The tiny extra secret island of San Reyvers. Hidden in the Japan island chain and currently owned by the Mcjiggles entertainment group. Sponsor and parent company of Meta-blind date, the event and show to which these teenagers had been brought into. After the date the island would disappear from all means of transportation not owned by the entertainment corp. But besides being a tropical island, with quite a long stretch of pristine beach and beautiful clean waters the island has another great secret. Great lizards roam the island, dinosaurs brought back to life in an almost Jurassic park cliché. However there are other great lizards lurking around in some of the contestants.

As a public disclaimer both meta-blind date and Mcjiggles entertainment corp do not condone sexual relations between teenagers. All references to such is a jest and not to be taken seriously. If taken seriously you will be bopped over the head with a thirty nine year old Bulgarian mime.

The young dating couple were being shipped in tiny cardboard boxes along with ill selected bathing suits in a box as well. There was a food and drink stand on the beach, automated of course. But besides that they would be the only people alive on the beach.

"DAMNIT!"

A boomerang was hurled out to sea, covering nearly twenty meters before arching up and down, landing in the sand beside Sam's clothing. He had cracked open the cardboard box with some help from the standard blades, and was now standing on a beach. His white hair flickered in the breeze as his grey eyes scanned the horizon. Damn, nothing happening, no islands in sight.

And he was totally hopeless at swimming. You didn't do much swimming in Chicago.

His singlet top was paired with a pair of equally white swimming trunks, and Sam wondered if the guys who packed his stuff was actually thinking about snow camouflage when they stuffed the gear in with him. But either way, looking around, Sam found this completely hopeless. Not anyone in sight, really. But looking around, there was a small lodge with a machine that spat out food and drinks, it seemed, but nothing else except for the forest behind it.

Ah shit, this wasn't good.

This is some kind of sick joke, I just know it is.

Athena's nails tapped on the crate as she stayed in her box in her human form. She had been known to expect the unexpected, but to actually be shipped to an island in a cardboard box was something that she was not expecting. To make matters more interesting, she had much more difficulty with the box than should be considered. Searching in her other clothes, she finally decided to change in her slayer form. A set of claws sliced through the top of the box as she stumbled out once more quickly reverting back into her human form.

Coughing up sand, Athena looked around to get a better view of the area. At least she wouldn't have to worry about the cold here. Looking at her swimsuit, she couldn't help but think who had made this decision. Though it is a two piece bikini with a sarong, each piece was a different green. "I guess they must have been military," she said to herself. Dusting herself off, she slipped on her sandals and started to walk to the lodge while looking at the boy and smiling.

The box suddenly had a claw coming out of it, and Sam stumbled as he ran for his weapons. A set of five boomerangs, each bladed to a wicked edge. But the thing that greeted him was pink. It rolled, straightened up and Sam corrected himself. Pink haired. Err... with a green bikini and a sarong... right... looked like camouflage to him. He got up from his crouched over position, letting the steel heavy boomerang fall to the soft sand with a clink.

Who was this girl?

Military?

"Yeah... I reckon I'd fit right in in the snow..." Yeah, right.

Jogging over to her, Sam wondered exactly who she was, and what the hell she... no, they were doing all the way out here. Damn it! He caught up with the pink haired girl, noting at last that they both had weird hair colors, and falling in pace beside her.

"Uh... Do you know what's going on?"

His grey eyes searched for hers, and Sam stumbled on a driftwood log. White sandals clapped on a stone. The tattoos, a black donut with a red plus symbol or blue minus, depending on whether they paid attention to the back of the right or left hand, swung along with the hands that they were grafted on.

"Oh, and my name's Sam... Sam Rogan."

"I'm Athena Hirano, it's nice to meet you."

Athena shook his hand happily while giving him a big smile. For a moment, she noticed one of the signs on his hands. It seemed kind of odd to her at first. Perhaps he just really liked math. On the other hand, the plus and minus could just as easily mean other things as well. However, despite this brief moment of curiousity, she seemed to be pretty jovial considering the climate itself. It was just about ideal for someone like her. Her pink eyes started to scan the area as she blinked. "I think this is supposed to be for the blind date...which would mean that you must be him then." Athena continued to smile happily at him as she nodded her head. "This seems to be a pretty ribs place to have a date. To be honest, I never really went outside a lot of times."

"But somewhere would have been nicer, maybe?"

Smiling, he returned the shake, again noticing the tattoo that had been on his hand for so long... well, it was just a thing he did so that he could remember which tag came from which arm. It got confusing otherwise, so it wasn't too bad. Her oddly colored hair, and eyes, caught his attention. She was based around pink, it seemed. Well, he was the same, except maybe for a paler coloring. Some had commented that he looked like a ghost, grey eyes, white hair and almost pale skin in the winter.

But this was the beach! GET A TAN!

Hmm? Blind... date... er... could that have been the form he signed when he got the clipboard shoved in his face? That wasn't very smart, he knew, but the girl that had been shoving it in his face seemed like a good person to end up with... but this girl, it seemed better than the busty babe in the skimpy outfit.

For starters, she looked around his age.

He nodded in reply to her statement, although the term 'ribs' didn't really come up in his dictionary.

"I guess so... so, you want something to drink? They left me my wallet, and... It was a long trip here..."

Holding up the offending folded piece of woven fiber, Sam shrugged. It would be nice if he could enjoy his time with the girl, and getting some food or a drink in his stomach and hers would seem like a good way to break the ice... or paper, seeing as the heat around here seemed to prevent that happening.

"I don't know, this is a pretty nice place."

Athena continued to smile as she then sweatdropped. Inside her mind, she knew that she stumbled around in her words. She had been wanting to say something else, but it came out as ribs. Gah, what was I thinking? Ribs? Why on earth did I say ribs? No matter, can't really take it back she thought to herself. Nodding at the idea of a drink, she smiled at him again and said,"Sure!" Shaking off the last stumble she did, she looked at the dispensers that was placed here and a smile formed on her lips. Looking at the machines, she giggled to herself as she said,"If only I could be able to dismantle those things." She then turned to look at Sam and sweatdropped again. "Sorry about that, I forgot to mention that I dabble with mechanics."

"You have to admit, its really... ribs."

Grinning, Sam moved on, that jab about ribs wasn't too nice, but... it was just too tempting. He shook his head, and shrugged at the thought.

"Sorry... I just had to say it."

Ribs... eh, why not? It was just so open for her to get a poke at that. But she took him up on the drinks, and Sam kept pace with her as they walked to the small, shack, lodge thing. Well, not too bad.

He looked at the machines, and looked around to see if anything else was on the beach... they seemed alone, really. The boomerangs strapped to his back, well, hanging off his shoulder as he held the strap by his index fingers, clinked together. Maybe they could simply slice it open? Sam was sure that those machines were very much stronger than they seemed.

After all, these were AHS Students, albeit new ones.

Athena kept on with her musings, and Sam looked with a raised eyebrow. She knew her technology, eh? But the way she said it, it almost sounded like... a dark magic or something. Well, either way, it was her skills, so not much to be said until she showed him exactly how good she was with her mechanics.

"Ah, not too bad, at least you know about something..."

"Yeah."

Athena giggled to herself when he talked about ribs as well. At least he had a pretty good sense of humor. Looking at the device, she examined it closer before turning her head to look at Sam. "It was something that someone I knew told me when I was younger. He knew that there was this...thing...well...let's just say there was something about it that I didn't like to do unless I really had to do it. So he told me that if there was something that I really liked, I should stick to it. I always seemed to have a passion for some mechanics, and I was able to learn slowly and overtime I actually was helping out as a mechanic. That's how I was able to finance my way here." Poking the device, she then gave him a soft smile as she continued to speak. "How about you though? I find it difficult there isn't something that are not passionate about."

She was laughing, or rather, giggling. Not too bad, she was accepting his jab well. Sam guessed she had the same type of humour as he did. Well, that would be good for the both of them. He smiled back, and looked around the place. Not much to do, but then again, two kids could get a lot done with a single boomerang, right? Playing catch was easy, as long as the blades weren't used.

Athena began her musings on what she did and why, Sam listened and wondered on what he did and why. He fought, back in Chicago. Protecting his home turf, with his gang and to keep the others off. Too many humans wanting to kick a metahuman skull in... Leon...

They fought back, and they had powers. With the Old Man's guidance, they also learnt strategy.

A question was shot in his direction, and Sam's thoughts became his words.

"I guess... I protect. Its what I do. Back where I lived... we had to fight or die. People were afraid of metahumans... my older brother died because he looked like a metahuman... I don't know whether he actually had powers..."

Sam's eyes were cast out to sea, sweeping across the horizon. Leon... are you happy with me right now?

"And... I guess I like making things out of metal. I made these boomerangs... they're my... I think my third set."

Pulling a boomerang out for inspection, Sam handed the heaviest one to Athena. It wasn't that he liked showing off, it was that the other four had blades built into them. They literally sliced through the air. Yeah, they were his third set. A piece of his first metal boomerang was around his neck right now. It had a rather funny story behind it, but that would be for later.

"I really like making things."

"I understand."

Athena actually knew where Sam was coming from. Especially when it comes to "fight or die". Many of her worse memories came from that kind of statement. Most of the time she had to fight as much as she could in order for survival to be maintained. It was a bad time for many of her kind, but then again there had been a sense of solidarity in their race. Death had been almost a second life for her as well. A sense of sympathy was in her eyes until she looked at the boomerang cruiously. Grunting slightly, she held the boomerang in both hands as she examined it. She really didn't know how to even wield such a weapon by the look in her eyes. It seemed that she never really encountered such an item before. Her pink eyes however lit up when she heard him say that he made things as well. Almost without a hitch, she said while holding the boomerang,"You know what I think of when I hold this thing? It being attatched to a retractable chain system."

"Hmm?"

Sam looked at her, almost confused as the fact that she could actually see what he had done and what his friends and family had been through. He wondered what had happened to her. She seemed alright enough, looked like someone who wouldn't have to deal with a bad reputation because of their blood. But then again, she was a meta, wasn't she?

That was enough of an excuse, especially for the gangs he had come across in his life.

Kudo's for the girl for not asking if he was from Australia. The steel design of the boomerangs came from India, actually, although he actually took the shape from an Australian one his mentor gave him. Looking around, and giving Athena time to examine his weapon of choice, Sam looked back as she suggested something very close to what he thought.

His mouth cracked into a grin.

"Actually... its kind of like that... just that I don't use a clumsy chain, although Rena used something similar..."

Pulling out another pair of boomerangs, Sam hefted his slicers. One was palmed, energy of some sort flowing into it and forming in a 'tag'. A circle, with a plus symbol on it. Sam hurled the boomerang into the nearest tree, embedding it into the wooden trunk. Palming the next one in his hand, the left hand threw the steel shard out to sea. Instantly, it was pulled towards the first one. Shooting past the two, the boomerang planted itself into the wood beside the other boomerang, and stopped.

"Yeah... There's my powers for you."

Showy, he knew, but intimidation tactics had worked just as well as a gun back then...

"Hehe."

Athena smiled happily as he told her about her abilities. She walked over to the tree that he struck and placed her hand on it gently. He was going to have to know eventually, might as well tell him now. Hopefully he wouldn't think of her as one of the creatures on this island. "I on the other hand..." Athena's voice trailed off as she closed her eyes. Her pink hair started to fall out of her head, leaving her bald as her skin started to quiver. Her body started to turn pink until it actually turned to scales. She clenched her teeth, forming fangs as she raised her hand and brought it down. At the moment her nails were going to graze the trunk, a set of claws appeared in her hand. Her pink eyes were the only thing that looked human as she slowly turned to look at Sam. "This is what I really am."

She smiled. Well, again, that was good, at least. He walked over to retreive his tagged weapons. Still almost humming to himself, Sam pulled out a glove, the inside sewn with a steel plate, scarred and chipped. Well, catching bladed weapons did that to a glove.

"Careful Athena, those things are bladed."

I, on the other hand...

She trailed off, something wrong?

Sam looked at the girl with barely hidden curiosity. What's wrong? He stepped sideways, trying to see her face behind the veil of light pink hair. Strands of that hair fell to the soft, sand covered grass at their feet. The entire head of pink scattered in the breeze, and Sam instinctively turned his head. He had hung out with more than one shapeshifter, and looking at them change was... bizarre, and rude.

The shifting of sand stopped, and Sam turned to face... a dragon type thingy. Scaly, pink limbs hung from an equally scaly body. All of it... pink. Sam found himself... staring, almost. It was a bit of a shock, but... no buts, it was a shock, full stop.

"Well... its who you are... at least you don't look like an old man..."

To emphasize, the wind blew strands of Sam's long white hair into his face. He had seen quite a few things in his short stay in AHS, and this had to take the cake. But...

Pink walking dragons... they were kind of funny to look at.

"Noted and before you say something, I know you have a feeling about being a little strange with my pink scales. Sometimes I think myself as a scaled version of bubblegum...or cotton candy. Anyway, that's kind of the reaction I was expecting. It's kind of hard to look very menacing when you look like something that doesn't exactly instill fear in the hearts of your enemies. But yeah, you have a good point about not being an old man. That would have been very awkward if I was really one in disguise wouldn't it?" Even though it would have sounded that Athena was slightly feeling sorry for herself, but she had been poking fun at herself. It was something that she felt was necessary so that it would help remove the sense of shock within Sam. Smiling at him with fanged teeth, Athena looked at the beach and asked him. "Would you like to do something?"

Sam... just looked. A quick up and down of his eyes, then they fixed back to Athena's eyes. The girl seemed to deflate, to some extent. Er... why was this happening? It seemed that both of them didn't get much luck in the color area. He looked like an old man, and she looked like something out of a Saturday morning show for kiddies. More in common, he supposed.

Athena began to speak. Bubblegum, cotton candy? Wait wait wait! Sam shook his head in disbelief. What the hell was this all about, anyway?

"We both have bad luck when it comes to coloring, huh?"

Smiling weakly and trying to pull his train of thought back on track, the white haired kid shrugged. She really didn't seem to be ashamed of her form, more... disappointed. Well, she would make a big hit in Live Action kiddie shows, but... that was embarassing. Either way, Sam tried to smile as she spoke about being an old man.

"Yeah... that would be creepy... was I meant to be scared?"

In that sense, Sam would have happily given tips on how to make pink scary. But...

"At least I didn't run away screaming 'freak', right?"

Don't worry about that, Sam was a freak in his own right. At least, he thought he was, anyway.

"Nah, I was just trying to make you feel a little bit uneasy with a little bit of fooling around. Plus I kind of got used to the whole freak thing. I don't show my form for...other reasons."

Knowing that this is starting to get a little bit on the serious side. Looking around, she gazed out into the ocean and smiled. "Come on." Gesturing him to follow her, the pink scaled slayer walked over to the edge of the ocean and let the waves crash on her legs and feet. Though a small shiver went down her spine, the cold wasn't as bad here. To her, this kind of cold was pretty pleasant compared to the alternative. Walking deeper to the ocean, she put the sarong around her shoulders while waving at him. "Come on in! The water's pretty warm." Athena was glad about the place that was selected. She could be able to be in the water without having to worry about literally catching her death of cold. Her pink scales shined in the sun, giving them a metallic hue to them as she smiled sweetly with a fanged grin.

"Ah..."

Was this a test? Of some sort? Er... well, hopefully he passed. Maybe not with flying colors, but with enough dignity to look at Athena, maybe. This was getting too serious, thankfully the pink girl actually shared that sentiment, smiling and walking off to the ocean. Well, that might be better for the two of them. A smile creased onto his face, and Sam shrugged, dropping his harness to the soft sand, and jogging to catch up with Athena.

Feeling the waves crash against his ankles, the soft sand between his toes, and Athena, framed by the falling sun. By his guess, it was nearing five-six in the afternoon.

"Warm, huh?"

They both had different ideas about warm, it seemed.

"Yeah... warm..."

He looked at her, and then out at the sea. Briefly wondering where they were, Sam shrugged at the thought. Glancing back at Athena, she flashed him a rather toothy grin. A thought flashed in his mind. Grinning, the white haired kid looked back, and turned to face her. He put on a nervous look, pulling his arms up and mockingly defending himself.

"You're not going to eat me, are you?"

Breaking into a grin, Sam's hands dropped to his side as he walked over to Athena.

"Sorry... had to do that with the teeth and all..."

At first Athena had a small smile on her face. But soon that smile grew larger until finally she started to erupt in laughter. Her hands were on her knees as she continued to laugh loudly. Tears were falling from her eyes while she laughed heartily. Eventually the laughter died down as she wiped the tears from her eyes. "Sorry about that Sam, I was thinking of something completely different when you said that," she said between laughs. As she moved in the sunset, the last rays of the sun hit her pink scales, giving her more or an interesting shine to her scales. It almost looked like she was a part of the sunset as she moved with the waves. The waves crashed against her scales, showing signs of some of the salt clinging to the surface as she looked down at her upperbody before looking at Sam again. "Do you want to get something to eat or would you like to continue this in the water," she said with a smile on her face.

She smiled, shook with laughter and bent over double. Well, there could have been worse reactions. Sam kept his composure, smiling, but soon joined in. But not as gut shaking as Athena's laughter, his voice still joined with hers. Thankfully she didn't take it as an insult. Lizard-women seemed to be rather weird. Sam looked as the scales reflected the light off the water, and from the sun. Wow, it was a really... neat effect.

"Something else?"

Eh?

Sam had to smile, trying to cover up the fact that he didn't really know what that 'something else' was about. Oh boy, what was this going to lead towards? The boy didn't know, so he stood silently, smiling. The sun continued to blaze, and Sam found himself walking over, standing a little more than three feet from Athena.

"Hmm, I think we'll make a few splashes first."

And with that, he bent over, scooped up some water and dumped it on Athena's head.

Grinning, Sam shrugged.

"And maybe after, you'll let me get you some food, okay?"

"Alright."

Athena gave Sam a mischiveous look as she smiled at him. Lowering herself in the water with only her pink eyes locked onto his, she let her arms do the talking. Grinning, she splashed Sam back in response in a couple of quick waves from her arms. Continuing to smile, she floated on her back and laughed. "Watch this." Giggling, she started to use what was inherent in her body: her natural speed. With the water being warm, she definitely could be able to do this. With all of her strength, she started to swim around him in a circle at a very fast pace. Giggling, she looked at him for a moment while smiling. "What do you think? Probably good for the olympics huh?" Smiling happily, she continued to swim around him on her back while she smiled happily. She seemed to enjoy the warm water.

He was ready, the twinkling of the eye gave it away. Sam dove into the water, finally resurfacing with a wet head of hair.

Suddenly, he spat out a mouthful of seawater. Sputtering and spraying salt all over the place, he poked out his tongue in disgust. Eyes burning, bad taste in his mouth and he could feel that cut he had gotten earlier on burn in pain.

"What the hell? The water tastes weird..."

Yeah, this is probably the time to mention that this was his first trip to the beach, really. Not much else to say about it, other than Sam now had a bad taste in his senses, and has just learned that sea water and salt water are one and the same.

And he also had a reptilian shark swimming around him. Sam wiped his mouth with his bare hand, only to find (maybe to his dismay) that it only added to the salt in his lips.

But Athena had asked a question, and he was going to answer!

"I'd think you'd fit right in with sharks, too..."

Smiling, he splashed a small amount of the now rather disgusting water at her.

"Tastes wierd...?"

Athena blinked a couple of times through the ocean water as she smiled. "Hehe, well I like to think that I have the teeth for the job," she said while showing him a glint of her fangs. But then she floated up next to him on her back while looking at him curiously. "But Sam, have you ever been out on the ocean before," she asked with an innocent expression. Her hand went through the water gently as she looked up at the setting sun. "The reason why this water is much different is because of the higher levels of salt in the water. That's why it burns so much. I guess...I guess the best example I can really give is when you rub salt on an open wound you know?" Floating upright once more, she looked at a wave and then had an idea. She had spent time at the beach with her "adopted" family and positioned her body to catch the wave. Once she did that, she started to bodysurf all of the way to the shore while laughing. "Weeee!"

"Like Tara putting salt in my drink bottle... yuck."

A common prank of his younger sister's, actually.

Her fangs flashed in the dying sunlight, pale orange as the sun finally touched the horizon. She really could pass off as a shark... with a far more humanoid figure, of course... A shiver went up Sam's spine. Cold... and fear... she could be scary, of course...

"No, actually... I haven't ever been out like this..."

Shrugging, Sam nodded. It was an old saying, but he hadn't ever tried it. Even on enemies that he truly hated. It wasn't really very much to try. There were other, more effective methods to use.

"Athena..."

What was she doing?

Sam began to jog in the water, stumbling and falling all the way back to shore. It was so much faster to be like Athena. Oh dear... he started flailing and kicking, body-tumbling forward and crashing to the seashore, breathless and tired.

"Now I know why I don't swim too much..."

Coughing out... seaweed, wasn't it? Sam looked up at Athena.

That wouldn't have looked good.

"Here...let me help you."

Taking the seaweed away from him carefully, Athena tossed back into the ocean and looked at Sam. It seemed that he didn't have his sea legs. "Wait right here," she said with a smile on her face. She became a pink blur and almost in an instant she was back to where the dispenser was. She had only been there for a few seconds when she came back with a couple of glasses of water. Sitting down next to Sam, the sun caught the pink scales on her body continued to shine in the sun. While she continued to give off the shine, she looked at Sam with a soft smile and handed him a glass of fresh water. "Here you go, I think you would want that taste out of your mouth before trying to eat something."

"Thanks."

Rolling over to a more seated position, Sam sat up on the beach, his eyes looking down at the cup pushed under his nose. Small reflections lit up his body, where small scars, cuts and abrasions showed up. They were old wounds, as where Sam lived was a practical battlefield. Had. Chicago had been thoroughly destroyed, to be honest. Oh well, it happened. They had taken it with a numb realization, but... most of his loved ones had gotten away... most.

"Oh... right."

Snapping back to reality, Sam brought the cool liquid up to his lips, and sucked the small container dry. Cold, icy water rushed down his throat, and he smiled as he looked around the place. It was an almost perfect scene, in his mind. While he would have liked someone of his own species rather than a dragon girl, her personality certainly outweighed the fact she had scales over skin.

"So, you want to go and get something to eat now?"

Hunt it, as Sam had realized that some things moved around in that forest, or buy it, that would be her call. As long as it wasn't human, he'd eat it.

"Alright."

Athena smiled sweetly as she walked over to the dispenser again. As she studied the machine, she wondered how best to have it dispense food again. She rubbed her chin slowly as she started to poke the dispenser with the tip of her claw. For a moment, she had thought that she had to do something else for getting food. She continued to poke the device until she accidentally "sapped" the dispenser. Immediately it sprayed into face salsa for a quick burst of spiciness and coughed. Wiping it from her eyes, she attempted to reason with the dispenser again and eventually was able to get a pair of bratwurst and a couple slices of pizza. Smiling in triumph, she walked over to her date with a smile on her face and little pieces of onion, cilantro and jalepeno on her face.

Reaching the dispenser, Sam whistled in admiration. It was a coke machine on steroids. Athena went up to it confidently, despite him being sure that she wasn't carrying any money. Unless those scales could pass for coins. Tight fitting bikini swimsuits also threw the doubt out of the window. He reached behind him, clawing at his wet pants for the wallet in his pockets.

But then she had to touch the machine.

To be frank, he thought that the entire system had gone haywire. Sam was tempted to break out his heavy boomerang and simply hack and slash the thing into oblivion when it spurted out salsa into Athena's face, but it seemed she had reigned control over it. The machine spat out their dinner, and Sam smiled weakly.

"Normally, I'd have to say that it would have been better to simply pay... but... the salsa on your face says otherwise."

He grinned, and reached for the towels, offering it to Athena. She was still a girl, and on top of that had razor sharp teeth. That was more than enough push to avoid being rude with the towel. Although... he flippantly wished for Athena's human form. It was... well, more his species and type.

"Thanks."

Setting her food down, she rubbed off the salsa until she felt it was completely off. "Now that's been removed, I can do this once more." Closing her eyes, her scales started to shift slowly back into human skin and began to revert back to normal. "I would have done it sooner, but I forgot about it. Good thing I was scaled at the moment. It would be pretty bad since I had a feeling it was spicy. Hold on..." her voice trailed off as she took a small amount of the salsa onto her finger and licked it off. Immediately her eye started to twitch and began to cough. "Yeah, it is spicy," she said while talking as if her entire mouth was dry. She immediately grabbed her water and quickly drained it. Placing the glass on the ground, she took a deep breath and sweatdrop. "Well, that was kind of embarassing," she said with a sweatdrop.

Hey, manners, right? Especially when the girl in front of you has incisors that can cut butter better than your knife. That would have bee a scary thought, until Athena shifted back into her human form. Sam was polite about it, and looked out to sea. He wondered why she didn't bother to at least walk out of sight. But then again, she must have been raised differently, seeing as the shapeshifter he knew freaked out whenever anyone was around while it (Yeah, it. Seeing as how said shapeshifter switched between male and female forms on an almost daily basis, you never knew)

Sam nodded at her statement, and then smiled as she began to splutter and cough, clearly that thing was spicy. She drained her cup, and he offered his. Out of pure curiosity, he dipped his finger in a piece of salsa sauce, and licked it. Well, apparently she was right. Water gathered in his eyes, and it took a lot of effort for him not to burst out coughing. Instead, he let his face go read and gain temperature as he nodded again, hoping the wind chill would cool down the chili.

"Yeah... I-I guess you're right..."

Damn, no cooling liquids on his end of things.

"You want to get some more drinks? I'll pay, because I don't think this stuff (point at salsa) is as good for our faces as avocado paste."

"Sure."

Athena smiled sweetly as she giggled. Personally she wasn't sure what he meant by that. Small beads of sweat rolled down her now lighter face as she looked up at Sam. There was still a bright pink color to her cheeks from the salsa that she had tried. Running her hand through her hair, she could tell that it had been already starting to regrow back to the length that it used to be again. The process to regrow hair is varied with each slayer. She wasn't sure how long she would need to wait to get her hair back to its normal length. At least she didn't have to worry about being bald for a while. But her mind went back to when he was talking about avacado. She remembered having some with a sandwhich and it was pretty good. But she didn't think it was something to put on one's face. To her, it seemed as strange as putting other fruits on one's face and some burn more than others.

Sliding up to a standing position, Sam walked quickly over to the machine, putting in a few coins. The vender chugged once. Twice. It spat out a pair of cans, which was retrieved and pulled away. Jogging back to Athena, Sam sat down on the soft sand and smiled as he offered a can of cold coke to her. Well, her hair was noticeably re-growing again, and he presumed it was one of the weaker links in the chain.

"Here. Cold cola."

Grinning, he cracked his own one open, the liquid hiss almost like music to his ears. Finally, something familiar. He took a quick gulp of it, and then looked at Athena. She actually was rather funny, definitely easy on the eyes, and... what was he thinking!? Sam shook his head clear, trying to think straight as he glanced back at the sea, white hair still plastered to his head.

"So, I guess this is the first time someone's dragged you out to the middle of nowhere?"

Oddly enough, he'd been dragged by the back of his pants out to the middle of nowhere, albeit still in Chicago, and then left to fend for himself.

"Thank you."

Athena looked at the soda for a moment while smiling. She had been thinking that if she had been a slayer, the cold would have affected her much more than if she was in her human form. Opening the can, she took a sip from her can as she looked out into the distance. "I guess you could say that. I never really travelled abroad before." Searching around, she sweatdropped while giggling. "If I had my wallet, I could show you a picture I have with my family." Of course, what she means by family were another pack of slayers. They brought her in because they knew who she was and didn't want her to be off in the open where she could be the target of the government. It was something that none of them would swear on another slayer with the exception of Typhon.

He sipped more of his cola, eating some of the pizza, too. Athena... he was confused about all this. Sam shook his head clear, trying to think about things straight. What was this, anyway? The girl was human again, so he could relate to her more. Relate the name more to his... well, feelings. Right now he wasn't head-over-heels for her, but he liked her, nonetheless.

"I got mine, but not much in it. I have a habit of losing my wallets, so nothing much more than money in there."

He shrugged. His family... They were an odd bunch, and it was more like a large community of people who weren't blood related to him. The lot of them were in it together, defending their own against the wandering gangs who beat up others just for the hell of it. Sam sighed. He had been one of the middle-level guardians of his home.

"Ah, my family's a little wierd, but small. Both parents, younger sister, grandfather... almost. He's not blood, but he's my mentor. He taught me how to make these."

Sam lifted up the steel boomerangs to emphasize. He wanted to know more about Athena, and it was mostly a personal thing. The boy smiled, stabbing the metal wing into the sand. He turned to face Athena.

"So how about your family? How are they?"

"Well, they're okay."

Athena smiled softly as she thought about those who had brought her into their pack and began to sip her soda slowly. "They had this garage down in southern california. An honest mom and pop store. It's where I was finally able to improve on my craft. I learned how to work with machines with the various cars that were out and about in the garage. It was pretty good work since they were honest. People like that we were honest, so they usually come back on a daily basis." Taking another sip from her can, she continued to remember from what she had done. "I started out pretty young with a wrench, but I was very willing to learn and I did so well that they actually paid me some of the money from each car. Eventually I was able to save up enough money to go to Japan." She didn't say why she came to Japan in the first place. It didn't seem like something that he would really understand.

California. Practically the other side of the USA from Sam's home town, but still the USA nonetheless. He wasn't patriotic, but he was territorial. His family and friends all fought for their turf, and it was good to know someone else who had lived close from home.

"Thank god, someone who'se from the USA!"

He grinned, listening to the rest of her story. She was a mechanic? Wow, impressive. He waited for her, listened to every word. "A constructive talent. Something I don't really have." Sam shrugged. He could fight, good enough to beat the crap out of Blake's goons, and that wasn't very hard. "I could only fight. I can tag, but otherwise... I was just scum people kept away from. So were my family, so was my neighborhood. We didn't have cops, they were afraid of metas."

And she paid her way here. Sam nodded his head. "I got displaced. My family came here because they didn't try and blow up our house just because we were metahumans." He sighed. Not a good conversation piece.

"Hm?"

Athena blinked a couple of times when he said that. She wasn't really sure what he meant by that considering that she had yet to be in the school yet. She had believed that the school would be able to take lives from all countries, but then again she could be wrong. Either way, he seemed to be very greatful that she was from the same country that he was from. She listened to him as she took another sip from her soda. In her mind, she had wondered what he meant by "tag". To her, to "tag" something was to give a slayer an identification number or a toe tag when someone dies. However, she had been curious about what happened to his family. Looking at him with a sense of curiousity in her eyes, she asked him innocently,"What do you mean they? Did someone try to hurt your family?"

"Oh... yeah, I don't think there's many people about who were from the USA. Most of the time they're from Japan, or somewhere. This guy I know, Mark. He's... from everywhere..."

Sam shrugged, remembering the person. The guy was a mercenary, who was born on a ship in the middle of the Pacific, if he remembered the guy's introduction well. The white haired boy was especially interested in Mark because he shared many traits as with Leon, his own, older brother. One who was supposed to be turning eighteen this year. If he hadn't died those many years ago.

Turning around, he saw confusion on her face. Sam thought about it, and didn't see anything that was off with his explanations he had given. To him, tagging involved a can of spray paint and a surface. For him, it was mostly a human's face, or property belonging to a particularly open anti-meta. Of course, it was marking the place for further destruction, seeing as Liam always was itching to release his fire-style.

"They. People who wanted to kill meta-humans. They didn't like us. Not just my family either, mind you. I think it started a decade back, when Liam - he's a good friend of mine - accidentally burned a child's hand when his fire touch came to life. The kid's father tried to kill Liam, and got himself really badly burned. Then it just escalated. They tried to kill us, Miranda and I would go and find where they lived, and more often than not we'd tag the place so that Liam could put his handprints all over the place. We tried not to get people hurt, but the local human gangs were just doing the best they could to kill us. Raids, ambushes, booby trapped alleyways... Miranda was murdered a few years back. She got caught by them. They..."

He paused. The police hadn't even done more than a mugging-went-wrong investigation. They didn't seem to notice the fact that her clothes were missing, and that for the amount of cuts and bleeding on her body, there wasn't much blood spattered about the place. The didn't notice that half her body was bruises. They didn't even see the fact that her neck had a rope tied around it. Sam clenched his teeth. He still remembered Miranda as that happy, auburn haired girl who could literally disappear in his eyes. Not the bruised, bloodied cadaver lying in the alley. "They executed her. If you call it that. Dumped her body in the alley just out of our neighborhood. It had been about two days after she got caught..."

Sam remembered Liam's face, after he had been forced to identify his lover's body. The boy stopped himself, stopped the surfacing memories. They were too painful. His hands grabbed the soda, and he downed a third of it. "We got them back." His voice was but a pale, pained whisper. Burning houses filled his mind. They had given the families five minutes to grab whatever they thought were needed, and then torched the houses of those responsible. It was a brutal vengeance, he knew. Sam's eyes re-focused. That was why he never felt anger over Miranda's death. That was why he only felt bitter sadness. "I'm sorry, I went too far."

"Athena... my family came here because we lived in Chicago. Got blown up. That was the main reason."

"...."

Athena listened to Sam's story intently while looking into his eyes. She found it ironic that she would have been spared for the good of "national security" and his family would be persecuted. It didn't seem right, and in fact it was downright unfair. He and his family shouldn't have been targeted in such a way. If you had to punish one race, then it should be uniform for all people. But she knew that in reality that it would never happen. There were other factors that had to be considered like money or power. That was how she knew that it would not change anytime soon. As he talked about Chicago, she closed her eyes. She had heard about the story too. Though she wasn't sure if any slayer packs were there at the time, but she had heard the stories of devastation that had occured. The loss of life was great. Though she wasn't sure about her family, she knew that it would affect her as greatly as if she was in his position. Looking at him with concern in her eyes, she then moved closer to him and gave him a hug. She didn't say anything, but the emotion was there.

That was all he could say. All he could think about was why he actually spilled so much about his previous life before being here. Sam's insides churned as he looked at Athena, and then away. He looked into the sand, his thoughts grinding to a halt as the last few moments returned to him. He had completely indulged his personal history to someone he barely knew. Athena knew now... knew about his past and about what had happened to him. It was trivial, a story repeated across the world now. Metahuman versus human. It was the power they held in the palms of his hands that made it so hard for them to be like this. It was so wrong, sometimes, that some meta got it in their head to kill every human in sight. Sam stopped them as many times he had stopped humans from doing the same.

Looking into the countless grains of sand beneath his head, Sam felt her arms wrap around him. He kept silent, feeling Athena embrace him as he sullenly remembered coming here. It was a relief, finding Japan. As he felt her hair brush against his bare shoulders, Sam looked up at her, his eyes soggy and ready to burst. He wasn't empathic. But he knew he could say that she was caring for him, in her own way. "Thank you." His voice hoarse, Sam's tattooed hand grazed her wrist. "Athena, I'm sorry I dumped this on you." He looked at her, and sighed. "And I'm sorry I said all that. I just... I don't know, its something about you, or something about where we are..." He shrugged. Sam drew his forearm across his face, and wiped away the tears.

"I guess I can't keep my mouth shut."
