( first come first serve, first person to post is now Momoko's roommate. Just one thing- you have to pretend that they've been roommates since the beginning, and the only thing you know about her her is that she's usually quiet and tired, and the activities that you usually see her doing include mostly cleaning, cooking, drawing, and writing in a large jounal book. With that said, begin) Momoko opened the door to her dorm and made a beeline for her bed. She took off her sandles and tabi, which was a part of her modern/traditon type wardrobe. She was tired after another day of school, but then again, she would be tired at the end of the day even if there wasn't school...she made sure of it. Since the timeline reset, she's found that if she didn't have anything to do, she would zone out, or find herself crying. once she even heard the whisper of the question of why she had to come with out her o-nee-chan...and the memory of their last time seeing each other played, making her cry more. Unknowingly sometimes, and often unwillingly, her emotions have been less in control than what they used to be, which forced to to try and control them more. This resulted in her having time when she became icy-faced, often complaining about being tired, or faking her smiles and niceness. Though that's not to say that she wasn't naturally nice...there's just time when that would falter, and she would either have to say that she was tired or replicate her usual niceness to fill in the blank for other people's sake. Not only was it disgraceful that she had time and time again allowed her emotions to take over, but it would be a worst disgrace if she pushed such things on the people that knew/cared about her. |

Ellis Stone was an unabashedly American girl with a mechanical knack and a dislike for Japanese traditional garb, and due to complexities concerning her left arm she never wore the student uniform outside of classes, preferring to wear T-shirts with various mechanical jokes, slogans, or official emblems of various mechanics groups or magazines and either Jeans or Short-shorts. The most interesting thing about Ellis was her cybernetic arm, which she boastfully stated in the past was designed and built by herself, and which she stored various tools she used for her passion. When Momoko returned from classes, Ellis was already sitting at the table with a rather bulky engine block on a grease apron sitting in front of her, busy working away at replacing the cylinders, which over time had worn away due to irregular oil changes. She looked up as Momoko entered the dorm looking tired as ever, although she had never explained why she was always so exhausted. In fact, Momo never really said much of anything, which was preferable to a more jumpy, hyperactive roommate that would end up getting into all of her confidential company secrets from General Motors, but at times she felt like Momo was acting like a particularly stubborn lug-nut that got stripped from some fool wrenching on it too damn hard, and she felt like the girl simply needed to open up more. "Do y'know what your problem is Momo? You always seem to act like a clipped bird, always quiet and timid. You never let your hair down, you're either too uptight or too icy, as if you don't have enough fun around here." Ellis spoke with an obviously American accent, Chicago specifically if Momoko could tell the difference. She didn't attempt to start up a big discussion or a heart-to-heart talk with her roommate, because she didn't feel the need. It wasn't like Ellis was perfect herself, she didn't become a cyborg just because it would have been cool or something after all. She hadn't yet shared the reason for her cybernetic prosthetic with any of the other students, but since Momoko was her roommate she would have caught a glimpse of the skin around the prosthetic by now, which was mottled and warped in a way that skin shouldn't be in a healthily-born person. This has something to do with why Ellis chose to make a comment on the side instead of attempting to strike up a real conversation with Momo, but she had been around the girl enough to know that she liked her privacy, and if she wanted to talk to Ellis then she would in due time, but for now there was no reason to push her into action when she would prefer not to. Things were quiet as she slipped under the blanket. She didn't really mind her roommate working on the engine. She's known since early oh that the girl was mechanically inclined. She would just clean up the mess later, if Ellis made any. There was a moment and then.. "Do y'know what your problem is Momo? You always seem to act like a clipped bird, always quiet and timid. You never let your hair down, you're either too uptight or too icy, as if you don't have enough fun around here." She gave it some thought and then chuckled, and sat up. "I'm having lots of fun. It just takes alot of energy." Now that she had thought about it, Momoko realized that she hadn't really talked to her room mate much. She had just sort of been then, helping out with the chres and stuff, and then sleeping. "I'm sorry I haven't really talked to you much. Do you need to?" Edited by kaori, Jan 18 2010, 06:14 PM.

The cylinders had finally been removed from the engine block, and as Ellis had expected the cylinders had worn away due to friction. She placed the useless parts on the secondary grease apron to avoid attracting the ire of her roommate by making a mess, properly oiled the cylinder housing, and began installing the replacement cylinders. When Momoko made the comment about all the fun she was having, Ellis stopped what she was doing and continued to listen to see if Momo was going to say anything further. One of the trade offs she made when designing her arm was that the thing was pretty noisy, so she had to stop moving the thing in order tho hear her clearly. A ninja Ellis ain't. "I'm sorry I haven't really talked to you much. Do you need to?" "Kinda, I just felt like it was somewhat awkward that we haven't talked much before now, what with us being roommate's and all. So now that we've broken the ice, I think that we should play a little game of round robin questioning in order to learn a little bit more about each other, I'll go first. What sort of fun are you having that you're leaving me out of?" As she spoke, Ellis spun the chair she was sitting in around so she could face Momo's room as well as she could and sat back down, in order to emphasize the fact that her roommate was more important then her pet projects right now. After all, she had all night to finish rebuilding the engine, while Momoko had a personal sleeping schedule to adhere to, and would probably head to bed sometime tonight anyways. |

She prepared for the usual reaction as she walked into the living room area and sat on a chair which was closer and facing Ellis. "hm. but i don't know what to ask you." Really. She knew that the girl enjoyed mechanics, she only brought parts in seemingly every other night. And she didn't really want to ask about the arm, it might be a sesitive topic. |

So Momo was an athlete, huh? That would explain the lack of energy sufficiently enough to satisfy Ellis's curiosity, and the number of martial arts wasn't much of a surprise either given the inherent danger within the school, at least according to the guy who had sent her here on a GM scholarship. It was for that very reason that she had designed her 'Spark-less Welder' which just so happened to be deadly accurate up to seventy-five meters. Self-defense was supposed to be absolutely necessary for survival around this general area of Japan due to the very presence of the school, and compared to the change Ellis had made for her protection it was a very sensible decision with a relatively minor cost, only taking energy and time in return. "Hm. But I don't know what to ask you." Without a moment's delay she knew exactly what Momoko really wanted to ask about, it wasn't exactly an unfounded thing. Even for a place with all sorts of oddities around cybernetics weren't all that common, she had only seen a few kids around with them, usually of very different designs then hers. Well, Cybernetics is still somewhat a hot topic of ethical debate around the world, so it was unlikely that many people would have the same model as another person. Either way, she decided to let her roommate know that any subject was approachable with her in the best way possible, by talking about the thing Momo both did and didn't want to talk about. "Alright, If you can't decide what question you want to ask, I'll just answer a curiosity that you doubtless have." Ellis then raised her cybernetic left arm so Momo could have a good look while she made her demonstration. "This arm was designed by me, built by me, and attached to me to replace my old limb by a team of highly qualified and highly-paid professionals. It was created to act as a prosthetic for my original arm, which was damaged due to a birth defect called 'Uteral banding.' The old limb was useless, so when I was able to replace it I simply threw it away. It's no stronger then my right, but..." Ellis' left hand then folded into the lower arm and a slender rod with an open end flipped into place where her hand used to be, which she then pointed out the window towards a tree just outside the dorm room. A crackling beam of red light (Because the laser always needs to be red by convention) then shot out of then end and pierced straight through the closest branch, leaving an 2 centimeter diameter hole in its wake. "It does come with it's very own spark-less welder. Pretty handy, huh?" Now that she was finished, Ellis retracted the laser and flipped her hand back into place as she lowered the arm into a more comfortable position. It was time for her question again, even if she had to make up the last one herself. "Alright, my turn again. I've shown you my abilities, so what are yours?" |

Momoko was somewhat surprised that she didn't get a bigger reaction than she did. She was used to people freaking out about such a small cute little girl knowing how to kick butt. But she stayed real quiet as her roomate guessed the topic that she didn't want to bring up, and proceeded the explain and demonstrate. Her eyes wer about as big as chicken eggs as the girl shot a hole through a tree. That was pretty cool. She nodded with a smile as Ellis commented about it being handy. "Alright, my turn again. I've shown you my abilities, so what are yours?" "I don't really have powers that I can show you, they're too subtle. I can record moments of time and view it over and over again for a little bit...and I can see peoples' muscles as if there was no skin." Yea, she really didn't like that she didn't something cooler. I mean sure, it makes it much easier for her to learn martial arts and stuff like that, but it wasn't like controlling something, or perhaps creating something..or flying...or whatever. She might as well not be a meta at all, that's how subtle her powers were. |

"I don't really have powers that I can show you, they're too subtle. I can record moments of time and view it over and over again for a little bit...and I can see peoples' muscles as if there was no skin." Now that was somewhat creepy in a rather interesting sense of the world, and yet it ended up being highly intriguing for Ellis at the same time. After all, the body was more or less a machine itself, yet it was the only one that Ellis did not have absolute knowledge of. This was because she was a mechanic, not a biologist, but it was still of some interest to her. From the tone of her voice, Momo seemed to be disappointed about how her powers weren't as flashy as the laser, and Ellis put some thought into finding a way to cheer her up about it, but everything she thought up seemed to fall short. In the end, she realized that the comparison between powers was the sort of thing that was bound to make somebody feel inadequate, and for the sake of keeping spirits up she shouldn't have brought up the topic in the first place. Then, an idea struck her, something that finally answered the question of how to make her feel better about it. "Really? Well that's interesting, what with the fact that the entire human body is really nothing more then a series of machines working together and all. And don't worry about your power, my only actual power is a super-advanced knowledge of mechanics myself, at least yours has a practical application in combat for finding weak points and such. So, I believe it's your turn to ask a question, so fire away." |

Momoko was really grateful for that. Not only did it explain that her roommate's power wasn't to shoot lazers 9that was a bonus) but to have extensve knowledge of machinery, and it helped to boost her self-esteem a little too. Just the effect that she was probably hoping for. So, I believe it's your turn to ask a question, so fire away." Momoko smiled and then looked sideways up at the ceiling in thought, as if the tiles would have an answer. But her stomache sure did. She didn't really notice it until now, but her stomache had been demanding to be filled for a while now...but now it was really pissed and growl so loud that it might be possible for someone with decent hearing to hear it from where Ellis was. "uh...hungry?" she asked, offering to make dinner again tonight for the both of them. |

Ellis' hearing was fine, and just for a moment she hated Momo's stomach for starting hers off. Hungry? You betcha she was hungry, the extra calories she burned up each day just by lugging around her arm was enough to ensure that, and the frozen burritos she cad eaten as a light snack earlier simply wasn't enough to cover it. Perhaps later she could simply engineer away the hunger through cybernetics... but that wasn't enough alone to merit a full restructuring of her digestive and circulatory system, and she'd still need some sort of energy source. Perhaps a microfusion reactor... Ellis then realized that she was falling back into her old routines again and it was rather impolite to ignore your roommate like that, so she snapped out of her thoughtful gaze that was pointed straight towards Momoko's stomach and gave an apologetic smile. "Famished. I'd kill for a burger right about now. Want me to help out or would you rather work solo? I'm not too good with oriental cuisine, Barbecue and pot roasts are what I grew up cooking, so if I would just get in your way feel free to decline." |

For a moment Momoko sat silent as Ellis seemed in thought about...something. Then ... "Famished. I'd kill for a burger right about now. Want me to help out or would you rather work solo? I'm not too good with oriental cuisine, Barbecue and pot roasts are what I grew up cooking, so if I would just get in your way feel free to decline." In momoko's mind, it was already decided to have burgers. She smiled, "No, it's ok. I can make burgers, they're easy." and yes, surprisingly, she did know how to make hamburgers. It was because she saw them and decided that she wanted to make them that she found out how easy it was. "anything you don't like? lettuce, pickles, onions?" of course, hamburgers wouldn't be the only thing on the menu, she would definately need to put something oriental on the table. |

"No, it's ok. I can make burgers, they're easy." The moment Momo said that Ellis nodded, reached over her chair to grab her book bag from the table, whipped out her biology textbook, a pencil, and a sheaf of paper, and started drawing up various designs for re-engineering the digestive system to avoid hunger or the need to eat at all. "Anything you don't like? Lettuce, pickles, onions?" "No lettuce for me, but if you have Honey Mustard please put some on mine." She was hitting a snag. The primary function of the digestive system was to process nutrients into the body, and without those nutrients the body simply cannot function. Her choices were to either completely re-engineer the entire body into something that wouldn't need the nutrients or to wait until a very late stage of cybernetics where the body was already in that state, and either way she still needed a way for the brain to get the nutrients it required. The project was looking grim, but she continued to search for other work-arounds that could take care of the problem, all the while drawing designs for how she could tackle the problem. After ten minutes of working, she had about a dozen different designs laying about the table, and she was still missing something. |

And within that en minutes, Momoko made up two burgers. She even made up homemade honey mustard sauce that tasted similar to storebought. Of course, to say that she got her burgers made in ten minutes isn't saying that it was easy or anything. She had to scramble to do it. But that was ok, because she was in the mood to see how quickly she could do something. Quietly, and with a small smile, she set down the small plate with the burger on it, and a napkin where the papers didn't cover the table. "may iI ask what you're working on now?" the truth was that t was her turn to ask..because ellis had asked if she would rather work solo. |

A small clink of stoneware on wood to her right pulled Ellis out of her planning and into the scent of well-done beef patty, which she then scooped up with her normal hand and dug in with gusto. Honey mustard, onion, pickle, tomato, wheat bread, bliss. For a moment she simply savored the combination with a happy look on her face, which was then immediately stopped by the realization that her night's work was on a design that would make eating the burger obsolete. That took quite a bit of the enjoyment out of both endeavors, but before she could make up her mind on what she wanted right here... "May I ask what you're working on now?" Ellis finished swallowing her mouthful and answered. "Yeah, of course you can. I'm trying to design an cybernetic implant to replace the digestive system so that you don't ever have to worry about things like nourishment. The problem is that the amount of work necessary would be downright severe, and unless the rest of your body was cybernetic you'd still need the nutrients and liquids, and even then the brain would still need things like carbs. In short, unless I can figure out a significant workaround this particular design is nothing more then a pipe dream. Got any ideas?" Once she was finished talking, Ellis took another bite and had another look at her latest design, which accounted for a piece of tech she didn't have yet. Actually, she wasn't going to be picky about it, an magical artifact or piece of biotechnology would be just fine in her books, she just needed something to fit in there to produce the nutrients the body needed, which would then be delivered to the rest of the body through the usual delivery systems. |

Sme smiled. She didn't get some of the more advanced terms, but she got the main idea. "nope, no ideas from me. I'm no good with that sort of thing. I'm still trying to figure out how those vending machines work." she told her as she turned to figure out what sort oriental thing she could make up. maybe she could just give up on it for now. "Even if I did, I would think it to be too troublesome to try and copy what the blood does for our bodies." She stated to put things in the sink. Then she grabebd the sheet of tinfoil that she had used to help shape the burger, crumpled it up, and threw it in the trash. "want anything to drink?" |
