Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

Hands on her hips, Raiya frowned at the painting she'd just hung. It was one she'd done herself, one that belonged to the slowly growing number of paintings she'd actually done on canvas, a forest scene with a small herd of deer drinking at a stream. She wanted this one to be in just the right spot. After all, she'd be sleeping in this room and she didn't want disturbed sleep. Taking anoher step back, she tilted her head one way then the other, then smiled and nodded. Yep, it was just right. On to the next one.

Walking out into the wallway, she lifted another painting and considering it for a moment. It was a pair of wolves sitting on a bluff, with the moon behind them. She hadn't painted this one, but she liked it. It reminded her of her friend Shaleen. Shifting her grip, she tapped her chin as she thought. When the perfect spot popped into her head, she smiled and headed down stairs.

As she moved through the house, she couldn't help but smile. Today was the day she and Rhama moved in. He'd be here soon and she wanted all the art work she'd chosen up, so that everything was finished. She was glad they'd decided to wait until the house was completely furnished before moving in. Having empty rooms just wouldn't have been right.

Heading to the front of the house, she stepped into the family room. She paused for a moment, just to take the room in. She still remembered what it'd looked like, the day her mum had dragged her here to check it out. Her mother had gotten the house buying bug from her husband, and just couldn't seem to stop herself. This house was supposed to just be an investment property, to be made over and flipped for a tidy profit. And boy, had it needed to be made over. It was amazing the changes that had been made.

Shaking her head, Raiya headed across the room and hung the painting. She was just glad her mum had given her and Rhama the house. It made things a whole lot easier, especially seeing as their twins were due in the next month. They didn't exactly have time to go house hunting. And living in Domino Town would mean people were less likely to stare when they saw Rhama's wings or the crowd of animals that always followed her.

Straightening the painting, she glanced at her watch. She should have just enough time to get the rest up before Rhama arrived. Grinning to herself, she headed back upstairs.

Rhama had been grateful but a little wary of the house Raiya's mother had given them. It had needed a lot of fixing and a lot of TLC to make it home but he had worked right alongside of the workers and made the run down house a home for his mate and children. He grinned as he thought of the children soon to be born. The doctor said one boy and one girl. Rhama's father was still stalking the woods staying near to his son at this most important time.

He had gotten a part time job after school to help provide for his family. He worked at a construction job for half the day learning carpentry and masonry skills. He was looking into schools for engineering and architechture for after graduation.

Rhama walked slowly homeward watching the many people commuting home. He spotted a friend. Shaleen grinned at him and waved as she trotted across the street. One reason he did like the house was they lived across the street from his wife's very understanding and very sweet boss, who lived with her follow werewolves.

They chatted as they walked along and Rhama smiled when the house came into veiw.

Humming under her breath, Raiya carried two more pictures downstairs. Stepping over the kitten, who was really more a young cat now, that had started playing with a feather at the base of the stairs, she headed for the kitchen. The kitchen was the room she'd put the most effort in. Rhama hadn't been happy when she'd told him that she would be involved in doing it up, up she'd put her foot down. In her family, the kitchen was where the imortant family things happened and was the figurative centre of the home. She wasn't going to hand the job over. And she was proud of the way it had turned out. The warm honey colour of the walls made everything feel cozy, and set off the counter tops very nicely.

Stretching up, she hung one of the pictures, then hung the other. Wincing as one of the twins started tapdancing on her ribs, she made a circling motion against her belly and murmurred in Gaelic. That usually settled them down, but today it wasn't working. They'd been moving around all day, and had kept her up most of the night. She guessed she couldn't blame them. It must be getting cramped in there, and people in her family were active. The twins were probably starting to get impatient.

Feeling her stomach grumble, she headed over to raid the fridge. It had been one of the first apliances installed. Food had become very important to her. That she blamed on Rhama's family. It seemed that even quarter dragon babies needed a lot of food.

Rhama opened the door and inhaled the scent of his mate which seemed to linger everywhere around the house. He grinned as heard her moving around in the kitchen. He didn't like her working so hard so late in her pregnancy but she had insisted that she make that part of her home hers and no one else's. He understood and she did a amazing job. He glanced at the wall in the living room and saw the painting. He chuckled.

"Raiya, I'm home." he said advancing into the kitchen to find his mate in the fridge. He had been right in saying his mate would need more food as the babies got bigger. He was still debating on a name for his daughter. He knew Raiya's wish to have their son named after her father and he agreed so the naming of his daughter was up to him.

Raiya sensed Rhama a few minutes before he opened the front door. Smiling to herself, she began taking the makings of a sandwich out. Her smile widened when his voice called out. He knew she would sense him coming before he reached the house but he insisted on letting her know anyway. It was sweet.

Taking out a plate that that had a block of cheese on it, she smiled at Rhama. "Hi. Just in time. I'm making my famous ham, cheese and salad sandwiches." Getting down to business, she made two packed sandwiches in record time. They were something she'd invented when she'd learned how quickly her stomach could go from full to empty at times.

Giving Taipar, and the two older cats some ham and cheese of their own, she nudged Rhama's plate toward him and tucked into hers. "So, how was your day? Oh, I've almost finished putting the paintings up. Just got four to go. And I finished the mural in the nursery. You can see it now." Because she hadn't wanted him to see it until she'd finished, she'd band him from the nursery for the last week. The effect just wouldn't have been the same if he'd seen the mural develop. She hadn't even told him what she'd planed on painting. It was a surprise.

He smiled, Rhama loved her sandwiches. Kissing her in the kitchen felt so right. "I love the painting in the leaving room. Reminds of our wolf friend. Speaking of her she walked with me most of the way. She says the shop isn't the same without you." he said holding her gently as he tore into the sandwich.

"Seriously? I can go in there now?" he asked as he headed for the stairs wanting to see where his children would end up sleeping. He headed up the stairs to see Raiya's project exciment building in his stomach. He slowly opened the door to the nursery.

Raiya made a face at him. "Don't remind me. I know pregnant women are supposed to take the last month before the birth off work, but it isn't as easy as it sounds. I like being busy and that's a lot harder when I don't have a job to go to. Well, at least I'm getting plenty of time to painting. I've almost finished the two that Mr Takigoua commissioned me to do."

She followed Rhama upstairs. Hurring up behind him as he started opening the door, she put her hands over his eyes. "This is a surprise. We need to do this right." Keeping her hands firmly in place, she used her foot to nudge the door all the way open, then nudged him forward. When they came to the middle of the room, she stopped. Going up on her tip-toes she whispered in his ear. "Surprise." Dropping her hands, she stepped back.

Originally, she'd planned only to do one wall, but she'd got carried away. All four walls, and the ceiling, each held a different scene. The ceiling had been transformed into the sky, like the one in her room at her family's house. One half was the day, with birds, winged horses and other mythical flying creatures. The other half was the night, with night fliers swooping across it. The divide between the two was a huge rainbow dragon, its wings made of clouds and starlight. The wall with the door in it was an underwater scene, filled with every aquatic animal imaginable, including a pair of merfolk swimming with dolphins. Another wall had a forrest scene, an extention of her painting of the deer, with wolves and other forest dwellers. The wall oposite was jungle, and the forth wall, with its large windows, was grassland. Each wall, even the underwater one, and a dragon hidden somewhere in it.

Raiya turned to her mate. "So, what do you think? I kind of got carried away. Once I got started, ideas kept popping into my head, so I kept expanding until I'd done the whole room."

Rhama laughed when she covered his eyes. Raiya nudged him into the center of the room and whispered softly in his ear."Surprise." She removed her hands and the young half dragon was utterly amazed at the sheer size of the painting. The sky was incredible. He walked around to every wall finding dragons in every one and the one in the jungle was colored like him and his father.

He turned to his mate. "Do you know...how truly amazing you are my love." he said softly cupping her cheek. His kissed her deeply winding his hands through her hair. He pulled back and gazed into her beautiful golden eyes.

Privately, Raiya had to admit she'd been a bit nervous as to what Rhama would think of her mural. Seeing that he liked it was better than have a crowd of people admiring her work. In the end, his opinion was the one that matter to her.

Kissing him back, she wrapped her arms arund him and leaned into him. "I don't care about being amazing. Well, not really. I'm glad you like, cause once the twins are born, you're going to be spending just as much time in here as I am."

Feeling a muscle in her back twinge, she winced. "You know, I have to admit being pregnant for another month doesn't sound as fun as it did a while ago. My back's been twinging on and off since yesterday, and the twins keep tapdancing on my ribs. Well, one of them does, anyway. When I find out which one it is, I'm going to enroll them in dance classes. Or football. I'm not sure which." Unwinding one arm from around him, she rubbed the small of her back.

Rhama frowned as Raiya rubbed her back, the twins were due in a month and he worried she was pushing her self to hard. He felt what most father's feel about their mates that they are fragile. Most female dragons are incredibly vulnerable at this stage of the pregnancy.

"Raiya sweet heart you should lay down for a while okay?" he said softly as he held her in his arms loving that she was his for a time. He felt bad that she was the one suffering right now and at least she hadn't pummeled in a while...he'd gotten better at ducking.

Raiya frowned when he said she should lie down. "No, I'm fine. It's just a twinge. I've had worse from my training bouts. It's not like it's anything serious." Reaching up, she kissed him then wiggled free of his arms. "I've got painting to hang. Oh, and it's your turn to cook dinner." Flashing him a grin, she headed out of into the hall. Shifting the pictures around so they'd stack nicely, she hefted them and headed downstairs.

Humming to herself again, moved around the first floor putting the pictures in what she considered the perfect spot. As she was hanging the last one, she felt another muscle twinge, this time in her stomach. Frowning, she rubbed it. Maybe she had been over doing it. Though she wouldn't admit it, the twinges in her back, and now her stomach, were beinging to give her pause. Had she pulled a muscle somehow? But if she had, the twinges wouldn't be off and on, and would stay in just one place. Well, most pregnant women got saw backs during their third trimester. It probably was her body just giving her a message to slow down a bit. After all, she was carrying quiet a lot of extra weight around.

Sighing, she head for the kitchen. Poring herself a glass of milk, her mum asked every few days how much she drank, she opened the back door and stepped outside. She'd take a break, but out in the fresh air. Laying down would have been too boring.

Settling in one of the deck chairs with Taipar curled up beside her, she watched the breeze move through the trees. Within a few minutes she was asleep, her restless night catching up with her.

She was so strong and independent and he loved her for it. Rhama decided to go and get cleaned up after working on a hard site all afternoon. The school was working with him to let him work in the afternoons and take all his classes in the morning.

After his shower he followed his mate's scent to the back porch and found asleep in the lounge chair. He'd made certain that it was big enough for two. He snuggled with her and held her close without waking her.

"My entire life is in my arms." he murmured in Gaelic to his family.

Raiya stirred slightly as Rhama settled down beside her. Shifting, she curled into him and sighed as she drifted back into dreams.

The grassland spread out to the horizon in every direction. A single tree stood, shadowing a flat rock. As she stood on the rock, staring up at the tree, she somehow knew that it marked the centre of the grassland. She considered it, running her gaze over the wide branches. "This is a dream, isn't it?" Turning, she met her father's solemn gaze. He nodded, but didn't speak. Past him, she noticed two shadows standing some distance. Frowning, she tried to look at them, but for some reason she couldn't focus on them.

Her father's hand settled on her shoulder. "You should wake up now, love. It's time."

She frowned. "What do you mean. Dad, I need to talk to you." A shadow crossed the sun and then everything disolved.

Blinking, Raiya narrowed her eyes against a ray of sunlight that fell across her face. Sitting up, she shook her head. What a strange dream. What had he mean by 'it's time'? Time for what?

As if answering her, sharp pain rippled through her stomach. Yelping, she doubled over and wrapped her arms around her belly. Fear filled her. The babies! Was something wrong? Oh god, no.

Without thinking, her panicked mind screamed out a distress call. She'd sent this call out once before, when her father had been killed. Every animal, or creature with a strong connection to animals, would be unable to stop themselves from coming to her, to protect her from any threat. Rhama, and the animals already gathered in and around the house, would be slapped with the full force of the call. There was a chance that it might even knock them senseless.

He reeled with the force of her pain and fear. Rhama felt the call and her emotions so clearly and sharply that he stopped breathing for a moment. He looked down at her in true and total terror. His Raiya, was hurting. He lept up and looked down at her and gaped at the pool of luquid pooling under her hips and seeping into the cushion.

"Love I think your water broke." he said dumbstruck.

***

Shaleen and Smudge were walking home from school, content with a good day of learning. Her voice hummed gently as she walked along until...

...A wave of panic and pain crashed through her hollowing her out to the point only one thought remained, she had to get to Raiya. She knew the address, her employee was having a house warming party later this week. She tore off at an inhuman speed.

"Love I think your water broke."

She stopped panting staring up at Rhama, and her faithful but exhausted wolf companion lay down though he wagged his thick tail when he saw Taipar and Eoin nearby.

After the flash of panic, the sheer power of her trained mind began to kick in. The blind, mind numbing panic was pushed to a distant place, freeing the rest ofher mind to think again. Which was a good and a bad thing. She could do what she had to do, but she also came face to face with the stark truth. That the twins were coming, now.

"Love I think your water broke."

Hissing out a breath, she gave him a baleful look. "No, really? I had no idea." She whimpered softly when another pain came. Breathing carefully, she concentrated on the animals that had flocked to her to take her mind off of the pain. As quickly as she could, she sent them away. She was in no danger, so she wouldn't need them to defend them. Even so, some refused. They sensed something was wrong and wanted to help.

When Shaleen suddenly appeared, Raiya felt a bit better. Now she and Rhama wouldn't be in this by themselves. Which was good, cause being a nurse's daughter, she could recognise the signs. It was going to be very doubtful that she'd make it to a hospital.

Counting in the back of her mind to keep track of the contractions, she glanced up at Shaleen. "Did Smudge tell you I was in trouble?" She didn't twig that Shaleen had actually felt her call. She'd never gotten through to werewolves before.

The lycan cocked her head. "No Smudge didn'a tell me a thin'." she said her accent thick with confusion. She switched languages to Gaelic and talked in a quicker pace. "I felt a wave of panic and pain and all I knew is that I HAD to be near you." Rhama caught and stared at Raiya. "Tha rest of tha pack is in school to far from the call." Shaleen stated.

Rhama felt the world become much more real. His children were about to be born. Raphael landed in full dragon form in the backyard. Shaleen snarled her eyes flashing teal wolf eyes. Rhama soothed her in Gaelic and spoke to his father in Spanish. Rhama sighed as his father shifted into a more human form and his best friend relaxed.

"So are we going to get my daughter-in-law to a hospital?" he asked as he hugged Rhama and greeted Raiya very cautiously. He had seen her temper flare at his sone and his son patiently take the abuse she handed him.

The information that her call had reached Shaleen, not just Smudge, shocked Raiya enough that she bearly felt the next contraction. She also switched to Gaelic, easy for her because she'd started speaking it before English. "You actually felt my call? That's...wow." She shook her head. "I'll think about this when I'm not in labour."

When Raphael landed in dragon form, she had too much on her mind to be surprised. She did spare a thought to wonder what he had been doing close enough to feel her call, but then she had other things to think about. However, she did have to smile at how cautiously her mate's father greeted her. It seemed that her temper, which she'd had a harder time controlling as her pregnancy progressed, had become known to him.

"So are we going to get my daughter-in-law to a hospital?"

Before Rhama or Shaleen could answer, Raiya shook her head. "No, you're going to get me upstairs. I doubt very much I'm going to make it to a hospital. Unless we fly, and no offence, but there is no way in hell I am going up in the air right now." Her voice had a slight snarl in it. To clear it, she took a deep breath. "If you want to be helpful, go get my mum. She told me she's going to be looking at an apartment building a few blocks away from here. Should be easy to find. It's painted a very ugly dirt brown. She's the closest medical person I know of." That done, she began going over the list that had been in the back of her mind for the last month. Hopefully Raphael would find her mother. If not, she'd just have to hope everything went okay.

Rhama scooped his mate up in his arms and he and Shaleen went into the house. The lycan looked over her scarred shoulder at the man Rhama called father and smiled. They looked just alike.

Raphael took off and found the house Raiya spoke of quickly. He found a woman and a man in the backyard with two small children. The woman looked at him. "Rhama?" she asked voice uncertain and the man looked disdainful but he ignored the human.

"No, my name is Raphael, I'm Rhama's father. Raiya is going into labor and she doesn't think the babies will be patient enough for her to get to a hospital. She sent me to get you." he explained quickly in heavily accented English.

Hands on her hips, Leila considered the apartment block. "Well, I think it has potencial." Andrew gave her a doubtful look, but before he could say anything, a man who looked very much like Rhama landed near them. Leila frowned. "Rhama?"

"No, my name is Raphael, I'm Rhama's father. Raiya is going into labor and she doesn't think the babies will be patient enough for her to get to a hospital. She sent me to get you."

Leila felt a clutch of fear for her young daughter, a natural reaction for any mother. Then she went into her nurse mode. She turned to her husband. "Take the children home. I'll call you when there's news." She turned to Raphael. "Let's go. If Raiya really won't make it to the hospital, then every minute counts. You'd best fly as fast as possible."

Holding tight to Rhama, Raiya closed her eyes for a minute. In his arms, she felt like everything would be okay, that she'd be able to do this. She sighed. Well, weither she felt like she could or not, she was going to have to. It wasn't like she could talk the twinsout of being born today. Ready or not, here they came.

Raphael gathered Raiya's mother into his arms and launched himself into the air. He glided quickly over Tokyo landed once more in his son's backyard. He led the way into the house. He cocked his head and heard rustling upstairs.

Rhama lay Raiya on the bed a old blanket under that Shaleen laid. The two teenagers didn't know what to do next looking at each other over Raiya. Rhama felt every spike of pain and fear, he was going through labor with her.

"Hold on your mom will be here soon." he said smoothing her hair. As if on cue Raphael came in with Leila. "Thank goodness. What do you need us to do?" Rhama asked holding his mate's hand. Dragon births, especially mixed children were hard on the mother and the baby. Rhama was terrified he'd loose them all.

Had her mind not been focused on her daughter, Leila would have reveled in the feeling of flying. Even with her worry and focus, she still enjoyed it, taking a few moments to have that enjoyment and using it to clear her mind and settle her for the task ahead. When they landed, Leila dashed upstairs hot on Raphael's heels.

Raiya knew that Rhama and Shaleen were both scared, but she couldn't muster herself to really care. She was too busy, and besides, she thought that she had more reason to be scared than them. After all, she was the one currently in labour. She just hoped to God that Raphael hurried up with getting her mum. She didn't think she could handle giving birth and couching Rhama and Shaleen through what they had to do.

God seemed to be listening, because Leila and Raphael burst in a few moments later. Raiya felt a wave of relief. One less thing she had to worry about.

Pushing up her sleeves, Leila hurried to the bedside. "Looks like those little ones are just too impatient." She took Raiya's hand, to give comfort but also to check her pulse. "How far apart are the contractions?"

"Two minutes. I don't understand why this is happening so fast. I didn't have any contractions before I took my nap."

Leila frowned slightly. "Have you been having cramps in your back and stomach?"

Raiya nodded. "Since yesterday morning. They kept me up half to night."

Leila patted her hand. "Then, my sweet one, this isn't fast. You've probably been in labour for the last twenty-four hours or so." She turned to Shaleen and Raphael. "Young lady, could you please fetch some towel. Raphael, go boil water." The boiling water was an age old trick for getting menfolk out from under foot, as well as having a practical use. "Rhama, you stay here. There''l be something for you to do soon enough."

Raphael stared at the human woman bossing him about. He was not used to taking orders and never from a human woman. He grumbled under his breath as he walked down to the kitchen to get the hot water ready.

Shaleen fetched the towels quickly and effienctly. SHe tucked herself up out from under foot and watched as her dedicated employee worked hard to bring to children into the world. She rubbed her own belly thinking of the child she woould be delivering in 9 monthes.

Rhama held her hand stroking her hair and murmuring encouragement in Gaelic into her ear. He never in a million years thought that he would be here in a home watching his children being born, with his own father here and NOT trying to abuse him. Raiya had righted so many things in his life and as she sat there fighting to have his children he never loved anyone more.

Seeing the big man, Bryn, who had stopped being a kitten a long time go, jumped nimbly up onto the counter. She stared unblinking at the stranger, the tip of her tail twitching. Crouching down, she settled down to keep watch. Strange animals, she didn't mind. But strange people, especially ones that didn't smell human, were another matter. She'd keep a close eye on this stranger until her mistress came to tell her if he was okay or not.

Gripping Rhama's hand, Raiya panted through another contraction. Closing her eyes, she tried to think of something else. After all, thinking of something else usually worked. But, unfortunately, it wasn't really working this time. So she tried something else. She started squishing Rham's hand. If nothing else, she'd make sure that he was also uncomfortable.

Time seemed to drag, then suddenly her mother was placing a small bundle in her arms, and another in Rhama's. Raiya stared down at the small life in her arms, unable to believe it had come from her. "Happy birthday, Michael."

The girl he loved had one hell of a grip. He felt every spike of pain that rushed through her and he realized that he was a man that ACTUALLY knew what laber felt like. He marveled at the idea.

Shaleen watched with wolf eyes as the babies finally freed themselves. She was so happy as the couple held her twins. She hugged her midsection.

Rhama stared at the scaled little dragonling squirming in his arms. Her eyes were Raiya's golden eyes. Her hair was a lovely soft pale that matched her scales and her skin was Irish pale.

"My Evita Rose." he murmured cradling her gently. He sat on the bed and realized that he never felt happier.

Raphael looked at his son and grandchildren and the girl carried traits of his line. "Congrats both of you."

Her heart overflowing with love, Raiya stared down at the twins. Had they really come from her? She cradled her son close and smiled when Rhama gave their daughter her name. "Evita Rose. That suits her."

She ran her finger over her son's thick cap of hair, the same black as her own, but with red streaks in it. He didn't have scales, but his eyes were the same silver as his father's, and his skin was the same colour as Rhama's. So, he was the meta of the pair. That seemed right to her. As if a part of her own father had come through her to her son.

Snugling against Rhama, she eached over to touch Evita's hair. "Pink. Well, she won't have to dye it when she goes through those rebelious teenage years." It gave her a thrill to see eyes the same colour of her own staring out of her daughter's face.

Raiya turned her Raphael and her mother and smile. "Would you two like to meet your grandchildren?"

Nodding, Leila stepped forward and took her grandson. Her eyes were suspiciously bright. "So, Michael is it?"

Raiya nodded. "Michael Drake. I wanted him to have something of dad's. The Drake is for obvious reasons."

Leila smiled. "I think your father would be honoured to have his grandson named after him. And if looks are anything to go by, he'll be like him, because he looks like you. You are, after all, your father's daughter."

Rhama handed Evita to her grandfather who cradled against him.

"You are the last of my children to be born and I thought I could never love you. But you my son are the most amazing man I have met in a long time. I'm sorry it took me so long to see you clearly. And know you have a family of your own." Raphael said tears pouring down his dark face. Rhama smiled. "I'm just glad you see me at all."

Evita squirmed and fussed looking for a different voice. Rhama lifted and placed her in Raiya arms. "Meet your daughter."

Raiya smiled as she watched the two grandparents holding the twins. Two very different people, placed on similar ground by two new lives. It showed just what family could do.

Raphael's words to Rhama filled Raiya's already full heart to overflowing. It seemed that here, in this room, all changes that each person had gone through were showing themselves. Raphael now saw his son for who he was, Leila no longer flinched at the sound of her dead husband's name. And Raiya knew that the changes she'd gone through since meeting Rhama were unimaginable. She'd stopped being the angry, hurting girl who ignored the world round her. She wasn't the person she would have been if her father had died, but she didn't want to be. She liked who he was, and where se was.

Hearing Evita fussing, Raiya smiled to herself. No more time for reminiscing. Holding out her arms, she took her daughter. "Hello there, Evy." She slid a sidelong look at her mate. "I'm British. Evita just doesn't suit my vocabulary."

Leila laughed. "What did I say? Your father's daughter." She handed Michael to Rhama. Unlike his twin, he was now fast asleep, an early demonstration of the differences in their personalities. "How about we leave the happy couple alone to get to know their children? I'll make us some coffee." She headed out, leaving Raphael and Shaleen to follow her.

The Dragon nodded. "Actually I have to go now Senora. I've been far from my home for too long. I must return, I came to see my grandchildren born and named and welcome them to the Cortez clan. I have done that and made peace with my son. Goodbye, I will try to visit again."

Shaleen turned to follow him out when Rhama stopped her. "You're my best friend and helped me tame my inner beast when I got home and I was afraid of hurting those I loved. I want you to be my children's godmother."

The wolf gaped slowly. "I will if you will be godparents to my child." she replied.

Rhama stared for a moment..."You mean your pregnant? How?" he asked softly.

She nodded beaming. "I think the both of you are well aquainted with how you make babies. Rog and I got carried away out in the woods. I have to get back to the den. Congrats and thank you for the honor."

Murmuring to Evy to sooth her, Raiya glanced up when Raphael said he was leaving. She opened her mouth to protest, then shut it. He must have a good reason for leaving so soon. And as much as she hated to admit it, things were somewhat less tense when he wasn't around. Her step father made enough fuss concerning Rhama as it was and he was bound to dislike the fact that there was yet another person who didn't look normal in his imediate family. With Raphael out of the picture, Andrew might actually settle down and accept little Evy, if not Rhama as well.

Shifting Evy slightly, she blinked when Shaleen announced she was pregnant. Had she not just given birth and had a fussy newborne in her arms, she would have leapt up and hugged her friend. As it was, all she could do was grin. "You're pregnant! That's fantastic! Of course we'll be your baby's godparents." She smiled. "It'll make us even more of a family. The twins and your baby will be cousins. And you'll be Aunty Shaleen." Se blinked. "I just realised how many aunts and uncles our babies have. Well, at least they'll gets lots of presents on birthdays and at christmas."

Shaleen grinned and took off leaving Rhama alone with his love.

"You know we need to cal your grandmother though she probably knew these two were coming days before we did. They are perfect, and we made them...How the hell did we get so lucky?" he asked holding his son, HIS son in his arms. He looked so like his mother and her father and Evy was his little girl.

He stretched on the bed lying next to Raiya and marveling at the children they had made. He never thought of having children and now he couldn't imagine life without them.

Raiya chuckled as she unbuttoned her blouse so Evy could suckle. "I wouldn't be surprised. She always seems to know everything. Sometimes I wonder if she doesn't have some kind of Sight that lets her see into the future. There's actually a legend in the Finlay family that the first meta born into our family was a psychic woman who could see the future Not so hard to believe, when you think of all the different powers we have."

She smiled at Rhama when he stretched out beside her. "You know, my Bedre, that's mum's dad, says that there's no such thing as luck. Just fate that's been waiting to happen. Bedste says he just says that because he has very bad luck."

Remembering something, she frowned. "Shaleen's going to be the twins' godmother. How does that work?" Having only ever set foot in a church since her father's death, and then only on his birthday, she had no idea how such things worked.

"I didn't mean it in the religious sense I meant that if anything ever happened to us that Shaleen and her pack would take care of them. I don't ever want that to happen but we're metas and normal people don't like us. I just want Mike and Evy taken care of." he replied.

Michael open his silver eyes and yanked on a peice of Rhama's long red hair. The man laughed and released the hair from the child's grip. He murmured softly in Gaelic to the infant and he laughed.

Rhama was floor by the laugh, he'd never heard a child's unapologetic laughter and hear was his son giggling and smiling up at him.

Raiya smiled. "That's a relief. I wasn't exactly sure. The only time I have anything to do with churches is when I go to one on Dad's birthday to light a candle. It's quieter there." She thought for a moment. "Instead of calling Shaleen the twins' godmother, why not call her their Gwarcheidwad? That's what Mum and Dad called my aunt Ceana, who they'd chosen to look after us if something happened to them. It means guardian. It would follow the family tradition."

She stared when Michael laughed. She'd never heard anything so wonderful. Yet, were newborns even able to laugh? Wait, maybe dragon babies could. Or maybe Michael was just a special baby. It wouldn't be surprising considering everything.

She leaned closer. "He's smiling! But ... babies don't usually smile until they're a few weeks old. I guess he's a special baby. Unless dragon babies normally do things earlier than human babies."

"Dragons grow five times the normal rate and half breeds twice the normal rate. But seeing how they are only a quarter dragon I don't know how fast they will grow and devolop. It'll be an adventure." he said rocking Michael as the baby started to cry for his food.

"Change over...switch." he said jostling the little boy as he cried out to be fed in place of his sister.

Raiya blinked. "Wow. Well, when other mothers are bragging how advanced their baby is, I can trump them all."

As Michael started crying, Raiya switched the two babies over. Settling him, she nodded to the towels that hadn't been used. "You'd better get one of those for your shoulder." She gave him a mischievous smile. "You're about to learn the great fun that comes with burping a baby." Raiya knew all about it. She'd been old enough when Helsa had been born to participate in caring for her. She'd never forget the first time she'd tried burping her baby sister. That had been the moment she'd learned that having a baby to care for wasn't all fun and games.

Down in the kitchen, Leila smiled over at Shaleen. "How do you take your coffee?"
