!! If you haven't read [Brackenridge's Rules], DO SO !!

The long walk up the gravel drive after Pinnyfert's speech was surprisingly warm and pleasant. Freshly manicured lawn stretched for nearly a quarter mile up to the Manor. Lightning bugs floated whimsically in the sweet autumn air, like wisps tempting travelers to play. The manor was not modest by any means, but it was designed to be less ostentatious than perhaps it could have been. Warm red brick walls, dark shingles, and pristine white window frames. Not a single line of ivy smudged the edifice.

Pinnyfert's thin, pink lips smiled contentedly as he escorted his master's guests to the front door. His wiry frame was accentuated by the crisp lines of his black coat and slacks. Like any good butler, his gloves were immaculate. The moon shone against his carefully parted black hair and reflected in his glasses. From the right angle he looked more like an owl than a butler.

"To the north west of the manor is a hedge maze, if any of you care to adventure to it's center. The paths are all lighted with traditional Japanese paper lanterns overhead. I'm fond of them, you see, and the good Doctor allowed my indulgence. To the north east is a lagoon. There is a walking path around it's circumference, and we would be delighted if any of you were to take a dip. There will be towels, of course."

His long legs quickly strode to the front of the group and pushed open the broad oak doors with both hands. Inside was tastefully decorated to celebrate the season. Black and orange streamers swirled around each post and beam. Pumpkins of various sizes had been carved into jack-o-lanterns with assorted degrees of goofy to sinister smiles. The main foyer had a butler and a maid on hand with trays of treats, and a couple more walked by, hurriedly taking their positions elsewhere.

Pinnyfert stepped aside and gave a respectful half-bow at the waist, his arms ushering in the crowd.

"Brackenridge manor is yours to enjoy."

"Brackenridge manor is yours to enjoy."

Misa grinned. There was no hope of even trying to contain her excitement. She had never been to a party even half as fancy as this. Dain was probably accustomed to such ritz and glam, but Misa had spent her life living modestly in secluded, rural areas. She had never had money and had never really had friends who had money until she started going to Searchlight.

Her costume consisted of a black leather masquerade mask shaped like the face of a wolf. The ears and sides of the mask were adorned with silver swirled designes, and the face had a bright blue streak up the ridge of its snout and under its eyes that lead to a perfect circle on the forehead. The design followed the style of the "Okami" wolf goddess, and was quite befitting of a gentle werewolf girl who was born to heal people. Her cloak was a faux black fur with a hood.

Misa could smell the streamers (given that, oddly, those things always carried such a weird, distinct scent) and the freshly carved pumpkins. She might have wanted to wander over and listen for sounds to bounce off the shapes of the carvings, or trace her hands along them so that she could know what they looked like, but she also smelled the little candle flames inside. Misa had an anxiety with flames of any kind, and she made a great effort to avoid them. Currently she was debating asking Dain to go explore the hedge maze with her only because the butler had mentioned lit lanterns. Surely they wouldn't be too much of a bother, but she still wondered if it was worth intentionally putting herself on a path ridden with candle flames.

...Actually yeah, it was totally worth it. How many other opportunities would she have to explore a place like this? She could tolerate a few little flames above her head, she'd just have to be extra cautious. But no rush! They had just arrived, and there was plenty of time to go nosing around.

"This place is so lovely," said Misa, looking up at her boyfriend. Her gray, sightless eyes stared just past him through the eye holes of her mask. "What do you think? What does it look like?" ...Not that any visual description would make a lot of sense to her. She had no comprehension of colors and most visual images. But she was still curious! Was this a same-old, same-old for Dain, or was he just as excited as her? She didn't need to see to experience this place, but she was curious as to how Dain was experiencing it.

When Marrianna had heard the knock on her door, she'd climbed out of her hammock, crawled across the wall towards the door, and opened it while hanging from the ceiling. Rather than seeing someone standing there, all she saw was a pair of boxes, one of which had her name on it. She'd then dropped to the floor, picked up both boxes, and carried them into the room.

She set one on her roommate's desk and opened hers. After reading the invite, she looked at the items in the box and began to think. She'd always hated when her parents had dragged her to similar parties as a child. In fact, these types of parties were one of the reasons she'd fled to the jungle. However, as she thought about it, she decided she may as well give it a try. All she needed to do was put together a costume.

After having listened to the butler's speech, she walked up the path to the mansion with the other guests. She almost decided to leave due to the fact that the walk reminded her of her parents' house. She instead decided to continue up to the mansion.

While outside was dark, the inside was lit up more than enough for everyone to see her costume. She wore a halter top similar to her usual save for the fact that this was made from actual cloth and was black. She wore a black miniskirt as well, also cloth, and for those foolish enough to peak up her skirt she wore actual panties for once. Another first for her was that she was wearing fishnet stockings designed to look like spider webs going up her legs as well as a pair of short black dress boots. On her arms she wore fingerless spider web gloves that matched her stockings. Her cape was black with silver spider webs covering it, and her mask looked like a black spuder on a web. To complete her look, she had put her hair into one long braid down her back.

Upon entering, she merely walked over to the side of the room and pondered where she should explore before the festivities began.

Dain puckered his lips and let out a long low whistle,"This place is nice, the real kinda fancy. Not that stuff ya see on T.V. either. Does this place have a bowling alley?" He gave a nod and glanced around,"I bet this place has a bowling alley."

It was difficult to see most things that weren't directly in his line of sight. Upon his face was a red and black oni mask he had wore to sleep since its arrival at his doorstep. Wicked ebony horns protruded from the top with a matching beard and mustache combo. The black cape he had received was draped over his back and shoulders, it's reverse side lined with blood red that he had sewn in the night before. The costume coupled well with the black silk suit he had brought along with him from home. The only thing wrong with the ensemble was the mask warping the sound of his voice. Dain couldn't tell if it was his imagination, but when he spoke it sounded like the voice of an old proper Englishman. Perhaps his ears were just picking up a different pitch because the mask was made of wood?

"It's beautiful in here Misa, the kinda place Cinderella would go to for a ball." He walked casually beside her, hand in hand as had become his favorite habit. "It looks like the inside of one of them castles you'd read of as a kid. Kind with secret passages and trap doors that could lead to adventure or danger!" The mask hid the giant smile on his face as he glanced down towards his girlfriend. "It's the sort of mansion someone might only get to visit once. So let's not waste it shall we?"

With such a large space and so much set out to do, Dain couldn't wait to get started. "Now I've been to quite a few of these before, but never anything that looked as fun as all this. Usually, it's a bunch of stiff penguins all standing around talking about nonsense." He lead her along trying to figure out which way was where,"My stratagey is always the same for each of them though." He put his free hand out in front of Misa and rubbed his fingers together. "Start with the food."

He circled around and came to a slow halt,"Misa,"he turned and spoke softly,"I can't find it." Again the mask had come in handy, hiding the heartache on his face.

"Straight ahead an' to the right, sugar." Her voice uncoiled like a python from the shadow between a balcony support pillar and the wall. Eliza strode with a sultry gait into the light, hips swaying to the music starting to emanate from the lower level. A delicate pastry on a china plate was held daintily in her thin fingers. A black silk skirt (actually the cape sent to her) hung from her hips, slit from the hem to halfway up her thigh. Her corset was similarly black with indigo lace, and they matched the pinstripe gloves that stretched from elbow to fingertip. Her trademark top hat was plumed with crimson and indigo feathers, and her simple leather necklace bore a row of shark teeth. Dark chocolate eyes seemed to bore through the masks of both lovebirds. Her own mask was bone white. In fact, it resembled nothing less than a human skull, sans the lower jaw.

Her bare feet padded past them. They weren't the ones she wanted to talk to. There was a young woman with a fascinating costume she wished to speak with. "I see we share a fondness for the noble spider," Eliza slid into a spot next to Marrianna. "Something about the patience, the elegance of the web, the ferocity of the attack..." She hummed to herself. "Mmmm... little lovelies."

A flutter of ebony wings was the only warning Marrianna got before a raven alighted on a candle next to her. It stared at her accusingly, the cawed. Eliza clicked her tongue disapprovingly. "Francois, you know better." She held the pastry out for Marrianna to take. "He's a greedy one. Best stay on his good side."

Marrianna watched as the woman made her way towards her. She hadn't been here five minutes and already she was being approached. Here we go, she thought to herself, the awkward conversations begin.

"I see we share a fondness for the noble spider," the woman began."Something about the patience, the elegance of the web, the ferocity of the attack.... Mmmm... little lovelies."

This actually managed to throw Marrianna off. Rather than the woman trying to immediately make her feel uncomfortable she was talking about a common interest. Within seconds of this thought, though, she put her guard back up. Just because she hadn't begun with an insult didn't mean it wasn't coming. Before she could respond, though, a raven landed on a candle next to her and cawed at her.

"Francois, you know better," the woman said to the raven before holding out a pastry on a plate to Marrianna, "He's a greedy one. Best stay on his good side."

Marrianna smirked as she took the offered pastry and split it in half, offering half of it to the raven. "He's not the only one with a bad side you don't want to be on. How about a truce. Stay off mine and I'll stay off yours. Deal?"

She hadn't taken the bait. Eliza pretended to pick at a loose thread that didn't exist as the raven voraciously tore into the pastry and flew off with it. She turned her warm, inviting gaze back to the girl wrapped up in a spider's web. She was tense; cynically mistrusting, even. Either she enjoyed Eliza's company not at all, or she had gone against her better judgement in coming in the first place.

"Now that's hardly fitting a young lady. Il est une fete! There are too many sides to each person to know which one you'd like to be on. A soul is like a diamond." She held her hand up to a light, as if she could see the multitude of rainbow fractals one might throw off. "No matter how you look at them, each time they gonna seem different. And tonight..." A deck of cards was suddenly in her hands. Had they always been there? When did they appear? Elizabeth did so enjoy her little parlor tricks. She shuffled once, twice, thrice, then fanned them between the two of them with a single hand. She indicated Marrianna should pick one with the other. An encouraging lilt with her chin to turn it over.

The Tower. Disaster; upheaval; sudden change. Whether Marrianna knew it's meaning or not, the coy smirk on Eliza's lips widened to an excited grin. She gently took the card back and gave her deck another vigorous shuffle. "Tonight I think we should endeavor to stay on each other's good side, non?"

"Tonight I think we should endeavor to stay on each other's good side, non?"

Curiosity had caused her to take the card. She didn't believe in Tarot any more than she believed her mother could recivilize her. After hearing what the woman had said, she thought for a moment, then replied.

"In all honesty I don't know if I even have a good side," she said completely emotionless, "For years all humans have been on my neutral side until they have proven otherwise. More often than not they have wound up on my bad side."

She gestured to the cards before continuing. "I've heard those cards can be used to tell someone's past as well as possible futures. I'll save you some trouble." She gestured to the mansion. "I was born to this world. Had I so desired I would have never wanted for anything. I hated it. Yet my parents continuously tried to make me like them. So I ran away."

She paused for a moment, then gestured towards the raven that had flown off. "I grew up in his world. It was much simpler living there. Animals you can always trust to be animals. To follow their natural born instincs." She looked at the webbing on her arms. "Like the spiders my abilities emulate I had to be patient. Set the trap and wait for the right moment to strike. I no longer live in the jungle, having partially traded it for the concrete one, but the jungle has most certainly not left me."

She then looked at the deck as the woman shuffled it. "I've seen a lot since leaving the jungle. Not certain that I actually belive in Tarot. However if it will allow me to stay on your 'good side' I may as well indulge a bit."

These two had been invited as had Emerie. She was in Asgard working on Malik's weapons. She was a force of nature looking for him. So Irea and Abril were getting out for the night.

Irea's horns curved over her skull. Her long red brown hair was piled in a complex braid. Her costume was was emerald green and consisted of corset with gold and black embroidered flames. The pants were skin tight and black with thigh high leather pants. A harlequin like mask covered both eyes, one cheek and her lips. One side was green with black flames the other black with green flames and the lips were painted gold. She stood with confidence. She grinned and winked and Abril before hitting the sweets table. She smiled at the two girls.

Abril was in a riotous costume. She was in a little dress the was splattered with magenta turquoise and green paint. A jaunty turquoise top hat sat atop her curled teal hair. Instead of a mask she had a green veil. Stripes of magenta and green covered her stockings and white Mary Jane heels completed it. Abril was shy and quiet. She was the only one who had no significant other.

Sadira had not been to any school functions in some time. She had put on contacts for tonight. Her mask covered her eyes. It was white with black tears coming from her eyes. She wore a white corset and a tattered black skirt and ankle boots.

She couldn't believe she was here. That Rhage let her come with his son. Only one of the twins got a box. Their costumes wet opposites. A black mesh shirt cover her and over it was a red leather corset dress with black buckles. Her boots were black and thigh highs. Her mask was a delicate black skull mask. Her curling black hair hung around her face. She moved away from the gentle unicorn as quickly as possible. She hoped Death had gotten an invite.

Rhoss was still on edge after the werewolf visit. He hadn't seen his Elijah in a few days and decided to come to the party. His costume was white pants and a silver mesh shirt. He had white boots and a feathered white mask.

(One thing that had to amuse some...was how ironic some of the costumes were, exactly. For instance, out from the night sky came a swwoping sound, and before you know it...there was a Jabberwock with a black leathery scale hide, long tail and horns, yellow-glowing eyes, talons, and an invitation. For those of you wondering where his mask was...he was wearing it. It was wearing a Jabberwock mask...over his Jabberwocky face. It fit perfectly. So, in a sense, he was hiding in plain sight now.)

She had come alone. But she at least knew 2 people! That was what kept Felicia on the path to the rave party and not turning around. Hunter and Sage were mia. Kendra wasn't too keen on it but then the pixie was enjoying spending time with her niece and boyfriend. She was happy for Kendra. And Adara too. The other twin hadn't decided to come because of her pregnancy and Kita.

Boy was she alright with her simple life.

The red haired pixie had gotten help from Adara for her short hair updo. A black butterfly mask covered her face. Beneath the cape was a rather short tutu with black corset with red ribbons. She wore velvet flats.

As Felicia walked around she spotted Abril.

"Abril!"

A few hours before the party. “What the hell!!” Ryu was clearly upset as he looked into a box that had an invitation to a part as well as a costume. Only problem, it wasn’t for him. “Why the hell did Shade get invited but not us?!” He looked angrily at his shadow, Rev. “This is bull!” And then the idea hit and it hit hard like a cruise missile. He smiled as he looked around to make sure nobody was watching, not like he would see the invisible man if he was there. “MUAHAHAHA!!!” The evil laughter of a madman filled the area as Ryu began to change.

“What about my costume, says here that you have to be wearing it to get in... wait... wait! Wait! Wait! Wait!” It was too late for Rev as Ryu pulled his gun and shot the shadow man in the head. He would have to bring Rev back once they were inside and Rev would appear next in full costume as Ryu left wearing his full combat gear, a black cape, and a fairly plain white mask, aside from the design around the left eye.

Shade’s mask, stolen by Ryu

At the entrance, Ryu managed to get inside by assuming Shade’s identity. However, there was another that arrived. A boy wearing a raccoon mask and a white cape. With it he wore a black suit, both high end and the colors looking much more like the mask that he was wearing. The boy was young, being only about fifteen years old, but he was intelligent and spoke multiple languages, but the thing that separated him from normal people was the fact that he had many enemies and very little friends. His name was Wilhelm and he was, unknown to him, the enemy of at least a few people that had already arrived.

"Hey baby." A voice said behind Ryu.

Thorn was dressed in a pair of tiny black shorts and a green and silver corset. A rose was tucked in her hair. Her mask was black and had rose petals at the corners of her eyes. Fishnet stockings and ankle boots completed the look.

"Ryu!" A girl's voice called. Thorn immediately felt jealous of the stunning Asain woman headed their way. She smiled and Thorn felt she looked familiar.

"Is Death coming?" She asked looking hopeful. It clicked. She had been with the other guy out in the forest.

Abril turned and giggled. "Hey Felicia! Did you see Irea and Rhoss...well Rhoss was here. He must have gone somewhere else in the house."

Idea looked towards the door and saw something that made her night. Ritz in all his wocky glory. She waved at Abril and Felicia and ran to the love of her life and threw her arms around his neck.

Misa was stifling a laugh at Dain's misfortune when someone came over with the food. She thanked the girl politely and then helped herself to the treats, being sure that Dain was easily able to find it too.

"Oh my gosh, this is delicious," Misa said, grinning up in Dain's direction. "What do you think?"

There was so much activity in the room! So many different smells and sounds and conversations buzzing all around them. Misa soaked all of it up like she was sunbathing. It was wonderful hearing everyone so happy. The school still seemed to be recovering from the last attack, most people still shaken and feeling down about it even after all this time. It was nice to see everyone's spirits lifted. After what the teens here had gone through, they all deserved a nice party like this.

Misa just wondered about the host. Who was he? He was obviously a prominent figure, having all this money and all. But Misa had never heard of him.

"Dain, have you ever heard of this doctor?" It was surely possible, right? After all, Dain came from a prominent family himself. Maybe he had met the guy through his father's networking.

Ritz: Heyo, I made it!

(The weird thing about this Jabberwock was that he had a british accent, bit of a wild one at that. The buck-toothed and multi-fanged creature was indeed the boyfriend of the dark-haired demoness. His arms wrapped around her in a tight hug as she took hold of him, making a comforting trill sound.)

Ritz: Good to see ya here. So, what do ya think? Overdressed? Or under?

(He was both in costume and and...technically not wearing a damn thing!)

Ryu looked at Thorn and his jaw nearly n hit the floor, luckily the mask he was wearing had been meant for Shade and so it covered his whole face. "Wow, you look way too sexy today. I won't be able to concentrate on anything today." And then Shiori arrived, calling Ryu by his name, "Shhh!!!" He said to Shiori as she asked him if Death was coming, "I'm Shade." He was clearly Ryu, since Shade could barely speak, just like Death. Then Ryu put his arm around Thorn and pulled her close to him before speaking again. "I didn’t get an invite, so I stole Shade's identity and costume. As for Death, I haven't heard anything from him since the operation in the forest. I bet he'll show up, he likes gatherings because of the information exchanged at them."

Wilhelm stayed quiet as he moved through the first floor of the manor, moving past Ryu and as he did he brushed against him and slipped something into his pocket, a piece of paper with a few notes on it, and that would become clear before too long. He was here for much the same reason as Death or Shade would be there, to gather information. Wilhelm didn’t have a significant other like Ryu or Death and he seemed to hold no interest in living a normal life, he lived with the sole purpose of destroying the Yakuza, but it seemed now he was more in line with simply causing chaos.

Felicia shook her head. Well she had seen Irea but not Rhoss. Was only one twin at the party? She waved to Irea as the girl went off to see her boyfriend.

"I saw Irea but not Rhoss. Though I'll probably run into him later. I like your costume," she said. "Have you seen anyone else that we know?""

Felicia wasn't a too terribly social person between catching up.in school work and learning more about her heritage. She was also doing a lot of practicing on her powers. Most of the people she knew had been introduced to her by the pixie twins.

Except for Rhoss and his brother. She knew them from the pirate ship.

"Well there is another unicorn here she came with Rhoss. Other than those two, nope. Emerie was invited but she was in Asgard getting a surprise for someone." Abril explained, "Alanna is coming with a date."

Irea laughed and simply answered, "...Yes." The young demoness led the way over to her fellow crew mate and good friend. "Hey guys this my boyfriend Ritz. Ritz, this is Felicia and Abril."

Thorn hit him with her knockout grin.

Both girls frowned at his denial of his identity.

"Yes you are." They said in unison.

Then he explained and both girls shrugged as they knew that Shade wouldn't be here anyway. Thorn looked around for the other part of this loving trio. "Where is Rev? Did Shade shoot him in the head again?"

Shiori grabbed the piece of paper and tried to make sense of it. She handed it out to Ryu. "You dropped this spy paper."

"Can't believe he stole your costume for the party." Alanna grumped. She sighed. He was invisible and walking with another big guy who must be Death. They were walking towards the door.

"There's no place in the world I'd rather be than right here, right now." Dain's voice had almost become a pitch of pure pleasure as he found his way over to where the food was on full display. His eyes gleamed and welled up with tears of bliss as the veritable feast finally hit his nose with a plethora of pleasant scents. His stomach flipped and twisted with all the delight a child has on Christmas morning. The most difficult decision Dain had to make was where to start with all of it.

"It's beautiful, Misa! It's like somethin' outta one of those cooking books Kirien has on his bookshelf!" He snatched up a plate and quickly shoveled as much of everything as he could onto it. By the time he was done there wasn't space enough to fit a napkin onto his dish. It was loaded with kabobs, fresh seafood, and more cheeses than he could count. There was a part of him that didn't feel he should gorge himself in front of his girlfriend. But that part had been drowned out by the hunger groans coming from his midsection. This is where their love would be tested.

"It's so much more delicious than I imagined it'd be, Misa!" Dain pulled a kabob stick from his gullet, the steak and peppers picked clean off. "I've never met the guy who owns this place but after tonight I'd definitely come over for dinner whenever he wanted." He wiped his face clean and took another glance around the room they occupied. "I'll tell ya what though, there's somethin' a little off about this place." He made a face as he tossed a couple pieces of seared shrimp into his mouth. "I ain't exactly sure what it is yet, but I've got a feelin' that before the night's out we'll definitely find out what it is exactly." He finished chewing long enough to shrug his shoulders,"I bet that's when we'll see whoever the Doctor is."

It had been a good long while since Dain had surrounded himself with so many meta-humans. All of them with unique abilities or traits that separated them from the outside world. Every last one had something that made them special, and it was hard not to appreciate that when he was around as many as had showed up to the event tonight. These were his people, and this was his home.

"So what do you think of it, Misa?" He turned so he was right beside her, plate in one hand and something else to eat in the other. "Anybody here that you recognize so far? Maybe we could go and socialize if you're feelin' up for it?" He scanned the faces he could still see,"Cuz I don't think Kirien's gonna be makin' an appearance tonight, and I dunno how great I'd be for conversation when I've got all those food in my mouth."

Ryu smiled at Thorn and shook his head when she asked where Rev was. "Nope, I shot him. There was only one costume and it was for Shade. Can't sneak in with both of us. I figure if we find a more secluded place we can being him back." Rev was unique in the fact that he couldn't be killed, at least not his body. However if Ryu died then so too would Rev because of their connection. Then Shiori handed him a piece of paper. "Spy paper? This isn't mine." Ryu commented as he looked at it. It was encrypted and would need to be cracked, Wilhelm wasn't going to make things easy for everyone.

Shade was walking with Alanna, of course he was invisible. "Yeah, well it's not as though I would have worn it anyway. I much prefer being invisible." He did, in fact he was invisible mist of the time when he went out, of course there was one person that could see him, actually make that two. Both people with him could see him, Alanna with her power and Death with his electronic eye. Shade wasn't as worried about Death, they had been allies for years, but Alanna had seen him, which wasn't too bad, until she had stolen his mask and saw his face. Somehow he agreed to go on a date with her, and now his life was getting really confusing because he was never really the romantic type.

Death was wearing the costume sent to him, which was pretty much his combat gear and a mask. The mask was a skull mask, simple in a way. He figured it was like that because of his lack of powers and they probably just went off his name. Under his cloak was his sword that he took with him everywhere. He looked like the grim reaper with that mask though as he approached the door with Alanna and Shade.

Alanna saw Thorn and Ryu and waved. Her costume was plain looking at first. An all white skin tight body suit with flat sole boots. Her mask was a clear crystal mask. Her long orange red hair hung loose for once.

Shiori was not happy. Her Death had arrived with another mare. Her eyes took on a mad look as she trembled. She lunged only to be caught by the insanely fast Thorn.

"Don't you dare hurt her."

"She is with my stallion!"

"She is interested in Shade. I wouldn't be surprised if he was here but we can't see him. Now settle that ass down."

The two inhuman creatures stared each other down for a few long seconds before Shiori relaxed and Thorn turned to see her good friend.

The little unicorn did pounce on Death as soon as he was close enough. Her mask was a black lace skull mask. It was a delicate version of his.

"I missed you in Ponyville." She said her red gold eyes pouting up at him.

"...Yes."

(He had to laugh at that, mostly because he knew the full impact of a certain inside joke they were sharing right there. No matter. Upon being introduced to two others, he raised himself on two legs with his head high and let out a sound like...)

Ritz: Cuck-cuck-cuck-cuck-cuck-cuck!

(With his buckteeth clacking in perfect tune.)

Ritz: Hi there, you two. What's up?

(And then, he climbed onto the ceiling and clung to it.)

Ritz: Why, it's ME, of course!

Felicia nodded. She knew about Em looking for Malik. That was a ball of weirdness she stayed clear of. Whatever happened between Em, Kendra and Malik Felicia had heard the entire thing and chose to stay out of it.

"I see," she said and the Irea brought over her boyfriend. She had remembered him from the time Irea got her wings chopped off. But they hadn't exactly stuck around for pleasantries. Irea had need to be healed.

She waved with a smile. "Hello." Then her eyes bugged out as he crawled up the wall. "What are you?"

She had seen a lot of weird things in her life since finding out that she was a pixie but hot damn. This was as weird as the Vex and Brethren thing.

Ryu watched as the seen unfolded and his love was holding back Shiori from attacking Alanna. Meanwhile Shade had moved in front of Alanna, making sure that if Thorn let Shiori go then she wouldn’t attack Alanna. Death’s eye was on Shade in this regard, keeping his eye on the man that was his closest ally as he was a bit shocked that would even bother with romance at all. In fact when Death was told about how Alanna had seen Shade’s face he was surprised the girl wasn’t found dead in a river. He had known Shade and normally he was kind, but when it came to that mask that covered his face, well people have been killed by him for less.

When the scene ended and Shiori was close to him, Death wrapped his arms around her just as she pounced on him. “I’ve missed you too.” Death was a busy person, he was leading a band of mercenaries and he had a lot of things to do including the assassinations of targets that were far more powerful than most meta-humans. Not to mention he was after the boy Wilhelm as well, he saw that boy as evil and he needed to make sure that he couldn’t cause harm to the people that Death cared for.

“Hey Death buddy, I got this paper. Your woman said that I dropped it, but this doesn’t make sense at all, think it was planted on me?” Ryu asked right before the paper was taken from him by the invisible man that decided to appear so he could read the paper. “HEY! That’s stealing!” Ryu yelled at Shade as the two were always at odds, but deep down they were also close friends.

“Not stealing, borrowing.” Shade spoke with a soft voice as his red eyes peered from the mask that he was always wearing to look at the paper. “Well, this is interesting. Looks like Wilhelm’s hand writing, seems he’s left us a coded message.” Shade continued to examine it, he was a bit of a nerd when it came to his work. “Interesting, this isn’t a normal piece of paper, it has a slightly different feel it. A different texture. Seems the boy wants to play games and he’s left us an interesting game to say the least.” He said as he put the paper in his pocket. “I’ll need time later to decode it.” He said right as he disappeared.

“Told you he was stealing it. Invisible thief!” Ryu commented like a child that just had something taken away from him.

Misa tried not to giggle at Dain as he inhaled the snacks, but he was cute when he was starving like that. It made her feel better about what pig she could be with her own wolfish appetite.

Quote:

"So what do you think of it, Misa?"

She was actually in the middle of scarfing down some of her own refreshments, so she held up a finger for him to give her a minute before she swallowed and answered.

"It's amazing, Dain. Like you said, something out of a fairy tale. I never imagined being invited to something as fancy as this." Misa shook her head, still in disbelief, and stuffed another snack into her mouth.

Quote:

"Anybody here that you recognize so far? Maybe we could go and socialize if you're feelin' up for it? Cuz I don't think Kirien's gonna be makin' an appearance tonight, and I dunno how great I'd be for conversation when I've got all those food in my mouth."

Misa turned her head up in his direction. There were several smells she recognized. After all, they were all her classmates. But it was hard to pick out exact voices amongst all the other sounds. But just when she started to listen in...

"Misa! Thank God," Kei said, hurrying over to her. He greeted her with a brief hug, and she giggled, having a mouthful and unable to say hi back just yet.

Kei was dressed pretty similar to Misa. Only his mask was furry and brown, and his cape was brown too and not hooded. When she didn't answer back right away, Kei glanced up at Dain. His scary mask gave him a start, and since these masks seemed to mean something about their powers, Kei wasn't sure he wanted to know what Dain's were.

"Oh...uh, hi. It's Dan, right?" Oh well, he was close.

Misa swallowed and laid an affectionate hand on Kei's shoulder. She was trying to mind the touching since she remembered it made Dain uncomfortable, but she knew he understood and the affection between wolves was quiet overpowering.

"Hello, Kei. Are you having fun?"

"Oh yeah," he said, chuckling nervously. He looked around the room. Everything was so fancy. It was intimidating for the shy wolf. "I'm just glad to finally see someone I know." Kei was pretty shy, and he didn't have too many friends outside of his gamer pals and his pack.

"No one from the pack is here?"

"I don't know, but I haven't found any. I'm really just looking for my mate." He blushed under the mask, shifting uncomfortably. "She never got back to me about whether she was going or not, so I hoped if I just showed up I'd run into her." Kei shrugged. If Kimora didn't show up, he'd be a helpless puppy all night. And Misa's mate was too intimidating for him to third-wheel on them.

She had been downstairs waiting for the music to start. Her wolf mask was as blue as the long loose braids that fell around her face and shoulders. She wandered up to the party looking for anyone she knew.

She in a blue corset and a long flowing white skirt. She wore no shoes. Her brown eyes landed on Kei and confusion rolled through like it always seemed to do of late. He called her his mate but other than light affectionate touching and kisses here and there he had made no move to make it a reality. They didn't even share and abed. She stayed in the same room as Enya and Gemma and sometimes the wolf her brother was after Gail. She wanted Kei to pursue her the way his brother went after Gail.

Alanna snatched the paper out of his pocket like she had zero fear of him. She scanned the paper and the computer that was her mind began to work fast breaking down the code. It took her moments her face dead and robotic before she looked up. "It's...about Malik."

Thorn wrapped her arms around Ryu and kissed him to distract him from the pilfered letter. She was having fun and now that she knew Shiori wasn't the least bit interested in Ryu they could be friends.

Shiori pressed her forehead to his. "I am getting better and I could stay with you couldn't I? I would be useful I fun to have around." She wanted to leave the Grove for good and Death seemed to care for her. She needed him more than she needed her own kind.

Irea laughed as she tilted her head back to look up at her boyfriend. He always made her laugh and was there for her even when her own family had abandoned her.

"Are coming down anytime tonight?" She asked.

The lights go out!

Darkness permeated by cries of surprise are drowned out by a masterful rendition of a famously ominous organ piece. A booming guffaws echo in the enclosed space. An enormous, glowing, Oz-like head materializes from thin air. A sinister grin of perfect white teeth. A manicured pointed beard, handlebar mustache, and a pair of goggles adorn this giant head. A black top hat, from which sprouts a thin mechanical arm holding a monocle in place before the left eye.

"Greetings, my guests! I am pleased beyond words you could attend my little... soiree." The head enunciated the word as if tasting it's hidden meanings. "It is I, your host! Doctor Evil Von Satanburger. Tonight you have fallen into my trap!" The Doctor chortles darkly.

"I have created a series of dissonance engines and will activate them... five seconds ago. NONE OF YOU WILL HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR POWERS WHILE YOU RESIDE IN MY DOMAIN! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!" He brought his laughter under control, only to inhale deeply and continue his monologue.

"Calling for help will be useless. No signals in nor out. Escape? HAH! Force-fields, baby! Anyone with any weapons may keep them, but attack my staff and my army of GHOSTLY-POSSESSED ROBOT SERVANTS will gang up and ground-pound you into next week!" Doctor Von Satanburger giggles ominously to himself.

"Solve the mysteries of my manor, and maybe I'll let you free. You have until the break of dawn. Anyone still in my manor will be trapped in the alternate dimensional void in which my estate naturally hails from. My honored guest, until the end of time! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!"

The head explodes into fractals of holographic dust. The lights return to normal.

BEFORE THE MESSAGE...

"Hello. What are you?"

Ritz: Can't ya tell? I'm a Jabberwock, I am! Uhh, look it up.

"Are coming down anytime tonight?"

Ritz: Sure, love! Ya had but ask!

(He dropped down on his forelimbs, then came to rest by her as he had been before...and then the LIGHTS WENT OUT!! Ritz had no trouble seeing, of course, not that that mattered, given the reason they had GONE out. Well, that is until five seconds before he mentioned cancelling powers. THEN, Ritz was an ordinary leathery-looking Jabberwock with a Jabberwock mask on.)

AFTER THE MESSAGE...

Ritz: So...does anybody know what mysteries this bloke HAS to solve?

"As an expert at the game, Betrayal at House on the Hill, as well as Clue and a few other games, I would say...that we have to find out what's so damn mysterious first, and then figure it out."

(Wait, who said that? Holy crap! That man in the corner with the trenchcoat, the face shadowed by the hat, and the black-handled demon sword! IT'S MR. STORMALONG! Japan's dark and mysterious crimefighter has appeared in this house!)

Stormalong: The good news is, I still have a spikey sword, a bunch of chains, and some clever mundane materials. The bad news is, all my considerable power is gone and I'm now only comparable to Bruce Lee.

(That's...not actually that bad.)

Stormalong: Does anybody know why parts of the mansion are off limits. really? I felt out the place while I still had my powers and this much confused me.

"A jabbahuh?!" Felicia said growing even more confused. But then the lights when out and the floating face spoke. She couldn't use her powers. It wasn't as if they'd help anyway. She could fly and use vines. That's about it.

After wards she looked even more confused. What was the problem or mystery?

"Nope. Don't know the mystery or why parts are off limits. I'd think that they hold dangerous or important items? " Felicia offered looked at Ritz and Stormalong. "Did even know there were off limits parts until now."

Death was smiling under his mask as Shiori spoke to him, "Of course you can stay with me. I would want nothing more." This was Death's chance, a chance to have happiness for the first time since he was taken. In fact most of the people that had been taken were like him in that regard, wanting to find their happiness, well except for Ryu, he had always just been a wild maniac which was why he didn't have the scar around his neck like Death and Shade had.

Shade looked at Alanna as she had taken the coded message and told them it was about Malik. "You know, you shouldn't take things that don't belong to you."

Ryu started to interject, "Says the thie-" And he was being kissed by Thorn and it's gone. His attention span plummeted thanks to the kiss and it always got him, and not just him as Rev manifested himself.

"Mind if I cut in." He spoke as Ryu's kiss ended and he was about to give Thorn the kind of kiss that would make her toes curl, the kind that might instantly give that movie a PG-13 rating, and then he was gone as Ryu's powers shut down. Thanks to the mysterious manor. Damn it all! Rev's thoughts could only be heard inside of Ryu's head, and that boy started to laugh until he looked like he might fall over.

"Hahahaha!! What a loser! 'Mind if I cut in.' Hahahaha! Now you get nothing for that cheesy line. You're just stuck in my head now... hahahaha!!" Then it clicked in his mind and Ryu was slumped over looking like he was defeated. "Damn, now I have to deal with him in my head. This sucks."

Shade found out instantly that he couldn't turn invisible and Death seemed completely calm and unworried about the situation which made sense since he didn't have powers anyway.

Kirien: "Wanna go a round..?"

Stubborn pride was the reason Kirien was late for the party.

The costume itself hadn't been too much trouble. He had accentuated his white mask and black cape by donning a traditional kimono in white with black obi. Upon his head he wore a monk's staw hat attached to the front of which was an omamori with the words 'Wind Spirt' scribbled upon it. Black hakama finished the outfit. Nothing too ornate, just as Kirien prefered. No, the costume wasn't the problem.

It was the blindfold.

Somewhere along the lines while adding to his costume he had come up with the idea to be a 'blind' spirit. He figured that by removing his sight, he could perhaps passively train his developing 'sixth sense' by allowing his other senses to guide him. By passively, he intended to do so without actively using his powers and tiring himself out from the physical strain. The idea was sound in principle; if his abilities allowed him to sense danger before it struck actively, then using it passively as a radar to 'feel' his way around without sight shouldn't have been too difficult to do. Not only would it have been an excellent way to train without expending too much energy, it would also look really cool for him to be able to move about effortlessly whilst completely blind.

Quite unfortunately, the theory could not have been more wrong in practice. As it turned out, covering his eyes didn't reflexively trigger a 'passive radar' mode based on his sixth sense. Pretty much all it did was make him blind.

This is where stubborn pride kicked in.

Convinced that it was only a matter of time before the aforementioned passive radar 'kicked in', the youth refused to remove his blindfold. He instead groped and stumbled his way around, his actual sixth sense occasionally saving him from seriously hurting himself. After taking an extra half hour trying to wander his way to the place where he was meeting Phanphan before heading over to the manor, she eventually came looking for and found him. From that point on the kind nekojin had been guiding the stubbornly determined Kirien with mostly voice commands and gentle nudges in the right direction.

Presently, the two found themselves outside the manor, where it appeared no one was lingering as the party had already well past started.

"Guess we're a bit late..." He chuckled nervously as he rummaged into his sleeve to find his cell phone, "I'll call Dain and let him know we're here. Knowing him he's probably attached himself to whatever table has the food." As he finally retrieved his phone it dawned on him that he couldn't see the touchscreen. This was going to be... Problematic.

Kirien's stubborn pride was the reason Phanphan was late for the party.

The Nekojin girl had been ready on the early side from sheer excited energy. A costume party? That was right up her alley! Well, maybe the whole mask and cape combo wouldn't have been her first choice... but every great party needed a theme! Besides, the toothy, feral feline mask she'd received with the invitation was pretty awesome. Phanphan had happily constructed a suitably demonic costume around it. A faded old kimono of now-indistinguishable color had gained some "moth" holes from her nails and teeth, and a light dusting of flour added to the decrepit look of the garment. Her feet were nowhere to be seen beneath it. A bell tinkled hauntingly from the collar around her neck. The provided cape she had shortened to show off her two long, dark tails (one of which twitched and swished in excitement), and the rest of her costume was more or less made up of her natural attributes; her claws were a bit lengthened, some eyedrops made her blue slit-pupiled eyes reflect light much more than normal, and her ears were... well, cat ears. All in all Phanphan was rather pleased with the effect.

Currently, however, those cat ears were slightly flattened in irritation. After all the effort she'd put into her costume, Phanphan had found herself waiting around for her erstwhile boyfriend long past the time they were due to meet up tonight. Fed up after more than half an hour, she'd gone looking for him, sure that a certain best friend had fouled up their plans somehow. Finding Kirien wandering around blindfolded had not disabused her of this notion, but Kirien's enthusiastic explanation of "training" his sixth sense had been so endearingly Kirien that she couldn't bring herself to yell at him for having such an idiot idea. After all, it would be sort of hypocritical to scold Kirien for wanting to sharpen his senses when she had a sixth sense herself... So it was they'd made their way slowly but surely to the location of the party, only to find a closed door. Granted, it was a very impressive closed door... what a perfect setting! Hopefully they hadn't missed too much of the festivities yet.

"You should have let me hold your hand. It's not cheating if we're dating." Phanphan watched Kirien blindly stare at his phone for a moment before taking pity on him yet again, and carefully navigating his contacts list with one clawed finger. "There, it's dialing." How Kirien expected Dain to answer the phone if he was busy stuffing his face was beyond her, but Phanphan was just relieved that they'd finally made it here. Maybe a few cracks from Dain about Kirien's blindfold would convince him to take the thing off for the party...

Pinnyfert, head butler to Brackenridge Estate and ambassador to all guests, strode into the main hall as if nothing was out of order. "Ladies and gentlemen. Dinner will now be served." The dapper older man retrieved a tiny crystalline bell from a waist pocket and gave it a shake. The lights split and scattered in a million tiny rainbow vectors, causing everyone's eye sight to go hazy for just a split second.

The air suddenly filled with the scent of a delicious feast being presented in the dining room by a dozen servants. Carving stations with boar, beef, and lamb were ready to receive hungry guests. Three maids held decanters of various beverages. Two younger waiting staff held ladles at the ready to dole out potato, vegetable, and soup alike.

Every guest in this thread suddenly feels ravenously hungry... Except Kirien. He can hear the servants, the other guests, and the music emanating from down below but can smell no food.

Alanna felt cut off. Balin was upstairs but now she couldn't feel the core. Panic rocketed through the small Mycerian. She fell back against Shade. She gripped her head as the sphere was dim.

"Gone gone they are gone. Aurum, Balin, Nikki. Where where aaah can't find the core need to connect can't connect." She said shuddering. She hated being cut off from her mother.

Shiori was about to say something. A flash of lightning struck in the center of the room. A small petite girl in a red skirt split up to the hips and a golden breastplate crouched there. Her uncle had gotten her in but he had warned her he couldn't get her back out. Emerie stood and saw Ryu. Her eyes narrowed. She knew him. He had been in the helicopter that took her Malik.

"You!" She screamed and ran at him. Only to be met by Thorn. The girls were about to clash when Abril and Irea grabbed Emerie and Shiori and Alanna grabbed Thorn.

"You took my Mal from me! I am gonna rip your eyes out!"

Kei. The proverbial pain in Dain's back. The insatiable hunger that once consumed his thoughts was inexplicably gone the moment he had heard the name of that boy. Dain's eyes narrowed into malicious slits of flame as he remembered their first meeting. Wolf or not, Dain found it difficult to watch anyone put their hands on Misa. His understanding of pack life and social behavior was quite limited, but it was only for lack of exposure. There were aspects of her wolf culture he didn't yet understand. Dain didn't have to understand it, but he did have to respect it.

So when Kei squeezed his way into another of their get-together's, Dain feigned a friendly smile. Then, as if someone had scratched a record, Dain winced as he heard his name misconstrued by the bothersome boy. "Nice to see us again, Ken." He turned his attention back to the food and let the two friends exchange pleasantries.

While his eyes were busy keeping his hands within safe distance from his mouth, Dain left an ear to watch over Kei and Misa. That was when he heard the young man slip out that he'd found his own mate. The tips of Dain's ears twitched and the conversation brought a bright smile to his face. He stopped everything he was doing and immediately cut between the two of them, draping his arms over both of their shoulders as he towered above them.

"Did I just hear what I think I heard there?" He used his arms to bring in the group hug, if they craved touch then Dain was a buffet,"I guess that means that even if she don't show up, we still gotta have one hell of a time to celebrate!"

That's when the lights cut out and darkness overtook them all. He could hear all the startled and surprised voices but couldn't make out specific individuals. At no time did he let go of either Misa or Kei. A disembodied head appeared from out of thin air and issued threats and warnings. If what he said was correct, the three of them were now powerless and trapped. Sticking together and escaping was now their highest priority. Dain's highest priority.

He lowered his hand into the pocket of his pants and fished out his phone. "Looks like he's tellin' the truth about the phones at least. I've got no reception and it looks like I'm disconnected from every network." He removed his mask and laid his eyes on Misa's,"I can't tell about the powers, I don't really feel weaker but mine are a bit more passive than yours."

His hunger had began to creep back up on him. He could smell, and practically taste, all of the food that was on display for the lot of them. He was starving now, and as much as he wanted to take care of Misa he wanted to grab everything he could fit into his mouth and hands.

Shade caught Alanna as she fell into him. He listened to her but was confused by it, “Are you okay? What’s going on?” He asked with his raspy voice but there was feeling in it, and Death took notice as he could see that something had begun to stir inside of Shade.

Soon after however it seemed all hell was going to break loose as an young and very angry Valkyrie came from out of nowhere and began to threaten Ryu. Of course Ryu just offered a smile to her and a smart ass attitude, “It’s not my fault that he was wanted. It’s his own fault for making enemies.” Ryu was never one to hold back his words, he was always quite a loud mouth and normally was inconsiderate of people’s feelings. “Can’t blame me if you weren’t strong enough to protect him.”

“Enough Ryu...” Death didn’t want to deal with his hurtful talk and he most certainly didn’t want the maniac to come out of Ryu. “Miss, if you’re looking for someone to be mad at, then be mad at me. I was the leader of the operation that took Malik from you. Now, if you want to fight I will be more than happy to give you one. But I will warn you now that if I draw my sword it will thirst for blood.” Death was a skilled fighter, at least enough to defend himself in a fight, but his biggest advantage was that cursed sword on his back that could cut through nearly anything, and unlike others here, he didn’t rely on powers since he lost his power before ever walking into this manor.

Ryu soon began to smell what smelled like food, and suddenly he felt like he was starving. “Ugh!! HUNGRY!!!” He yelled as as both of his hands moved to his stomach and he began to make a scene. Death and Shade wouldn’t have felt the hunger, well they would have and they wouldn’t have. Where they had both been locked up they would have to go long periods without food, or eat food that would make them sick, so they were good at fighting that urge to Eat, and while Ryu was in the same place as him, the guards didn’t dare poison that maniac’s food.

Kirien waited.

And waited.

And waited...

There was no answer on the other end of the phone. Perhaps he had been right about Dain being attached to the table with the food. He suddenly envisioned his best friend leaning over said table, stuffing delicacies into his face with one hand while snarling and fending off everyone who came within 5 feet of the table like a vicious, overgrown ogre with the other. Being blind only made the image more vivid in Kirien's mind and the ridiculous display made him suddenly laugh a little before he caught himself.

"Looks like he's not answering." He mused to Phanphan with a snicker, "Maybe we should just go in and see if we can find him? I can hear the party so we're definitely in the right place." He had somewhat hoped this information would impress his girlfriend. 'See,' he thought, 'Being blind doesn't make me any less awesome!' He then silently cursed himself for missing out on the opportunity to hold her hand. She had been right about his thinking that it would've been cheating his training. He wouldn't miss that opportnity twice though, he'd gladly allow her to escort him into the ongoing party. As he thought of this he tried casually slipping his phone back into his sleeve pocket and missed completely, the poor electronic device clattering loudly upon the ground.

"Whoops..." Kirien leaned forward to retrieve the fallen phone only to lose his balance and tumble forward, his head crashing into the Nekojin girl's knee as he crumpled to all fours, his hat escaping in the process.

"It's okay, I got this!" He pawed at the ground, managing to fumble over and reclaim his hat. He secured it on his head again before again pawing and crawling around, searching for his phone, "Should be... Around here... Somewhere..."

Stuffing Kirien's phone into his pocket, dragging him upright, and navigating them both inside without biting her thus far unimpressive boyfriend had taken a lot of patience on Phanphan's part. A lot of patience. So by the time they had joined the fringes of the gathering and the scent of food was caught by her keen nose, Phanphan had had enough of being patient. She was starving!

"Looks like we're just in time for dinner. How about we both get something to eat, and see if we--I can spot Dain so we can all sit together?" This was less of a polite suggestion than it might have been, as Phanphan had already proceeded to drag Kirien along in the direction of the food service.

By the time she joined the line with a plate in her hands (and had forced one into Kirien's), Phanphan had completely forgotten about Dain. She marched Kirien along the tables of food, making sure that was served a bit of everything as well (whether he wanted to or not). In no time at all, they were seated at the table together (she just barely made sure Kirien was sitting on the chair and not the floor), and Phanphan was tucking in. Other guests were standing around with plates of nibbles in hand when they walked in, so she didn't care or really notice if anyone else was seated and eating yet. Nor did she notice much of what Kirien was up to, being unable to see the silverware or food in front of him. Phanphan didn't even notice that Kirien's hat was now decidedly crooked.

With his phone retrieved, Kirien allowed Phanphan to half lead, half drag him down to where the party was being held. He couldn't enjoy holding her hand as he had hoped, as all of his focus was on not tripping and falling over something. It wasn't that he didn't trust the nekojin girl to guide him unerringly, becasue he did, but simply trying to keep up without seeing where he was going was rather jarring while being pulled along. They came to a stop and he felt a plate pushed into his hands. He wasn't very hungry but he wouldn't protest if eveyone else was already eating.

Someting in the back of his mind felt slightly off. He couldn't tell what, however.

He heard the sounds of people enjoying what he believed to be an ample feast. He held out his plate when Phanphan instructed him to and waited to feel the familiar sensation of the weight of food settling onto it...

Only it never came.

Soon enough his girlfriend was nudging him along and then again he was asked to hold out his plate. Once more he did as he was asked and once more he didn't feel any weight added to it at all before he was nudged onwards.

Odd, and there was still that sensation that he was missing something important.

This ritual repeated several times before he was whisked hastily into a seat (which he almost missed sitting on properly), then he heard Phanphan enjoying what he presumed to be food which he somehow hadn't also received. Maybe she was going to feed him? He fidgeted as he waited because there was still that nagging sensation that there was something really important that wasn't registering. And as he listened to some of the party guests talk about the food and drinks it finally dawned on him...

He couldn't smell any of it.

There was no scent of food anywhere in the area. He hadn't smelled any at all since he had arrived, and yet it sounded like people were eating heartily. Not only that, the plate he held which was supposedly loaded with food felt like.... He groped along the edge and found a fork, then used it to search and make certain of what he had suspected all along...

The plate was empty.

"That's...Weird." He muttered, not understanding at all just what exactly was going on. His training, as well as this party, had taken a rather odd turn indeed.

(Well, it seemed like not only were this lot uncoordinated, but they mostly did not know why places in this mansion were off-limits. Stormalong watched them fuss about while trying to think of a way to deal with this. They were in, as one might say, a fix. He was still working on it when the butler - THE BUTLER THAT DID IT!! ...maybe - came over and made an announcement to all.)

"Ladies and gentlemen. Dinner will now be served."

(We don't know if the power of suggestion was being used directly, or if each aspect of this lure was being manually operated - Food cooked, fans wafting aromas in their directions, the sounds of stomachs growling broadcasted via hidden speakers - but nevertheless, the effect was that everybody was hungry, and very much so. WAIT! He had an idea...)

Stormalong: Yo! Jabberwock! Need to borrow you!

(He pulled the horned beast that was Ritz Munroe and whispered something into his ear. Pinnyfert wouldn't be able to hear, and that was the point...assuming he was even still around. Point is, everyone was soon heading for the dining room, but...the Stormalong had a plan, a CRAZY plan. Instead of sitting down, he made a spectacle of himself suddenly as he entered the dining room.)

Stormalong: SATANBURGER!! It is I, Baron Von Madness!! You cannot fool me! I KNOW you're listening in and I demand and audience! An audience, I say, this very instance, you two-bit hack of a villain!!! NOW!!!

(While he was shouting and carrying on, Ritz was slinking very quietly, very low to the ground, in order to get over to the door there leading into the servants area and sneak in. Stormalong had instructed him to do so while he was drawing in all the attention.)
