Ritsuka: "Are you sure you told her the right time?" Neo: "Yeah Rits, I'm sure. 9 AM, New Year's Eve, and make sure she's bundled up." Still looking at his watch, Neo was standing near the elevator that led down into the garage level of the house. Both he and Ritsuka were already wearing their coats. Ritsuka in her usual full length wool coat, and Neo in his brand new 3/4 length dark green wool parka. Both were currently waiting for Diana to arrive, in order to make the trip back to Kyoto. He didn't let her know, but there was a surprise waiting for them. Besides that, he still needed to check in with his uncle before heading into town for the festivities. Why they were all dressed warmly would be explained in a little bit. And, they would have a few hours to get some rest in before they would all be leaving too. Neo: "Ok, I'll give her about 5 more minutes, then I'll call her." Edited by Neo, Jan 6 2009, 09:17 PM.

D: “We’re late!” Diana whined in the passenger seat next to Alex. A: “Only a minute or two, calm down.” D: “I should have just driven myself.” A: “No, not in the snow, not by yourself. You’d wreck a car trying to get out of the garage.” D: “Oh whatever, unlike a certain someone –I- have a clean slate.” Alex couldn’t argue that point and decided to keep her eyes on the road for the duration of the trip. Meanwhile Diana was fretting over being treated like a child. She wasn’t too keen on the notion of being ‘mothered’ and Alex had been more that accommodating in hat aspect. Part of her liked it but mostly it was becoming annoying. Fuming silently she pulled her leather gloves out of her pocket and slid them on. Neo had told her to dress warmly and the 3/4 length white wool trench she was wearing worked nicely. Fortunately it had a silk lining that kept her from scratching to death. Clothing could really be cumbersome at times. Pulling up to Neo’s house Diana made quick work of her seatbelt and only after Alex made her check twice for her cell phone was she allowed to leave the car. On her own in te yard she felt the beginnings of butterflies in her stomach and had to wonder why she was so nervous all of a sudden. It was just Neo, just a trip to Kyoto… to meet his family. Oh geez. Pausing at the door she took a deep breath of cold air and then entered the house without a hint of worry on her pretty face. “Sorry I’m late. Alex wouldn’t let me drive in the snow.” She grumbled the last part as she made her way over to where Neo and Ritsuka were waiting. “How are the two of you this morning?” |

Neo could understand how nervous Diana was at that moment. In fact, he was just as stressed out as she was, but he was handling it a lot better then the last time something like this came up. Back then, he was rejected, but this time, he had the more assuring situation of him being in familiar territory, and being with his family and Ritsuka. Checking his phone once again for the time, he was interrupted by the sound of the front door opened up, and behind them stood none other then Diana. He wouldn't dare say anything like "about time" or such, but it was, of course, good to see her. Though, it was scary that her coat, though different brands, were somewhat similar. The only differences were that they were designed for their respective genders, and the different colors. But still, it looked good on her. Neo: "Yeah, I can see that. It is kinda rough out there today." Ritsuka: "Honestly, I'm glad we aren't driving over there." Neo: "Tell me about it. But yeah, we're doing ok, but I'm slightly tired. How about you?" As soon as he let that trail out, Neo let out a rather elongated yawn. It's strange, he did get sleep, and he's not really tired. Must be his nerves, that has to be it. |

Inwardly she groaned. Okay so it was a little wintry outside but nothing she couldn’t handle. Besides, how was she supposed to learn if no one gave her a chance? It brushed it off as it didn’t matter now. There were far bigger things to think and worry about. Yeah, Diana was still fretting over the whole ‘going to Kyoto and meeting parents and so forth’, thing. How had she gotten in to this situation? Easy, that charming man standing across from her had smiled and made one simple suggestion and like a naïve fool she’d agreed. So here she stood, fidgeting ever so slightly and wondering if the butterflies in her stomach had drunk a Red Bull or something. Something about hearing Neo say he was ‘tired’ made her think twice about her own disposition and her nose never lied. He was nervous too. “Well enough I guess. Still trying to come off the holiday hi-wait what?” She’d been so busy trying to hide behind her calm and cool collective mask that she’d almost missed Ritsuka’s little comment. Not driving then… “How are we getting there, exactly?” Perplexed as her expression was she couldn’t hide that glint of curiousness in her eyes. Leave it to Diana to want to ask a million other questions. Thankfully this new development wiped away all of anxiety she had only moments later. |

"Well..." Here it comes. Here's why Neo was nervous, but this entire thing was his idea, he had to be there to go through it all. He remembered the nightmares she's told him about, that's why this was the second option. The first would take too long, mainly because there were three of them going along, and he didn't think that neither of them could handle traveling at the speeds that he was able to achieve. "...Here's the thing Diana. The only way we could reach Kyoto in time.. is by a shortcut through Ritsuka's room." She didn't say anything at that moment. Ritsuka was well aware as to the nature of that very shortcut. After all, she made it. And by his hesitations, she could only assume that he held back something from her. Ritsuka: "Neo, you haven't told her about me yet, have you?" Neo: "...Not yet. I wanted to find the right time, but..." Ritsuka: *sighs* "Diana, the shortcut goes through a kitsune realm. One of my own creation." Ritsuka would let that sink in for a moment, as she headed to the elevator. After it opened, and she entered, she looked over at the two of them. "You two coming?" |

Two well-groomed brows furrowed slightly as Diana watched Neo go through the motions of being. Blinking rapidly she felt a twinge of impatience on the verge of coming out before he finally let it all out. Now the thought of Ritsuka’s room made her eyes cross in confusion. How was that even supposed to work? Before the ideas could start flowing the two of them started explaining and within a matter of seconds it all made sense. The proverbial light bulb in Diana’s mind lit up like the sun and puzzle pieces started to come together. “Ah so that’s what the scent was…” Her feline eyes darted to Ritsuka. That comment could have come out a little rude but Diana was so innocent it would be hard to mistake it as such. Diana’s nose had been telling her for some time now that Ritsuka wasn’t just any other meta-human. She had the distinct scent of fox but there was something else too, like magic. So kitsune then, that’s what it was called. Wow she really needed to pay more attention and read up on some folklore. Use your nose. her mother had said. What good was it to use the thing if she couldn’t label what she smelled? “So we go through it, no big deal. Alex has a place like that.” Of course Alex’s realm/world/space was no comparison for what Diana might encounter next. Alex’s was typically of the sunshine and sea-air variety of course there were those moments when they just lingered in that void. Diana really hated that place. However, in retrospect this would explain her nonchalant attitude towards the whole idea. So with a bright smile she lingered only a moment to soak in the idea before joining Ritsuka in the elevator with a ‘squee’ of anticipation. “Now I am excited! Not only do I get to see Kyoto but I also get to see a real live kitsune realm!” If only Diana could remember that she was already well-traveled and possibly well acquainted with both she might have been a little less excited. (Though not really.) |

Yep, Rits got straight to the point, just like she usually does. At least Neo could see that Diana wasn't disturbing his housemate over there. That, and she never started tapping into her shadow at all, like the last time she got angry. Needless to say, replacing that TV was rather expensive. But if anything, Ritsuka could tell that she honestly didn't understand what she was. Probably due to the memory loss, so she didn't take offense to her little comment there. She was getting the gist of it all, especially with that little squeal of excitement indicating it. Neo didn't say much though, that just meant that he didn't have to go back upstairs to get the "other" option. Stepping inside, the doors closed as they traveled down a floor to the garage. Diana probably hasn't been down here before, but this is where Neo Rit, Murai and their more frequent guests parked their cars. Better then risking parking tickets at least. Weird thing was, before she would ask why she brought them down here, Neo pointed her to a door located to the left of the elevator door. All she had done was turn the doorknob, and it had opened with a somewhat loud creak. Diana could see about three steps clearly inside, where the only remaining light was provided by a few candles that automatically ignited as the usual inhabitant entered. The things she finds whenever she goes out shopping sometimes. The room itself was very basic. There was her bed, a desk with a couple of books piled on it, a small dresser with a few things she's found over the years, and a half filled bookshelf containing books of an occult nature. But not the Necronomicon, both Neo and Murai vetoed that instantly, with all good reason. Anyway, Rits stops in front of the quite out of place grandfather clock in her room, and opens it to reveal a swirling black vortex inside, complete with faint wails coming from within. "So Di, you still ready?" Neo asked, now standing beside her. He didn't seem phased by it though, god knows how many times he's been in there ever since they've been aquainted. Momentary distraction kept Diana from minding the elevator ride. It wasn’t a matter of preference either, she actually had a deep rooted fear of closed in spaces; see-through or not. Maybe her tendency to be preoccupied mentally was going to prove a good thing? That in mind, the garage was typical in her eyes but for a brief moment she was reminded that a lot of things in Alex’s office needed attending to. Before she could think to ask why they were here, when they were clearly not going by car, Neo pointed her towards a door. The creaking sound made the hair on the back of Diana’s neck stand on end. The sound was horribly familiar but she knew that the ones back at the house were all well oiled. Deciding that there were more things to entertain herself with than a squeaky door she chalked it up to needing a good dose of WD40 and left it at that. The candles were a nice touch, and she had a sinking suspicion that there was nothing mechanic about them. This only fueled her curiosity as she glanced towards the bookcase. Oh what she would give to thumb through those tomes of knowledge. However, the greatest item of interest in the room had to be the grandfather clock. Even before it was opened she’d seen it and something in the darker recesses of her mind stirred. An eerie sort of familiarity came over her but before she could allow herself to slip back and indulge in the feeling Neo spoke. “Y-yeah.” That response came from being both thoroughly broken of her silent reverie and taken aback by what lay before them. The vortex, she decided, was an inky sort of black, menacing not only in its obscurity but also in the auditory aesthetics. It sounded as if something were dying on the other side. “So we go through this?” The uncertainty in her voice was apparent but not so heavy that she’d seem completely shaken of the idea. “Wow.” |

Neo could tell that there were hesitations in her voice when Diana said that. He was used to this yes, but from what she's told him about her nightmares, he wasn't sure that she might have been. After Ritsuka walked inside, Diana would feel his arm around her. "Yeah. Don't worry though, I got you." As soon as she was ready, he led her inside, as the door to the clock closed behind them. Inside though, the wailing only got louder as Diana got a good look at her surroundings. This place had a sky, but the moon was completely blocked out thanks to layers of dark clouds. The ground had grass, but the trees there looked lifeless, as the crows perched there cawing at the visitors. This wasn't the scary part of the place though, as there were gravestones littered around as well, with a mausoleum was in the center of the realm. "We won't be here long. The way out that we need is just over there." she said, pointing to what could be assumed was the northeast. Leading the way, they would see the occasional skeletal hand pop out from the ground, but the inquisitive Diana would notice that there were no names on the graves themselves. Either they were there for the future, or they were weathered away from time. The walk only took a few moments, before Neo remembered something to say. Neo: "Hey Rits, don't forget that the inn may have guests there." Ritsuka: "Oh yes, this is one of the few times Hayato does open it up, isn't it?" Shrugging it off, the trail that Ritsuka was traveling came to a stop, where she waved her hand in front of her, and another gate opened in front of her, this one with a light at the end. "Here's our way out." was all she mentioned, before stepping through. Edited by Neo, Jan 17 2009, 12:08 PM.

Neo’s arm circling around her was a welcome feeling and she leaned in to it automatically. Someone could have easily said it was a purely instinctive maneuver but the truth was, despite all the stronger male bull, she liked this feeling. It made her feel safe and she’d need that in the next few moments. Being wrong wasn’t something horribly new for Diana. It went along with that whole ‘learning’ thing and she had to admit that she had been wrong earlier. She wasn’t ready for this. Ritsuka’s realm was nowhere near Alex’s. There was no sunshine, no birds chirping, and no calming ocean; just a whole lot of dark and spooky. Idly she wondered if Tim Burton was her decorator. Dead trees stood like broken soldiers and aside from the crows she felt as if they were watching. Trees didn’t have eyes though, so that was silly. She should lay off the Fright Nights with Mercy ASAP. The wailing was the worst of it though. At first it was scary but then it became this almost constant drone that held the potential to drive her crazy. If not for that she might have been able to even grow accustomed to this. Scratch that. The skeletal hands jutting from the ground proved both a distraction from the sound but also as another means to frighten her. They drew her attention to the gravestones and upon sight Diana pressed closer to Neo. Foreboding much? They lacked etching and names which spurred a question she’d probably never ask because, luckily, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. No, seriously. Didn’t have to tell Diana twice that this was the exit. Thoroughly spooked to the point she might be jumpy for a while she was eager to get to the other side. A bit longer in this place and Neo may have found himself with a cat in his coat. “Oh thank god…” She wasn’t trying to be rude but the realm was a lot to stomach and as of now she’d had her fill. She'd even missed most of what Rits and Neo had said aside from a few words. "We're going to an Inn?" |

"Yep, I sure did." She would probably be surprised at this, but Neo really wasn't kidding about that, as she was about to see... Both Neo and Diana stepped out of a closet that was located in the main room of a quaint looking two level inn. There were sofas where some of the guests were sitting at, surrounded by bonsai trees on the counters by some of the walls. There was a kitchen down the hall, but connected to the inn was a martial arts dojo. Outside, there was a trail leading from the slope leading to the parking area, and the opposite direction had a small Buddhist temple in the distance. Stairs leading upward were behind the counter where most of the keys to the rooms were taken. Though different from the others was a set of keys with a Captain Tylor keyring. Surrounding the inn outside as a forest, though the leaves and needles had fallen for the season. Neo stopped moving once he was between the stairs and the closet, as some teenagers wearing a martial arts uniform walked in, and instantly dropped their things before bowing towards him and Diana. Students: "Welcome back Valreign-Sensei." Neo: "Thank you both. Don't worry Di, it's always like this when I come home." ????: "Well, now you have people bowing to you. Must be nice..." That was a pleasant sound to hear, as he turned around to see someone stepping down the stairs. It was an older woman in her mid-forties, wearing a silk lavender kimono with sakura petals swirling around it in a delicate pattern. Her hair was just a bit longer then Diana's, but hers was a dark black instead of white, but there were a few gray strands here and there. Diana would feel the arm that was around her during the trip here leave her, and the young man step forward to give her a hug. Shizuka: "I missed you son. Ritsuka, always good to see you." Ritsuka: "You as well, Ms. Valreign." Shizuka: "And who is this lovely young woman here?" Neo: "Oh yeah. Di, this is my mother, Shizuka Sonada-Valreign. Mom, this is my... and even I can't believe I'm saying this again after so long... girlfriend, Diana Elaine McClure." Edited by Neo, Jan 22 2009, 07:58 PM.

It was becoming clear that Neo was a man of many surprises. First the creepy prance through nightmare land and now an inn? Things would never be boring with him, of this she was sure. Exiting the closet made her feel like she’d just left Narnia, well maybe a dark Narnia but the inn soon stole al of her attention. It was a very comfortable environment so much that it almost felt like home in a way. The bonsai trees caught her eye first, maybe because she had one at home that she’d been tending to for longer than she knew. (Before the incident.) "Welcome back Valreign-Sensei." That caused Diana to snap to attention and she was greeted with the sight of martial arts students bowing before them. Obviously the bowing was for Neo but it still felt a bit strange to witness standing there beside him. Even if things were always this way she wasn’t sure it was something that she could ever get used to. Etiquette was something she had been well versed in and it stuck but some things would remain forever strange. However, the biggest surprise was getting ready to reveal itself, or herself as the case may have been. She heard the voice first and turned in time with Neo to see who had spoken. First thoughts: elegant. It wasn’t a second later that Diana noticed she was older and that the kimono was quite beautiful. The arm that slipped from around her waist was missed but by the time Neo had gotten around to introduction she had already figured out who she was. That wasn’t the shocker though. Meeting his mother almost paled in comparison to the dropping of the ‘g’ word. In reality they both tied in matters of shock but ever vigilant Diana’s actions never wavered. Despite the vibrant blush forming on her cheeks she smiled brightly and managed a bow that was both smooth and didn’t cause her to topple over. Inborn grace was a godsend. “It is a pleasure to meet you.” |

Well well now, isn't this a surprise? Neo did mention that there may be bringing a bit of a shocker with him, but not even his mother expected this. Granted, she missed out on meeting his first one, but this time she could actually say that she met the girl that has her son's attention. Well, at least this one, but I digress... Shizuka: "As am I Diana. Please, make yourself at home." Neo: "Wait, where's everyone else Mom?" Shizuka: "Well, your uncle is getting ready for his last class of the year, your father and brother are out, and Master Sakai is out for his morning constitutional. Besides, there's still a good while before we all head out to the Kiyomizu-dera Temple downtown tonight." By now, Diana might be lost. After all, Neo didn't explain what they would be doing all the way out here, but now was just as good of a time then ever. "Well Diana, I wanted to bring you out here to see something I used to do every year before going to AHS, and that's the going to the main temple that overlooks the town, and staying up to see the first sunrise. And well, I didn't want you to be alone tonight, so I thought you might want to come along." Before she could respond though, a set of keys flew through the air, landing right in the palm of Neo's hand. It was the set with the Captain Tylor keyring, while Ritsuka walked over with a seperate set. Ritsuka: "Thought you might need those. I got another set for the room right across from yours for Diana and myself." Neo: "Ok. Sorry mom, we're going to go get a nap in before tonight." Edited by Neo, Feb 2 2009, 02:47 PM.

As Diana stood somewhat lost to the torrent of her emotions and confusion she was beyond a menagerie of feelings, so beyond a simple ‘lost’. Awe struck by Neo’s mother for starters. Still a bit nervous even after her kind words and yet eager to meet the rest of his family so much that it made her antsy. More importantly, yes, she was lost. Looking to Neo for some explanation she was happy to find she was actually rewarded with one, and it made sense. Yet she couldn’t stop the flush from lighting up her cheeks again, couldn’t stop the slight furrow of her brow as she realized that he worried about her. Sometimes it was hard to interpret meanings when you had no past experiences to go by. So while she found it endearing the thought also worried her. More importantly she was taken aback by his consideration and to even include her in something that sounded like tradition. Just as she opened her mouth to say something a set of keys went flying past, thoroughly shattering all thoughts as she turned to look at Ritsuke. Nigh curious, her brow furrowed yet again at the word ‘nap’. Now the question was: How in the world was she supposed to sleep after all of this? Let’s backtrack shall we? She had just completely left her comfort zone and traveled through a realm most spooky. The following sensory overload of greeting and meeting, especially with the mother figure, had commenced. Luckily enough Diana had held herself together but now she wasn’t so sure she could face down a nap. Maybe taking a load off would be beneficial. Not to mention she could peel out of some of these clothes. That was always win but something told her she wouldn’t get any sleep regardless. Nah, she’d be too busy grounding herself and hopefully clearing her head. Smiling again she inclined her head towards Neo’s mother. “Until then…” |

Shizuka: "Of course, I'll see everyone a bit later on." Giving them all a slight, gentle nod, Neo's mom gracefully walked past the three of them, and headed towards the dojo. It was her first time seeing a class inside here in years, especially now that she was welcomed back into the family. And now, Neo yawned one more time, taking Ritsuka by surprise. Ritsuka: "Still tired are we?" Neo: "Yeah, but I usually am today. Come on Di, I'll show you where you'll be staying." And the arm returned to where it was on the way there, as they passed a couple of tourists heading down from the nearby stairs. The upstairs lobby was small, but was just as quaint as it was downstairs. The hallway had 6 doors, positioned across from each other as he went down the hall. Ritsuka's Key led to room #2, meaning that the room with the sign saying "Captain's Quarters" in kanji, and the small mallet hung by a metal loop and string was none other then Neo's room. Especially with him unlocking the door for the first time in ages. Neo: "I'll see you both later tonight, I just need to get some sleep in." Diana would feel the other arm wrap around her, squeezing her gently before he let her go, and closed the door behind him. Ritsuka had opened the other door for her and her impromptu roommate, closing it once she had entered. Diana would see two twin sized beds in this room, with a small television on a dresser, an alarm clock on the nightstand located between the beds, a desk and chair set by the window overlooking the forest behind the inn, Pictures to add to the ambiance and a lamp on the desk and nightstand. There was also a door leading into the small bathroom provided for the both of them. Ritsuka was already used to the decor of the room, and had already removed her coat to place it in the small closet by the door. Ritsuka: "If you don't mind, could I get the bed furthest from the window? I hate getting the glare in my eyes when I'm asleep." Edited by Neo, Jan 26 2009, 09:07 PM.

Her eyebrow lifted slowly as Neo yawned. It was none of her business really but she did wonder why he was so tired today. Again, not her business and as a long missed arm found it’s way back around her she followed Neo where he lead her. That happened to be up the stairs in to another room much like the one downstairs which was settling. Diana didn’t like those places that had a different theme on every floor. Of course she’d only seen them in the movies, that she could remember, but the point still stood. Down the hallway she was greeted with a most amusing sight. The door to Neo’s room was strictly comical but suiting, she didn’t know why though. “Have a nice nap.” There was a quick rush of warmth and then it was gone. Hugs were like that, she mused before following Ritsuka in to their room. It was modest, thankfully. She and’t expected anything flashy anyway. Even if she didn’t actually sleep it would be pleasant to relax for a while in a nice, quiet place like this. “I don’t mind at all.” She chirped, already by the window. Her smiling face turned back towards the glass pane to look outside at the forest. This was really some prime real estate here. She tried to imagine what it would be like in the summer but failed. Instead she traced the lines of tree branches for a while before she realized she was leaning forward and her breath had fogged the glass. Frowning slightly she turned away from the window and lost her coat somewhere in the closet. As her body took over the empty space on the bed she curled up on her side with a certain white dress shirt now replacing the sweater she’d had on. Strange place or not she was guaranteed to be comfortable now. |

Diana would get plenty of time to enjoy just how relatively comfortable that mattress that she was laying on was. She wouldn't even see the dress that Ritsuka was wearing change to a nightgown, as she was completely under the sheets as it happened. Thankfully, she had set the alarm to go off at around 5pm, which as time progressed, Diana's temporarily roommate slept soundlessly until the device sounded off. Yawning lightly, Ritsuka stirred around as she heard the clock activate. Remembering that she wasn't alone for a change, she quickly changed it back to her normal dress before leaning over and hitting the snooze button. "It's 5 already?" She asked, but then the two of them would hear someone knocking at the door. "Ritsuka, are you awake now?" The voice would sound relatively familiar to Diana, and if she opened the door, she'd see the same figure standing behind it that came here with her. Dark hair, green eyes, and he was wearing a black sweater and blue jeans. At least he was courteous enough to not just walk in on the two of them, not like he could without the key anyway. |

There were exactly 5,217 dots on the ceiling. Don’t be judgmental; Diana actually had a decent night’s sleep the night before thanks to a certain article of clothing. So she had been laying there relaxing, counting and, more importantly, clearing her head for the past seven hours. Despite this she felt really rested and surprisingly relaxed. The gifts of a recovering insomniac were many. One thing was for sure, Ritsuka was a silent sleeper… like the dead. Talk about creepy. As the alarm clock was probably the only thing capable of pulling her out of this vegetable state of being she didn’t make a move to turn and look at her roommate until after it went off. Blinking slowly she sat up and stretched. “Wow that went by quicker than I expected.” There was no sarcasm to make that comment sound anything but sincere. The knock at the door came about the time she started to peel out of her ‘sleep’ shirt. Instead of answering she snatched up her pink sweater and pulled the thing over her head. Naturally her hair wanted to frizz with static but she tamed it quick enough to find the bots she’d been wearing were right where she left them. The shirt was promptly folded and hidden away along the inside pocket of her coat. Not that it was a big deal but she didn’t want to go waving it around the place. All of this before the door could ever open. It was strange how time could pass and you could just miss it. One minute it’s daybreak and the next… it was late afternoon. Needless to say she was happy to see Neo again no matter how long it had been. “How was the nap?” |

Rubbing her eyes from her slumber, even Ritsuka had to be impressed with the rate that Diana took to get herself dressed once again. Even though it's been a short time since they started dating, it was like he was starting to rub off on her. Either that, or this was how she usually was, but who was she to judge. Tossing the sheets off of her for a moment, she rolled off of the bed as Diana was heading to the door. The reaction that she would have though, wasn't quite what she was expecting. Instead of hugging her immediately, the person at the door just looked at her quizzically. He didn't hear of anyone else but Ritsuka in this room, so who was she? ????: "Um... sorry? I don't believe that we've met before... how did you know I was taking a nap earlier today?" Neo: "Rion, why are you trying to confuse my girlfriend?" Ah, now that was the sound of the voice that she was used to. This one was perhaps slightly higher, but the face was so similar. But as the other one stepped aside, there indeed was Neo, door to his room closing behind him. Only this one was wearing black jeans, and a white hooded t-shirt. No, her eyes were not playing tricks on her, there really was two of them, and the one from the door, now completely awake, stepped forward to give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Ritsuka: "You forgot to tell her about your brother, didn't you?" Neo: "In my defense, I was half asleep. But yeah, Rion, my girlfriend Diana. Diana, my brother Rion." Rion: "Uh.. hi?" Welcome to the Twilight Zone. Today we’ll be watching Pod People (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) What she was seeing was Neo but what her nose was telling her was ‘stranger’. See if she had paid more attention to it and not been so eager she would have known that it hadn’t been Neo on the other side of the door. It also would have prevented the giant ‘WTF’ look going across her face right now. More importantly she was playing 20 questions in her head with this person. He looked sort of like Neo, had a similar scent but still different and… speak o the devil. As her boyfriend came out of his room Diana’s eyes did a back and forth motion that would have given her whiplash if she’d actually moved her head. Now it made sense. As the more familiar of the announced himself she could still only stand there and stare. The disbelief was eminent and this could have been really bad if she’d done a little more than opened the door. Thankfully her head had been completely clear when this happened and there was nothing else for it to compound on top of. This made relaxing a little easier and she found herself leaning until her side touched Neo’s: A new habit that might later become instinctual if she kept it up. Her confusion had been replaced by a pleasant and more understanding sort of smile by now, definitely a better look on her. “Heh’ Hi.” Now to deal with Neo. That smile quirked at the corner of her lip slightly as she turned to look at her boyfriend. “Next time warn me, please. Sleep or not you shouldn’t forget important details like… ‘oh yeah I have a twin’!” Her elbow nudged him gently as the smirk grew. “It’ll spare me a lot of embarrassing moments.” This only left her to wonder what other surprises awaited around the bend. |

Neo: "I swear, there shouldn't be any more surprises." Rion: "Oh yeah? Dad and Uncle Hayato are downstairs waiting for you." Neo: *gulps* "T-they are? Both of them?" Rion: "Yep, and they're waiting on you. Better head down." Neo didn't have a choice, so he had to release the hold on Diana and head downstairs with coat in hand. Ritsuka followed him, but he gestured to both ot them to follow her as she passed the coat that Diana had worn back to her. Once downstairs, the remaining two people in Neo's surprise were sitting in opposite chairs drinking hot tea that his mother brought for them. The one to Neo's left was a very tall and muscular man of Japanese descent, standing at least 5 inches taller then his nephew, and wearing a dark traditional male kimono and hakama, tabi socks and straw sandals, and holding his cup with one hand. His hair was graying more then his sisters, and his stern facial expression was one to match his age. To his right, another man closer to the age of the lady who brought tea to him, and looked like an older version of the twins that Diana just encountered, but you could see the English descent on his face, under the glasses that he wore. He was the exact same height as his sons, though his hair was just a bit shorter then theirs. For a change, he simply wore a pair of black khakis, a white and blue striped polo shirt and black professional socks. Maxwell: "You're looking well son, now that you aren't in bandages anymore." Hayato: *nods while grunting* "True, and both the master and I still believe that you did a good job back then." Neo: "Thank you dad, uncle." Hayato: "Your mother also told me that you brought your girlfriend here with you tonight?" Shizuka: "He did, and she is quite attractive." |

She gave a small nod of thanks to Ritsuka before following them down the stairwell. She couldn’t help but wonder why Neo had a sudden change in attitude. One moment he was amused and happy and the next he was nervous. He was more of an emotional rollercoaster than she was. That could be amusing in the long run. But why would he be so nervous about his father and uncle being downstairs? If the tables had been turned and it was her father downstairs then there would b need to worry. Firstly she have to find out how he escaped his cell. The next course of action would be to get him back in it and heighten security. More importantly she was still trying to figure something out that had been bothering her since she’d met Neo. Valreign was an interesting and unique surname all it’s own but she felt as if she’d heard it before. Once downstairs she was able to get an eyeful of the two men Neo had ben so hesitant on meeting. Naturally she stood a bit behind him, if only for safety’s sake. The first man was obviously his uncle. He looked a lot like Neo’s mother, which was more than a dead give away. The other man, his father, was enough to give Diana hints of how Neo would look when he got older. Needless to say she liked what she saw but more importantly there was a very calm sort of feeling in the room. Maybe she’d missed something? "Your mother also told me that you brought your girlfriend here with you tonight?" "He did, and she is quite attractive." Oh crap. Diana’s cheeks instantly turned a bright red as she sunk a little behind Neo. They’d obviously been talking about Neo’s arrival, naturally, and she’d come up in the conversation. Of course she’d come up in the conversation. It would be strange if she hadn’t but what she couldn’t figure out was why his mother had to be so generous with the compliments. Diana didn’t think she was a hideous looking person but she was well aware of her strange coloring. How his mother could find her bright white hair, red eyes and dark skin tone attractive was beyond her. Then again, she was Neo’s mother. Swallowing the awkwardness she felt her color started to return to its normal coppery tone and she stepped from behind the shelter of her boyfriend. “You’re too kind Shizuka-san.” |

Soft spoken, yet polite at the same time. And like Shizuka did earlier, both Maxwell and Hayato looked beyond the unique complexion of the young woman that stepped out from behind him. Just like his wife said earlier to him, she was very pretty in her own way. But Maxwell's mind dwelled on one thing. McClure... where have I heard that name from? Anyway, Hayato stood up as she came into view, and walked over to the two of them. She seemed like a good girl and all, and he never questioned his nephew's judgment when it came to his personal life. If she made him happy, who was he to step in? Hayato: "So... this is the young woman who's enamored my former pupil." Maxwell: "Not to mention your nephew Hayato, and my first born son. But I am curious though. Her last name is quite familiar, but I'm not sure from where." Shizuka: "Now now Max, you're on vacation. You promised, no business related talk while we're here." Maxwell: "I know, I know... Is it time to head out now?" Hayato: "It is. Everyone should head out, I'll be locking up in a moment." Most of the other guests of the inn, those who hadn't left by now, were starting to exit through the front doors of the establishment. Neo's immediate family stepped out first, while Ritsuka went with Hayato to help get the place closed up. Neo was still in shock for a moment there, but he found the time to put his coat back on, and slipped his keys into his pocket. "Wow... that went better then I thought. Sorry for putting you on the spot there Di, but we better get going to the temple." |

There was something slightly unsettling about the way they looked at her. Perhaps it was just her nerves again but for a brief moment she felt like a specimen up for examination. A feeling that hit way too close to home and she was shocked even further by that sentiment. Sometimes it was harder than she’d admit not having memories to associate feelings with. Like a highly unsettling déjà vu. Surprisingly enough she didn’t flinch away as Hayato approached them. Though she had to tilt her head back a bit to look up at him. While she was impressed by his height it seemed that Maxwell had been thinking some of the same things she had only moments earlier. A light bulb flared to life in the back of her mind but she put the proverbial shade over it for now. There were matters of much more importance to attend to right now. In her mind this had all gone splendidly. Somehow she couldn’t imagine any of them being rude in the first place but there was always that fear. Even more important than that, she had a fun filled night ahead of her. As everyone made their way out she, like Neo, began to slip on her coat. Laughing lightly at his statement she waved her hand as if to dismiss his concern. “It’s alright, no harm done.” Nudging him with her hip she grinned. With all of the shock gone she now had time to feel giddy about the little adventure she was on. “So what can you tell me about this temple we’re visiting?” |

"Well, it's one of the oldest here in town, so it's a national treasure. That, and a lot of people come here this time of year for the same thing we're doing tonight." The sun had almost set by now, showing a vibrant orange tone in the sky. In the distance, people were starting to gather in the streets of Kyoto, preparing for the festivities of the evening. Now, it was up to Neo to act as the tour guide for Diana, showing her around the city. There was a lot of history here, much more then she might want to take in at once. But at least it wasn't dark like the place that they used to get here with. And with Neo's family heading down one of the streets after making their way down the hill leading to the inn and smaller temple, it gave them some alone time to decide what to do. "I think we've got some time before we should be there anyway, and I'm getting pretty hungry. There's stalls and stuff around, and a lot of the restaurants and stores aren't closing for a while. What are you in the mood for Di? There's places for any sort of meal around, just mention a place." Edited by Neo, Feb 2 2009, 09:17 PM.

As she payed apt attention to what Neo was saying there was something that was a given; the people. Looking about it was becoming painfully apparent that this was going to be a very busy night for the city. Crowds didn’t bother her too much, but they did prove distracting. Yet with Neo next to her the odds were favorable that he would gander all of her attention. Though for a brief moment he would have to take a second seat in lieu of the sunset. The warm colors painting themselves across the sky were enough to make one almost forget the chill in the air. Diana hadn’t truly admired a sunset since her first night home from the hospital. It had been difficult then. She had been difficult and mentally lost among other things. As the sun continued to dip lower she thought of how fitting it was to spend the last evening of the old year watching the sun go down. It had certainly been a short year for her. As Neo pulled her from her would be daydream she was faced with a decision she hadn’t intended on making. Turning to look at him her breath fell short as she saw the way his hair caught the fading rays of sun and how they made his jade eyes sparkle. Diana suddenly found it difficult to come up with anything intelligent to say and for once her face actually showed it. At a time like this there was only one thing to do; follow her nose and distract herself with trying to find some food. “I can’t believe you’re leaving this up for me to decide…” Sniffing the air only proved to befuddle her racing mind even more. The scent of other people mingled with the odor of food wafting through the air and proved hard to separate. Despite the lure of restaurants the street vendors had caught her attention first and thus won her over. “I want… takoyaki, ishiyaki imo and either a chocolate filled taiyaki or strawberry uirō to finish.” Someone was feeling authentic. |

This was indeed a rare sight to see. As Neo looked over to his date, Diana just returned his gaze with a look that just screamed that she wanted to say something, but the words escaped her at that moment. Granted, that only caused him to look towards her with a rather confused look for a moment, but this would pass over eventually. Besides, the suns rays bouncing off of her skin did make her look more vibrant then she already does for that brief moment. Eventually, after she decided on what she wanted, Neo saw a couple of stands containing her choices, and one of his own, down a different path that his family had already started down. "Takoyaki for you, but I'm in the mood for some Tempura Soba myself." It was relatively easy to get everything that she wanted, especially the ishiyaki imo. Neo picked up some Tempura Soba, a crab meat korokke, a chocolate filled Taiyaki and a bottle of Ramune to wash it down. Of course, he would have bought one for Diana as well, he was covering all of this after all. Not wanting to carry all of this around, Neo found a table nearby for the two of them, and escorted Diana over, waiting for her to sit before he did. It's been a while since he's been home, and even though it was crowded, it still felt the same. "Well Di, dig in. Itadakimasu..." At least he remembered his proper etiquette before digging into his Soba. And every bit of it was just as delicious as if he had made it. Thankfully, there was plenty of time to enjoy it all. "So, what do you think?" |

As they wandered from stand to stand retrieving her grocery list of a meal and along with Neo’s selections Diana found herself in a bit of a quandary. She wanted to argue, really, over who would foot the bill. Yet she kept her mouth shut as the voice in her head, which sounded much like her mother’s, told her that if Neo wanted to cover it all then let him and shut up. This didn’t make it any easier of a task and as such she was more than happy to finally sit down. “Heh’. Itadakimasu!” With that the first of the dumplings found its way in to her mouth. Her eyes wandered while a satisfied sigh tried escaping her lips. There seemed to be more people out than a moment ago or either her imagination was getting away with her. Taking a rather large bite of her sweet potato she grinned as the flavor satiated her taste buds only to find herself at odds with her mouth and manners when Neo asked his question. Chewing quickly she managed to swallow, a bit painfully, with out choking or making a fool of herself. “Divine.” A quick sip of Ramune calmed her would-be sore throat before she could continue. “The dumplings are delicious and the potato’s cooked perfectly and…” Despite going on and on about the food as it might have appeared she was going to do she had other things on her mind. “I’m having a lot of fun. Your family seems really nice, especially your mother.” By now her cheeks were tinged pink and her eyes crinkled at the edges as she smiled. At some point she had become rather expressive with her hands. “I honestly didn’t know what to expect before we arrived and ‘pleasantly surprised’ doesn’t seem to do this justice. So far, I really like it here.” |

Wow.... and he didn't even cook for her this time. At least Diana was verbally pleased with what she had, what with that sigh that escaped her lips. Even Neo would have to admit, he did occasionally miss the cuisine here now and then. And as he devoured more of his noodles, he just listened as she went on over how her part was. The part with her hands did puzzle him for a moment though, but he did get the message. "Yeah, I do too. Though you should see it in Spring, it's really nice around here then." Taking a bite of his korokke, Neo leaned back as he looked out over the part of the city that they were in. Years ago, he wouldn't have been out alone like this, but things were very different now, it was much more peaceful to him. "Yeah, I've had my moments here, but it's still home to me." There was a moment where he had a rather thoughtful look on his face, one that Diana could expressly see. But, there were pleasant thoughts that he had on his mind, and as he finished his Soba, Neo looked directly towards his date. "Hey Di, I didn't really thank you for coming with me yet. I'm really having fun too, and from what I've seen, it looks like my family does like you. Especially my mom and uncle." |

There was a moment of silence as she tried to imagine Kyoto in the Spring. There were happy faces, freshly bloomed cherry blossoms and warm sunshine. This all conjured up a long awaited yearning of wanting to wear her kimono and pretend she was a local for the day. All of this had to take a second seat to the expression on Neo’s face. Mental snapshots were taken as she failed to bring a camera. All the while she wondered if she could have felt the same of her hometown, if she had remembered it. Maybe not, Japan was slowly becoming ‘home’ now. Diana was taking a bite out of the tail end of her taiyaki and savoring the chocolaty taste of it as Neo began to speak of his tanks for her coming. To say she was taken aback was an understatement. Needless to say she was pleased at hearing his family liked her but that wasn’t the shocker. If they had been put off by her or her manners she would have sensed it immediately. More importantly there was something that he said that would be difficult for her to comprehend. Perhaps Diana, too, was as clueless about these sorts of things as Neo was about others. To thank her for coming along… “You’re welcome?” Her face fumbled through a confused expression as her mouth spoke the words. “You’re the one that did –me- the favor here though. If it weren’t for you I’d still be back at school, probably cleaning out my dorm or something equally as lame.” Chocolate wonder forgotten she leaned over the table slightly. “Feel free to rescue me from potentially dull situations anytime.” |

This was probably presumptuous to say, but did Neo actually get the cat to not land on her feet for a change? Was Diana not expecting to come from him for a change? The look of confusion was a definite indicator of that. And even though there was a small trail of chocolate on her face, very noticeable as he ate the last of his korokke, he leaned forward once he swallowed his food. "I'll keep that in mind anytime, sweetheart." Diana would feel a hand be placed over hers, as Neo just stared back at her. Shutting out everyone around him besides her, he was starting to feel lost. Lost in those ruby eyes of hers, not wanting to give a care to anything else in the world. But, he knew he had one more thing to do. "So, ready for the trip to the temple now?" He was, of course, listening to everything that she would have to say, but at the same time, turning around to point out where the temple was. Thing is, it's not so much over... as it is up. They could see the terrace from the point they were sitting at, in addition to people walking up a trail. He still had his Taiyaki to eat, but it would be a good snack for the walk there. "Don't worry Di, it's not as long of a trip as it may look." |

There was the sound of distant thunder ringing in her ears. On further investigation she found it to be nothing more than the pounding of her own heart. The simplest of touches had caused her heart to start racing in an almost frantic pace. Likewise a rush of adrenaline raced through her veins like and injection of red bull. More importantly, for a brief moment, Diana felt fear. It would always be there, that singular feeling that this, too, may one day be taken from her. The twinge of that emotion passed quickly as she realized there was no reason for it to ruin this and thus lost herself to the moment once more. “Yes.” The word came out almost breathlessly, even to her own ears. Diana’s eyes followed his hand as she craned her head to see for herself. One eyebrow arched slightly as the magic was broken any thoughts of having to leave and here and walk. Of course, it wasn’t really the thought of a walk that bothered her but she must have given off that aura guessing from Neo’s next comment. Wiping her mouth with a napkin she shook her head. “Long or not a walk is just what I need after eating.” Taking the last sip her drink had to offer she gathered up her trash and scooted from the table a bit. “Shall we?” |

So soft spoken for a change, this wasn't the impetuous Diana that Neo brought with him here to his hometown, now was it? Was she in deep thought over something just now? He'd have to remember to ask her what she was thinking about one of these days, if even he would remember it after tonight. Back to his feet, he nodded to her as he picked up whatever garbage that he had and disposed of it in the nearest trash bin, still with his desert in hand. Taking bites of it here and there, he pointed out a few more historical locations, or just the occasional place that he went to a lot while he was still living here primarily. He even saw a few old classmates of his, who at one point didn't give him the time of day, was now nodding and waving to him. He'd never know how jealous they were that he had such a hottie like Diana, and they were just plain salarymen. Neo's Karma just went up a few points just then. The Taiyaki now finished, he threw away the wrapper it was contained in before they started up the hill. Just like Neo promised, it was only about a half hour of walking from where they were to the grand main gates of the temple. From there, he led her past the Jishu Shrine, and led her to the veranda that overlooked the main city. "The view here is worth it. You can see almost everything from up here. And, we still have some time til the main festivities begins, so take it all in." |

Enthralled by all of the sights Diana found herself looking this way and that as Neo interjected with the proper monologue. There seemed to be so much and not enough time. There were questions that needed to be asked and exploring she wanted to do. They’d have to come back here some day. How presumptuous of her to assume they might even be together that long but one could still hope. In the meantime, was it possible to get whiplash this way? She tried to imagine a younger Neo hanging around this town. Tried to picture him with friends and doing fun things. It must have been a great thing to have something to come back to. All that was awaiting Diana back home was a big impersonal building with lots of people who knew her name and spoke it with only the utmost of respect yet knew very little about her. Those ruby hued eyes briefly caught sight of the people that waved at him and thus cemented her previous thoughts. The things she’d never know. At the foot of the hill she dared herself to look up. It was like so any dreams she’d had. A long path upwards, yet in her dreams she never got to finish it. Later she would be reminded of this and find a means to locating the meaning of it all. For now though the veranda was taking up all of her attention and the vision before her even more so than that. Breath stolen she took in the immense picture with a slow sweeping gaze. Places like this were always good at stealing her imagination. “This is amazing, I mean, really beautiful. It looks like one of those murals you’d find in a tiny apartment. The kind people pay good money for.” |

Amnesia is a funny thing, in one aspect. Neo's been here several times, and he's used to seeing the sight of the lights flashing in Kyoto. But to see Diana's reaction to it all, just feeling so impressed with everything she's seeing. It's like everything is so brand new for her, so immaculate. "It is, but to me, there are some things that money just can't buy. I think I just saw one just now." A roundabout way of saying it sure, but she might be able to get the reference. It was subtle, but deep down it meant quite a bit. He honestly enjoyed this time he's spending with Diana, brief it may be so far, but this was something that he hoped to do again. Granted, he may have been thinking ahead, but this was something he was used to by now. Just then, he felt a tap on his shoulders, and he turned to see his brother standing behind him. Rion pointed upwards to where their parents and uncle were heading into the main temple, along with some of the other visitors there. "Well Di, that's our cue. Now for the longest part of the night." He was joking about that part, but he escorted her inside. They were able get seats behind the others, and eventually the area got to the point of being almost overflowed before the head monk began his normal yearly address to bring in the new year. An hour passes, and he finally finishes. "Now's where you give a prayer and make a wish." Neo whispered, before lowering his head and closing his eyes. A bell was struck once, then again, and again until all 108 chimes were finished. |

Naivety was not so abundant that Diana couldn’t understand the deeper meaning behind Neo’s words. The butterflies that had been in her stomach, once stagnant, now came to life in her chest, tickling her heart with their wing beats. If she didn’t know better she would have thought they were palpitations. Yet there was no time to linger on possible underlying medical conditions. The diagnosis was simple enough and it had everything to do with the metaphysical. In other words, Diana was falling head over heels because her emotions were all over the place. As fate would have it the magical moment was broken and reality came crashing down at a snail’s pace. Of course this had been the reason they’d come in the first place so in relative silence she followed Neo to the temple. Taking in the sights from the outside paled in comparison to what she saw once inside. This was the first time, she could recall, in a temple. It was very exciting but in a more… tranquil way, if that was even possible. More importantly she didn’t once fidget during the monk’s address. That alone made her proud of herself. Looking at Neo out the corner of her eyes she smiled and nodded, following his lead. There were so many new experiences, so much to be thankful for. She made a number of unselfish wishes in thought of her family and newfound friends. Somehow she couldn’t make just one, but maybe she’d be forgiven for her greediness since none of them were for personal gain. There was one for Alex, then another for her and Haru. Another one for her mother who always seemed busy with work. A wish for her father in hopes that the coming year would be a new beginning for him as well. A few more for the new people in her life and finally the coupe de grace. Last but not least, and possibly most important of all, there was one for Neo. The conditions of these wishes were between her and who ever was listening. If with any luck they’d all come true, one day. Surprisingly enough when the bells were sounding they didn’t bother her. Diana was starting to feel very ‘zen’ right now so that might have had a lot to do with it. She wasn’t sure how long it took them to finish, nor did she care. At that point she looked to Neo again, smile small to suit her sober mood. Too bad this was only a once a year thing. That was the most fun she’d ever had sitting in silence. “That was very enlightening.” She spoke softly in a whisper in lieu of the atmosphere. “What’s next?” |

There were quite a few wishes that Neo had on his mind at that moment. Like Diana, most of his were for his family and friends, with one particular one praying that Haru doesn't do anything to get himself kicked off the air or arrested. It seems to work, he hasn't been busted yet. But the last one was dedicated to the young woman sitting beside him. He was starting to see how it was like between his mother and father when they met. Oh god, he's thinking about his parents, time to change the subject quickly... What’s next? "Next?" Thankfully for him, the ceremony had ended, and people had started leaving by the time Neo's little outburst there was made. In fact, his parents, uncle and brother just turned to him at that moment, just trying to figure out what caused that to happen. Maxwell: "Um, are you alright Neo?" Neo: "Fine, just fine. Couldn't be better. *chuckles incoherently* As if they needed a reason to stare at him strangely, especially after they saw that performance he gave months ago. He had his serious side, and as Diana was seeing right now, he had his times where he was just thrown under the bus, so to speak. Guess it proves he's human, after all. A bit later, once everyone was outside, Shizuka said that she and Maxwell were heading into town, and Rion was going to head off with Hayato to see where Ritsuka headed to. Once they had departed, Neo looked at his phone to see the time. "Well Diana, the sermon was just as long as I thought it would be. Cause we have thirty seconds before the fireworks start. Come on, lets go back to the veranda." |

Neo’s family weren’t the only ones looking at him strangely. Diana had, likewise, taken on an expression of shock. Was it something she said? Mentally backtracking left her still in the dark. She hadn’t said much of anything really so that couldn’t be it. Further perplexed she bit her tongue from saying anything just yet and just gave the boy a nervous smile. Better not to add fuel to the fire. And here she thought he was a serious person all of the time. How wrong she was. Promptly shaken by the prospect of fireworks her expression lifted in to something more excited. “Only 30 seconds? We better book it then.” Without thinking she took his hand and began to weave them a way to the veranda. Perhaps if Diana had known Neo was a speedster she would have let him lead the way. No matter the method Diana was no less excited or startled when she heard the first firecracker explode and light up the sky. “Oh my.” Giggling that sounded like the tinkling of small bells fell from her lips as she covered her ears. They were loud, especially to her overly sensitive hearing. She’d become accustomed to them shortly but in the meantime… “It’s so pretty.” |

They arrived at the veranda of the shrine with twenty seconds to spare before midnight, what with the doors that they used to exit the temple being nearby. Neo's parents and brother situated at separate locations, leaving both himself and Diana alone, amongst the few others that were still there. It was starting to crowd by now, as the people were looking at the seconds countdown from a screen situated on one of the buildings. It’s so pretty. "It is, but there's something prettier to me." As soon as Neo reached over and held Diana's other hand, just as the other people around them started the final countdown. "10!" "Diana, I have to say it now... "...9! ...8! ...7! ...6!" ...There's no way I could thank you, for even just being here with me... "...5! ...4! ...3! ...2!" ...but if anything, this is the best start that I can think of..." "1!" And as soon as everyone around them shouted one, Neo leaned in, closed his eyes, and pressed his lips softly against hers. His hands moving from where they were holding her hands, and ending up around her waist. And as soon as the realization that he had actually kissed her could set in, they would both hear fireworks being set off in the sky, with vibrant shades of colors reflecting off of them as the crowd around around them cried out in unison... "HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!" Edited by Neo, Mar 10 2009, 08:09 PM.

It was the night that Diana enjoyed most. She’d choose sunsets over sunrise’s any day but tonight was especially spectacular. It was difficult to focus on Neo with all of the commotion around her but he somehow managed to pull in all of her attention. It seemed that making her blush had become as easy for Neo as breathing. Feeling her cheeks warm she fidgeted slightly where she stood. There were very few things that could truly cause her to lose that edge. This was one of them. There was no time to argue, no spare seconds to think twice. No way for her to tell him she’d be happy to accompany him anytime he wished. It wasn’t like she couldn’t see him drawing closer or predict what was going to happen next but with her heart pounding in her ears it was hard to concentrate. Then suddenly, they were lip locked in a more than exhilarating kiss that ignited more than a few sparks. No, not sparks. Diana had her personal set of fireworks to worry about right now and they brought shame to the show in the sky. Now her world was spinning and Neo had wedged himself in the middle. Yet she wasn’t sure when her arms had managed to wrap around him but she sure was holding on for dear life. What a perfect way to start the New Year; lip locked and grasping at fleeting moments that made her heart beat like a shaken rabbit. So Diana made a wish. One selfish little wish for herself, she hoped it wasn’t too late. When that unbelievable moment ended she felt the cold sting of the air on her lips. The wind’s kiss was nowhere near as welcoming. Neo filled her senses and she let her eyes fall as he leaned her forehead on his. Lopsided as her smile was it conveyed what she wanted, maybe. Not being able to organize her thoughts she began to feel silly and couldn’t excuse her small chuckle. A few deep breaths and she finally looked up, searching for those jade orbs as she was suddenly robbed for words and so she blurted out the first thing that came to mind. “Happy New Year, Neo.” The commotion around them had faded long ago. Mute background to something more important. It was decided; her life was turning in to a book; a very well written and fascinating book. |
