Just under three weeks from the biggest fight of his life.. and Neo was pacing back and forth through the entertainment room. Deep in thought over the upcoming fight with Ryu, and he found himself second guessing something. Not the fight itself, but what to do in the later stages. Training for it has shown its results, but a game plan is what's needed now. At least he wasn't alone, Murai was there plotting with him.

Murai: "...Ok, how about this. If you dive in quick enough, and split into two.."
Neo: "He'd figure out which one is me, and knock me out before I finish, no matter how much I lower my energy signature. Come on Murai, think. This is the same guy who leveled an entire city years ago that I'm going up against soon."
Murai: "Neo, I think you're understating your chances here. Out of anyone we know, you have the best chance against him right now. Besides, you're no slouch yourself. Your conditioning is perfect, your skills are sharper then before, you even showed me some stuff you haven't done before."
Neo: "Oh? Give me one reason why I should believe that."
Murai: "I'll give you four. Look to your right."

His right? Well, he did, and what he saw was four rather beaten up friends of his, thanks to how much effort he was giving during his training for the fight. Cristy was holding her left side, wincing all the while, Kiel had a raw steak on his right eye to bring down the swelling, and Ritsuka had a cold compress on her face and a bandage on her left wrist. As for Sage.. well, Li was having to go into healing mode for him. At least the damage wasn't serious.

Murai: "And you held back against them..."
Neo: "Uh... well.. sorry guys?"
All 4 : "If it wasn't for the fact you're going up against Ryu...."

At that moment, two more people who were so lucky to miss all this, walked in the door. Normally they weren't out this late, but Haru and Kobe wanted to stop by to show off something they picked up, but even they were taken aback at what they saw before them.

Haru: "Helloooo... what the hell happened to you all?"
Cristy: "You can thank Valreign the whirling dervish over there. He's still fine tuning himself for the fight."
Kobe: "Still? I thought you'd be resting by now, don't want to overdo it getting ready for something this big."
Neo: "Yeah well, I still think somethings missing. I just don't feel ready for what could happen if it goes and lasts for a while."
Kiel: "Besides, weren't you two supposed to be here an hour ago to help out?"
Haru: "Yeah well, a DVD I ordered months ago came in, and I wanted to pick it up."
Ritsuka: "Translation: you wanted to watch it on the big screens we have here."
Haru: "And damn, there's nothing getting past you. Take a seat Valreign, you could use the rest."

Before he could object, Kobe and Haru grabbed Neo and sat him down in one of the empty seats, before putting the disc in the machine. Sage was mostly healed up enough to watch this, the others just sat up just to see what they were up to this time. After all the credits and the legal crap, it finally started up... to see a guy get decked by a right cross and knocked to the canvas just before the title of the DVD came up.

Murai: "Japanese Boxing Legends, Volume 1? Are you kidding me?"
Haru: "Hell no, I was wanting to see this for the longest time. Brutality and technique at the same time. It's almost beautiful in a way."
Kobe & Cristy: Oh brother...

Technique...? That got Neo's interest there. Come to think of it, some boxers out there utilize more technique in their skills then power, just like him. Maybe... there might be something he could see in this conglomeration of massacres that he could use.. that he could integrate into his own skill set. That opportunity came... 38 minutes in.

Neo: "Wait... what was that?"
Li: "What was what? I just saw someone get his chest caved in."
Neo: "No.. that's only what it looked like. Hey, go back a bit..."

Haru was a bit disappointed, only cause he wanted to know what the next match was going to be. But, this wasn't his place, he didn't have a choice. Heading back till where Neo said to stop, he restarted the ending part of that match. 7th round of the Japanese Featherweight title fight... where was it... And that's when it happened. A strange looking punch, tucked in first and coming from the right side, then thrust forward towards the chest. And then... then..

Neo: "He's... he's not moving?"
Sage: "Say what gov?"
Neo: "Look at the challenger. That last punch somehow stopped him, and the angle of where it came from and where it was thrown. It was like he aimed... right for..."

At that instant, Neo got up and belted towards the stairs. Most of the group was shocked, not knowing what he had seen, but Haru ran after him, until he was standing at the foot of the stairs.

Haru: "Where the hell do you think you're going?"
Neo: "Upstairs. And tell Sage to meet me up in the training room. I just got my inspiration..."

When Sage made his way to the training room upstairs, Neo was already there warming up. Li had done the job in getting him healed up as best she could, but there was still the feeling of exhaustion coursing through his body. Even so, the thought of what Neo had seen in that DVD of Haru's got him thinking. What was it that he saw?

Sage: "'ey there gov, What you got going through that wacked out mind of yours?"
Neo: "Well, I was thinking. I need someway to set Ryu up for the end minutes of the fight. Someway that can't be instantly recognized."
Sage: "And you think you found that way?"
Neo: "Maybe I have. Now I need to see if it's feasible."

Sage was actually expecting for Neo to throw a punch at him, but instead, he had reached into his pocket and pushed a button, causing a hologram of a gym to appear around them. In addition to that, a simulation of himself stood across from Neo.

Neo: "You've got better eyes then the others, so I'm sure you can get a glimpse of what I mean. To be honest, if I can't hit my own shadow with this, there's no chance that it'll work against Ryu."

Before Sage could object, both Neo's charged at each other, throwing a barrage of blows in each direction. Even though they were going in high speed, Sage could see the punches flying with incredible precision, but both of them dodged them expertly. If anything... the power behind each blow is higher then he had remembered.

In all this time.. did the power behind each of those punches actually increase? Damn that bloody Neo... couldn't believe it even if I tried. Then, the actual Neo dodged what would have been a solid left, then his right pulled back, his knuckles pointed downwards. Wha-What the bloody.. In a split second, Neo threw that right back at his copy, but the arm rotated as it moved.

Sage: "I've seen that before... now it's coming to me."

The rotating direction, the arcing angle of the punch... Sage has seen it once before. Not just from the tape, but in an actual boxing match he's seen on TV. While he was dwelling on it, the punch itself connected square in the other's chest, the force behind it sent him flying backwards. He should have been pleased, but Neo just turned off the hologram version of himself.

Sage: "That... that was a Corkscrew Punch!! When did you learn something like that??"
Neo: "A.. what?"
Sage: "Y-you threw that without knowing what it was? You bloody wanker, what do want me to do, have a bloomin' heart attack?"
Neo: "Wha-what did you say?"

In all honesty, Neo was just aiming to knock Ryu back to set himself up, but that inadvertent clue from Sage gave him a better idea. Yeah... that might.. No, that WILL work.

Sage: "Uh-oh, what are you thinking now?"
Neo: "Sage... I have two weeks til my fight. I'm going to finish all my tuning up, but in that same time, I need your help with something."
Sage: "Huh? Help with what?"
Neo: "Help.. with stopping him right where he stands..."

One week left... Neo's in the final stages of getting himself ready for the fight. As he started his day doing some squats, it was back to his normal daily training routine...

(Music: Eye of the Tiger; Rocky)

Neo: "Hold it, no no no, turn that off."
Narrator: "Uh.. say what?"
Neo: "You heard me, I'm not going to get ready for this, using that trite generic tune. Here, give me that."
Narrator: "Wait, that's my iPod. What the heck are you thinking?"
Neo: "No, no, oh definitely not this one... Here, use this track."
Narrator: "Are you sure?"
Neo: "Yes I am. What, you have a problem with it?"
Narrator: "No, not really. Just get back in there and get ready."
Neo: "Oh what's wrong now?"
Narrator "Well, the fact that you're standing there, just in your boxers."
Neo: *looks down* "Well, so I am. Alright, I'll get ready, you get that song queued up. Oh, enjoy the montage folks."
Narrator: "Ok, let's try this again... *sighs* "friggin PC's..."

(Music: Vagabond; Hajime no Ippo 2nd OST)

His workout suit on after the warmup exercises, Neo headed down the stairs, and jogged towards the kitchen. Murai, Ritsuka and Li were already there, eating breakfast.

Murai & Li: "Man... I miss Neo's cooking."
Ritsuka: "Well, you'll have to deal with it till this is over. Besides, I'm getting better at this. And before I forget..."

While Neo was preparing himself for the fight, Ritsuka stepped up and started cooking for the house. At first, things weren't so good, especially with the brief food poisoning incident back in late April. Nowadays however, all of her meals have been getting increasingly better, and more importantly, edible. Yes, the others give her a hard time, but it's all in good fun. And back to her normal part in all this, she reached into the fridge, grabbed a bottle of Gatorade, and tossed it over her shoulder. Coming down just behind the others, it landed right in Neo's hands, just like always.

Ritsuka: "See you after your roadwork Neo."
Neo: "Thanks, see you later."

Heading out the back door, Neo started down the street, towards the town square. People had heard about what was coming up thanks to Haru's radio show, and much to his surprise, a lot of them were rooting for him to win. Despite the fact that he's just a human, the fact that he's lived here among them all since the city was founded gave him a bit of homefield advantage, as it was.

"Alright, time to get started." Once he was at the edge of the square, he kicked it into high speed, leaving a trail of dust behind him.

(Music time: 1:24)

At a local shooting range, located behind a particular gunsmith shop, the male patrons were looking with shock and awe. Mainly because of the fact that the female store owner and her sole employee were using both a gun and a bow on the range. Not to mention the fact that the employee's pet wolf was taking potshots as well.

Patron 1: "I can't believe what I'm seeing..."
Patron 2: What, the fact that those two girls are damn good shots?"
Patron 1: "That, and the fact that the target they're all shooting at... is dodging them all.."

Yep, what that guy was saying was all true. Not only was Miyu, Cristy and Fenrir each taking shots at the same target, but Neo was ducking, weaving and darting away from all of the shots. If they needed proof of this, the 3 inch lead lined back wall behind them were riddled with bullets and arrows, and scarred with cannon fire.

Patron 1: "I'm glad I'm not going to be fighting that guy."
Patron 2: "Damn... the lengths that Neo Valreign will go, and this is just for training...
Cristy: "Sorry boys... you haven't even seen the half of it."
Miyubi: "Yeah, what we're doing is nothing."

(Music time: 2:38)

Sage: "Again..."

Now back to his normal health, Sage was helping Neo by being a moving target as he punched at him. To make things fair on him, Neo was also wearing weights along his forearms, decreasing the speed behind each punch. Still, he was able to throw them pretty fast, but Sage was able to move around them pretty well."

Sage: "Ok gov, Corkscrew..."

In almost a split second, Neo pulled his arm back to the proper point, letting it fly towards his sparring partner, but again, he moved to the side. He was getting rather frustrated at this point, that he pulled his left arm back as the right was being dodged. Sage realized it alright, same point, same trajectory, but he was able to dodge that one as well. So, he can use it with both arms huh?

Sage: "Clear your head mate. You lose it mental like, you could lose the fight. Now, again."

(Music time: 2:56)

Neo: "One more..."

In the main room of the house, Neo was on his back, bracing himself as a medicine ball was dropped, landing on the upper torso. Wincing a bit, he did a couple of stomach crunches as it was being pulled back up. Kiel was behind this part however, as he constructed a crane and pulley system, and the medicine ball, out of paper. One hand was constantly on the main support system to make sure that it wouldn't fall apart, but even he was concerned about how he was doing.

Kiel: "Hey Valreign, you sure you want to keep this up? You've already taken about twenty of those today."
Neo: "Yeah, I can still hold up for a while. So, one more..."

Who was he to judge? Kiel wasn't the one torturing himself for this. With a shrug of his shoulders, he just let the ball drop again, landing in the same spot on Neo's stomach area, watching as the wind got knocked out of him once again.

(Music time: 3:14)

Murai: "Ok, 8 laps around the city, and try to keep it within 7 minutes."

As soon as the whistle blew, Neo took off, the wind almost taking Murai off his feet. He probably had the easiest job out of everyone helping him out. All he had to do was keep the time as Neo ran around Domino City. And like in his sparring practices, he had weights on his legs to slow him down a bit. One of his own designs actually, they were in place by lock and key, and there was a joint and piston system around the knees to allow for accurate bending, and to prevent any cramps from occurring.

Neo was faring rather well, despite the added restrictions on his legs. Moving in and out of traffic was still a chore, mainly cause of the proximity of all the vehicles, but he's gotten used to that part by now. Even all of the drivers knew that if they saw a blur, their eyes were playing tricks on them.

(Music time: 3:39)

Back to his sparring practice. Sage was seeing definite improvement behind each of the punches Neo was using. there was even the occasional feint mixed in, but just as Neo was going for the corkscrew as he was confused, he barely dodged out of the way.

Sage: *panting* Hold up mate, I need a moment. I'm almost at my limit."
Neo: "I know, I know, but I've almost got it. There was something that I was missing when we started this before, but now I think I've almost grasped it."
Sage: *still panting* "Heh, determined to see this through, ain't ya? *sighs* God save the queen if you do end up getting this down. Alright then, back to it."

(Music time: 4:04)

On the roof of his house, people would usually hear the sound of swords clashing together again and again and again. Haru had the difficult job of helping Neo's sword training. Kobe was there to make sure nothing happened, but other then that, there wasn't much he could even do. He only wished he could've been there the last time they went head to head against each other. Murai said that it was something unimaginable. Little did he know it, those two were giving him something shocking.

The entire time, Haru was on the defensive. The last time they faced off against each other, Neo held back. This time, he was seeing just how good he was. Every swing was deft, accurate, and could possibly leave a wound in someone, if it wasn't for the fact that he using Kagaikaze during all this.

Haru: Damn... there's no restraint this time. I can tell... he's seeing Ryu in his eyes.

(Music time: 4:28)

Li and Ame: "41... 42... 43..."

Murai was just walking down the hall heading to the entertainment room, when he heard the counting coming from the arcade nearby. Peeking in, he saw Neo doing some one handed pushups, but that wasn't what took him by surprise. Li and Ame were sitting on his back the entire time, counting along with every pushup he had done.

Ame: "48... 49... 50!"
Li: "Ok Neo, change hands."

As soon as he raised on the 50th one, he quickly changed from his right hand to the left, and started again from square one. It was strange to see, especially from his direction, but he caught a glimpse of what Li was jotting down. Apparently, he had already done 200 pushups on his right arm, and 150 on the left. He had been alternating this entire time.

Murai: Man... am I thankful he's not getting ready to fight me.

(Music time: 4:41)

It was usually quiet in Ritsuka's kitsune realm, but today was different. She was helping him with his unarmed powers, but at the same time, he was helping her with hers. The ground around them were showing the scars of their training, but she knew that he wasn't finished. Drawing from her shadow, she fired a Frost Bolt towards him, but he countered with a Lightning Blast of his own. Both of them connected simultaneously, sending a ripple throughout the realm. All the creatures there were scared to death... well, to life in their case.

Ritsuka: "Looks like you're still as sharp as ever Neo."
Neo: "You know me. Gotta keep you off your toes somehow."
Ritsuka: "Oh? We'll see about that..."

Drawing from her shadow again, Neo would see something that would actually put the fear of God in him. Almost parallel to his Fist of the Tornado, Ritsuka stuck her right arm out, and a small cyclone began to rotate around it. All the while, she had a similar smirk on her face like the one he usually has.

Neo: "Holy... so you're biting off of me now, huh?"
Ritsuka: "Hey, I gotta keep you off your toes somehow, remember?"
Neo: "Heh, now where have I heard that before..."

True to form, Neo wanted to meet Rits' challenge head on. Sticking out his right arm, he started forming a tornado around his as well. There wasn't anything else that needed to be said at that point, as both of them fired their respective techniques at each other. They both collided, echoing loudly around them. Until finally, the dust subsided to reveal Neo still standing, and Ritsuka on her back.

Ritsuka: "...After all this time, you really became strong, Neo."
Neo: "No... even after all this, I'm still just me."

(Music time: 5:12)

The sound... Sage realized what that sound was. The rotation of his right arm was shredding the air, and the aim was perfect. There was no way he could even dodge it like all the others. And when he tried to block it, the aim just moved out of nowhere. And just as quickly, it connected, causing him to stumble back. He was still on his feet, but what happened next scared him.... he was frozen in place, his body just wouldn't move... hell, it wouldn't even listen to him. And all of a sudden, a left came his way, but he couldn't even blink. But it stopped just within a hair of connecting with his face. A couple seconds later, he was able to see the look of surprise on Neo's face.

Neo: "I.. it worked."

All of a sudden, Neo fell forward, but Sage was there to catch him before he hit the ground. He could tell... Neo was completely exhausted. All the exhaustion from the training he put himself through all this time finally came over him in an instant. It didn't really matter much though, he was able to connect with a corkscrew at least once, and he was weighted down to boot. And Sage knew how much time he had left till the big day.

Sage: "Alright gov, you're in no shape to train at all for a while. You're staying here to rest up, no excuses, right?"
Neo: "Yeah yeah, I promise. Besides, I need to be in my best condition."
Sage: "Huh? What're you talking about?
Neo: "Heh, you didn't hear yet? I'm gonna have a couple guests here for this. Oh yeah... Now I'm really ready..."

The evening before the fight, and a cab pulled up in front of Neo and Murai's manor. After paying the fare, which was a bit steep considering they were coming from the bullet train station in Tokyo, the doors opened to reveal a couple of first time visitors. First out was hulking 6'8 muscular form of Neo's uncle Hayato, who held the door open for the shorter and elderly Sakai, former master of the same martial arts school that one of the best and brightest pupils of all time studied under for years. Granted, he's recently stepped down, and all of the responsibilities have gone to Hayato, but he needed to see where he would be sending the more advanced students when the time was right.

Hayato: "This house.... it's a little bit more then what I expected sensei."
Sakai: "It may be so... but you must remember the generational differences between the both of you Hayato. For a while, I thought that the inn was a bit excessive, if you can recall..."

There wasn't much that he could say, as he simply bowed to his former master and handed him his cane, so he could reach into the trunk of the cab and take the luggage. Just then, a black stretch limousine turned the far corner, approached slowly and parked behind the cab, the engine coming to a stop. There was confusion on their face, they didn't think anyone else was coming here today, but that confusion turned into shock as the driver exited the car and opened the back door on the passenger side. The first one out, wearing a very elegant silk kimono, was none other then Hayato's sister herself.

Hayato: "S-Shizuka?"
Shizuka: "H-Hayato??"

Coming out of the limo behind her was her husband of 23 years, Maxwell Valreign, dressed down from his usual 3 piece suit for a change, and instead in a blue polo shirt and tan khakis. Following him was a sight that neither Hayato or Sakai had seen before, but have only heard of. Behind his parents stepped out Rion, wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans. He didn't know who either of these people were, but his mother had an interest in the taller, and quite honestly much more frightening person. That's when he turned his head to face him, and that look of shock returned to his face.

Hayato: "Neo? What are you doing there??"
Rion: "Neo? Where??"
Sakai: "That's enough Hayato. No more jumping to conclusions. Shizuka, a pleasure to see you again. I believe that this is the other son of yours?"
Shizuka: "Y-yes sensai. But how did you know?"
Sakai: "Well, one of your sons does keep in touch with his old master every once in a while."

The doors to the manor opened, and Haru came strutting out, true to his form. To be honest, he was expecting Neo's parents, hell, he passed the message all the way to where they were staying. But seeing both his uncle and master here as well? Who the heck invited them... no wait, he had a pretty good idea who did.

Haru: "Well well well... Mr. Sonada and Mr. Sakai... I didn't expect to see you two here today."
Hayato: "I remember you... you made me give you 1500 yen on your trip to Kyoto years ago... and you ate my sandwich."
Haru: "Damn, what's with you people and the photographic memories lately. Well, since you're all here, there's something I think you all should see."
Maxwell: "Oh, and what would that be?"
Haru: "Well... If I had to guess, it would be something you'd probably never believe, even after you've seen it."

All five of them literally looked at each other at that point, not knowing what he had meant. But after Hayato removed the last bit of baggage from the cab and sent it off, and the limo driver placed the last bag that his passengers had on the portable cart that he kept in the deep trunk, the group entered to see just what Haru had meant, and he was right when he said that they wouldn't believe it.

It was Neo's last sparring match before the fight the next day, and he was completely outpunching Sage, who beforehand just had his hands full with just dodging him. Sakei, Hayato, and even Shizuka could see what he meant. Neo's movements were slight, compact and quick... but behind each one was enough momentum to indent a metal wall without breaking his knuckles. And his body frame was the most spectacular part. It was like his entire body was one big shock absorber, capable of withstanding a good deal of force without faltering. Hayato looked around while Neo was sparring at the house he was living in now, but his eyes ultimately looked over to the other group of people there.

Haru was there of course, along with Cristina, and he was guessing Kobe and Miyubi. Of course, he remembered Ritsuka and Murai, And the two little girls had to be Li and Ame. But to his own surprise, and to Sakai's, the last person there was none other then Kiel Sagara himself. Oh, those two were familiar with that young man, and when he noticed that he was being watched, he turned his head away, too ashamed to even return their gaze.

Sage: "Alright gov, finish it up."

Still bobbing and weaving, Neo just as quickly dived down, adjusting his center of gravity down to his knees as he stepped in. And just as quickly, he launched a barrage of left and right straights, slowly mixing in a couple of hooking rights. Most of the others couldn't see it, with the exception of the more skilled martial artists, but Neo had also thrown a corkscrew punch in the midst of all that, which finally caused Sage to slide backwards.

Hayato: "Sensei.. did you just see.."
Sakai: "Oh yes, every bit of it."

Rion or Maxwell didn't understand what they were saying, but it was obvious that Neo had done something to surprise them both. That, and the fact that Sage's hands were stinging as well. That was enough, it was completely obvious now that Neo was 100% ready. And after using the towel that Li threw to him to dry off the beads of sweat, he turned around to see his family standing there... both of them.

Neo: "Holy... Uncle, Master.. what are you doing here?"
Sakai: "You may have to thank your friends over there for this. Normally I would only wish you luck, but when Ritsuka mentioned that this was your biggest challenge ever..."

Oh, Neo definitely shot a look towards them all at that moment. Haru, Kiel and Kobe were completely in the dark, but the others were just whistling to themselves, or checking their cell phones then. Yes, Neo invited his blood-related family there for this, but never in a million years would he have expected the others. And speaking of his blood family, Rion was there just looking in awe. Neo told him stories of his exploits, but this was the first time he's ever seen him training. He was completely blown away, mainly because he's only seen videos or pictures of people improving themselves like that.

Rion: "That... was.. just... cool!!"
Neo: "Huh? That? Eh, that was nothing, can't really go out and practice like I was earlier now. Especially with what's happening tomorrow. But I'm surprised sensei. What about the school and the students? Not to mention Akito and Kazuki?"
Hayato: "Well, Kazuki pulled a muscle recently, so he has to keep off of his right leg. And Akito has stepped up and taken care of the students. And speaking of the students, they all chipped in and got you something. Hayato?"

Nodding, Hayato reached into one of the boxes and pulled out two boxes. He handed the larger one to his nephew, who opened it to reveal a new pair of kempo competition pants. Each leg had the insignia of the school, and links to connect a belt. That second part would be easily resolved, as Hayato gave another box to him, with something that has been owed to him for a long time...

Sakai: "It's your black belt. Years overdue I believe."
Maxwell: "And we brought something as well. I know it's before your birthday, but we'll call it gift number one."

Rion had walked over to one of the bags while Neo had gone through the other boxes, and pulled out a folded white hooded t-shirt. On the shoulders was the Valreign family symbol: the White Tiger, striking from from a preying position. Before he knew it, there was one more box before him. This one was from all of his friends, and it was opened up to reveal a pair of new low-top running shoes.

Neo: "These are a bit heavier then a lot of others out there you guys.
Murai: "Well, that's my doing. Titanium-Tungsten Soles, so you aren't gonna wear those out anytime soon, and the inside are so comfortable, you'd think you were barefoot."
Neo: "...Y-you guys... everyone..."
Haru: "Yeah yeah, before you get to the waterworks, you better promise us this. We saw you work yourself to death over the last three months, and all of that better not add up to nothing. Everyone else'll probably say "Do your best" or some crap like that, but not me. You only got one thing you're gonna hear from me, Kobe, maybe even Kiel, so here it is... Kick Ryu Musashi's ass, you got that?"
Neo: "Heh, even if I said that, you'd just keep pressuring me till I said something. So I'll just say this. Tomorrow, I'm giving it everything I got, I won't deny that."
