Sayomi sighed heavily as she sorted through the thick stack of letters that had come in the mail. It seemed as though her cousins never got tired of sending her messages of any sort, and since the overwhelming majority of them did not have cell phones or even an active Internet connection nearby, all they had to work with was standard-issue overland mail. This wouldn't normally be a problem: Sayomi liked getting things in the mail and was flattered that anyone in the family would send one to her. However, when the messages were (usually) brief and badly written (penmanship or actual writing, which was probably due to the fact that mercifully few of the little cousins had learned their alphabet properly), she simply could not find time to read them all and reply in kind, what with classes and helping Lath NOT get in trouble for his inability to show effort.

Heaving one more heavy sigh, Sayomi turned back to her door when she noted a (rather large) box that had seemed to appear out of nowhere. What's more, upon inspection it proved to be addressed to her and Lath from the main family's home. Her room was first, so the mail-caller must have dumped it here...Shrugging, she typed out a fast text message to Lath, smiling to herself. Lath hated texts, but he would answer any of hers because he knew she wouldn't call him frivolously. Pressing Send, she leaned down and hefted the package, surprised by its weight and apparent lack of padding for whatever was inside.

Setting it roughly on her bed, Sayomi inspected the box as a whole. It was beat up, and seemed to have been carelessly or sloppily assembled. Indeed, the trip to the school from the house had not been kind to it. Internally, she debated opening it herself, but decided that it would be better to wait for Lath. After all, he would do the same for her, and---

The box suddenly jerked sideways of its own accord, warped and deformed by something within pushing its way out. Sayomi jumped to her feet in alarm and felt a tinge of fear course through her. What had the family sent her that was capable of moving? Snatching a picture frame from her desk, squeezing it in her anxiety and crushing the glass panel (to her chagrin, this turned out to be a picture of Lath and herself during Christmas break).

The taped top end of the box made a ripping, tearing sound as it gave way for whatever was inside. Sayomi readied her improvised weapon to bludgeon the life out of the subject, and then dropped it in even greater suprise.

Out of the box tumbled two small, child-sized humanoids, each clothed in a hoodie, sneakers, pants for one, a small skirt for the other. Dazed, the two looked up at Sayomi and grinned widely in synchronization, saying in a sing-song voice,

"Hiya, Sayomi Onee-san!"
