of circumstance since Brian needed a sword that would evolve as he did, and the smith looked like he could use the income.

“My name is Brian Ronin.”

"Well kiddo, So long you got the cash then I'll have the skill to make anything you need. Infact I do have an idea for you but it's going to cost since it's made from Mithril or how they call it here shiny silver metal." Drake said with a chuckle.

"I'm Drake and assassination is my game. Making swords is just a free time hobby of mine when I don't have anything else to do. Which I usually don't since humans are so easy to kill." Drake explained

"About your sword, I was thinking about using the concept of Uchigatana but then straight like that first sword you showed me also one edge of the blade will be wider then backside of the sword although the tip will have it's original appearance like the katana has and the handle will be wicked making you want to hold it right or you'll hand will have a couple cuts when you don't look out. Making it multifunctional" Drake suggested about the sword.

The word kiddo rang down to his ears, it was something that disturbing crossed his mind. Brian’s hand curled back, and fell back to his side, so it wasn’t to be a partnership. Purely business, though this final decision was after all how it should have been from the beginning. Brian’s embarrassment for thinking he could ask for more was drowned quickly.

The reveal that this sword smith’s primary source of income wasn’t the sword shop was a startling revelation, and at the same time his true occupation only seemed to reinforce the stereotypes that Brian felt towards demons. Those nagging assumptions about Demons and their violent natures turned out to be more well founded with each demon that he came across.

Brian physically signed as the details of the blade were gone over, this process sounded like it would be finished before he knew it. For all of his faults he at least performed his job to the best of his ability, and the sword sounded like it was going to be a fine blade and that it will serve every purpose he needs at this first stage of development. The training that he’d need to receive would be intense and likely just as harmful as the demon was suggesting of the handle.

“Sounds like everything is in order, I’d prefer if the actual blade was darker, not a shiny metal like this mithiral, but more like the blades I was looking at earlier.”

Brian pointed out some Damascus steel, for what Brian said he knew nothing about the process, the darkened metal and engraved pattern on the blades weren’t from the steel used but from the process of smelting.

“All that we need to discuss is the commission fee, so how much to get you started on the sword?”
