She had heard that the courtyard was the heart of the campus, and now that she was standing there herself, she could see why. Hanabi walked down the stone paths, the wind blowing through her blond hair as she looked at the grounds of her new school, a thoughtful look in her eyes. This was the first time that she had ever been away from home. When her mother brought up the suggestion of Anime High School, she had never thought her father would actually allow her to go. Apparently, since she wasn't the heir, just another head family girl destined for the branch family when her father died, what she did in her training didn't matter as much as what her brother did. It was a good thing that who was head family and who was branch didn't really matter to Hanabi all that much. "It's nice, isn't it, Serafeim?" asked Hanabi, smiling at the small orange bird that was flying above her. The orange bird, known as Serafeim, flew down towards her, perching gently on her outstretched hand. Serafeim looked around him with a critical eye, as if surveying the area that his master would be spending four years of her life in. "If this is what you wish, Lady Hanabi," said the orange bird-like summon, turning back to her. It was obvious that Serafeim thought little about her decision to leave the clan house and train at Anime High School, but he wasn't about to disagree with his master. Hanabi's blue eyes drifted from the bird towards the skies. She could almost feel Serafeim's wish to return to the air, but he was holding himself back, awaiting her order. "Would you like to fly, Serafeim?" asked Hanabi. "Whatever my lady wishes." "I wish for you to do as you like," said Hanabi, frowning slightly, "You know you don't have to be so formal with me, Serafeim. Parisa isn't." Serafeim cast her a look that conveyed volumes about what he thought about Parisa, before spreading his wings and taking to the air again. Hanabi watched him go for a moment. Serafeim was the best summon she could have asked for, but he tended to be really strict and overprotective. Having Serafeim on her side was probably one of the reasons why her father had let her leave in the first place. She sighed, before continuing to walk down the stone path, her summon keeping a watchful eye on her from above. |

Soutaro, a young boy with silver hair had actually walked through the door like he was a ghost. He was not phased by this since he s now used to doing things like that. He wasn't really looking around at anything. He had a sword on his back that had a long blade at each end. He stoppd when his eyes did look up from his book. His light purple eyes gazed at Hanabi. on the stone path. His silver hair covered one eye. He stood there for a moment. He had forgotten that he was still on the steps because when he took a step forward he fell down the remaining stairs and landed face first. Placing his hands on the ground ear his head, he pushed himself up onto his knees. He went to pick up his book but the moment he did his hand phased right through it and he dropped his book. "Dang it..." He said as he kept rying but the same thing kept happening. "Guess this is what I get for looking at a cute girl," He was blushing. |

A crash from behind her made Hanabi turn around, her eyes widening as she spotted the silver-haired boy on the ground. She quickly ran over to him, Serafeim following close behind through the air as he noticed his master running off. She watched in surprise as he pulled himself up to his knees, his hand passing straight through his book as he attempted to pick it up. For a girl that had seen only normal humans and the members of the clan up until now, that came as a bit of a surprise to her, but it became quickly apparent that this person needed help. "Are you all right?" she asked, bending down to pick up his book and handing it to him. "You aren't hurt, are you?" She extended one slender hand towards him to help him up, watching him with concern. She hoped that he wasn't hurt too badly. She hadn't yet been bound to any healing summons, so her abilities in that area were very limited. Serafeim flew downwards, perching on her shoulder as he studied this new person with a critical eye. "Lady Hanabi, he has a sword," said the summon. "That hardly matters, Serafeim," said Hanabi, a slight hint of impatience in her voice. She knew that Serafeim meant well, but she had eyes. She noticed the sword already. She didn't think he would do anything to hurt her, after all. The orange bird seemed to sense her impatience, because he fell silent. Even his master's patience had limits. |

Patricia was reading a small not classes related book she had gotten at the school's library. It was a romantic novel very much alike the ones she always saw Yomiko devour with so much fervor. She took her time, unlike her tutor. She wan't really fond of books, but still tried to do what her master did... even the most insignificant thing, just like reading preferences. It had been a week or so since her arrival now, and Patricia's temper was beginging to change thanks to the advice of that teacher she loved the most. She wore her lightblue pullover over the female school uniform. The uniform wasn't comfortable at all, and she didn't like it, but it was a rule to wear it during classes. Classes had long since ended, so she had come to this place, hoping to receive some of the remaining sunlight. She had noticed her skin was needing it. It was slowly losing her usual vanilla tone. After all, she had been spending most of her time inside the School's Library, thing that wasn't doing her skin any good. She was sitting next to the side of the large steps, near where Soutaro had fallen. Distracted from her lecture, she leaned over a little to a side to see clearly what was going on. There was boy who apparently could phase thru things, judging from his vanishing hand. And there was a girl trying to help him, with a small bird flying next to her. Probably a familiar of sorts. Maybe the blonde girl had the ability to speak to animals? Patricia knew of both such powers, having grown under the BLSOB's wing. After that quick glance, she noticed the girl was younger than her... And it somehow reminded her of Annie from the Paper Sisters. This made her feel a bit nostalgic, and couldn't help but make herself noticed. "Are you guys ok?", she asked in her english tone. Her voice was strong but toned down so the boy and girl wouldn't startle that much. |

Soutaro was still blushing. "Thanks." He said as he took the book from her. When he heard another girl speak he didn't jump but he did blush more. "Sorry, sometimes if I lose my focus things phase right out of my grasp." He said to them. "But, it could have been worse. I've been know to go into the wrong locker room and end up phasing right into the girls locker room." He suddenly realized that by him saying that he might had just made himself out to be a weirdo. "I'm not a weirdo or anything like that I swear." He quickly explained. "It's just that sometimes when I am not careful I phase when I don't want to. Or worse when I do and I end up going through one fall and landing hard on the next. Anyways my name is Soutaro but everyone calls me Sou." |

Hanabi turned, hearing another voice talking to her. The newcomer was a tall, blond girl with blue eyes. She looked a lot older than Hanabi, both in age and personality. A sempai, perhaps? It seemed like she was meeting a lot of new people on her first day. She smiled at the girl. "Yes, we're quite fine, but thank you for your concern, sempai," she said in a cheerful voice, giving her upperclassman a polite bow before turning back to the silver-haired boy. Her father would have been proud. She had handled the situation like any proper Shikikawa lady, using honorifics to greet her superiors and remembering to bow. Things like those had become second nature to Hanabi after fifteen years of living as a member of the Shikikawa clan. The silver-haired boy continued to speak, saying that his powers involved phasing and that he didn't have full control over them. Her smile never wavered as she listened to his speech, although she did look taken aback for a moment when he mentioned going into the girl's locker room by accident. She would have to remember to post one of her summons as a lookout one of these days. Soutaro...another name to remember. She smiled, always glad to make new friends. He seemed like a nice person, although he did look a lot younger than she was, maybe about her little brother's age. "It's nice to meet you, Sou-kun," she said, tacking the honorific onto the end of Soutaro's nickname. It was a little bit hard to be formal with him, now that she had made the comparison between him and her brother. "My name is Hanabi Shikikawa. I'm a freshman here. Oh, and this is Serafeim, my summon." "Pleased to meet you, Soutaro-dono, miss..." said Serafeim, even more formally than she did. Hanabi suddenly realized that if the bird could bow, he would. No matter what he thought of people, Serafeim was always so formal. It made her wonder for a moment exactly what her summon thought of her. Was she a capable Shikikawa summoner, or an irresponsible brat in Serafeim's eyes? |

"Sempai...?¨ Patricia's soft voice hinted her confusion. Sempai was a word she had heard before, but not around here. Of course, she thought, Michelle used to call Yomiko that way because their age difference was not as noticiable as with Annie or Patricia herself, who called Yomiko 'big sister' despite she was the girls' tutor. Both of them had been raised in Japan, so such language became common between all girls. After realizing what it meant, her cheeks slightly reddened and she smiled at Hanabi. She didn't considered herself as a sempai, she was as new as a freshman around this place Her smile uncurled from her lips completely once she heard the boy's statement. Patricia dropped her book in one of the pullover's pokets, straightened up, dusted herself a bit, and walked towards the boy stomping her feet. You shouldn't say things like that to other students, let alone to girls. So anger was an obvious reaction from her, given the situation. Despite he tried to apologize himself, she didn't stop her march. Not until she heard the younger blond girl present herself, as Hanabi, and her bird, Serafeim, a summon. Sumoon was another word Patricia was familiar with, but had never seen one first hand. Then the bird introduced itself very formally. This made Patricia freeze on the spot. She surely hadn't expected that one coming. Well, the Joker (her boss) had warned her of such things. In AHS she'd have to expect everything. it was a world of its own, he had said. It took her a couple of seconds to recover from this. Before she introduced herself, she dusted off some more and noticed Hanabi lost in thought for a mere second. Having taken care of Annie for a more that a year, she became capable of detecting such things in younger girls. Despite it worried her, she decided to keep it to herself. At least for now. "The name's Patricia... Patricia A. Winters. I might be in 11th but I'm very much new to AHS as well." |

"Well, it isnice to meet you all," Sou said as he stood up and did a small bow to them. He wasn't to surprised at the talking bird. "Don't worry Patricia, you'll get used to stuff like this here. After all there is a wolf girl who ha just found her voice after two years of not speaking." He said that because he caught the surprise. "Well, Patricia, Hanabi, and Serafeim I am twelve years old and in the nineth grade. I also have two oder brothers. Neither of them is as calm and quiet as myself." He joked as he ran his hand through his hair, briefly showing both eyes. "So any of you have brothers or sisters?" |

Her sempai's voice pulled Hanabi out of her thoughts, and she turned towards her, still smiling. The whole time she had been thinking, her smile never faded from her face. It had become a habit of hers, continuing to smile even when she thought something was wrong. Patricia A. Winters...a foreigner? She had never met one before,, making her quite happy to have one as her sempai. "It's nice to meet you, Winters-sempai," she said as the older girl finished introducing herself. Soutaro began to talk again, and Hanabi turned her attention back to him. A wolf girl? That sounded interesting. It looked like she was going to have a very interesting school year at Anime High School. Maybe she would even find a new summon along the way. It wasn't that she was looking to replace either Serafeim or Parisa, but the Shikikawa summons were diverse, each one different from the other in personality and abilities. Finding new ones and discovering their powers was part of the thrill for the younger clan members. Twelve years old? That was impressive. He really was the same age as her brother. What was a twelve year old doing in high school though? Well, the school already seemed to be different. She guessed that would probably explain it. Her smile never faded even when he asked the question about siblings. "Hai," she replied, "I have one older brother, deceased, and one younger brother about your age, Sou-kun, still alive and healthy thankfully." Talking about Kohaku as deceased was difficult, even though he had been dead for eight years already. It was Serafeim that had talked her out of the depression that followed her brother's death, telling her that her Aniki wouldn't want her to waste her life away grieving over him. She had realized then that it must have been hard for the summon too. Serafeim had only been bound to her brother for five years. He still often spoke about how much talent Kohaku had. And that was true. By the time he died, he had bound himself to four summons, and he was only eleven. At fifteen, she only had two. |

Patricia gently smiled at Hanabi at first, but almost slapped her own forehead when she heard the young summoner repeat her last name with her soft voice. The older blonde had absentmindedly introduced herself in the traditional British style, using both names and her last name. Patricia was not very fond of her blood family or anything that had to do with them, which included their family name, Winters. It didn’t help Patricia that Hanabi had, like, rubbed it all over her face. That was not true, of course. “Not Winters… Just Patricia… Please…”, she interrupted Hanabi and then trailed off as Sou began speaking about his family. He had two older brothers, he pointed out. Then, Hanabi mentioned her departed brother and a younger sibling. Great, they were bragging about their family now. By chance, Sou and Hanabi had pushed the family button again before even knowing they had done it once already. Well, this time Patricia would not let it go so easily. The blond papermaster lowered her eyes with a harsh look on her face. “Well… I don’t have any brothers or sisters…”. Her voice indicated she was clearly pissed off, but also gave some hints of deep sadness. “As a matter of fact… I don’t have blood related family at all.” This was a lie of course. You see, Patricia was a single child, and that was a lot to say already. She had been nothing but merchandize in a deal between her parents and the British Government before even being born. With that background, it’s no surprise somehow she was hurt by the fact they had actual families. A stupid reason to get mad at, but a reason nonetheless. “And if you two have finished bragging about your happy family, would you please change the subject?”, she finally added while passing a hand thru her blond locks, pulling one stray behind her ear. |

"I have one older brother, deceased, and one younger brother about your age, Sou-kun, still alive and healthy thankfully." "Well, maybe me and your brother can meet someday," he said. “Well… I don’t have any brothers or sisters…” “As a matter of fact… I don’t have blood related family at all.” “And if you two have finished bragging about your happy family, would you please change the subject?” Sou could tell that family must be a touchy subject with her. "Sorry..." He gave Patricia the most meaningful apologizing look. "So, what made you gys want to come to this school?" "I came because I was hoping to gain a bit of control over my own power." |

Family seemed to be a touchy subject to Winters...no, Patricia-sempai. Had they hit a nerve without even realizing it? Hanabi frowned in concern, turning towards the older girl. She didn't want to offend anyone, especially not on her first day here. She could understand how family could be a burden, after all. It was a good thing she wasn't the rebellious type, or she would be having issues with her own family too. "Gomenasai, Patricia-sempai, I didn't know that the topic was sensitive for you. I'll try not to do it again." She bowed again, smiling apologetically at Patricia. She hoped that the older girl wouldn't get angry at them. Soutaro began speaking again and Hanabi turned towards him. She frowned for a moment when he asked why they were here. Why was she here, exactly? Her mother had suggested it, and she had been eager to come...but she had never really thought about why. "...Well, my mother suggested it and I wanted to come here because I wanted to try and be out on my own for once," she said, "My family's kinda strict. Nice, but well...we have a lot of rules and traditions. I just wanted to see if I could make it without the rest of the cla--er, family." |

After hearing the sincere apology from both younger students, Patricia sighed in relieve. They had understood her point and would not push any deeper… hopefully. The new subject was not easy, either. Both of them had good points for being here, unlike her. Patty’s natural reaction would have been a similar display like the one a few seconds ago, but this time her master’s wise words echoed in that thick skull of hers, and cooled her temper before it even showed. She had to try hard in everything, which included personal relations. Once she had taken a few seconds to choose her words carefully, Patty managed to explain herself while walking towards the steps. “I’m here because I was ordered to… The Joker, my baboon for a boss, had heard about this school and since my tutor back at the British Library simply disappeared… He came up with the brilliant idea of keeping me here till I gain enough experience to handle myself as a field agent…” She paused for a second, expecting them to stare at her. It was not something you would hear everyday, not even here at AHS. Not wanting her new acquaintances to be like afraid of her or something, she quickly pulled on her teasing smile. “I’m an agent, yes, but I work for the Secret Operations Branch of the British Library… we handle rare books and their recovery. You wouldn’t guess how many books out there literally tell you how to conquer the world…” She then trailed off, feeling she might have said too much, as she took a seat on the earlier concrete steps. The only problem was her charming personality, she could tell. Both kids were easy going, and seemed like good persons. Maybe she should try to lead the conversation for it not to affect her? Yeah, that would help a lot. "So..." She began. "As you may have noticed, I'm not good with people... But I sure know a lot about powers, so I was curious about the full extension of all of yours..." She nodded to them both, but turned to the grey-haired boy. "Sou, you can phase right?... but what about that sword?" |

"...Well, my mother suggested it and I wanted to come here because I wanted to try and be out on my own for once," she said, "My family's kinda strict. Nice, but well...we have a lot of rules and traditions. I just wanted to see if I could make it without the rest of the cla--er, family." "Well, sometimes it is hard to be on your own and can be lonely to," Sou said. "And rules are good, Of course Kage said they are only good to break he is such a brat and an annoyance." Sou place one hand o his hip and the other hand on top of his head. He gazed up at the building he had just come out of. “I’m here because I was ordered to… The Joker, my baboon for a boss, had heard about this school and since my tutor back at the British Library simply disappeared… He came up with the brilliant idea of keeping me here till I gain enough experience to handle myself as a field agent…” Hearing the word Agent seemed to got Sou's attention and bringing his hands down, he turn his attention to Patricia and had a look that was masking his surprise. “I’m an agent, yes, but I work for the Secret Operations Branch of the British Library… we handle rare books and their recovery. You wouldn’t guess how many books out there literally tell you how to conquer the world…” "Oh I would believe it," the boy said. "There are a lot of bad people in the world and it is sad to think of it but no one knows if any of the people that go here or to ASA will graduate from here and become the next God of destruction or the goddess Apollymi th destroyer and that includes us." Sou looked at his two new friends. "So..." She began. "As you may have noticed, I'm not good with people... But I sure know a lot about powers, so I was curious about the full extension of all of yours..." She nodded to them both, but turned to the grey-haired boy. "Sou, you can phase right?... but what about that sword?" "Well, my power is kind of tricky to say the least." Sou started to scratch his head. "My phasing power means that he can go through walls, floors, and even furniture. This can happen at anytime. Sometimes the objects I have on me will go through with me and sometimes they won't and it makes me look foolish if I tried to phase through the floor and get stuck because of my back pack or my souba." "The only time my phasing power will not work for certain is when there is stuff I cannot phase through like the ground, the living, the dead, animals, moving objects, and electronic devices." Sou paused for just a moment then continued. "But, as you saw even object I have on me tend to fall through me. It is even more embarrassing when the clothes I would have on slips off my body. So what about you two?" |
