Pulling out her yoga pants and a tank top Ally pulled on the clothes and paused to run a brush through her hair and whisk it up into a pony tail before grabbing her hoodie as an after thought and heading out of her door. At the first evaluation it was clear she was not on a physical level with many of the stronger students who's ability laid in their physical prowess, so students like Ally were left to fall through the cracks; or so she thought. The current offering was yoga, which Ally had done enough to enjoy the activity.

Arriving early enough there were only a few other students milling around Ally snagged a mat from the bin and chose a spot off to the side and towards the back; she liked yoga, she wasn't spectacular at it despite her flexibility. The instructor was already at namaste, occasionally doing sweeping arm motions and humming - eyes always closed.

Sweeping the fringe of hair that had already escaped the pony tail behind her ears Ally settled in and began some preliminary stretching.

Lath strode wearily into the gym complex, already bored out of his mind (the week had only just started, too). Mondays were made of evil, he decided. Surely, a day of the week so vile could not have been created by a just and loving god. No...Mondays were the work of chaos. Dropping his bag with a loud, hollow THUD noise, Lath plopped to the hard floor in a similar manner. It wasn't that he was tired (he had considerable reserves of energy, as he believed in a proper repast in the mornings). No, he was simply restless.

Lath sighed to himself and mumbled under his breath,

"So...boring."

Noting some of the students on the other end of the gym pulling out basketballs for what appeared to be a game of knockout, Lath felt a small tug from his body as it instinctively moved to retrieve a stray ball. Lath mastered himself and stayed down...if he got up now, he would be obligated to play, and that would be exciting (and ultimately counter-productive for him). No...it was better if he stayed put.

Almost as soon as he had that thought, Lath rescinded it as the gym began to fill with the rampant sounds of a heated basketball game.

This early in the morning? he thought with annoyance. They'll waste their energy for the real thing later.

Regardless, he didn't want to listen to it, so Lath picked himself and his bag up, making tracks for the next court over. The door had numerous little flyers for Yoga, Tai Chi, and other such calm, meditative arts. Lath grinned. That would be perfect...quiet and serene. He might even indulge a bit himself...he did have his exercise suit on (was too troublesome to take the time to change). Shrugging, Lath pushed the door open and strode through, immediately sensing the aura of peace in the room.

Smiling to himself, Lath peered about for a free corner in which to dump his stuff as he kicked his tennis shoes across the gym. Landing (somewhat) neatly in the back left corner, Lath set his bag down as well. Looking about, Lath was pleased to note that there were comparatively few students here. It was a bit early in the day, so that was to be expected.

Leaving his t-shirt on, Lath yanked a mat a bit harder than he meant to from the bin, overturning it and making a large mess of the numerous foam and plastic pads. Making a "tch" noise, Lath deftly lifted the bin back into place with his right leg and spun on his left as he did, picking up the mats as he walked along. Once he had them all back in the barrel, he picked his up and set it near his things in the corner, a slight distance from the other students.

Lath was not the anti-social sort--far from it, he loved making friends--but he WAS worried about people seeing his eyes or mouth. It was bad enough that he had a slightly azure tinge to his skin and noticeable veins, but his eyes and mouth just looked freakish (in his mind, anyway).

With his mat in place, Lath began a short series of stretches to loosen his body, each of his joints making painfully loud cracking and popping noises.

A few other students had entered as Ally had sat idly on her own mat, namely another girl she recognized from shop class – Maddie. She smiled and the girl returned her smile and a silent acknowledgement was formed as the younger, smaller girl laid out her mat a respectable distance away and began a few stretching movements of her own. The class was sparse, which suited both girls just fine.

Leaning over Maddie braved to assume the other girl was a native English speaker and though her accent was decidedly not an English, “You were in my shop class, were you not?”
Ally nodded at the other girl with a bright smile and held out her own hand, “I’m Ally.”

Returning the smile with a grin Maddie shook the older girls hand, “Maddie.”

At this moment a loud thud and the sound of plastic mats hitting the floor caused both girls to give their full attention to something else – whatever was causing the commotion. A boy neither had seen and both merely accepted as another student seemed to have gotten into a fight with the mat-bin. He seemed to quickly win the battle as the instructor rose gracefully to her feet and after a short, soft spoken introduction had the lights dimmed and some soft music playing for the ambiance factor.

Both girls stood, Maddie glanced over her shoulder at the afore mentioned boy who was rather off by himself. It was his choice but she didn’t understand why he had to be all solitary. And that was the last thought for a while that either Maddie or Ally – neither being endowed with abnormal strength or stamina – could spare for anyone besides themselves.
The instructor fired off in quick succession the poses, breezing through the explanation leaving those lesser experienced to look around for someone who looked like they knew what they were doing to emulate. Thirty minutes into the session the instructor called for a brief respite in child’s pose in which both girls flopped down in, breathing heavily and a solid sheen of sweat covering both. They glanced at each other with a clear-marked expression on their faces and a dread of what the next thirty minutes had in store…

Lath smiled to himself as he fell not into the child pose but a standard cross legged seat. He was not technically doing Yoga, but the idea was still there. Lath's family, the Dokukawa, had developed a unique brand of yoga that called for sometimes odd poses and twists that were meant to fully use all of the body's muscles. While conventional Yoga did the same, Dokukawa style was more efficient and besides, Lath was already familiar with it. The instructor did not mind...or, if she did, she gave no indication.

Noting the great perspiration of the majority of the students, Lath was surprised to find that he himself was also a bit sweaty. He did not usually work himself to such a state, so he was a bit suprised. Not a problem...Because he was so familiar with Dokukawa yoga, he didn't have to focus on what he was doing, and it gave him time to think.

The subject for this session? His impending arranged marriage to Dokukawa Sayomi. This news had not hit him as hard as he thought it would. One would assume that any normal person would make a bigger stink about it than Lath had, but then...there really was no fighting his grandmother. Besides...that girl was nice, and he got along exceptionally well with her. It might not be so bad to be married to her... More worrisome, his mother had yet to call him or talk to him in the months since his weekend trip. Lath wondered if she was angry with him for agreeing.

Exhaling softly, Lath resolved to give his mother a call after this session he was in was through. This was not a matter to be left in the air.

Lath stood and calmly brought his left leg into the air, parallel with his body. It felt good to stretch out the kinks he seemed to develop daily. Dropping his leg and repeating with the other, Lath heard a sudden "Er-Hem!" noise and noted that he was garnering a look of disapproval from the instructor. Was she against his presence? Looking about, Lath suddenly realized two things.

First, he was one among very few males in the gym (which probably looked bad to her). Second, he was being stared at (which didn't sit well with him). A lot. He actually couldn't stifle a chuckle at the sight of the instructor looking angrily at him with numerous faces on the floor looking in his direction, their faces squished by the mats. Spinning on his right foot and coming back to a cross-legged position, Lath motioned for the instructor to continue, his face now serene and emotionless.

The instructor lanced him with one more "I'm watchin' yoo" face before moving on with her class.

Maddie laid on her mat, panting, wondering what she had gotten herself into. As one of those students who did not have extraordinary strength or other physical endowments she had this class recommended to her. She had thought it would be easier, but as the instructor had begun by calling a quick succession of, full forward, half, plank, cobra, downward dog, as quick as you could get there you were already behind! Rolling her head sideways she caught the girl –Ally’s – eyes and the two shared a moment of silent conversation. Thank god for body language; they were both overwhelmed and glad for the others presence. Stifling giggles they realized that most of the class was intent on something.

Craining her head Maddie looked in the direction seeing the late-coming dark haired boy doing his own thing in the back of the room; the dim light made something about his appearance a little odd. Whatever it was she didn’t get a chance to study it further as he suddenly became aware of the spectacle he had made himself and very quickly assumed Sukhasana. The instructor – for whatever reasons – was not amused by whatever was going on. Maddie herself didn’t really get it, but the little Indian woman apparently demanded complete obedience. Glancing back at Ally the two girls shared a moment of wide eyes and shrugging.

Looking back at the boy Maddie couldn’t help but giggle; the teacher was being silly. He should be able to do whatever he wanted. Making a rather comical face that she intended to convey the thoughts of, ‘Wow – she’s a crazy lady isn’t she?’ – she more or less succeeded in making herself look very silly.

“Right class, Mountain –“

Groaning both girls hauled themselves up and assumed the position of the mountain, feet planted and arms upstretched….

Lath caught the young woman's communique glance, and replied with a smiling nod. As the class reached into the air, Lath performed the opposite maneuver and planted his hands, bringing his body and legs into the air. As he did, he was irritated to see that his mat was interefering with his balance. Wondering what to do about it, Lath eventually decided on a tricky solution.

Pushing hard off of his left hand and bouncing into the air, he swiped the mat out from under him and slammed his hands back to the hard gym floor, doing a vertical push-up to compensate for gravity. His hands tingled and his arms were starting to burn, so Lath internally decided that next time, he would just drop the pose and move the mat himself. No point in wasting his energy pulling a stunt....

Looking up (forward), Lath noted that the instructor was pushing the class fairly hard. That was unusual--Yoga was supposed to be a relaxing art, not an art of physical exertion (at least, not to that point). Despite this, most of the class was covered in a fine film of perspiration and Lath himself, while not following their moves, was following their pace with his own poses. He too was beginning to tire...mentally, he wondered if perhaps the instructor had some supernatural endurance. Conversely, she might have just been at this a very long time and was used to it.

Lath pulled his legs around and underneath him in a quick clockwise sweep, spinning in place and coming to rest on his back with a hollow thud that echoed through the mostly empty gym. Staring at the ceiling, he noticed what appeared to be a baloon in the girders. This annoyed him--what was the point of maintenance crew if they weren't going to retrieve the things that counted as trash?

Ignoring it, Lath rolled over onto his stomach and proceeded to observe the class. The overwhelming majority seemed to be new as they struggled to keep pace with the instructor (who seemed to be going even faster, if that was possible). Again, he internally wondered why she was setting such a breakneck pace. He also noted to his dismay that the instructor was again giving him the stink-eye and made a "hmf" noise in response, rolling over again and setting his hands behind his head in a pose of perfect relaxation.

Ally, for the most part, closed her eyes and focused on the rhythm of the class. Sure it was pressing them, this was defiantly a more advanced class as each position was to be done in one breath and flowed into the next. Slowly she found her rhythm, bobbing at times and trading inside glances with the strawberry blonde – Maddie – next to her. Occasionally she would catch a glimpse of the boy in the corner who seemed to be whatever he pleased. Ally didn’t really care one way or another as long as he wasn’t too noisy, but she could understand how his antics could very well irritate the instructor. Ignoring him she concentrated on the Candlestick pose they were doing now.

Maddie was a little less disciplined than Ally. She had rarely done physically demanding work and the pace of the class was beyond her attention span. She attempted to emulate Ally but found her thoughts wandering around the room and more often than not she was glancing over at the dark haired boy in the corner by himself. He made her giggle, which probably didn’t help his standing with the instructor at all as it merely added to the distraction factor.

Balancing on one foot she lowered herself into the Candlestick pose and she really did try to not fall over, but it was inevitable. With a very distracting yelp she crashed sideways, taking out a very serene Ally and the next girl over. All three girls floundered on the ground as the instructor calmly explained the benefits of spreading the toes wide and creating roots that went into the mat to hold themselves in perfect compliance to the pose. Of course Maddie heard none of this as she was bright red and scurrying to both girls to help them up and catch up with what was going on in the class.

Thankfully they retreated into the downward facing dog and Maddie was at least able to hide her very red face behind a waterfall of strawberry blonde hair…Only fifteen minutes left!

Lath craned his head up (backwards) as he heard a tumult behind him. From the look of things, it had turned into a three girl pile-up. Yikes. Lath stifled a giggle as he observed the tangled mess of girls try (in vain, for the most part) to extricate themselves from one another. As the trio finally managed to stand and get back into position, Lath made note of the brightly scarlet face of the girl with strawberry blonde hair. She was embarrassed that badly by a little fall?

Lath shrugged to himself as he stared once more at the ceiling. One of the gym windows was just above him, acting as a sort of skylight. This was interesting to him: He liked watching the clouds go by, and was not disappointed by the fluffy white poofs that even now trundled lazily overhead in the big blue sky. Lath wondered what flying was like; he envied the students that had that ability or had a vehicle that could soar. The ultimate freedom...no one to tell you what to do but you. No constraints, no walls, just the unending azure expanse.

Smiling to himself, Lath mumbled a small song, chanting,

"Saa ryoute hiroge ano kumo wokoete, niji no achi kugette mezasu basho he, fly awaaaaaaay....kimi gasobanirukaraaaa..."

Lath let the small piece of a song die off into silence. It would be wonderful to fly away from all of the troubles of the world. At the same time, he had a responsibility now. He wouldn't even if he could. There was a girl that he needed to look after, and he needed her to look after him.

...This was not the place for serious thoughts. Lath banished them and grinned to the sky, amused that he worried so much internally. He had to remain calm. Flipping back over, Lath hauled himself to his feet and paced briskly to the instructor. Squatting lightly in front of her, he spoke.

"I'm sorry for interrupting your class again, sensei. Please don't look at me like that...I do not recall meriting such a venomous expression."

That said, Lath marched right back to his corner, retrieved his mat, and began practicing what appeared to be some corruption of Tai Chi and capoeira in slow motion.

((OOC: Sooo soory, Friday I got real busy and didn’t get any posting done and I don’t have internet access at my apartment so this is from my phone, so typos, funny characters and whatnot - hope they don’t happen!))

The last fifteen minutes, fifteen minutes…

That’s what Maddie kept telling herself. Only fifteen more minutes.

Ally was just concentrating on holding the positions; she hadn’t much experience with yoga and this class was testing her. She couldn’t imagine what the classes for the other students with physical powers were like. She understood that physically she needed to be able to handle herself; it was a holistic approach. Whatever her powers were as they had yet to manifest themselves, well they could be developed as well.

“Chataranga.”

Sliding down both girls ears pricked up as a distinctly masculine voice started singing….singing? During a yoga class? Ally glanced over her shoulder but Maddie momentarily stared. It trailed off and she realized she was already behind. Scrambling to catch up she glanced again at the odd boy in the back of the class. Was he being forced to be here? Because he certainly didn’t seem like he wanted to.

And mid-thought at the moment they were switching into an inversed position that of all things put the focus on the back of the room right when the odd boy was speaking to the instructor….five minutes to go and he didn’t want to wait? And then of course they moved back as he went back to the back of the classroom and started doing his own thing. Five minutes left and he couldn’t wait?

Well the last five minutes were awkward and as soon as they were over the instructor breezed out of an almost concealed door. The class broke up fairly quickly. It seemed like everyone had someplace to go or just didn’t want to be there. Maddie rolled over and laid on her stomach and watched the boy. It looked to her like he wanted attention. Next to her Ally wasn’t moving for different reasons. She didn’t understand why the boy was being distracting but at the moment she wanted to do more stretching. Certain parts of her felt very sore and shaky. Glancing over at the younger girl and then at the boy she shrugged her shoulders and decided that it might be best to mind her own business at the moment.

((I did was not aware of this limitation and for that, I apologize. It was rude of me to press the issue. On a side note, Lath wasn't really singing more than mumbling a song to himself. That your characters heard it is both surprising and impressive.))

Lath was already on his hands again, very slowly bringing his legs around himself and finally coming to rest on his stomach. This was hard, even if it was something he was accustomed to. Mentally he made a sticky note to wipe this mat down after he was done with it...wouldn't do to have the next user going numb because of him. Lath looked up and to his surprise the class was filtering out...with unusual speed. Perhaps he had offended he group as a whole?

In retrospect, interrupting the class HAD been a bit rude. And he had done it...what, twice, thrice? He should apologize to the instructor, too. He would...later. For now, he would first--

Hoisting himself up with brisk precision, Lath lifted a corner of the mat with his foot and snatched it by the corner, lifting it and giving it a very fast rub-down with his t-shirt, the telltale blue haze beginning to show on the pure white fabric. Irritated, he folded the mat up and tossed in the bin. He would have to go get a new shirt from the dorms before class...forget that, he had to get his uniform on! Looking at the clock on the southern wall, Lath relaxed when he noted that he still had a good hour. He could be ready in fifteen minutes, so why hurry?

Lath knelt and retrieved his shoes, slipping them on his feet as he threw his shirt in his bag. It was no good until laundry day came around. Lath looked once more at the clock and briefly considered his options. He could just hang here until he had to go change, or he could do the responsible thing and go change now so he KNEW he had time.

With a loud thud, Lath's bag hit the floor again. Settling down next to it, Lath smiled to himself, thinking, who had ever accused him of being the responsible sort? He had time.

((OOC: Ah - the mumbling, well - it was in quotes so I figured it could be heard.))

Ally had somewhere to be so after a few casual lines of banter with the girl Maddie, Ally stood up and gathered her things - the younger girl shaddowing her actions as they idlly chattered on.

"Well, I need to get cleaned up and back to the library," tossing a few stay pieces of hair out of her eyes she smiled at the girl and offered to take her mat to the bin.

"It was nice to actually meet you Ally," Maddie beamed. People were her passion. She liked people, finding out about them, and investing in them.

"You too; you should come by sometime - I live on the 5th."

And with that, Ally was gone.

Maddie, on the other hand, took her time getting her few things together. About that time the odd boy let his bag fall, an odd look on his face that seemed to bode well for mischief...

"What's your name?" Her clear, young voice eachoed slightly in the empty room - save for the two of them. The last of the stragglers had left in Ally's wake.

Lath looked up in surprise. He had not expected the strawberry blonde to still be in the gym, let alone address him. She was slow...almost deliberate. She was stalling for time, perhaps?...Nah. Not for the sake of speaking to him. No one did that but his family and Sayomi. But then, there she was, taking her time. Surely, she had somewhere else to be? She seemed like the sort to have a busy schedule. None of these thoughts left Lath's mind, not even reaching his face which was now a mask of impassiveness.

"Me? My name is Lathspell, or Kisen, depending on who you ask. I do not believe I know you...what is your name, strawberry?"

Lath cocked his head, his face now one of curiosity and amusement. Apparently he thought himself very funny.

Maddie being Maddie, well she giggled at the strawberry comment. She was acustomed to people pointing it out, playing with it, etc, so the comment wasn't anything other than another odd compliment to her mind.

"Maddie, just Maddie," she smiled, grasping her hands behind her back and rocking back and forth slightly.

It was a good thing the fourteen year old had no presumptions to appearing older than her age because more often than not she looked much younger. An appearance only amplified by her child-like joy and good heart. She lived life in a constant state of enjoyment and appreciation, which eventually some found contageious.

"You don't know me," she continued, tilting her head to the right, causing the pigtails to move and wave of their own accord, "but you do now. So do you prefer to be called Lathspell or Kisen?" It was not a flirtateous gesture; Maddie honestly wanted to know everyone she could. She felt like the people she met and the relationships she built enriched her life so much more than money or things - which she had plenty of and little real need for.

She smiled a lot...she seemed to have a lot to find joy in. That was good. She was even considerate enough to ask which HE preferred to be called. That was rare--most people simply picked the one they liked more (and to his chagrin, it was usually Kisen). What a refreshing change of pace!

"Well then, Just Maddie. Please, use Lath. Kisen is a name reserved for family and those people who are not quite as considerate as you. I'm curious, strawberry: are you always possessed of this consistent happiness? You remind me of a puppy; filled with energy and love and a strong desire to play."

Lath wasn't sure if she would take that as an insult--it was technically just an observation and comparison, but some only heard what they were being compared to and not the positive qualities of that thing. Lath still wasn't sure why, but he imagined he would get to it eventually.

"That...and your hair color's namesake fits you well, too. A strawberry...usually bright and cheery with a sweet flavor. You make friends easily, am I right?"

Lath sat up a little in position, making himself more comfortable as he waited patiently for an answer.

I'm curious, strawberry: are you always possessed of this consistent happiness? You remind me of a puppy; filled with energy and love and a strong desire to play."

Maddie - who was not a native Japanese speaker - was of course initially puzzled by the comparisen. She was happy that Lath, as he preferred to be called, was happy. His being happy made her happy - and what made her happy inevitabbly made her smile and bubble more. The compairison still had her a little stumped. She imagined her mother's moody, small, yippie dog and attempted to see a positive correlation between the dog and herself. Or even imagine a dog inspired by her.... She was still a bit befuddled, probably because most of her friends did not have pets and the only one they had was always with her mother or at the dog parlour.

Breaking out in a smile she figured that wherever Lath was from, being compaired to a dog must be considered something good because she couldn't imagine someone she didn't even know insulting her. So it was settled, he had complimented her and the world was full of rainbows and ice cream.

"That...and your hair color's namesake fits you well, too. A strawberry...usually bright and cheery with a sweet flavor. You make friends easily, am I right?"

Giggling, she nodded enthusiastically. "I would guess so," she said a little slower, "I like people and people tend to like me. So - Lath - Lathspell," she attempted running his full name over her tongue, just to try it out, which brough her to yet more giggles, "Misure Lath," she began again lapsing into her native French for a moment and grapsing her hands behind her back, "have you been at this school long - may I ask? I have not been here a week, and already they are changing my classes!"

Lath shook his head in response to her question. So...she was French in origin? That would explain the puzzled look. She might not be following his language very well. Even so, she was unable to see the compliment...perhaps she had not actually met a puppy? Pity, really. There were few nicer things in the world than a small bundle of fuzz and teeth that just loved to play and be loved in return. That said, they could be hard hard hard to train, and as dogs had personalities like humans, they could be stubborn and bull-headed, too.

"I have not been here long...comparatively speaking, anyway." Despite himself, was struggling not to smile. This girl had an infectious enthusiasm that seemed to permeate the air around her like an aura of bubbly-ness. "I arrived perhaps a few months previous. I think the class-changing thing is consistent for everyone...or maybe they got openings in classes they thought would suit you. Whatever the case, I know that my classes have varied little."

Lath was now forcing his face to remain impassive. Just Maddie's bubbly aura was straining to his calm.

"So...you just moved in, as it were? If I may ask, what is your talent or aspect? All people here have some special trait that makes them suited to this place. Will you tell me yours?"

“Yes!” rocking up on her tip toes and then landing back flat footed she smiled charmingly, displaying a wealth of perfect, tiny little white teeth, “My talents?” she repeated, a little fuzzy about what exactly it was he meant. “ah – yes, yes, yes – well,” she said looking around suddenly for something to play with.

Time spent in front of people displaying her abilities had given her a small flare for theatrics. Spying an old weight bench that seemed rather out of place and forgotten about she giggled and after a single moment of a furrowed brow the bench seemed to buck in place before stately walking to Lath; at this point it bowed to the boy and began prancing around first him and then Maddie before returning to the point from whence it came. “That’s my fun one!” She giggled.

The first time she had been presented to the media as the darling daughter of the government she had politely made cups and a pitcher of water walk, seemingly of their own accord to each of the people seated and then had them fill themselves. It had been quite a riot for those that knew what was going on.

“My other one is for sure useful, but it’s – it’s a bit more difficult to show off; I’m a healer of sorts,” she shrugged her small shoulder and kicked out her heel.

“Now you know about me misure, what about you?”

Lath was astonished: She had just animated a weight bench with such precision that it practically danced! His aunt had some spells for that kind of thing, but still! And with just eye contact! Not bother to hide his surprise, he stood and leaned forward, one hand on his chin in the perfect thoughtful pose.

"Remarkable...! Indeed, this is quite a talent, Miss Maddie. I wonder how it works? Do your eyes have a spell keyed into them? Is it the ability to violate physics? Advanced telekinesis?"

Lath was always very curious about how things worked, and it showed as he mumbled to himself while the bench danced lightly around him. He was a tad disappointed to see the bench return to its neutral position, but then, that had to put some kind of strain on her. His aunt had told him moving a construct made of metal was no joke, even with years of practice. And she did it without a second thought...impressive indeed.

...A healer? Perhaps she knew some sort of healing magic along with this strange animation technique?

"You can heal wounds, too? How, praytell? Oh, but I get ahead of myself. You have shown me one, and I will show you mine."

Lath examined his arms. To his annoyance, there were no recently closed scabs or scratches. So much for the easy way...There were no sharp objects within reach, either. Peering about, he despaired until he noted the wall behind him. Surely, in a school for meta-humans, the wall was meant to withstand tremendous impact? It certainly felt solid...

Lath looked at her to get her attention, and then put his hands on the wall, exhaling sharply. Craning his head back and rushing it forward with a resounding crack (that may have been his skull), he bashed his forehead against the wall. Instantly, the spot was covered in glowing azure fluid that ran very slowly down the wall. Lath himself pulled his now blight-slicked hair from his face, grinning as he revealed his eyes and the copious amounts of blight flowing from a wound almost dead center on his head. Even as he did, it began to congeal into a multifaceted, roughly star shaped shell that covered the rip and made for an interesting visual effect in the light.

"There you have it. Everything my body produces holds a toxin that, given time, may become the single most dangerous substance in the world.....Don't touch it." He said, pointing at the space on the wall. "At least, don't touch it while it's wet. When it's dry, unless you eat it it's harmless."

Maddie had never thought that what she could do was particularly remarkable. Of course she had been performing it since she was very small, so for anyone to react as Lath did was an unexpected treat for the girl who giggled openly at his reaction.

“Remarkable…! Indeed, this is quite a talent, Miss Maddie. I wonder how it works? Do your eyes have a spell keyed into them? Is it the ability to violate physics? Advanced telekinesis?”

Covering her mouth to stiffle her giggles she looked up at him through her eyelashes and shrugged largely, “I just can. No one had ever told me how it works, but I’ve been doing it for a very long time. I’ve been able to work my way up to larger objects; I can only give an object one thing to do at a time.” Gesturing at the bench, “I told it to parade around the room, and that’s what it did.” She attempted to stop the giggling and be a bit serious; Lath did not strike her as a person as perky as herself.

“You can heal wounds, too? How, pray tell? Oh, but I get ahead of myself. You have shown me one, and I will show you mine.”

With no small bit of wonder she watched as Lath inspected himself and then proceeded towards the back wall. Stepping towards him to get a better view she noted the glint in his eye, and curious stepped even closer as Lath seemingly looked for her; she smiled encouragingly - having no clue what he had planned. And then he slammed his head into the wall! Forcefully, the blow shook the walls and gasping Maddie stepped closer, one arm outstretched as he turned to face her.

“There you have it.” The - blood? - that oozed out of the place on his head looked like it hurt, and suddenly Maddie was very concerned for him, “Everything my body produces holds a toxin that, given time, may become the single most dangerous substance in the world…don’t touch it.” Numbly, she listened, completely in disbelief. Oh but he must be in pain! And a person in pain made Maddie’s heart ach and she felt the tightening around her eyes as tears began to well up; blinking past the tears she looked at the wall and then at his face. “At least, don’t touch it while it’s wet. When it’s dry, unless you eat it it’s harmless.”

“Does - does it hurt?” Her voice quivered and first one tear and then another started to slide down her cheeks but before they had crested her cheekbone they hardened into tiny crystals that she instinctively caught in her had as they began to fall.

Lath smiled, shaking his head. He was a bit dizzy, but the pain had already fallen to a dull ache. True, it stung a bit, but this was nothing. One of his cousins practicing Kendo had impaled him once...that was miserable. This was nothing.

"No, I'm fine. My tolerance for pain is actually much higher than a normal person's. It's just a minor headache now. All said, you now have two twins to me, but that will wear off. Watch!"

Even as he spoke, the blight flowing freely from his wound had completely hardened and crystallized into a dull midnight blue shell. Shaped like a misbegotten star, it made a similar silhouette appear on the ground when sunlight hit it, like a reflective surface. Lath grinned. This was one of the perks of blight: it was very pretty when it was hardened, and it could easily be mistaken for a precious gem.

Noting the crystal tears she caught in her hand, Lath surmised that those were either a side effect of her meta-humanity or the source of her stated healing ability. How did it work? He would ask later.

"At any rate...I'm fine. This will heal fairly quickly...but I should leave the shell there, just in case. Or," he said with a smile, "...you could try that healing power of yours, you know? Don't cry about me. I have encountered worse in accidents around my home."

Bottom lip quivering, the picture of child-like-near-tears. She gazed apprehensively at the hardening crust; she just could not believe that it did not hurt! Biting her lip she gave him a more penetrating gaze; he did seem to be okay, he wasn't swaying, he hadn't blacked out - maybe he was okay...

"It works two way," she said slowly, her eyes still on the wound, "The most potent is that a tear," opening her hand to display the two very tiny rough hewn crystal objects, "is to put it in a wound - something about the fluids," she shrugged, "you could also swallow it like a pill - but that takes longer and its' affects are spread through the whole body, not just the wound."

Looking at her palm and then the boy again she thrust her hand out farther, "You may have them if you wish." It wasn't like she would ever run out, all she did was to have to see a sappy movie, or someone in pain and she turned into a faucet pouring out these things.

Lath peered at the two crystal teardrops in her hand, suddenly feeling a sense of apprehension. It could heal a wound, could it? He gingerly picked one up, the fingers holding it tingling with a bizarre sensation. How was it triggered? Lath tapped it against the hardened blight shell on his head, to no effect. She DID say it required fluids...that would require either saliva or more blight. Lath's face contorted slightly as he tore off one of the legs of the star-shell, the blight beneath oozing dangerously out.

Lath stepped back from Maddie (to prevent her touching it) and pressed the tear against the open fluid quickly. He felt a strange lethargy wash over his head, a sort of soothing feeling that encouraged he sleep it off. Closing his eyes in faint bliss, Lath's arms dropped to his sides as his senses dulled from that point outward...

And then the pain came.

A sudden piercing agony erupted from the wound that spread like wildfire through his head, neck, and shoulders, descending with alarming speed. Lath's face widened into one of agonized shock, eyes spread wide. What was this?! Where was the pain coming from?! Was this a side effect of the tear?! Lath threw himself to the ground violently, pounding it with his fists as he sounded a guttural, hissing cry that echoed in the gym like some hellish roar.

Just as suddenly, the pain was dulled again...now a low, rumbling ache. Lath fell to his knees, doubled over in shock. What in the Goddess' name was that...?

A small tinkling noise interrupted him as a six-sided blue star hit the ground and shattered like glass into many small, sharp pieces. Following that, a runny, slick white-yellow fluid dripping onto the ground. In a detached corner of his mind, Lath supposed that was the plasma base of blood...sans the red (blue) blood cells that gave it its color. He was bleeding plasma...not blight. He suddenly felt very dizzy and toppled over on his side, his strength gone and his vision now blurry with the odd fluid and pain.

It hit Lath as he began to black out what had happened, but before he could finish the thought the world faded to gray.

((OOC: Sorry, I've been staring at this blankly most of the day figuring out what poor little Maddie is should do... :P A note about the tears, they're basically concentrated Stem Cells, which aren't white blood cells at all, but we'll flow with it! I went a little technical with this on her!))

Staying where she was, Maddie tilted her head in one direction and watched Lath; he was different - and that was okay with her. He seemed a little reserved, but everyone was different and that was something Maddie herself appreciated about life. So she stood there, plesantly content to chitchat with her new friend until she had to be elsewhere - which really she didn't have anywhere else to be for the day so she was the victim of her whim.

Lath stepped away from her, probably because of his warning about touching the liquid goooy stuff. He knew what he was doing - so she didn't bother to worry. She had seen her tears work on enough people that she didn't really pay him much mind as there was a fascinating piece of lint floating past her face that really needed to be watched in its' ariel flight. And that was probably why she missed the initial reaction Lath had until he was floundering on the floor like a fish out of water.

"Lath!" She yelped - not knowing if this was something else about him that was normal or if it was bad. He wasn't responding. Bent over, the scab - or whatever it was - fell off of his head. This was getting alarming.

Talking herself down mentally from a state of panic, she stepped a little bit closer as the wound started doing funny things... "Lath? Lath - can you hear me? Are you alright?"
He wasn't responding.

He wasn't even looking around now. It appeared that he was completely unconscious. Eyes wide, Maddie was ready to panic - taking a deap breath of air she stepped closer to him, edging around the splinters of scabb and droplets of goo. "L-Lath?"

Glancing around, she decided that she needed to do something, "Okay Lath - just hold on - okay?" She sounded like a small child, but her determination was greater than that. In a few bounds she had several of the yoga mats in hand, her plan was rather simple; wrap him up, use the matts and her will and move him to the hospital. If her healing powers weren't going to work on him, he needed someone else.

((OOC: Its not white blood cells that triggered this effect. When it was described as having healing properties, I assumed it would also act against infections, poisons, etc on the wound. You'll see:))

Lath shivered as the plastic touched his skin. Groggily opening his eyes (the black in them was now a dull grey and the irises were a flat navy), he noticed numerous plastic mats moving around him.

...? Mats don't move by themselves. Someone is here with me in my room...why is my bed so hard? ....What is this unpleasant chill?

Lath braced his hands on the ground and weakly came to his knees, his skin feeling numerous pricks as the blight shards cut into his flesh. It was slippery...why? Lath looked around slowly, taking in his surroundings with deliberate caution. He then noted Maddie, and the events came rushing back. That's right!

She had given him a healing tear...that had hurt him. Why had it hurt him?

Shaking his head slowly, Lath stumbled to his feet, the little pieces crunching under his shoes. He looked around, his eyes half-lidded and sleepy.

"Maddie...? Why was I on the floor? What's all this slippery stuff on my face?" Again, realization came to him. "Oh, right...this is plasma. Blood-base...Ehm...That's right. Your tear...it consumed the blight cells. Ooh, my head hurts..."

Looking slowly at the ground and then at her, he made note of her look of panic and mentally composed himself, pulling off his t-shirt and wiping his face down. He then tied the shirt to his head to help staunch the still trickling liquid that came from his head wound. He forced a smile, saying,

"Ah...whoops. Seems like it reacted badly, huh? My entire being is toxic, you see. Your tear actually began curing me...of myself." Lath chuckled at the irony, wondering if all medicine, magical or mundane, would have the same effect. He had never needed it since the blight first manifested. As he thought, Lath noted that he was cold, for the first time in...years? That tear must have messed him up.

"Whew...I'm...cold, he said, rubbing his arms together. "You mind if we go somewhere warm? I could use a hot cocoa right now."

Lath suspected in his mind that he could use ANYTHING right now, his blood must be so thin. Indeed, the blight must have been returning or he wouldn't be standing.

"No worries...let me just clean this up and I'll get going." Lath wearily trudged to his bag and forced himself to look as though he had energy as he pulled a clean shirt from his bag. Wiping the floor down as best he could, Lath also took care to pull the hardened blight spatter from the wall, breaking it into manageable pieces.

Turning about with a smile on his face, Lath said, "See? Right as rain."

Maddie was close to complete sobs - which would only make more of a mess of shards and pieces on the floor - but she was very upset. She couldn’t even see very much or very well, so as Lath began moving, she did not notice him at first. Maddie’s concentration was on doing what it would take to get the job done!

"Maddie...? Why was I on the floor? What's all this slippery stuff on my face? Oh, right...this is plasma. Blood-base...Ehm...That's right. Your tear...it consumed the blight cells. Ooh, my head hurts..."

Yelping as he began moving and speaking, the mats fell - landing and causing some of the shards to go skittering across the floor, catching light and refracting it in an oddly attractive way. For a moment she didn’t move, she simply stared at him as he began composing himself and pulling off his shirt, “Lath?” she muttered, wide eyed and rather pathetic looking. There were still sweat marks along her tank top, and her pants had dust from the bin.

"Ah...whoops. Seems like it reacted badly, huh? My entire being is toxic, you see. Your tear actually began curing me...of myself." He chuckled, but Maddie was not convinced. "Whew...I'm...cold, he said, rubbing his arms together. "You mind if we go somewhere warm? I could use a hot cocoa right now."

Numbly, Maddie nodded, her large eyes gazed at him like any moment he would fall over and die. “O-of course,” she finally choked out.

"No worries...let me just clean this up and I'll get going." As he began to clean Maddie suddenly sprang back into action, running over and grabbing her own bag and fishing out a towel she didn’t wait for permission or a request, she began doing her part in cleaning it up, all the while remaining very quiet. She had never had anything like this happen to her before; before it had always been better…

"See? Right as rain."

With the mess cleaned up Maddie hesitantly looked back at Lath; he had to hate her. She’d done that to him, and he had every right to not speak to her ever again. Nodding and gripping her bag to her chest, the towel held as an after-thought she took a few shuffling steps towards the door, waiting for Lath - her eyes never leaving him. She owed it to him to make sure he was alright and if she couldn’t help him, she would find someone who would.

Lath noted her look of concerned and tried his best to put a cheerful smile on. She looked pathetic (not in a derisive sense, but in a sad sense). What's more, she kept fixing him with alternating worried and apprehensive glances. He was inwardly amused and touched by her concern, but at the same time was also annoyed. She acted as though he was going to bite her...did she think he was that superficial?

Picking up his bag with a very quiet "oomph" noise, Lath slung it over his shoulder and rechecked the floor and wall to be sure he got everything. Apparently pleased, he turned and once more was irritated by the sight of Maddie watching him as though he would vanish. He wasn't a revenant....yet. Walking purposefully for the door (as much as an anemic can be expected), he stood straight and looked at Maddie with a sorrowful expression.

"Maddie...relax. I do not blame you. This was an accident, yes? It happens to the best of us. In fact, I believe you just cleared something up for me that's been troubling me for some time. I suspected that conventional medicines and healing magics would have a negative effect on me, and lo, I was correct."

Lath's face changed once more to a smile (a genuine one), as he finished,

"True people are not that shallow, Maddie. You will see."

Lath pushed the door open gingerly, his hands now aching from the splinters that were only now beginning to dissolve. Lath looked outside, making note of the bitter breeze and chill that pervaded the late winter-early spring air. The walk to the dorms would be...unpleasant. Of all the times to be anemic.

Resigning himself, Lath made to step forward but felt a sudden constriction in his chest, followed by a wet, hacking cough that he caught with his hand. To his surprise, something warm and wet came from his mouth. Believing it to be something foul, Lath prepared an "eeeww" face only to see that his hand was filmed by glowing, glorious blue blight. Lath grinned and showed it to Maddie, saying,

"Look, Maddie! I'm coughing up blight! That means its coming back! I seem to have a damaged ribcage, but I'm healing again! Good times..." Lath stumbled a bit as the dizziness returned. He'd have to take it easy, if only for today. Shaking his head slowly, Lath put his hand on the door frame steady himself and grinned. This was a good day, all said.

((OOc: From my phone after being up for three straight days crewing a bicycle race, not imaginitive but I suceeded!))

"Maddie...relax. I do not blame you. This was an accident, yes? It happens to the best of us. In fact, I believe you just cleared something up for me that's been troubling me for some time. I suspected that conventional medicines and healing magics would have a negative effect on me, and lo, I was correct."

Blinking a little, Maddie wondered if his other gift was mind reading…She nodded, and took a deep breath. Accidents happened afterall, he was right. She managed a weak smile in response to his and shouldered her own bag.

"True people are not that shallow, Maddie. You will see."

Stepping up behind Lath Maddie was of course worried as huge, racking coughs almost made the boy double over alarmingly. Resisting the urge to squeel and panic, she reached out a hand to brush his arm.

"Look, Maddie! I'm coughing up blight! That means its coming back! I seem to have a damaged ribcage, but I'm healing again! Good times..."

Coughing up blight was good?

Well, if he said so…

“Well, as long as we don’t repeat that then we should be good - right?” Stepping forward she pushed the other door open, and waited for his lead out of the gym. She was still concerned fo rhim, but if he said he was alright - she believed him.
